one of these days he might fight again, but I am with you I am sure something will happen,he has got to much time on his hands to get ready.

I wish that they would put out a prop bet on whether or not Amir fights at 101. NO would be a heavy favorite. I mean, seriously, when are we going to see this kid fight in the octagon? His training partners better be extra ginger with him and someone better wipe down the mats everytime someone hits the ground (so he don’t get staph again).
Come to think of it, I find it very ironic that a lot of people hated and continue to hate on Condit because of “lack of competetion” or what not and say that he blows, well, what about Amir? Who has he fought? Condit would have to be a 4-1 favorite at least against Amir.
by ViolentMike on Apr 2, 2009 4:42 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s off topic, but how do you guys like Anthony Johnson vs Dustin Hazelette or either one of them vs Condit? I think they can do good things with the up an commers at 170, but they have to start fighting each other. I’m tired of this building stars seperatley bull shit. Let them fight eachother so we can see who’s better.

The self-deprecating humor of these too is getting old. Does anyone think they are funny?

On the subject of TUF winners, heres an interesting tid-bit I found somewhere:
“With Ryan Bader’s unanimous decision victory against Carmelo Marrero, "The Ultimate Fighter" winners — excluding Matt Serra and Travis Lutter — are now a combined 53-15-1 inside the Octagon.”
Interesting.

Amir is a poor man’s forrest except he’s not funny.

Well I guess the TUF winners are properly babied so as to keep their records appealing.

