Ultimate Fighter 9 Finale set for The Pearl in Las Vegas on June 20

With The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 9 series debut on Spike TV set for tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 1) at 10 p.m. ET, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today made it plans official to hold the Finale from "The Pearl" at the Palms Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 20.
TUF 9: "U.S. vs. U.K." will feature a mix of lightweight and welterweight hopefuls from opposite sides of the pond, vying for "six-figure" UFC contracts and the prestige that comes along with being crowned champion. Former Pride FC dual champion Dan Henderson will lead the American team opposite his British counterpart, Michael Bisping.
The finalists from those divisions will also be featured on the televised Spike TV main card on June 20. Henderson and Bisping, meanwhile, are slated to duke it out less than one month later at UFC 100 for the right to challenge the 185-pound division champion down the road.
Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida will collide during a battle for lightweight supremacy and the opportunity to take one step closer to a possible title shot later this year in TUF 9 Finale main event. Former TUF winners Joe Stevenson and Nate Diaz are also expected to mix it up in another sensational 155-pound tilt slated for the Spike TV special.
UFC Fight Night 18: "Condit vs. Kampmann" will serve as the lead-in to TUF 9 tomorrow evening. It’s going to be a busy night and an even busier next few months for mixed martial arts fans. Time to wake up!

If guida loses this one he can always retire and have a successful Rodeo career!

It must be nice though if your Diego, you know you’re not going to get hurt. I guess the only fear will be that he won’t finish in a second fight at LW.

I’m just happy huggie bear’s win streak will be stopped. I can’t think of a more useless fight than Guida vs Penn.

I hope Diego makes him tap to strikes.
“if you tap to strikes, you’re a bitch”
even though BJ got his ass whooped in that fight, I’ve always agreed with that quote even before he said it. Unless a guy is seriously injured or the ref is retarded and keeps it going, a fighter should take his beating till the ref stops it.
by Synyster on Mar 31, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree Synyster! A fighter should NEVER tap to strikes. Certain fighters go out there and allow there bones to snap rather then tap…so take your ass whooping like a man. Tapping from strikes is something I Frown upon for sure!
Diego is going to destroy this fool and its about tIME!!! Guida’s wrestling will feel like a horny chihuahua dry humping his leg.
I dont really agree with this match up. Its stupid for Diego because Guida is a step down from stevenson, but its good for the fans, because we will finally see that boring caveman get ut in his place!
I dont care what the odds are….Big money on the weirdo!

If you’re done, you’re done. I’ve been rocked in kickboxing matches where I knew I was about to go out. If you feel that way, and punches are raining down on you and you’re equilibrium’s gone, there’s no shame in tapping.
Why sustain permanent physical damage that could impede your career and affect your quality of life when you’re done fighting? To prove you’re willing to get knocked unconscious? If the fight is clearl unwinnable, and you’re sustaining damage but the lights haven’t gone completely out yet, tap. I wouldn’t think less of a guy for doing that. Live to fight again another day. It’s not worth it.

You guys talk about getting knocked out like it’s no big deal. It’s called brain damage, man. The shit catches up to you, and life lasts longer than your career will span. If you know you can’t recover in time, bail out. I’ve had post-concussion symptoms… vertigo, nausea. It sucks. There’s tough, and then there’s stupid.

JJ-
That’s the point. Most of the guys here HAVE NOT done anything like that so there is no framework set in reality for them.
I used to box competively and I can tell you that I have been rocked to the point where I have dry heaved.
I took a knee because I saw images of Ali in my head.
Scary.
by OJR on Mar 31, 2009 5:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Yep.
I’d say pretty much everyone here would tap if they were mounted and being repeatedly smashed in the face whilst in a state of semi-consciousness. If the ref for some reason isn’t stepping in, and you for some reason aren’t going out, it’s the wise move. The reason you dfon’t see it happen more often is because the guy being smashed is too out of it to tap, not because they are choosing to endure an unnecessary beating.
In boxing and kickboxing, a fighter can take a knee when they’re hurt. Done it myself. In MMA you just lie there and get brutalized. Think how many MMA fights might have ended differently if a fighter had the chance to recover. Not that I want standing eight counts in MMA, I like the fact that you can pounce on a wounded combatant. It makes the fight more like the real thing.

Oh, and just for the record, you guys must have lost a lot of respect for BJ when he tapped from strikes against GSP. Which is exactly what he did.
He was getting punched in the face for four rounds. Then he quite knowingly quit and refused to face his opponent in the final round because he was SUSTAINING DAMAGE FROM STRIKES. In fact, to use your macho measuring stick, what he did was MORE cowardly than tapping while in the process of eating punches, because he had the chance to recover.

