Damn Nick. Theres kids around. Love this guy in the cage, but he is not a good role model outside of it……of course I am not sure he is supposed to be. Oh yea. who says “ese”?

Just ‘cause you fight for a living doesn’t make you a professional fighter.
Diaz has no class. He’s a standout fighter, but get a clue about how to be a pro.
by Freddy on Apr 14, 2009 2:10 PM EDT up reply actions
lol@ freddy. so helping an opponent up and raising his hand after the fight, then saying he was one of the guys you looked up to growing up isn’t professional? Go watch a few Diaz fights in Japan. He loves the sport and treats it with respect, Half the people who hate him, watch because of how he hypes a fight! Kinda reminds me of Tito after the last Ken fight! It was hyped as they hate each other, but then after the fight, “they made up!” It’s called drawing up attention and hype so more people watch a fight! If two guys were best friends and were slobbering all over each others nuts before a fight, who would want to see the fight?

Hey kevin, what you do after you act like a douche doesn’t excuse the douchieness. If someone suckerpunched me in a bar, I wouldn’t really give a crap about an apology after. Diaz’ trash talk and antics make him look like just that… trash.
Defending reprehensible actions because the perpetrator displays an ounce of grace after the fact is irrational. It wouldn’t hold any weight in a court of law, and it shouldn’t here either. If Diaz had lost that fight he would have kept up the trash talk and posturing afterwards. It’s easy to be graceful when the fight’s over and you’ve won.
Look at the truly great fighters out there: Couture, Liddell, Wanderlei, Anderson, GSP and Fedor to name a few. They would never sully themselves and the sport with this kind of childish street bullshit, and they’re all much better fighters than Diaz.
To me, that behviour is just a display of insecurity and emotional and mental weakness. It’s the same thing I think when I see Penn or Junie before a fight. A real warrior doesn’t need to work himself up like that to fight. I don’t care if it’s for hype, you don’t disgrace yourself and cheapen your sport to sell a few extra tickets to borderline fans who will never really like MMA anyway. I really think one day they’ll look back at their antics with a sense of shame.
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 14, 2009 4:04 PM EDT up reply actions
What exactly is reprehensible about what he did? It is clear that Shamrock is provoking him. He gave him the middle finger and got in his face??? Whoa, call the morality police! Shamrock is the one that called him a faggott. Give me a break. Can you honestly tell me that if some dude you were about to fight challenged you like that you wouldn’t stand up to him? Sure, Diaz has control issues but the kid loves the sport and he is extremely talented. I like his attitude and think his honesty is refreshing.

Kevin, I’m not talking about after the fight. I’m talking about representing a sport that is still trying to earn the respect of the “Sporting World”. Be a pro. There’s a lot of times that I’d like to smack a customer or occasionally a co-worker, but I’m a pro, so I don’t. Fight in the cage, have respect out of the cage.
by Freddy on Apr 14, 2009 4:26 PM EDT up reply actions
Jeremy, the guys you mentioned didn’t grow up in stockton (not an excuse) and are all class acts, hands down! I guess I see no problem with hyping a fight and being an angry prick! Everyone has a different personality! If all fighters were like GSP, it would be a very boring sport leading up to a fight! You need your Diaz’s, serra’s and guys that talk trash! My son wouldn’t use any of these guys as role models because he has parents, anyone who considers athletes true role models, lives a pathetic life!
I do get your point though!
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Not backing up his style, but everyone has a different way of psyching themselves up for a fight. This isn’t a baseball game or tennis game, this is a fight! I can only imagine how jacked you need to get knowing you could or could not get the sh$t knocked out of you. By the way, those kids will see alot worse than that at an MMA fight, so if their old enough to handle that (ala watching their Dad ringside get beat down (Scott Smith)) I think they can handle a few f words and middle fingers.

