I dont think there demeanor at the weigh ins mean much. I can tell who will win the fight by seeing them make their entrance. When a top fighter has that eye of the tiger while walking to the cage….He usually demolishes his opponent.
THales is a lot tougher then many of you give him credit for. Amazing Jits, Great chin, and always improving striking, and a ton of HEART…. I think he will put up the best fight against Silva since he joined the UFC. He is going to perform better then Hendo, Nate or Rich ever did against the Spider. Do i think Anderson will lose his belt? doubt it, but it wouldnt surprise me at all if thales subbed Anderson.
Problem is that this will be a very motivated Spider. He will be motivated after he took all that heat for his performance against Cote, and he will be motivated because if he ca defend hits title against Leites, he will have set the record for most consecutive title defenses. He would already have that fight if Fatboy Lutter had made weight.

Correction: He would alreday have that record if fatboy Lutter had made weight.
Lutter mounted Anderson, and did nOTHING! If THales mounts Anderson, ITS OVER!!!! Problem is that Anderson is fully aware of tHales’s skills and has been training with Jacre and Galvao.

War of words between Anderson n Wanderlei is HEATING UP:
http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/wa … ared-17073
Saturday, 5:00 a.m. ET: Anderson Silva discussed former teammate Wanderlei Silva’s move to 185 pounds last week, calling it "pretentious." Wanderlei hasn’t taken too kindly to Anderson’s remarks.
"I thought it was excellent being quoted by the champion without having had a fight in (Anderson’s) division," Wanderlei told Sherdog.com. "It’s a sign that I’m already bothering him. Nobody kicks a tree that is not able to give fruits."
Wanderlei also criticized Anderson for discussing Chute Boxe training sessions.
"Anyone who is a man knows that training shouldn’t be talked about. That’s a basic rule for any fighter: training is training. I’ll not say that I already knocked him out in training. … What happens in training has to stay inside the gym. Training is training and a real fight is a real fight.
"He is too cocky. I hope he can read this. … I never talked anything bad about him; I always respected him. He has always been my friend, always respected me, but now he came with that statement. I can’t understand that. I didn’t come down to 185 to face him. Actually I didn’t have that intention. … Changing divisions and fighting the champion would be too pretentious. I should have to have many fights before facing him, but concerning his last statements, I think the way is open and the war is declared.
"If he beats Thales, we will meet and we will see if he will be able to do everything he says. … He knows me; I know him. We trained a lot together. He knows my failures, but I also know his failures, and I know nobody has given him a hard time. Nobody has beaten his face badly. I believe the future is pretty promising. Let’s wait and see."
While Wanderlei declared war on one former teammate, he opened the doors of his gym to another in Rafael Cordeiro, who recently left Chute Boxe.
"Besides being a great friend, Rafael is one of the best MMA trainers in the world," Wanderlei said. "I can say that because I was trained by him for more than 10 years. The doors of my academy are open to him. It would be a pleasure to be trained by him again."

But when silva ends up winning they’re all going to be like “ohh i knew silva would win”. Kind of odd how a fighter can come in 3 pounds under and have no questions asked but can’t come in 2 pounds over? Underweight could be just advantegous as overweight…what do u guys think?
by Robert(1) on Apr 18, 2009 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well the thinking is that the larger you are, the greater advantage you hold. Plus, the weight class is called the 185 lb. class but the class actually ranges from 171 to 185. Silva could have come in at 171 and he could still fight. So, he’s really not under.
by RedDog on Apr 18, 2009 9:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the weight class is 171-185 . . . a fighter could weigh in anywhere in the spread and be a legit middle weight contender (one pound over for non-title fight)

Silva coming in at 182, just means he is prepping himself to get to a lower weight for the GSP superfight afterwards!
by RockhardMMA on Apr 17, 2009 10:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
there superfight would happen at 185 so it could be a history making fight or potentially be one… but it won’t ever happen after gsp vs alves gsp will probably be matched up with someone that doesn’t even deserve a shot, and silva will fight at 205
by randy murders on Apr 17, 2009 11:27 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think they will setup the GSP\Silva fight after this one, especially if Silva is adamant at retiring soon, they wanna cash that fight in ASAP. But I think if Fitch wins again he gets a rematch for the belt either way.

no way in hell will Fitch get a title shot, he will never win the title.. he’s not dangerous anywhere, Fitch is all about position and he has no chance to control the fight by holding position against GSP! therefor GSP wins that fight 100 times out of 100!
by RoB on Apr 18, 2009 1:16 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
and his striking is too slow and sloppy to hold up against say Thiago Alves..

by RockhardMMA on Apr 18, 2009 7:03 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Fitch hasnt beaten the Alves of Today! There is a HUGE difference between the Alves that Fitch already beat and the Alves thats been terrorizing the UFC since November of 2007 when he had one of the most entertaining fights I have ever seen against Lytle. The lytle fight wasd the beginning of Alve’s coming out party. Since that fight he has looked better and better has his competition quality has been increased. Alves DESTROYED: Lytle, Karo, Hughes and Koschek…
I like Jon Fitch….he is as tough as they come. But I honestly believe that TOday, Alves would Murder him!

