MMA Quick Quote: Nick Diaz may have sent the Tito Ortiz business into Chapter 11

"I actually just got released from my doctor to start doing my weight training, which I've been doing the last seven days. I kind of need to hold myself back a bit because I want to go harder. But the doctor says, 'Take your time, take your time.' I'm six months out now. I've got about another month-and-a-half or two months and I can start wrestling again. I see 'Babalu' out here running around flapping his lips. That might be a pay-per-view fight. After the fight they're going to be saying 'Baba-who?' I'm excited to get back in the cage and compete and give all of my fans the best that I do, [although] tonight was kind of a letdown, watching Frank (Shamrock) lose. I wanted that rematch, but the way he looked? Thanks, Nick. I appreciate it. It's like watching money go out the window."
-- Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz -- who is still waiting for his UFC contract to expire -- talks about his future at the post-fight press conference for Strikeforce: 'Shamrock vs. Diaz' from the HP Pavilion on April 11. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy," who has a tendency to flirt with any promotion not owned by Zuffa, is currently recovering from back surgery and looking for a place to call home. Will it be Strikeforce? Money talks ... does Tito walk?
Check out Ortiz and Sobral jawing ringside this past weekend in the stands at the Strikeforce show after the jump.

Tito is an idiot. He’s coming off a loss of his own. Ill put money on that whoever he fights he will lose.

I don’t know about you guys, Tito has always fought tough competition, and has been fighting with a bad back! Strikeforce won’t be a good fit because Tito relies heavily on his use of elbows. Watch, he’ll end up back in the UFC! Mark my words, it’s about money and exposure that no one else can give him besides UFC!

Good point!was thinking the same.

Let’s just hope that Dana says no thanks Tito. Who needs a guys who is trying to take you down from the inside out. I just watched the Affliction and Strikeforce bouts with Tito doing the color commentary. Tito is easily the 2nd or 3rd best color guy in the business. He should stick with that. Cause that’s his only chance if being in the to 5 of anything again. I don’t care to watch this old dried up sack of sht fight again. Anyone who treats thier employer and thier boss the way he did should be kicked to the curb forever.

He’s gonna get more exposure more money and all of that in STrikeforce.. only possibility of Tito coming back to the UFC is if Dana gets fired

Hey Tito, is there any organization you’re NOT apparently going to be fighting for?
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 14, 2009 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
how is strikeforce going to make him more money and get more exposure? Thats just a dumb statement. Tito sells PPV’s, he’s one of the handfull of guys that gets backend ppv deals. Dana knows Tito sells, lets be a little bit realistic. There is personal issues and then there is business. After this surgery, Tito could again be top 5 and he’s a master at self promotion and hyping a fight! You could put tito against a mute deaf blind fighter and it would sell a ton of ppv’s (not just due to the freak aspect! Like him or not, he sells!

Right, I forgot how awesome a businessman Tito is. Been a while since I watched The Apprentice…
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 14, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
ok make sure to watch it again then.. that’s a basic business move you use in every sport to make sure you’re signing for the right org/club/league..

lol, I poke fun at the fact that he thinks he’s a great businessman, but he is great at self promotion. An idiot could see that he’s doing the smart thing by having a bidding war. It’s the same as a baseball or basketball player entering free agency, they don’t just talk to one team! I agree with and respect most of your posts jeremyjackson, but if you don’t think he’s doing a smart thing, you’re crazy! Also, for those of you not hip to the UFC contracts, if he signs with ANYONE before june, they have the right to match the deal! do some research before you comment!
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Tito is good at promoting himself… but I don’t think he realizes that he just isn’t that big a draw anymore. Most of the people that do want to watch him fight are hoping he’ll get his ass kicked.
As far as talking to the other organizations, that’s great… but what’s his leverage? Affliction is going to fold, Dana hates his guts, and I doubt he wants to fight in Japan with his new brood at home. It’s Strikeforce or bust for melon-head.