Forrest will lose!! Thiago will knock forrest out..
by Leonardo on Apr 2, 2009 4:13 PM EDT reply actions
Forrest will beat Thiago in the first or second round.
by scott on Apr 2, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions
Scott! THat is the most Absurd statement I have read all day!
When the hell as Forrest ever finished a fight? Please dont mention Bill Mahood, and the King of Rock n Rumble! So now, all of the sudden you expect Forrest to Finish a Freaking ANIMAL? Fat CHANCE my friend. Thiago has an amazing chin, and it takes Lyoto-type striking precision to knock THiago out…something Forrest doesnt posses!
Pretty much, the only chance Forrest EVER will have of finishing a fight is by using his jits….Do u honestly believe he is going to out-jits a ju jitsu Black Belt? Fat Chance my Friend!
I am going to keep it real and give the “mma GUMP” some credit for a change. He does have heart, and he follows Couture’s gameplans really well….Thats about iT!!!! The ONLY reason Forrest is able to win fights at LHW is his SIZE…there is no arguing this. He is freaking HUGE..about 6’3, 240 lbs. He uses his size to grind out decision wins.
Personally, I think Silva will Finish him about midway through the fight…Forrest does have a good shot at winning, but the only way he can do so is by decision!
by john on Apr 2, 2009 4:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Forest is big, but he has a lot of heart.
He isn’t a great finisher but he takes a lot of abuse and he is always the underdawg.
He finished Shogun well enough, but your right, he probably wont finish Thaigo with jits, but as much of a ‘beast’ that he is he can still get KO’d.
by ShaiZ on Apr 2, 2009 4:39 PM EDT up reply actions
John, actually the last time Forrest won by (T)KO was the last time I was in attendance for a live event, UFC 55 at Mohegan Sun. I saw him steamroll the King of Rock n Rumble. Now, its looking like I’ll be attending UFC 101, and Forrest is on the card. Maybe, just maybe, ViolentMike being in attendance is exactly what Forrest needs to “buss a grape”
by ViolentMike on Apr 2, 2009 4:46 PM EDT up reply actions
I will have to respectfully disagree with you John, Forrest hasnt finished a fight since Shogun in 07’ but he only fought twice in 08’ which was his win/lose to Rampage and Evans.
You will be upset when Forrest walks thru Silva….if he loses then I will eat my words but till then i will say Forrest tko or sub in the 2nd.
by NM on Apr 2, 2009 5:39 PM EDT up reply actions
finishing an injured and completely out of shape Shogun by just hanging on him for almost 15 minutes isn’t exactly impressive!
by RoB on Apr 2, 2009 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions
The critisisms on Forrest are fair till he’s able to prove differently. However, I also remain unconvinced Thiago Silva is anything more than a middle-of-the-pack sort of fighter. Again, this is an interesting fight in that both guys have a lot to prove. The loser will drop a long way out of contention.
by CL on Apr 2, 2009 6:32 PM EDT up reply actions
Forrest also finished Elvis Sinosic(?)….. Leave it to John to hate on Forrest.
by Psyqo78®™ on Apr 2, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Forrest is gonna try to stick and move but he’ll quickly realize that he doesn’t have enough firepower. Also trying to ware down thiago means you have to get close to him which means there’s a high probability of being put down.
by NameNotRequired on Apr 2, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m in on the hate too, and it’s mostly because of the treatment he gets from the UFC!.. Another thing i can’t stand is that the commentators (Joe & Mike) are hired and controlled by The UFC, they’re so biased towards certain fighters..
by RoB on Apr 2, 2009 7:57 PM EDT up reply actions
I wonder, if John didn’t inspire all this hate on Forrest, if everyone else on here would be so vocal about it and say he gets special treatment and sucks and gets easy fights.
I really like Forrest, and I really like Thiago Silva, but Forrest has proven himself already as a strong and disciplined fighter, whereas Silva has never really faced opposition, other than Machida. You can make an argument by saying Antonio Mendes with the head kick, but I think that Silva just underestimated him and got caught sleeping. Silva is a tough and dangerous fighter, and even if he’s fought cans he’s finished all but one, so that speaks volumes.
In the end though, I see Forrest winning a decision, and T.Silva will then get a can, then brought up slowly, and eventually into a title contender.
by Synyster on Apr 2, 2009 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Rob and John just hate on Forest because he beat Rampage.
Rob that is so lame to say you hate Forest due to how the UFC treats him,so you must hate Rampage to because the UFC sure favors him giving him a title shot with 1 fight in the UFC then when he loses he is gurentee a shot after one win until Evans could not come to terms.
Enough with the excuses for Shogun,I like Shogun as much as the next guy and for Forest to beat him was very stunning he was ranked number 1 in the world at that time.
IMO T.Silva will NEVER get a shot at the title and will eventually fade away!!He is not at the same level as any top fighters including Forest!!
by NM on Apr 2, 2009 11:08 PM EDT up reply actions
RoB — Mike and Joe are biased toward certain fighters? Like whom? And what does “biased” mean in this context, anyway? Joe favors grappling, because he’s a grappler. But I don’t see him favoring them. I’ve been watching UFC for a while now, and I haven’t seen what you’re suggesting.
by MMACrossifre on Apr 3, 2009 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions
It means that when you’re watching a fight with a guy from TUF like Forrest you have to sit there and listen to their crap non-stop.. they are owned by the UFC and they’re being told what to say and what not to say..
NM – Shougn that night was as badly injured and out of shape as Nog was when he fought Mir.. that is not excuses that is facts!
by RoB on Apr 3, 2009 8:33 AM EDT up reply actions
HOld the F up! Im not hating on Forrest at all, in my above post! I give him a great chance of beating my boy THiago! The only thing I was trying to say is that Forrest wont be able to Finish Silva….hows that hating? whats so wrong about that? He cant finish fights, and I dont think he can finish Silva….Thats a pretty factual statement for the most part if you ask me.
rob, thanks for having a brain man! Great posts! Like Rob mentioned, the reason I hate on Forrest so much, is cause I dont feel that he has truly earned his spot….He is a silver spoon UFC fighter that like Rob said, gets it easy from the UFC. and listening to Roga/Goldberg, distort the fight commentary to favor Forrest is just pitifull!
How is any of this a knock on Forrest? All I simply said, is that he is a top fighter, with the least ability to finish a fight…up there with Sean Sherk! We bashed Sherk for ages about not finishing fights….why should Forrest get a pass?
by john on Apr 3, 2009 10:35 AM EDT up reply actions
I think Silva is over rated. He hasn’t beat anyome good in the UFC. Sure he might be that good, but in his only test he did very poorly. Granted Machida is a huge test and a lot of good fighters would look bad against him, but I’ll wait until he’s beaten someone to put my faith in him.
by DB on Apr 2, 2009 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions
i second this. i will say it again. thiago silva is overrated. who has he beat? his biggest win is houston alexander? he is way to slow to give forest trouble. he is good but not top 10 .
by COR on Apr 2, 2009 7:04 PM EDT up reply actions
I dont think there are 10 UFC LHW’s that are better than silva at the current moment, but I will say that Forrest is clearly the favorite. Thiago is still very young kid, so he will only get better as time goes by. Iw ouldnt write him off just yet!

