A battle between up-and-coming featherweight scrappers Cub Swanson (13-2) and Diego "The Gun" Nunes (12-0) has been removed from the WEC 40: "Torres vs. Mizugaki" event due to a hand injury suffered by Nunes, according to Versus.com.
A replacement will not be sought and Swanson will not compete on the card, set to go down on April 5 from the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.
This is an unfortunate setback for both fighters because the WEC’s featherweight division is starting to fill up with viable contenders for current champion Mike Thomas Brown. With guys like Urijah Faber, Wagnney Fabiano, Jose Aldo, Leonard Garcia and others ready and waiting for their chance, this and all 145-pound fights under the WEC banner have become very important.
The main card of WEC 40 will air live on the Versus network beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET on fight night and will feature a main event with hometown hero Miguel Torres defending his 135 pound title against Takeya Mizugaki.