It was pretty obvious at the end that all Dana wanted was to hurt his career by giving him idiotic matchups and publicly stating how much of a moron he was whenever he had the oppurtunity…
You’re right Kevin, Tito sells and always has!
I guarantee you that there wouldn’t be any question about who is or was the biggest profile in MMA if only Dana would have liked him..
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 12:43 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jeremy, it doesn’t matter if ppl likes him or not.. he is a big draw and has always had that bad boy image.. you’re watching him fight to see him get his ass kicked, not me..
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 7:33 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I dont think he is as big of a draw as he used to be. BY now, all the die hard fans are sick of all his empty promises about how all his fights are going to be great. I personally cant stomach one dimensional wrestlers! Even worse is a wrestler that doesnt even attempt to pass guard!
HOld up Rob! you want to talk about how great of a fighter Tito is, but then you call the match ups Dana booked for him “Idiotic”? If you want to call yourself a top fighter….I dont think being matched up against other top LHW’s like Forrest, Rashad and Machida is idiotic at all!
To me Tito is the same as Frank Shamrock…ALL TALK!!! Both run around calling themselves the greatest yet they NEVER back it up in the cage! THese 2 idiots are perfect for each other!
Kevin: HOw could you say that fighting for Strikeforce on CBS or showtime is not exposure?
Tito better not come back to the UFC. UFC LHW’s are just way too good for Tito. I dont think Tito could beat 90% of the UFC top 10 LHW’s. Do you guys have any idea what Forrest or Rashad would do to Tito if they had a rematch? Liddell would still destroy him…Rampage would make him look like a lightweight thats NEVER wrestled a day in his life. Machida made him look like an amateur.. I dont even think Tito could beat Matt Hammil right now!
All we had to do was listen to Tito’s same pre-fight crap for years. “my back is finally healthy”…I have been fighting hurt for years…yada yada yada… Now I am healthy and I am going to kick ass. Then he has a lackluster performance and blames it on his bad back again…..HOw arent youi guys fed up with his crap! Hearing that Tito still has fans, just makes me cringe! To me, he is more of a WWE superstar than a real fighter!
YOu guys know I hate Forrest…If I say Forrest will destroy someone, then that someone SUCKS!!!!!

LOL. Tito is a good businessman because that’s what he wants to be seen as. He projects it. He shows up in suits everywhere and goes on Celebrity Apprentice and that makes him a business man. Like Obama is Abe Lincoln and Diego Sanches is a deep and spiritual thinker.
by wAyNe on Apr 14, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
who cares about MMA fighters? Tito is a business man and everybody that’s involved in MMA IS their own business.. no john, i’m not talking about how great of a fighter Tito is i’m just saying that he’s a legend and the best entertainer that there has ever been in the game! I look at the whole package, not just fighting which you tend to do, a guy like Machida that’s a great fighter is as far from becoming a star as you could ever be, but still a great fighter as i said..
I see everybody for who they are, and Tito has actually surprised me with his skills…
I meant that thing about idiotic matchups, Dana walked around saying how Tito hadn’t looked good in years, and the next thing you know he matches him up against F’in Machida that is an absolute top fighter with a style that they knew wouldn’t fit Tito!
give me your top 10 and i’ll tell you who Tito beats..

and Machida isn’t a top ranked LHW?.. everybody loses to that guy, and he took him 3 rounds and almost finished him.. I’ll put everything i own on Tito coming out victorious in his first fight back!

I’d put huge money on Tito beating Jardine, Wanderlei, Griffin, T.Silva and all of those guys and he’d have a good chance to win over Rashad again!.. Tito should already have had his rematch against Rashad! If anyone’s an idiot it’s Dana and all of his fans are stupid mofo’s too..
by RoB on Apr 13, 2009 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I agree completely. I believe he could beat anyone of those you named. Think he would lose badly against Rampage or Machida again though. Dana’s a tool, who’s letting his emotions cloud his business sense as usual.
Like him or not, tito sells! UFC could make huge money by billing a big Tito comeback, it’s win win for Dana. Shove him in straight at the deep end against Jardine, Thiago Silva or whoever. If he gets beat badly, you were right all along Dana and make loadz of money. If he wins you get to make loadz more money and eventually see him destroyed in another money spinner. Win win!

I love people who remember atheletes as if they were 25. Tito can’t beat anyone in the to 10 mabey top 15. Who cares as long as the UFC keeps him out I will be happy. He needs to start his own league like he was talking about. He should call it the XFC and get Vince M and the WWE to float him the cash. I’m sure all the fighters would get paid top dollar then.
by CANADA Michael on Apr 14, 2009 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
We’re not talking about Ken Shamrock here pal! I’m no Tito lover, but he’e easily top 10 if he’s fit. No way he could be no1 again, or even top 5, but it wasn’t so long ago he beat Forrest and drew with Rashad.
by attakdog on Apr 14, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
no, Tito has a hard time against certain style of fighters.. and since when is money unimportant? money is everything ffs! especially since MMA is still a small business when it comes to the money these guys make..
by RoB on Apr 14, 2009 10:48 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll second that. It takes a certain style of fighter to beat Tito, i.e. heavy hands and great takedown defense. He was a great coach on TUF and he’s tried his best to make things better for fighters. Misquided? Maybe, but how the hell has that made so many people negate what he accomplished against Machida, Rashad, and Forrest. Chuck had his ticket, but that doen’t mean he sucks.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Apr 13, 2009 11:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs

I think a lot of people saw their money go out the window this past weekend thanks to Nick Diaz.
by Danza Macabra on Apr 13, 2009 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
only the morons. Nick is capable of fighting at 170, and being a big welter weight at that! I’d put him right in the WW title picture if he wanted to go to the UFC! I’m not joking! He has quick and good stand up with a great reach as well as better jits than any WW in the UFC! He can hang with anyone and always puts on a good show. Before all you guys jump on me and mention KJ, he cut Nick, he didn’t hurt him and Nick wanted to keep fighting. The surgery corrected the cut problem and look, KJ wants no part in a rematch, does he?!

He may be a top ww, but I think GSP wipes the floor with him and still has enough left in him to finally land the celebratory backflip.
by naturalshadow on Apr 14, 2009 1:35 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
but saying GSP beats him isn’t saying much, GSP will beat any current WW and at 6’1, diaz would pose a threat!
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 1:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Jesus Christ you people! Diaz beats a washed up Frank Shamrock who was last relevant in like 1997, and suddenly that qualifies him to kick GSP’s ass?? WTF? Why stop there, shove him in their with Anderson Silva after he obliterates GSP, let’s go proper crazy!
by attakdog on Apr 14, 2009 11:59 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
where did anyone say he beats GSP?
actually the post says GSP will beat him and everyone else at WW, go get hooked on phonics douche monkey!
by kevin on Apr 14, 2009 1:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
douche monkey??? Great insult, and you Americans wonder why the world hates you!
The mere fact that you’re mentioning Diaz in the same breath as GSP is just completely ridiculous and insulting. You’re the one that used the phrase “would pose a threat”! Yeah he would for possibly three seconds! He wouldn’t even be 1000th on GSP’s “people I must beat before I die” list.

Apparently there is some confusion. There are some nuthuggers out there who are so stupid, they will deny facts of history. FOR THOSE WHO ARE RETARDED AND REFUSE TO LOOK AT RECORDS:………. PATRICK COTE DID LOSE FOUR IN A ROW IN THE UFC. ORTIZ, DOERKSEN, LEBEN, AND LUTTER. HE THEN WON 4 IN A ROW IN THE UFC TO GET A TITLE SHOT. CHECK UFC.COM.
WHO WANTS TO DISAGREE?

No, this dude missed something. Like a happy childhood, friends, etc…
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 14, 2009 1:05 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
sdow, what you’re missing is that UFC.COM only lists cote’s UFC fights. cote lost to ortiz, won his next fight outside ufc, was brought back and lost two in a row, GOT CUT, won two in a row outside ufc, was brought back for TUF, lost to lutter, and then won five in a row.
go to cote’s wikipedia page for his FULL FIGHT RECORD.
you’re assuming he had no fights in between his ufc fights. you’re also assuming the four losses he had in ufc happened without him getting cut. they didn’t.

did anyone notice the geico insurance money face guy on tito’s picture? i take time to appreciate good humour… props to mania for that one!
the huntington beach b*tch boy has always been about the money… he doesn’t like getting hit and wants as much money as he can get for his undeniable ability to hype a fight… don’t talk to me about “drawing power” ortiz is a one-trick pony, gound and pound wrestling… modern day coleman. come to think of it, he’d do a good job in the ufc as pres. after dana retires. (i hope im not alive to see that day)
from day 1 tito wanted big $ when the UFC was $40,000,000 in the hole and struggling to keep afloat… anywhere else in life u make a name for yourself… work your way up, earn respect, get respect, get money.
Tito will be remembered in mma unfortunately not for his accomplishments, but as the fighter everyone loved to hate. BJ Penn is the same way… the only difference? BJ Penn can fight, and with the exception of the GSP fights, Penn backs up his talk.

Tito is finished. He’s just trying to milk a payday if anyone will book him. He needs to go fishing, take care of his two twins that walked out of their mother’s vagina twirling a cane, and see if he can get some plastic surgery to reduce the size of that huge melon head of his.

Hahahahahaha Tito is so gold, everything he says is so funny.
He is a little bit vacant upstairs, if you wanted to make Tito’s eyes twinkle all you’d have to do is shine a torch in his ear.
I like how he has recycled his trash talking phrases from Rashad Evans, because his vague collection of neurons is completely incapable of coming up with anything on its own.
RASHAD EVANS UFC 73: After this fight everyone’s gonna be like ‘Rashad who?’? [Rashad now LHW champ]
BABALU: After this fight everyone’s gonna be like Baba-who? [Baba smashes Tito into a living death, then digs him up and kills him again]