what do u guys think the chances of amir actually fighting are? I would say 75% it is extemely rare to have to pull out of two fights in a row and i havent ever seen somebody pull out of three in a row so im hoping he is fighting, as i will be getting tickets to this event

by WB on Apr 2, 2009 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions
Hey Matt. Im sure I have asked you this before, but where are u from that you are attending this event?
Im from south philly…about 10 blocks from the Wachovia Center where the fight takes place, but I spend a lot of my time at school (Drexel U).
I will be attending the event LIVE as well. I hate Forrest, but I am actually happy that he is on the card, that way I willo get to BOOOOOO the crap out of him in person, and Watch Thiago, show him how to finish a fight!
As for Amir, I am happy to see him back in action…the problem is that Amir presence on the card, makes the overall event, weaker. Think about it, Amir is one of their goldenboys, they want to build him up, so they will match him up against a tomato Can, and put him on the main card (televised). That takes away a main card slot for an actual deserving match up. If the UFC wants to showcase Amir, and build him up by having him fight bums….do it on a UFN card thats free….keep his ass off of ppv main cards, until they are ready to match him up against someone. This is my 1st live UFC event, and having him on the main card, takes away from a solid match up that should be booked for the main card.
I just dont get it…Amir won the show and is fighting a can…Escudero won the show, and they wanted to match him up against lil Heathen…makes no sense!
by john on Apr 2, 2009 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m with you John, we are now -1 for solid main card fights. Have they named an opponent for Amir yet?
by ViolentMike on Apr 2, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions
John-im from allentown which is about an hour north a philly.
As for as forrest i like the guy, he is a ambassador of the sport and is half the reason the ufc is where it is today, the other half is stephan bonnar. I think he will be able to beat thiago and i actually see him finishing the fight.
As far as Amir making the card weaker, i dont know about that amir has proven to be an exciting fighter and he himself is unproven an i at this point dont see him running through anybody the ufc throws at him. Any way this main card is looking pretty stacked. Florian vs. Penn, Griffin vs. Silva, Hammill vs. Vera and Neer vs. Pelligrino so far. I think it would be smart for the ufc to throw another bigger name from around the area on the card such as a frankie edgar or a josh koscheck but i dont know if that is possible since both are fighting in may. I also think Boetsch and Brian Stann train out of PA.
And as far as this being your first event, your in for a good time. I just went to my first event at ufc 96 and despite the lack of big fights it was a ton of fun, and the undercard action was just as exciting as the main card action.
by matt on Apr 2, 2009 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions
I personally don’t think Forrest is 50% responsible for where the UFC is today. I would have to say that Dana White, the fertitas, and Chuck Liddell were more instrumental than Mr. Griffin.

by Killer on Apr 2, 2009 10:49 PM EDT up reply actions
So the Griffen/Bonnar fight had nothing to do with it when Mr.Dana White said it himself?
by NM on Apr 2, 2009 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions
I believe MMA would have exploded in popularity without the Griffin/Bonnar fight eventually. It just would not have happened as quickly or convincingly. The public had been starved for years for a combat sport to fill the void left behind by boxing being such a mess. My worry is that boxing-type corruption will eventually find it’s way to foul up MMA. There are already signs. Enjoy the ride, as it may be fleeting.
by CL on Apr 3, 2009 12:37 AM EDT up reply actions
NM — I think Killer makes a good point, though I also think he underestimates the part the Forrest played in his fight with Stephen. If I had to assign a percentage, I’d say 25% Forrest, 25% Stephen (based on their fight), and the rest divvied up to predecessors. Obviously, the groundwork of Dana, the Fertita’s, Spike TV, etc., all played a huge role. Not to mention, the “stars” that came before TUF, like the Couture, Tito, Iceman, Hughes, etc.
by MMACrossifre on Apr 3, 2009 12:39 AM EDT up reply actions
Exactly, and not to forget that Tito was the one that fired everybody up for years long before that.. this is a guy that were the company’s biggest draw for years, and along with as you said Couture and ICeman they started to get success that they’d never seen before.. Tito set records when he fought Ken the first time, then they sold out the arrowhead pond in two days when he fought Forrest, had the biggest buy-rate when he fought Chuck the 2nd time, did the best they had ever done on Spike when he fought Ken.. and how you know that it were because of Tito is b/c he’s always been a huge draw no matter who he fought

Amir Who???
I hope Forrest loses, I can’t stand him, everyone I know loves the guy, but I just don’t. I still laugh when I watch Jardine-Griffin and seeing Griffin cry like a baby at the end of the fight. Anyways… Thiago over Forrest via leg/ankle-lock (one of these days my leg/ankle-lock prediction will come true). Winner should fight… Jardine? Vera? Winner of Chuck/Shogun? Who knows?

Amir won’t be able to fight, he might have an upset stomach (butterflies). Amir is a very likeable guy as we all have seen and some probably think that characteric of him is over the top and annoying- but injury prone professional athletes are hard to keep professionals. (Yes I know he had staph.)