Frank Shamrock is no model of maturity either…have you seen or heard half the stuff he does to hype fights, before during, and after. He definately fostered some of this behavior through the years.
by slim473 on Apr 14, 2009 4:36 PM EDT up reply actions
Kevin is right, how can you even argue with him on this one.. Jeremy you’re completely wrong! It’s a show and a business they’re put in a situation where they have to do their job to keep their business flowing..
what Diaz, Tito and those guys are doing is so intelligent that you don’t even know it, apparently you have no sense about what ppl wants to see… If everybody has an opinion about you then you know you’re doing it right!
you need to do something to stand out in the crowd..
nobody really cares about a neardy MMA fighter no matter how good they are, you can say that he’s a good fighter, but to be a true fan you have to care about the person!
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Frank is great at hyping fights too, and that’s why Tito was disappointed to see him lose.. they would draw a ton of interest and the hype would be insane for that rematch with two of the legends in the biz!
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions
No RoB, you’re wrong.
What Diaz does is an embarrassment to the sport. MMA is exciting enough to be enjoyed without schoolyard antics before the fight.
Everybody has an opinion about a lot of scumbags. So what? Stikeforce’s ratings for that bout were probably crap, much like the vast majority of your Tito-sack-hugging posts.
LOL, nobody cares about a fighter unless they’re an asshole? Speak for yourself.
It sells the fight short term, but in the long term it makes people take the sport less seriously. Other sports don’t resort to this kind of crap to get ratings, and they would severely discipline an athlete who behaved this way.
Don’t fucking question whether I’m a true fan because I find this crap distateful. A true fan doesn’t need this kind of garbage to get pumped for a fight.
You’re probably a WWE fan.

the mofo’s who thinks that they’re gonna find role models in the MMA biz are crazy!..
the UFC and every biz for that matter are hype machines and hype/media is a huge part of the game if you want to make money that is.. you have to take the spotlight and make ppl remember you!…
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m not looking for role models, I’m looking for people who aren’t retarded… which is why I probably shouldn’t be talking to you.
People don’t want to see that crap… idiots do. Some idiots want to see public executions too… doesn’t mean you give it to them. It’s called having a little class… try it sometime.

you are a retard my friend… and everyone of your posts are retarded too! It’s a fight game ffs, so fighting is about hugging and kissing? where did i go wrong.. they’re drawing attention to the sport! that can never be bad in the long-term..
other sports aren’t about fighting, so wft are you talking about? Tito isn’t an a-hole i know that for a fact! if being a smart business man and making money is being an a$$ than ok..
And you know what WWE is all about entertainment just like MMA, only difference being that everything’s fake..
Other sports also don’t need the trash talk and those things because media is covering everything, and they’re sports that everyone can play and goes down to being organized sports for kids..
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions
try thinking Jeremy.. do you go to church with your mother selecting your clothes everyday?.. I mean are u 60? this is 2009, and like it or not that’s the name of the game in the fighting business.. It’s still fighting whether you like it or not.. you can’t justify fighting by hugging your opponent and shaking hands during the fight!
tell me one fighter that’s classier and business smarter than Tito Ortiz and Rampage? when have you ever heard Tito go personal? it’s a fake and a business, get over it u homo!

yeah, calling Joe Frasier an uncle tom and getting the whole black community to turn on him was very classy! Every sport does it, right down to coaches recruiting the same guys rivals are recruiting
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions
LOL, you guys are hilarious… It’s funny that anybody would defend this behavior. The best way to get the spotlight on you is to kick ass… Which I admit Diaz did once he got in the cage. I listed many fighters above who never resort to this crap to sell fights, yet they are all WAY more popular and well-known than Diaz.
Kev, Ali was at least funny and clever with his jibes… he infuriated his opponents without calling them bitches and threatening to kill them in front of a room of little kids.
And RoB, I’m 32 years old and definitely not a homo, according to my girlfriend. Once again, if you’re into fake stuff so much, get out your Undertaker doll and ask your mom if your friends can come over.
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 14, 2009 11:49 PM EDT up reply actions
Anybody who argues Jeremy’s point needs a mental evaluation.
I would imagine most MMA fans ultimately want this sport to reach the levels of the current mainstream sports. If you don’t I suggest you look up the definition of the word “fan”.
That being said, for the life of me, I can not possibly fathom any justification for how either one of the DIaz brothers conduct themselves. Unprofessional to say the least.
“Oh, but its good for hyping fights”
I’m sorry, but the highest paid fighters today do not conduct themselves anywhere close to this manner. What does that say?
But for the sake of argument, lets say you do decide to hype the fight with a little trash talk. I don’t see harm in that. But to limit these(by these I mean the Diaz brothers overall “look at me, I’m thug, I’m from stockton”) actions as mere “trash talk” is naive. It’s childish BS that won’t be found in most mainstream sports and certainly not by a true champion of any type.
Can someone possibly start to explain to me how this type of shit is anything but bad for the sport and its growth?

