Strikeforce weigh in results for 'Shamrock vs Diaz' event on April 10

The official weigh-in event for Strikeforce: "Shamrock vs. Diaz" took place today (April 10) from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos once again failed to hit her mark, coming in seven pounds over the contracted 145-pound weight limit for her showdown against Hitomi Akano. She has several hours to lose at least 2.5 pounds, which would get her within six pounds of her opponent, otherwise the bout will be scrapped.
Stay tuned.
Here are the complete "Shamrock vs. Diaz" weigh in results:
179 lbs.: Frank Shamrock (180) vs. Nick Diaz (180)
155 lbs.: Gilbert Melendez (154) vs. Rodrigo Damm (154.5)
185 lbs.: Benji Radach (184) vs. Scott Smith (184)
145 lbs.: Hitomi Akano (143.5) vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (152)*
265 lbs.: Ron Humphrey (239.5) vs. Brett Rogers (262.5)
185 lbs.: Buck Meredith (185) vs. Luke Rockhold (186)
185 lbs.: Waylon Kennell (185.5) vs. Eric Lawson (186)
185 lbs.: Raul Castillo (183) vs. Brandon Michaels (187.5)**
170 lbs.: Zak Bucia (170) vs. James Terry (170)
135 lbs.: Shingo Kohara (136) vs. Jeremy Tavares (134.5)
Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.
* Cyborg has until 8 p.m. PT to shed at least 2.5 pounds
** Michaels also missed the mark on his first attempt
The five-fight main card is set to air live on the premium cable network, Showtime, beginning at 9 p.m. ET tomorrow evening (April 11). Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the televised action, which will all go down from the HP Pavillion in San Jose.
Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that at around 7:30 p.m. ET.
Be sure to check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight coverage you can handle … especially if you plan to pass on watching the Showtime telecast.

Kevin, excellent pics, man. Did you have a special access pass or were all these fighters that available for a normal weigh-in attendee?

This sucks. I guess one more fighter on my “not making weight” bash list. unless it comes out that it was due to injury and hitomi/strikeforce knew.

You do know that it’s a lot harder for women to cut weigh than it is for men, right?
by zachy on Apr 10, 2009 11:25 PM EDT up reply actions
i’m sorry…was that supposed to be a legit excuse?
by JB on Apr 11, 2009 9:15 AM EDT up reply actions
Is that what your enormous girlfriend told you while she was lieing on the couch and stuffing her face with Cheetos?
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 11, 2009 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions
Im not 100% sure but I think i may have seen guys come in heavy also (lutter, filiho, ALVES, and several other high level male fighters)…Clown.

That Cyborg dude should just move up in weight.
It should fight Carano next. That fat slut can’t make weight either.
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 10, 2009 6:54 PM EDT reply actions
lol, I tell you what, cyborg looked good in a bikini
by kevin on Apr 10, 2009 6:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I like this fight, you have a juicer and a pot head … should be interesting :)
by DownUnder on Apr 10, 2009 8:09 PM EDT reply actions
Who’s a juicer? Do you have proof? If not, STFU and dont falsely accuse people.

I hope diaz wins frank shamrock just looks like a goof with his braces
by mmawarrior on Apr 10, 2009 8:17 PM EDT reply actions
sorry bout this, totally off topic but i just watched the matt hughes – Royce Gracie fight again a that doesnt seem like that long ago and hughes looked huge there, then if you look at him in the alves fight he looked skinny and unhealthy there, has he really gotten that much smaller or have his opponents just got bigger
by hughes on Apr 10, 2009 9:33 PM EDT reply actions
catchweight fight, hughes said he loved being at 179 i believe
by Jared on Apr 10, 2009 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah the Hughes/Gracie fight was at a catch weight of 175. (Plus he was fighting Gracie who didn’t have much muscle so it made Hughes look even bigger when he was next to Gracie.)
In the Hughes/Alves fight, Alves didn’t make weight and was relatively bigger which made Hughes look smaller than he is.
by ProKev on Apr 11, 2009 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions
Hughes has definitely been significantly smaller in his last few fights. He got away from the heavy strength training and went with a leaner look. It hasn’t worked out for him because his forte is wrestling and brute strength goes a very long way in that discipline.

HELP does anyone know where this will be streaming?
by jammin on Apr 10, 2009 9:48 PM EDT reply actions
Check either channelsurfing.net or justin.tv and one will have it for sure.
by halljam2 on Apr 10, 2009 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope shamrock breaks nick’s jaw so we don’t have to listen to any of his moronic rants for awhile.
