That looks like Serra on Hughes, to me. Not Hughes on Serra…

hey maniacs, don’t forget dream 8 is on tonight also. great night of mma!
.
I had a crazy dream I wanted to share from last night. (good segway huh?)
I posted on bloody elbow for like a week because for some reason mania wasn’t working. only problem was, they only had like 3 other people posting, so no good feedback, then mania popped back up. what a nightmare it was!

speaking of dreams Kevin….I dreamed Shogun battered Chuck in the standup and then submitted him? I tell you it felt so real I actually woke up saying “I’m scared for Chuck”…..
by Robert(1) on Apr 4, 2009 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions
Shogun was fighting well inside of an octagon? That is a crazy dream.

Either way, I got Serra to kick Hughes’ butt and take this one with a 2nd RD sub (most likely a triangle).
by DJ on Apr 4, 2009 12:14 PM EDT up reply actions
Lol that is the most ridiculous prediction I heard. I got Serra wining by sub, triangle no less? lol If Serra gets taken to the ground and is on his back he is going to lose no doubt in anyones mind. Thanks tho man I needed a good laugh

Hughes might still beleive he has stand up skills. If he does he it will either be a ko or a tko. Serra has much better stand up than Hughes, and I believe a better chin as well. Even though he lost that Karo match Serra definately showed that he can strike and take a decent punch. I see him landing the better shots and getting the win. I also do not see Hughes being anywhere close to as good as he used to be with the loses he has sustained (yes I do realise who he lost to) and his time away from the octogan. I hope Serra lays a beating on him.
by Ade on Apr 4, 2009 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Serra will win and decided to go extreme with a bold prediction on the finish…. try it sometime yourself. And I am glad this ounce of text had such a dramatic impact on your life.
by DJ on Apr 5, 2009 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions
your crazy! Hughes will win and be back on his winning ways. Serra is a one hit wonder. He held the belt for one fight! Come one lucky punch is what he got!!!!!!

It was more like a lucky 10 piece combo… Its really hard to get those with just luck…

Isn’t this supposed to be Matt Hughes’ last fight? I remember him announcing he has 3 fights left in him. He fought GSP and Alves already, so this should be his last. I don’t think Hughes even wants to fight anymore, just doing it for the pay checks and getting it over with. He’s still fairly young but he doesn’t seem to improve, its always the same.
by james on Apr 4, 2009 7:13 PM EDT up reply actions
NM! What? Not a Matt Serra fan!
Matt Serra has NEVER put anyone to sleep, and Hughes has only been KO’d once (by Pele). He took the GSP headkick + elbows and punches and was still there. He was rocked, but not KO’d. He took Thiago’s knee in the face + punches and was not KO’d. There is NO evidence to suggest that Serra will put him to sleep. Sure, theres a possiblity of it happening, and a possibility of Serra clipping him behind the ear like he did GSP, but I believe it wont happen.
This fight will be much like Hughes’ fight vs Lytle at 68, where Serra will attempt to bumrush him at the start of each round, in which Hughes will take him down and pound on him and look for submissions the whole round. Rinse and repeat.
Serra is a dog and can hang in there and survive, seeing as he has a high rate of lasting to the bell. But he will not mount any offense and will LOSE this fight.

I really don’t get how people can hate this guy. With the exception of Hughes, he’s classy to everyone. See how he told that guy to wait cause he wanted to talk to the kid…not many guys would do that.
by MM_Eh on Apr 4, 2009 10:50 AM EDT reply actions
i dont get it either man! To me Serra has one of the best personalities in the sport… He doesnt make excuses for his losses, and he doesnt trash anyone other than Hughes, who deserves to be trashed! I havent seen to mnany coaches on TUF that Genuinely cared about the young fighters the way Serra did….even on the TUF comeback show he was a class act!
Mmamania, you need to get ADam Wagner an interview with Serra. This site is way overdue for a matt Serra exclusive interview! Git-R-done mania!
I pray that Dumb-ass-Hughes is cocky enough to try out is pathetic stand up against SErra, that way I can watch Serra Knock him into next week!
War Serra, FOCK Hughes!

