question to anyone who trains/fights—-
Im walking around at 150lbs, will be fighting at 135 at the end of may, and i want to lose about 5lbs and be walking aroudn at 145 to make the cut the 2 weeks before the fight easier…thing is i cant get below 150. my diet is -cheerio’s with milk for breakfast, health bar at about 10:00 am, turkey sandwhich on whole grain bread with some canned fruit and a bottle of water for lunch, a couple oranges around 4pm, and a chicken breast with a side of dry canned tuna for dinner. not eating any junk food or fast food, but still cant seem to drop any lbs. any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

I don’t know if this is healthy or not but it has worked for me. Stop eating carbs and eat strictly protein you should be able to drop 5 pretty easy. In addition you should be doing alot of cardio.

Cut out milk products…have eggs whites & whole grain toast or egg whites & fresh fruit for breakfast
Replace the canned fruit with fresh fruit…canned fruit has added sugar
Make sure the turkey isn’t deli meat which contains a ton of added salt
Drink a $hit ton of water, as the fight gets closer switch it to distilled & cut out all salt
Lastly, ask the other guys that fight at your gym, they should be helping you out anyways

Your body is in a plateau/conservation mode, which is a fat storing mode. You have to trick your body to lose the last few pounds. First you need to up you calorie intake and fat intake for a week. This reverses the body’s mind set from fat storing to fat overage/excess fat mode. The following week you can go back to you regular diet. You may want to limit cardio a bit on the fat storage week as well and then up it the week after.
Also you may not want to overtrain if your fight is at the end of may. This can lead to peaking too early.

Consult a physician. I wouldn’t be taking advice on an MMA blog site about my health. You are walking around at 150 right now and are having trouble losing weight. If you want to stay healthy enough to fight effectively go to a doctor or a physical therapist and ask them.
I am sure there are some pretty smart people on this site but what works for one person doesn’t always work for everyone. You need to make sure you are doing what is healthy for you and not just anything to lose the 5 lbs.
We all know that dehydrating yourself before a fight is unhealthy enough so you need to make sure you are eating right to keep your energy up.

i walk at 137-143 tops
i cut to 125
i eat whatever, but when it comes down to a month before fight day or grappling or wrestling events
i try and stick to chicken and fish
lots of water in morning 100 per oj
no heavy meals after 7 30 pm
no strict diet just eat good and weight dropps on its own
i think most i had to cut once was like 3 lbs
thats sayin with training of course

keep your cardoi up, run more or the bikes at the gym. eat more small snacks, stay not hungry is the best way to put it, like six a day, whats your body fat percentage?

Bad news***
Koschek injured his foot and will have to withdraw from his fight at UFC 98 against chris Wilson. They are currently trying to find Wilson a replacement.
I hate Kos but this is good news. Kos is from PA, so I now EXPECT him to be added to UFC 101 in Philly…Not only will I get to Booo Forest in Person, but now Koschek is going to have to feel my wrath! lol
I fully expect Kos to be added to UFC 101 main card, which will probably bump the Neer vs. Batman fight onto the undercard.
Keep in mind, NO is right now is saying Kos will fight at UFC 101, its just my hypothesis!

Andrew’s diet – just a few suggestions here:
- make sure your milk is semi skimmed or skimmed
- possibly try a cereal with less calories
- try not to take butter with your sandwiches (or if u need it take a low fat spread)
- take regular fruit instead of canned as it contains a lot of sugar and calories
- get lots of sleep at night as this is where you will lose most weight
- drink green tea as it is known to speed up metabolism (best to take this in the morning or pre work out
- train more (weights and long distance running are the best exercises when wanting to burn fat)
- drink more water – 1 bottle a day is nowhere near enough for an athelte – consume at least 2-3 litres per day

one guy accusing you of cheating is one thing, but multiple opponents accusing you is another, plus their is a video showing his cheating tactics. if he was Melvin Gullard he’d be on a years suspension right now with a no contest on his record. UFC cant have there champ on a years suspension makes too much money for them.

Nice little conspiracy theroy, but the athletic commission doesn’t give 2 shits about what Dana wants and it was the commission that made the ruling that GSP DIDN’T cheat. What’s pathetic is how someone can’t judge ones charactor when it is SO easy to plainly see GSP is anything but a cheater. Better than seeing Griffins ugly mug on there. The guy is average yet gets all the attention from the ufc. Liddell, Evans, Machida, Ortiz are just a few light-heavies who could beat him or have already. He s like a Jardine, he can fight but will lose at least 50 percent of the time.
Glad St Pierre made the Canadian cover.