you guys are right, Lebron dancing and taunting a team while on the bench and up 30 is classy! TO optimizes class, he’s only called his own QB gay. need I go on? Point is, EVERY sport HAS their characters. The best rebounder of all time was a douche bag (Rodman). Watch the Thrilla in Manilla documentary on HBO, Ali was anything but classy! Because he was funny while turning a whole race of people against someone who loaned him money while exiled is classy? I do understand what you guys are saying, I just don’t agree! Like I said, every sport has these guys, I could list them, but I’d take up too much space! I’m old school, I like guys like Bird, Jordan and Mchale. So it is uncharacteristic for me to like guys like Diaz, but even I have no problem with him, fact is I know how much he loves and respects the sport. It’s all how he hypes himself up for a fight!
by kevin on Apr 15, 2009 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions
I’ll break the truth down for ya! no mainstream sport is about fighting, and MMA won’t ever be in that kind of mainstream other sports are, because it’s fighting… they air the fights late at night for a reason, and that is because it’s fighting…
anyone that’s ever been in any sport also knows that the hype goes around before a big game, and ur in the “zone” but when the game’s over you walk up and shake hands with your opponent which Diaz did, and the game’s over and everybody goes back to living their life!
by RoB on Apr 15, 2009 12:17 AM EDT up reply actions

and what’s fun is that you go back to the who’s the better fighter, that doesn’t matter! David Beckham is the best paid football player in the world stil at 33-34 and you think he’s the best?
do you know who Badr Hari is? that is a marketable fighter, he draws so much interest to K-1 that it’s crazy! at first they called him the “bad boy” but now they’ve gone over to “the golden boy” cause he sells!

Kevin, I didn’t say every athlete in other sports is classy. I’m saying none of them would ever get away with doing anything remotely as vile as the way Diaz and a few other fighters sometimes behave.
I realize it’s a combat sport and that this stuff will happen… Diaz is just one of the guys who takes it too far, and quite frankly I think he’s mentally ill!

U guys are nuts… Hey I like Diaz, it’s like watching a guest on the Jerry Springer show. Diaz probably has an IQ of about 75. Also, Diaz doesn’t just do this stuff as strategy to hype a fight. That’s just his personality coming out, a side benefit is it does ‘hype’ the fight!

this is exactly right 99% of the time. Almost everyone I know with tatoos and an attitude like Diaz is actually “hurting on the inside” from something like lack of love from parents or whatever the case may be and they act this way to make themselves feel like a badass but when they get dominated or get their a$$ beat, they run and cry. I got my a$$ beat one time and just dealt with it like a man. You can’t be badder than everyone all the time.

When Diaz was younger I really liked him. Especially when he took out Robbie Lawler! I saw some interviews he did back in the day on the bonus features of some old UFC DVD’s. He doesn’t appear to be nearly as cocky and certainly not as hostile. However, he did have that potty mouth he still has today. I guess thats the price of fame. I still love to watch him mix it up. I am partial to the fighters like Couture, Fedor and Hamill who usually can keep their mouths shut or in Hamill’s case, at least show respect for their opponets.

I agree jet, some guys need to hate someone to fight them, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, it makes them human. Who wants to like someone and beat them up?

What’s a “suits” expectation kevin? Sorry, not 100% familiar w/ American idioms, hehe!

Stockton is the suburb. Don’t let these nerds like Diaz say any different. Just a bunch of middle class mexicans and white trash.
When Nick is done running his triathalons like the G that he is, he should take a trip down south to see what bangin is really about. Him and his goofball brother would get their shit pushed in.

lol, yeah, forbes magazine is lying that it’s the poorest most miseable city in america with the highest foreclosure rate! You been there? It’s a shit hole, plain and simple! It’s one big ghetto!

I love the guy and he’s one of my favorite fighters, but man sometimes the hardass thing gets kind of old.

when you are the underdog, trash talk your opponent, then beat him down its easy to pick him up and show him respect afterwards. Props to diaz for being a bad mother! backing up all his talk.