I don’t tap to strikes, but I DO tap when a girl gets naked near me. I mean, I get all, NOOOOO! GET ME OUT OF HERE, THAT’S SO GROSS!"
Because john is gay.

Great posts JJ, I was on the opposite end of the debate, but after reading your posts…Its hard to disagree!

Thanks john. You know I respect your MMA knowledge.

Looking forward to the stare-down for this one!!
I’ve got Diego, winning this one buy beating Guida at his own game. Overwhelming him with wrestling and cardio. Mix in the fact that guida can’t punch his way out of a paper bag and Diego has got his passage to a title shot.
by Nick J on Mar 31, 2009 9:10 AM EDT reply actions
If he would cut his freakin hair so he could see, that would probably help his stand-up tremendously.
by Dragon on Mar 31, 2009 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions
though i doubt he would have any skill i must agree it would help him a lot
by randy murders on Mar 31, 2009 11:13 AM EDT up reply actions
I’d say Diego’s gonna need one more big win before he gets a title shot. Sean Sherk, anyone?
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 31, 2009 6:12 PM EDT up reply actions
but very good fight i hope guida pulls out the animal that fought Huerta not huggie bear
by bellio on Mar 31, 2009 9:10 AM EDT reply actions
tough fight to call but a real good one for free…the question is who will have more cardio in this fight? it’s important to keep in mind this is Diego’s second fight in this weight class….will he have enough to deal with Guida? Diego vs Nate would have been a sick fight as well but I’ll take it…
by Robert(1) on Mar 31, 2009 9:25 AM EDT reply actions
hope Diego knocks him out cold! that would be sweet.
by RoB on Mar 31, 2009 9:27 AM EDT reply actions
I hope Guida takes this but I think Sanchez will sub him.
by Tim on Mar 31, 2009 9:45 AM EDT reply actions
I hope Sanchez beats the crap out of him first and then subs him….huggie needs a beating for those two pathetic hugging matches he just had.
by Ca$z on Mar 31, 2009 10:16 AM EDT up reply actions
Would love to see guida pulverize sanchez, but that’s a tough task and I think sanchez probably will win this fight.
by Dragon on Mar 31, 2009 10:00 AM EDT reply actions
Do you guys believe that Guida is a step up from Stevenson ? because i believe Stevenson would beat Guida
by wm133 on Mar 31, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions
damn i hate Guida. I hope he tries to fight this time and not try and ride his opponent like a backpack hoping for a decision. I hope Diego KO’s him back into the smaller shows where him and his brother belong

Looks like a good event in its own right this.

im going to be in vegas during this time!! i hope its not too expensive
by trigger72 on Mar 31, 2009 1:04 PM EDT reply actions
i think it goes the same way the joe daddy fight went. diego by a fast paced decision. regarding punching power, huerta claims the hardest punch he has been hit by while in the UFC was by guida.
by kneetotheface on Mar 31, 2009 1:14 PM EDT reply actions
I’m looking forwared to this fight.I think it will be quite simular to the Nightmare vs JoeDaddy fight.I don’t like the Carpenter very much. but he does show up for every fight that he is in. I just think that the 145 division would be better suited for his size.I expect theNightmare to win by UD.I think that he is just to big & strong for Clay.

hell yes! im a guida fan. diego better be prepared to battle a frenzied primate!

I can’t believe I’m actually rooting for diego, not a fan of clay and his boring style and is annoying wild hair. Hope Psycho wins and he gets a shot at the winner of penn/florian. One thing I noticed is he looked pretty skinny, he should try to pack on a little more muscle IMO.
by nathan on Mar 31, 2009 4:46 PM EDT reply actions
Well Synyster and John I disagree “If you tap to strikes your a bitch” if the ref isn’t stopping it and you don’t want brain damage your no bitch if you tap, quiting after a round is 10x’s more of a bitch IMO. Your referrence to the gsp/serra fight is a retarded one, gsp’s eqaulibrium was completely fucked…very different scenario you guys are morons. Penn is the biggest PUSSY I’ve seen yet in the octagon claiming to fight to the death and then QUIT INBETWEEN ROUNDS lMAO!!!! WTF…..lamo, was HE getting smashed at the moment…no, complete and utter BIYOTCH. :p
by nathan on Mar 31, 2009 4:56 PM EDT reply actions
people that say diego will overwhelm with his wrestling are retarded. guida is a very good wrestler as is stevenson and diego got stuffed so easy by joe daddy. i agree diego will win but hell win a standup fight