by ALBERT on Apr 17, 2009 10:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I’m going to be the black sheep and say Leites is going to take this.
Reason being is I am just going for the upset. Pure and simple.
Since Silva had some criticism about his last performance. I think he will feel the pressure of having to put on a stunning performance for the fans. He will probably try to force a KO victory instead of fighting methodically and breaking down his opponent which will inhibit his natural fighting style making him uncomfortable. If he said was true, about how he could not find his rhythm in the Cote fight then I think this will add pressure to Silva’s fight.
When I see Anderson Silva fight he’s usually real calm and I believe that the Spider is more dangerous when he is relaxed and bouncing around the cage. Like when he fought Franklin the 2nd time. He looked like he was toying around bobbing and weaving before he smashed Franklin again.
With this fight I see Silva going for the kill and either being too careful or too reckless where he falls into Leites game. Leites knows he is the underdog so I think that gives him less pressure.
Watching Leites on countdown living in a small beat up apartment made me feel for him. This guy has been in the UFC since 2006 and has only lost once in his career yet he still lives with his mama. DANG! I think he deserves this title!
UPSET!! LEITES by decision, or rear naked choke.
by Skelow on Apr 17, 2009 11:02 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Prey hard buddy! cus if Leites is taking Silva to the ground he’s gonna get 4 fists, 2 elbows, 1 knee & probly a kick to the face. If he can survive that with out back peddling then, hey…he will have the upperhand.
by EIGH8T on Apr 18, 2009 4:06 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
he doesnt look skinny to me, just ripped up which indicates to me he has worked harder than ever in training camp, i think that comming in 3lbs under the weight isnt going to make any difference, its hardly like a weight class below Leites, just 3 lbs…

I don’t think this comment was from the real chefdaddy, he is my age and understands why guys have lunch, whether it be after 18 holes, a business meeting or just to shoot the shit! I don’t get where the question (whoever wrote it) came from, I haven’t said it or asked anyone if they wanted to have lunch in a while. John has asked me a couple times to have lunch if I’m in Philly, I was gonna meet up with crowls when I was in MA, and I actually email and text a dozen guys from mmamania off the site on a regular basis. I also know John and philqny get together every so often. If this was chef, how’s the new job and your daughters doing? I’ve been asking anyone if you’ve been on lately. Whoever wrote this, explain the comment please, I don’t follow!

Hmmm…Now that you’ve mentioned it, I remembered posting comments here before with a URL so peepz could click on my name. Now it’s just tedious to come up with my URL because I don’t memorizes it
Well anyway, when I did that before, this “cheffdaddy” suddenly says “man, you’re ugly Syd!”. I just don’t get it ‘coz if that’s what I am, then why do I get to bang quality chicks here, given that I ain’t rich and they really have sex with me, no money or power attached. Hell a mag model also once got banged by me, so whoever the F this impostor is, you’ve been found out!
My suggestion to the real chef and john, use URLs if you’re posting, just like what Kevin does, so that we would know that it is indeed you. no 2 URLs are the same, so we easily could identify impostors. The problem is that it takes a little longer for moderation to post up your comments if it is in this format. Right Kev?

GSP vs Silva is the exact same fight as GSP vs Penn except GSP is going to be the one getting demolished. I hope it never happens, especially if AS is going to retire. He needs to fight people who can give him a run. The only fighters I think can do it are at 205.
by Z on Apr 18, 2009 12:27 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You have no clue what you are talking about. Skill or planning has nothing to do with it either based on your well thought out response. You are too young to remember the 40+ lb differences there were in the infant UFC days. This would be a good match but would probably end in rd 4 by Silva KO. It would be a good fight though…..something reminiscent of the GSP – Fitch fight…
by deadgrassinyeard on Apr 18, 2009 8:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yea it’s all about weight when it comes to great P4Ps like this. Silva would simply be too big, just like GSP was for Penn.

I dont know, GSP is a training freak in all disciplines. He always trained with middleweight and light heavyweight with his wrestling above all. Master in Gameplaning.
You CANT compare GSP to BJ in position to move up in class because they are completly different.
A whole different story!
Nobody knows what could happen in that fight because it’s simply the best wrestler & complete fighter against the best striker with the weight advantage.
Dream fight.

The idea of Silva getting subbed is insane. He has better jits then 90% of the UFC, including Leites. That on top of far superior striking, leaves Leites with the Hail Mary KO at best. I see Leites getting mauled in the clinch just like most of his other victims. SILVA WINS! FATALITY!
by Da Monkey on Apr 18, 2009 7:18 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think Silva has a cold or the flu. We all saw him rubbing his nose at the weigh-ins. It’s also common for people to get sick when travelling in airplanes. So I looked up how much water weight 3lb would be. It’s a little over 1/3 gallon. So if he has been shi**ing water and throwing up, that could easily be the weight difference.
If he’s sick, I’m 70% sure he’ll win. If he’s healthy, I’m 90% sure he’ll win.
