Well anyone can put a video together making someone looke great in the gym. I def looks like he could be on track, but I wont be impressed until he shows up on fight night in shape, and ready to fight.

ya i have to agree with you, just look at BJ penn, in his training he looked to be unstoppable, but ya we all saw what happend their.. i have confidence in shogun, he is very talented, i just don’t know how well his chin is against a hit from the ice man

Actually, i remember Penn looking pretty bad in his training videos.
by Lester the Pimp on Apr 15, 2009 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
hahaha agreed, pretty bad may be an understatement, i’m pretty sure there was a huge uproar about him undertraining in that fight with the countdown and what not lol

i dont think he will gas … he hasnt had a lot of time to improve his cardio but it will definitely be better than it was last fight
plus chuck liddell is not really known for pushing the pace in his fights… he waits for his opponents to make the first move

hmm not really, Penn looked good boxing, and wrestling, im not saying it was perfect but as the way it showed it looked like he was in shape, that being said Shogun will LOSE, im a big fan of his always will be, but his agressive W.Silva style was only good in Japan. In the USA you need to pick your shots way more carefully or its lights out for anyone. and chuck will go back to his old style of letting shogun come to him, only way i see shogun winning is if he submits Chuck(hence why he is training so hard with Mia)

I think he’ll gas as well. The Brazilians don’t condition the same way Americans do with the exception of BJ Penn who conditions like Brazilians.

for those that care (not you matt) red sox/A’s pics from today are up! what in the mma world did I miss today?

ricky — What made BJ appear lackluster in training (to me anyway) was when he mouthed off about how much better his training methods were. “I’m not pushing things, pulling things [like GSP]…” No, he’s training like a “real” fighter. Right. And then his clock gets completely cleaned. BJ would do well to just keep a low profile and train really hard. Like Dana White said, BJ has more than a few yes men around him, and are they going to call him on the carpet when BJ has his mind set on taking a vacation? He has a strong personality, and I didn’t see anyone in his camp that seemed to have a stronger personality. What he said went.

Penn can never be in his best shape with that extra lbs. At 155 he can’t help but be in top shape.

8 weeks to get his cardio up to par? Now I am positive he will gas again.
by BNF on Apr 15, 2009 4:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah the first 2 weeks wont improve cardio at all, it takes time to get into great fitness, he will prob have better cardio but not good enough yet,
by markg on Apr 15, 2009 4:50 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
He should have started cardio work the day after the Coleman fight and he still wouldn’t even be all the way there.
by BNF on Apr 15, 2009 4:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
not like chuck really pushes the pace…this fight doesnt leave the first round..with Shoguns hand in the air
by newfie on Apr 15, 2009 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Correctomundo! It takes years to develop the type of cardio needed to fight at full strength for 3 rounds. It’s a lifestyle. Ask the caveman named Sean Sherk.

He’ll gas again…
Before the Coleman fight he had fresh clips of him training and I’m not a Shogun fan and never will be but he looked very good.
The new clips on him training this time around doesn’t look better in any way.
Chuck by KO of the night.

I agree, i am not so easily fooled as some of the above posters. Its a bit deja vu with the ’I’m back to my best’.
That image of Rua trying to lock in an Omaplata but being completely gassed is sticking in my head.
I think he will gas again and will end up a crumpled ball on the floor against the cage, losing a 2nd round TKO.

anyone else having LaG problems? this video needs more bandwith!

Shogun will be in shape, and he will have the last laugh to all the doubters that he has right now due to his performance against coleman.
After Saturday, all the old Shogun nuthuggers will be back, OH they will be back!!!

Never been a shogun fan. I admit he has alot of skill, but If he does win this ill give him some props but Ill never be on his bandwagon. I just dont like the guy something about him just bothers me.

I hope shogun is ready. the ice man might knock him out.
I wanna see shoguns ground game again.

Shogun with no soccer kick/stomps is Crocop without his high kick.
by TKO on Apr 15, 2009 5:03 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Exact, in Pride some was doing it but not many did it with great effect.
by JonnyBoy on Apr 15, 2009 5:41 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
plus for it to land you probally already did something good to have your oponent in that position.
by roy on Apr 15, 2009 5:46 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
True.
There’s so many better things to do at a downed fighter, I admit that the soccer kick looks cool but if you really want to hurt the guy do something else.

No way in hell he beats chuck/// he looks like he will def gas again.

i want the iceman to win but deep down i dont care if shogun does. im routing for the iceman to win becasue hes an mma icon and doesnt have much time left, the reason why im not routing for shogun is hes had two bad performances and i just generally think he will lose. aslong as this fight is exciting im happy
by Jared on Apr 15, 2009 5:30 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Nice video… I’m excited for this fight no matter who wins.

