No respect: Michael Bisping leads the British Bulldogs sacrifice on TUF 9

Props: DailyStar.co.uk

Quoteworthy:

" ... these guys gave it 110 per cent. They turned up in shape, they trained their asses off and they fought like British bulldogs. I can say Team UK does Great Britain proud. A lot of Americans, be they fighters, fans or even the media, don’t respect British MMA -- but Team UK represented British MMA very well, despite being so far from home.... They really went into this looking at it like the chance of a lifetime. Winning TUF 3 back in 2006 completely changed my life and the lives of my fiance and two kids. It was a huge turning point. I tried to impress upon Team UK what a huge opportunity they had.... They were training three times a day, but to get into the UFC you have to make sacrifices. I’m proud to say Team UK made those sacrifices."

-- The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 3 light heavyweight winner and coach on the upcoming ninth installment of the mixed martial arts reality series, Michael Bisping, is proud of his motley crew for their dedication and hard work as participants on the show. "The Count" will lead a 16-man team from the United Kingdom against Dan Henderson's American crew, beginning tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 1) on Spike TV at 10 pm ET. Bisping has indicated in interviews leading up to the debut that he will not tolerate the in-house shenanigans in seasons past, which have included everything up to and including all sorts of bodily fluids, as coach. It seems as though he may have gotten through to them ... we'll see for certain soon enough. God willing. Check out a refresher on the names of the UK participants after the jump.

Star-divide

Lightweights: James Bryan, Dan James, Gary Kelly, Jeff Lawson, Ross Pearson, Martin Stapleton, AJ Wenn, Andre Winner.

Welterweights: Dean Amarasinghe, James Bateman, David Faulkner, Tommy Maguire, Che Mills, Nicholas Osipczak, Alex Reid, James Wilks

I’m american and I want Bisping to win, no sense in having Hendo get his ass kicked by the spidey again.

by MikeD on Mar 31, 2009 11:58 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Im American and I will be rooting for THe count, and I honestly think he is going to beat Henderson!

by john on Mar 31, 2009 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

A brit will probably win the show in at least one of the weight classes

by john on Mar 31, 2009 2:26 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think UK is going to win both weight classes.

by JonnyBoy on Mar 31, 2009 3:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hendo takes this. Bisping will get killed in the clinch. Circling left won’t work this time.

by NameNotRequired on Mar 31, 2009 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

If Hendo wins (which Dana’ll see he doesn’t via split points decision) then Nate or Maia will get the shot anyway I reckon. Think Hendo’s a litle off getting another shot.

I truly believe the Count is a good(not great) fighter! But, I honestly believe that the UFC has carried Bisping! Dana is a shrewd crook, um, I mean, Business man. He needed someone like Bisping to capture the European audience! And it’s working! I don’t mean to dig up any bones, but, Hammil definitely beat him! And that’s not the only fight I saw handed to Bisping!

by Dana's a CrossDresser on Mar 31, 2009 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No disrespect to the Brits…trained with them in the military…I just think Dana’s using Bisping to open up the European market too…Hammil beat Bisping in UFC 75…Bisping will have to fight better fighters and win convincingly for me personally so change my mind about him…

So right on all counts.

Are you not a little bit more up for this one?? I am bias as i am from the UK but am really looking forward to this one.

The changed up format has added new life to it IMO.

by Nick J on Mar 31, 2009 10:59 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Has the format really changed?? One of the problems with the show is the long, drawn out foolishness preceding the fight, and after so many seasons, you start to get a feel for the TV-show component of it.

The show just drags on with mostly foolishness for 45 minutes and if the fight starts you realize it goes the distance. If it doesn’t start until 50 or so minutes in, you know it’s gonna end another way… like a KO or sub.

So, to not get hyped over the show does not mean anyone’s knocking MMA, it means the show has served its purpose and continuing to have new seasons is like looking for new spagetti sauce recipes.

I agree 100%

by JayZ on Mar 31, 2009 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I am not saying that its an ideal show but just this series at least has a twist to it.

by Nick J on Mar 31, 2009 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

We are debating the merits of a show that was not made for us fans that are emotionally connected to MMA. This show was designed and made for the MTV set. By that, I mean, a reality show for young men who are not yet fans of the sport.

I’m sure Dana and the suits at Spike are happy that we watch. That said, if we stopped watching tomorrow, I don’t think they would care. We are not the intended audience.

by Jeff on Mar 31, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Good point Jeff, wether we watch TUF or not they already know we’re buying the PPV, it’s not really geared toward us.