Shinya Aoki to Strikeforce?
i just saw this weeks Inside MMA and Scott Coker (Strikeforce founder) was a guest. they asked him, "True or False? Shinya Aoki will be fighting in America within a year." and Coker nodded his head and replied "True". Bas went on to say that maybe Coker will have some news for us about that in the future and Coker just kept smiling.
Bobby Lashly willing to take the TUF route to join the UFC. its hard not to appreciate the humble approach Lashley is taking in his mma career. The guy could be thrust into BIG money fights simply because of his star power, yet he is willing to do it the RIGHT way, and is even willing to spend months in that Hell whole also known as the TUF house.
War Lashely!
*DREAM 8*
I told you guys they would get a replacement to face Ninja. The last minute replacement is Team Grabaka fighter: Riki Fukuda (13-4)
by john on Apr 4, 2009 12:50 PM EDT up reply actions
Lashly has no other option but to take that approach, did you see his last fight???
by kevin on Apr 4, 2009 12:53 PM EDT up reply actions
He has plenty of options, hes a big name. If he wanted big fights he could get them. i Agree with john, more power to him for paying his dues.
by medecine balls on Apr 4, 2009 1:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree, but he struggled with an out of shape vet who took the fight on super short notice! Of course he’s willing to go on TUF, he couldn’t even 100% say he’d make it into the house from what I’ve seen of him!
by kevin on Apr 4, 2009 3:01 PM EDT up reply actions
With a 225 lb upper limit for heavyweights in TUF 10, I don’t see how Lashley could even make it past the initial weigh-in. He weighed in at 251.5 for the Guida fight.
by MMACrossifre on Apr 4, 2009 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions
As a lifelong wrestling fan, I can state with absolute certainty that Lashley has nowhere near the star power that Lesnar does. He needs to take the humble route if he wants to do anything. Going to a decision with Chubby Bear isn’t going to help him.
by PW on Apr 5, 2009 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions
I don’t see him doing the TUF show. He has people helping him with his career, and I can’t imagine that they see this as being a good idea. It is too big a risk. He may gain experience by fighting on the show, but unless he wins, he will make very little money. If he loses, then people will write him off. He can gain experience by fighting people in smaller shows, while making decent money at the same time for lending his name to smaller orgs.
by naturalshadow on Apr 5, 2009 1:54 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree john. I think Hughes is the type of person to over look someone and think he’s way better than him due to his cockiness. I hope Serra wins…but honestly who knows, both of these guys have been off for a long time (Serra more than Hughes of course).
by MM_Eh on Apr 4, 2009 11:31 AM EDT up reply actions
mania, dream 8 is taped delayed on hdnet the 10th, will it be live (streamed) from Japan anywhere ie justintv, etc.
by kevin on Apr 4, 2009 1:30 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m sure Serra would be willing. I train at one of his academies and he’s always willing to help out.
by YouveGotGold on Apr 5, 2009 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions
will u guys give it a rest please? Serra has said in about 100 interviews that he CANT make the cut down to 155 lbs anymore! Get over it! He is a welterweight now, and that is the way its going to stay!
by john on Apr 4, 2009 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions
Once again john, he WON’T cut, not CAN’T. Too much ravioli. If he wants to fight at WW that’s his business, but I hope he’s prepared to give up a huge size advantage to his opponent every time he steps into the cage. Not exactly a “recipe” for success.
I think it’s a moot point, because I predict his career is almost over. I don’t think his heart’s been in it for a while now, and Hughes is going to toss him around.
Seriously john, admit it. If Serra wasn’t a fellow spaghetti-slurper, you’d be hating all over him!
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 4, 2009 12:00 PM EDT up reply actions
I will admit that him being Italian makes me a fan more then I would normally be. Im not really a fan of Serra the fighter, I am a big fan of Serra the person. I think he will be a great coach, that will groom many young fighters for years to come. He is a positive force in mma for sure!
I will admit that Serra isnt a top 10 welterweight, but I dont think Hughes is either. I truly believe that Serra has a great chance at beating hughes…after that, he might as well retire and focus on his school! Hughes should just FOCK OFF!
by john on Apr 4, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m with you there. Serra seems like a good guy, and Hughes is an egomaniacal uber-douche.
by Jeremyjackson on Apr 4, 2009 1:20 PM EDT up reply actions
I know on the show Serra was a better coach, but with HIS actual camp, who good has come out of there? Drago? Scarola? I thought George (from TUF 6) was there, but he hasn’t fought in I don’t know how long). True, he may be a better coach than Hughes himself, but Hughes’ camp is better. He’s got Lawler, that guy from UFN Matt Veach, and maybe some others. Don’t kid yourselves by saying Serra is some great coach and his camp is some great school.
Hughes FTW.
by Synyster on Apr 4, 2009 2:03 PM EDT up reply actions
You only named 2 people that came from Hughes camp. Plus, you said “and maybe some others.”, so that really says nothing. I could care less about whos right, but that is just not a valid argument on your side. lol
by enzo-enormous on Apr 4, 2009 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions
as far as i see it 2 beats none enzo-schmuck
by marshin on Apr 4, 2009 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions
It is a valid argument. Serra’s camp doesn’t win, Hughes’ camp has multiple ex-champs (and one who was never defeated). I Said some others, because I didn’t know anyone else. I stated 3 from Serra, and 2 from Hughes. Big whoop. One more fighter.
No matter how you put it, the point comes down to Serra NOT having a school that puts out good fighters who can win. Even IF they “learn” a lot from Serra, for example jits, and they can’t apply it in a fight and produce finishes(like Serra himself) or wins, then the camp isn’t that “great”. Although Hughes self admittedly puts more emphasis on wrestling, his students have produced better results than Serra/Longo camp.
by Synyster on Apr 5, 2009 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions
yeah but Synyster: those arent really Hughes’s fighters. They are Hughes’s peers from the Miletich camp that just came over with Hughes when he left the Miletich camp….its not like Hughe’s had ANYTHING to do with Lawler’s career!
by john on Apr 5, 2009 10:40 AM EDT up reply actions
Hughes has plenty of influence on Lawler’s career. Just because Robbie doesn’t come out and try to wrestle, or because Matt stand up sucks doesn’t mean they dont work together. You can attribute Robbie’s takedown defense, submission awareness, and submission capability skills to Hughes. Robbie is always in his corner, and Hughes is always in his.
But I got distracted from my point. I didn’t mean to go off on which camp was better, but rather that I get the impression that you are making Serra’s gym out to be way more than what it is.
by Synyster on Apr 5, 2009 12:47 PM EDT up reply actions
The other day, he said to one of his best students, “if I ever drop back down to 155, you’ll be one of my training partners and we’ll roll all the time, but I don’t think I’m ever going back to 155”.
by YouveGotGold on Apr 5, 2009 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

