Alistair Overeem: I will defend the Strikeforce Heavyweight title on June 6

Props: Jarry Park
Quoteworthy:
I'm in talks now with Scott (Coker) and I'm going to fight on June 6 to defend my heavyweight title. The time has come for me to come back to America and defend my title. I think there's a lot of guys here that would make interesting fights, and I'm really looking forward to kicking some ass.
"Demolition Man" puts the Strikeforce heavyweight division on notice with his impending return to the San Jose-based organization on June 6 to defend the title he captured from Paul Buentello via second round TKO way back in November of 2007. Prior to dropping a close decision to World GP 2008 Champion Remy Bonjasky at last months K-1 event, Overeem had won five straight consecutive bouts — including a first round destruction of former K-1 heavyweight champion Badr Hari at the Fields Dynamite!! super show on December 31. Perhaps a win for Brett Rogers on Saturday night can put in motion a possible title match later this year?

HOw could he make him an offer when he has an existing contract with both DREAM and Strikeforce?
Strikeforce needs to get him a legit challenger. Just building up Brett Rogers to fight Alistar is NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! What strikleforce needs to do is sign Fabricio Werdum and give him the title shot right away.
Alistar vs. Wedrum! Get-r-Done!!

I wonder if he’ll be smaller on June 6th? Hmmmm…

I agree John…they need to get some legit competition for him to make it worthwhile bringing him over.
Although I really enjoyed seeing him demolish Buentello it just wasn’t competitive for him at all. He is a TRUE heavyweight now and he needs a Barnett, Werdum, Crocop type matchup to get me interested. Hopefully Coker can make it happen.

NO he wont be any smaller! He was HUGE last time he fought Buentello in the states, why would that change now? Alistar is not on Roids. If anything he is on hGH, which cant be detected, so expect him to look the same on June 6th as he has in the past year. nOthing will change.
I dont accuse fighters of being on roids, unless they test positive….and I wish that you guys wouldnt either! since you cant test for HGH, I dont really care who gets caught using roids…because there are tons of athletes in ALL PRO SPORTS that are taking HGH, and NO one will ever know about it.
Stop tarnishing fighters name’s until they fail drug tests u trolls!

Ca4z: Since Sergei Kharitonov is one of those fighters that refuse to sign exclusive contracts, strikeforce would be smart to sign him.
I would love to See a Rematch between Sergei vs. Alistar for the title!

The mEGA BOXING BOUT between Tim sylvia vs. Ray Mercer will be fought in a cage. This is an alltime low for mma! Dana must be laughing his ass off!

It does sound in this interview like Alistar knows more then he is letting on. its sounds like its pretty set in stone that affliction would send one of its Heavyweights over to fight Alistar…which I think, would be a great thing!
I would give my Right arm to watch Alistar vs. Arlovski!
by john on Apr 11, 2009 8:18 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Alistair would drop Arlovski. I can’t wait for timmy to get KO’d by Mercer. I don’t know why Monte couldn’t just have the mma and boxing fights in a ring.

I still would want to see it NNR!…Monte Cox should have more respect for the sport that has made him a lot of money. He is really pissing me off!
Hey Ceaser….Back to reality buddy. Kongo is in the uFC! hahah joking!

there’s nothing wrong with accusing all the guys over in Japan of doing roids and that stuff.. what’s wrong is that they don’t have tests over in Japan, it would be so much better for the sport if they had that..

Arlovski would knock Overeem into a coma.

Which is probably a good thing. He is carrying wayyy too much muscle. He gassed against Remy very badly. He needs to shed some beef to compete against Brock and co.

makes you think how far Chuck has fallen….he would never beat Overreem today….

All you that say he needs to go to the UFC need to cool it. They already have a ton of sick fighters. Infact, they have so much that we have to wait a long time to see most of them fight even though they have 1-2 monthly events, which is mind blowing. Be ok with the comp having decent fighters. It isn’t the end of the world if there is more than one good org.

the problem is other companies are goig tits up. ufc is the only stable company going at this point. no other company already has its 3rd show from booked and card filled put. most decent fighters fight around 3 times per year in the ufc. you wont see fedor more than twice.

Of course Chuck wouldn’t beat Overeem today—Overreem has put on 20-30 pounds of muscle! Chuck vs. Skinny Overeem, however, would be the same fight—which is not to say Chuck would win. If you go back and watch the fight, Overeem was pretty much dominating Chuck the entire round before Chuck caught him with the overhand right. The fight would play out the same way today—if Chuck caught him, he would fall.

Chuck would beat Overeem at 205 anytime. He has already proved it.
by mike on Apr 11, 2009 8:20 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
That’s a very stupid statement. If Chuck gained 45lbs of muscle, yes he would beat overrated Overeem. He would knock his ass out like he did the last time they fought. At least Chuck didnt get chased out of his division like Overeem did.

Overeem-Werdum rematch, lets see it happen.

Mwahahaha. This is exactly what I asked for, and Strikeforce has delivered.
Lawler vs Shields
Sobral vs Cavalcante
Overeem vs anyone
Awesome show.
Glad I picked up my cageside seats. MONEY!
And the fool who says Overeem would drop Arlovski is a moron. Arlovski got dropped by Fedor, the greatest fighter on the planet. Overeem is nowhere close to Fedor.

Werdum vs Overeem would be tight im sure STrikeforce can afford to pay Werdum twice what he made in the UFC and obviously the same amount he was making before being cut.
by Khaos_Warrior on Apr 11, 2009 3:50 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
how much was he making? alot of UFC fighters make peanuts.
by Bill Maher on Apr 11, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I would also like to see him in the UFC to see how he fares in that division.