I can’t wait

It’s going to be great !

by Ian Dean on Mar 31, 2009 11:27 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Im kinda looking forward to it. Honestly, I would be totally stoked if Bisping somehow came out and fucked Henderson up. Doubtful, but it would be rad. lol

by enzo-enormous on Mar 31, 2009 11:29 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The last truly impressive performance from Henderson was going the distance with Rampage. Since then I have not seen anything that from him that tells me Bisping doesn’t have a chance of beating him. I have said that same about Franklin when people joke about Bisping having no chance against him. If it was the Franklin who fought The Crow (I will not try and spell his name) or Tanner, I would agree, but when is that last time you have seen that Franklin, he wasn’t there against Lutter or Hamill.I have not seen a performance of late for Bisping to be worried about.

by Ade on Apr 1, 2009 6:00 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

can’t wait for the new season.. i hope the uk kicks ass cuz the yanks will bitch so much it will be worth a good chuckle.. even though bisbing whined like a baby when he was on the show he did turn out to be quite a fighter…(tho i thought he lost to matt hamill when they gave it to him) hendo vs bisbing should be a good fight, dan is gettin on the older side..so stoked for this..hope the show keeps to the training and fighting and leaves all the stooooopid childish antics to a min….it sucks when you are embarrassed to be a mma fan when the show goes reality frat house..

Nice comeback.

by attakdog on Mar 31, 2009 2:29 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

PS Sarah, i wasn’t meant to be moany, its just sooo many people call him Bisbing instead of Bisping and it winds me up.

by Nick J on Mar 31, 2009 3:15 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

see, even with it printed in front of me.. i realize i have always called him that, so i stand corrected..oh!! and i have to laugh about the sub titles when the uk fighters talk..it’s not THAT hard to understand…geez

by sarah on Mar 31, 2009 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I’m looking foward to the battle of coaches more than the UK vs USA thing.I’m not from either nationalty so, I’m just hoping to see soome good maybe even great fights.I don’t reconize any of thesee fighters.
anyone know anything about them?
BTW I’ll be going for theCount Michael Bisping

by the Levi on Mar 31, 2009 12:20 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bisping you suck and British MMA is still stuck back in 2000! Take your ish back to Cage Rage punk!!

by xxBAxx816 on Mar 31, 2009 12:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

The same Cage Rage that arguably the best p4p fighter fought in?

by UKmmaBOY on Mar 31, 2009 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Fought in and was last taken to a decision in too!

by Nick J on Mar 31, 2009 1:41 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

He was hardly carrying that mantle when he fought in cage rage was he???
Cage Rage sucked big time, I went to a couple of their shows, there’s no wonder they went bust, so unprofessional. Those two bald blokes presenting were shocking. I didn’t know if I was watching an MMA show or the finals of a Telly Savalas lookalike competition!

by attakdog on Mar 31, 2009 2:48 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

The same Cage Rage that Ken Shamrock fought in. LMAO!

by xxBAxx816 on Mar 31, 2009 4:24 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

What about Page? Last time I checked he is training in the UK and Cage Rage is decent enough.

by Jeff on Mar 31, 2009 2:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

bisping is greater then ali and frazier. He will be remembered a hero

by wildcard on Mar 31, 2009 12:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Seriuosly, I could care less about where a guy is from. Climb in the cage and get it on!

TRUTH.

Gj Bisping on trying to put a stop to the childish antics and the blatant stupidity in every inevitable drunk episode of TUF.

by O damn he got caught on Mar 31, 2009 12:55 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I’m getting tired of the lighter guys being featured on TUF, I think it’s time to do a season for MW and HW imo.

by O damn he got caught on Mar 31, 2009 12:58 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed, but GENUINE heavyweights, not guys who weigh in at 210 and are clearly going to cut to LHW as soon as they win.

by attakdog on Mar 31, 2009 2:32 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

O damn he go caught, I agree completely there are alot of potential HW AND MW fighters out there.

by JayZ on Mar 31, 2009 1:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

There is no question that there needs to be more HW’s. By far the worst division in UFC and MMA in general.

by enzo-enormous on Mar 31, 2009 1:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

i dont understand why this guy is pushed besides the marketing aspect. he has beaten nothing but gatekeepers and scrubs. if they wanted to push a uk star, push paul kelly, paul taylor, dan hardy or terry etim. at least those guys have some talent. this guy is suppose to be a stand up fighter and hasnt ko’d anyone. his ground game sucks at best and his stand up is average. i hope henderson demolishes him.

by bobby o'shea on Mar 31, 2009 2:31 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Does the name Anna Kournikova mean anything to you? It is the look, the personality, the fact that he was the first British fighter to break-in in the US, etc. His fighting style and who has beaten have little to do with his “star power”.

by Jeff on Mar 31, 2009 2:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

You are sooooooooo right!!!! Apart from saying Taylor, Kelly et all have talent coz they dont!

by attakdog on Mar 31, 2009 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No way..that talantless punk got lucky again, HE IS THE WORST FIGHTER IN MMA…Henderson was obviously injured and couldnt fight to his potential, if the henderson that was fighting in pride turned up bisping would have been KTFO.

Bisping beat henderson on luck alone and a friend told me that Dana told Dan to throw the fight so it aint even legit anyway.

……….Oh sorry, just found out that they dont fight for a couple of months, still I can allways cut and paste this in the results thread…

All the ridiculous hate towards Bisping makes me LMAO

by Confused on Mar 31, 2009 10:24 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Isn’t Bisping going on like year 5 of his engagement to the poor bird? Has she never heard “Single Ladies”? In her heart-of-hearts does she recognize that Bisping was clearly outclassed by Matt Hammill and she can’t commit to marry him because of it? Do British fighters wear mouth guards, or have they given up on their teeth?