Matt Serra on Matt Hughes.
Damn dude you must have been up all night drinking to screw that up.
by DIrtyML on Apr 4, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions
People don’t like this guy because he fights only once a year, and he stalled after he got the belt for as long as possible and then lost brutally.
+He got short man syndrome and that awful accent.
by Lester the Pimp on Apr 4, 2009 11:30 AM EDT reply actions
If you are gonna dog a guy for his accent, you need to go somewhere else. We are all born with an accent, anyway he didnt stall, he got hurt, its called being a fighter, they ALL get hurt, it happens. You also didnt mention that the man he lost brutally to is arguably the best fighter in the world, and at one point he knocked that man out, if you are gonna bash fighters, then know what you are talking about

Im rooting for Hughes and i see him winning decisively.

listen lester the molester, he had to do the show, plus he got injured..i am really curious to see who the UFC is going to put against Serra after he beats Hughes…Dustin Hazellet or Condit would be a good fight, but i would really like to see Serra fight BJ agian, although it well never happen.
by year of matt serra on Apr 4, 2009 11:39 AM EDT reply actions
Joe Scarola is that you?
I think Serra will drop to 155 or else he will fight someone that isnt at the end of their career and get demolished.
Maybe Gono or the loser of Davis/Hardy.
by DirtyML on Apr 4, 2009 11:51 AM EDT up reply actions
No, its Luke Cummo…Serra would kill Hardy once it hit the ground. have you seen hardy grapple? he looks like a beached whale flopping for water

Well Eddie Bravo says he’s got ground skills so I’ll take his opinion over yours.

Its been so long since the TUF season that I simply don’t care about this fight anymore. Maybe winner vs Kampmann and loser vs Condit? Or winner/loser of this match fight the winne/loser of Swick/Saunders?

Matt hughes on matt serra??? WTF I would have rather have seen that as I think it would have been more amusing, serra is an annoying goof not that hughes is much better. Its funny how no fighter other than penn or hughes wants to touch the grease gate thing LOL, they know it just looks like sour grapes, and I think the fact that hughes did it just makes serra more likely not to say anything. I think hughes will beat serra fairly easily in this fight, but like I said before most likely it will be a snooze fest, hope I’m wrong though, and the fight is similiar to hughes/penn 2 that would be cool but doubt it though.

Serra is a loser i cant stand him he shouldn’t be in the ufc except for huges to kick his ass huges by ground and pound sera tapping like a little bitch

Matt Serra is one of my favorite fighters of all time. He’s an east coast guy and I’m from the east coast so I understand him. I honestly don’t know how anybody can hate on this guy?

as long as he is not fighting GSP i like him, i hope he beats Hughes any way he can!
by bDavid on Apr 4, 2009 5:01 PM EDT reply actions
Matt Serra does seem like a good guy, I also don’t understand the hate. He has said some stupid things about French QUebec though, leading up to the second GSP fight, but I think that was a bad choice in humor.
As for his weight, I think he doesn’t want to drop to 155, not that he can’t. If GSP can make 170, Matt can make 155. You can see the fat around his belly. Just make it happen, Serra, if you want to compete for a title again. You can’t compete at 170.

Serra is a pudgy chunky greasy wop, he could make 155 if he had some self discipline, for gods sake sherk makes 155 he’s way more muscular than dumpy baldy. I hope hughes pounds the shit out of serra and embarrasses him, would be good for the sport and put serra were he belongs off the top 10 list.