He looks great, little bit less body fat to … this should be an interesting fight. If he comes out with the right cardio, it will be Chuck’s last fight. SHOGUN, TKO.
by DownUnder on Apr 15, 2009 6:09 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There was nothing in that video that impressed me about his cardio. It just looked like regular training. No extreme stuff like wanderlei’s snorkel or Forrest’s rubber bands. Kicks and knees looked good, though.
by DoctorSamson on Apr 15, 2009 6:11 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Both men need this win BAD!
A loss would more than likely send chuck into retirement and for Shogun, he’d be saying hello to Affliction/StrikeForce.

Wow theres a lot of fighting experts around here i bet not one of you knows what it is like to train, so please leave your fighting opinions somewhere else and for the record everyones body is different so dont come here saying stuff like “oh now i know he is gonna gas” learn about the different metabolisms and body types before you speak tapout fans!!

man… shogun has some brutal muay thai.
those kicks specifically!
by andy on Apr 15, 2009 6:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yes, for his last fight he looked just as good… what he pulls off in the gym looks great but if you can’t pull it off in the cage you’re done.
by JonnyBoy on Apr 16, 2009 5:17 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Damn it Shogun, you are still huffin and puffin in the video. Hands speed definitly improved, kicks and knees have always been sick. Body is still a little flabby. Where’s the nutrionist? He really needs one. I would say that this time he has enough gas in the tank for a sick first round that is of course if the iceman is up to the task. Chuck is all talk in his video “im going for the KO” my ass. I bet when the bell rings he wont come out banging he never really did, he waits for opponents to chase him and then punish. Shogun gameplan better be stick and move jab up front at all times and some real nice kicks, and as always avoid the right hand. WAR SHOGUN!

Personally, I couldnt give a shit about the Anderson Silva fight. This is the real main event for UFC 97…a fight between these two two years ago would have been like no.1 LHW in the world vs. no.2 LHW. Both guys have lost fights since then and their seemingly indestructable image has been tarished. However, if Shogun is even 80% of what he was in Pride cardio-wise he will TKO/KO or submit Chuck – I’ve bet $100 on it I’m that confident. Also, I’m expecting a surge of ex-Shogun nutthuggers to suddenly rejoin the bandwagon claiming they always had faith in him…some so-called MMA ‘fans’ should stick to WWE.
by jayshogun on Apr 15, 2009 7:39 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
LOL stick to the WWE? LOL that shit sucks worse than Shoguns cardio.
by lokie on Apr 15, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
jayshogun are you for real?
I’ve been a fan of the Pride FC days and everyone can’t like every fighter and I sure wont jump any rediculous so called Shogun warwagon.
I didn’t like Shogun before, what is there to like now?
Shogun is going to gas, you’ll cry AND lose your hard earned money THEN after that YOU can stick to the WWE.
I wish this site uses login in the near future and that one can also mute or block the noobs, desk-wizards and the self acclaimed MMA-experts.

I am, by no means a Shogun fan,but I have a feeling that we will see the Shogun of old. With that said I also believe that Chuck will be back to his old self, at least for this fight.I am predicting this to be one of the best fights of the year.I think Chuck will eventually catch him in the last couple of minutes of the 3rd round.
by scott on Apr 15, 2009 8:31 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
shogun will be fine yes u can come in 2 days notice and beat mark coleman….yea he looked horrible but im sure he wont ever come into a fight like that ever again..hes smart enough to know whats on the line for him…i saw he knocks chuck down and gnp…or he catches chuck tryin to get up with a knee…all u chuck lovers with ur mohawks need to relaize hes done yea he has one punch knockout power but hes to slow he keeps his head in the same spot….shogun has good head movement…it will be a good fight but i see herb dean comin to save iceman…

This video scares me being a huge Shogun fan. He doesn’t look that much different as far as his cardio. You can tell he’s still gassing and still slow. He throws two kicks and stops and takes a deep breath which reminds me of his last two fights. I don’t see Shogun improving his cardio all that much. He’ll gas again no doubt. I think it’s jusr a natural thing for him to get tired easily. Chuck will come with a gameplan to tire him and then go in for the kill.
by remedy on Apr 15, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I am really worried now for Shogun. He did not look good in this video. Those were some very basic things he was doing and I didn’t like his facial expression. He looked like he was having trouble doing them. He sparring also looked kind of crappy.
I am still rooting for him though. I hope this video was made a while ago. I hope he is much better now.
by aman on Apr 16, 2009 12:02 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Saw Shogun in Ireland in January, what a let down. The guy was dead on his feet after the first round and only won because his elderly opponent was in even worse condition. I just can’t see anyway that his cardio will improve that significantly in three months to pose any kind of threat to Liddell. His only hope is to swing for the fences in the first round and hope he lands one.
by attakdog on Apr 16, 2009 4:33 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I think that Shogun might take this one home. If Chuck is looking for a quick knockout I think he might get caught while trying. Training bjj with Damien Maia!!