Oh no, Frank said “faggot”, there is going to be some outrage about this….not really, but hey lets just yell at Nick.

After the weigh ins, Nick yelled out “check out that faggot ass tattoo on the small of his (Frank) back”.

Hate him in the worst way! He has some serious mental problems. Hes not being REAL, as he says, he just has some serious problems.
by Nick Russell on Apr 14, 2009 3:56 PM EDT reply actions
i would like him to punch me in the face so i could realize how he pressures people with those little rabbit punches. if the camera adds 10 pounds it also makes nick diaz look like he’s in a girl scout slap fight.
by kmoney on Apr 14, 2009 4:25 PM EDT reply actions
My wife’s cousin is a boxer out of stockton, I asked him about those punches (the same one that KO’d Lawler), he said he doesn’t know how, but those punches are very powerful! He says Nick has very heavy hands! Those “slaps” minced up Frank’s face pretty good! They are also very quick as well as short!
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 4:27 PM EDT up reply actions
go to stockton for 1 day…then you’d get it…homey. lol
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions
Realax with the excuses of Stockton blah blah blah
there are other fighters/people from JUST as shi**y areas (watts, compton, youngston etc.) that don’t constantly act like a douscher.

Let’s see… just about every pro boxer is from some shithole in Mexico or the US… half the NBA…half the NFL…

Stockton, stockton, stockton, oh I’m a badass and have to represent so I feel better about myself cuz I’m cool, I’m from the ghetto — word!
SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT STOCKTON!

To clarify though, and to give credit to Diaz, he speaks less of it than everyone else, of whom my post was directed.

Sorry, I just vomited out my opinion cuz I was watching Oprah. Gee, Tom Cruise is a swell guy.
Anyway . . .
I just meant that people carry on with the Stockton shit more than Diaz does, so I didn’t want to appear to hate on him so much. Because whether I want Diaz to win or lose, he’s still a good fighter. He always has entertaining fights and you can never rule him out. He’s interesting.
But the Stockton shit puts me off cuz I hate wanna-be badasses and too much focus on it attracts those flies like a pile of steaming dog shit.

People need to settle down on the Diaz hate. That’s just how the guy pumps himself up for a fight.

This thread is filled with whiny babies.
Diaz is a great fighter.
by DirtyML on Apr 14, 2009 6:36 PM EDT reply actions
That has nothing to do with it EKC. Bruce Lee proved that back in the 70s. Eddie Bravo has proven that time and time again. Those two martial artists have class. Nick on the other hand is a street punk with absolutely no class. He is the worst looser in the sport. Look at how he acted after KJ beat him down. He cried and left the arena flipping everyone off.
He is the worst representation of a pro fighter I know of, and all he is doing by admitting to smoking weed, is making weed look bad too.
If you want weed to be represented by some street punk sore looser that has no class than thats fine. I would much rather stick with a true advocate that has class and respect like Eddie Bravo.
Nick is punk. Always will be. H definitely doesnt act like a blackbelt.

I’m not a fan of Frank Shamrock, but I do not like either one of the Diaz brothers…no class.

Damn that shit was funny, if u listen after Nick flips Frank out that fool frank calls him a lil faggot. that shit had me crackin up, then frank even says he’s gonna knock his stupid ass out. lol.

After seeing the salaries for Strikeforce I can see why Nick is so pissed off. Diaz makes 40K, Shamrock 370K.
by Ixian on Apr 14, 2009 9:41 PM EDT reply actions
Wow, Diaz is quite a pathetic person. I don’t think I could ever root for the guy. I’m just not into the juvenile, 10 year old punk thing. It’s too bad Shamrock didn’t break his face. But i’m not too worried, someone will very soon. The name Diaz will soon be forgotten.

Diaz cracks me up for some reason… he’s probably the most angry fighter I can think of.

kevin u say diaz is a pro… what the hell happened when he got his a$$ handed to him by kj noons….. a pro knows how 2 win .. also should know how 2 lose… frank showed more class in the loss cuz he admitted diaz was better that night….. if diaz lost he would of been a diffrent story …. n lawler would murder nick in todays mma….. 5 years ago it was a lucky punch….. u just start watchen mma???? seems like it!!!!!!!!!!!
