the name of the event is lesnar vs mir 2??? what a shame
by JoW on Mar 29, 2009 2:07 PM EDT reply actions
who cares what the ‘event name’ is??
this card is already looking pretty stacked~
with at least two title fights and hendo/bisping~ i cant complain..
bonner/coleman to potentially kick-off the main card~and still an empty slot.
i still think that if andy silva wins with no damage taken?
we could possibly see andy defend against maia..
the ufc is already saying that maia will probably get a title shot in aug’09.
im thinking~if they can?~ the ufc will have 3 titles fights on 100..
say word.

1) Heavyweight Championship bout: Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Interim Champion Frank Mir
2) Welterweight Championship bout: Georges St-Pierre vs. Thiago Alves
3) Middleweight bout: Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping
4) Middleweight bout: Alan Belcher vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
5) Light Heavyweight bout: Stephan Bonnar vs. Mark Coleman
6) Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch vs. Paulo Thiago
7) Light Heavyweight bout: Jon Jones vs. Jake O’Brien
8) Middleweight bout: C.B. Dollaway vs. Tom Lawlor
9) Welterweight bout: Dong Hyun Kim vs. Jonathan Goulet
10) Lightweight bout: Matt Grice vs. Shannon Gugerty
No empty slots, stinky. In fact, fights #6 and 7 are, IMO, main card-worthy but have been relegated to the undercard due to the depth of this event. They obviously want Old Man Coleman on the main card because of the “Past, Present and Future of the UFC” theme.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions
No, Belcher WAS rumored to be fighting Sakara at UFC 99, but that bout was scrapped in favor of the Akiyama fight listed above. Unless something new has been announced in the last few days that I am unaware of.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions
it doesnt matter when belcher is fighting~
he is not going to be on the main card!
there is still 1 slot left on the main card..
and just cause they have 10 fights~ does not mean the card is done..
there is 12 fights on ufc/97
by stinky~fingers on Mar 29, 2009 7:06 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m willing to bet that Belcher/Akiyama will be on the main card. Time will tell.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 7:08 PM EDT up reply actions
I don’t think they brought Akiyama to the UFC to fight on the undercard.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions
alright let dooo it up~
what do u want to bet?

stink. Akiyama will be on the main card!
FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENT***
UFC 101: Brandon Vera vs. Matt Hammil
by john on Mar 29, 2009 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions
That’s an interesting fight, john. I like Vera by TKO. Hammil’s only chance is to lay on him.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions
I agree Jeremy. I still dont think Hammil knows how to deal with kicks. If Hammil thought Franklin kicked hard, he wont like whats coming to him. I also think that Vera is a good enough wrestler to make it difficult for hammil to get the takedown!
by john on Mar 29, 2009 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m thinking that since Belcher made main card status his last two fights, and ended up winning those, esp against Kang, that he will be on main card status again, esp with Akiyama’s debut.
Interesting fight there john. Seems like a close fight, but if the Vera that beat that can at 96 comes out, then I think he will light up Hamill with some kicks. But if the shitty Vera comes, then Hamill will be able to bull his way through and TKO him. Interesting fight though..
by Synyster on Mar 29, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Strong work john. I like that fight alot. Vera by tko, but this is no slam dunk for Vera though.

by john on Mar 30, 2009 8:15 AM EDT up reply actions
that would be the icing on the cake. This is a damn good card, but not the best ever like it should be. 94 is still better, but add Silva and it takes it for sure.
by Josh H. on Mar 29, 2009 7:38 PM EDT up reply actions
Obviously, these things are a matter of opinion, but I don’t know how anyone could think UFC 94 is a better card than this. The GSP/Alves fight is a much more competitive matchup than GSP/Penn, and then there is the HW title on the line as well…
And stinky, you’ve been blowing the “three titles on the line at UFC 100” horn for a while now… it’s not going to happen. Time constraints won’t allow it and the result would be that the cards surrounding UFC 100 wouldn’t have titles on the line. As for Anderson defending his belt against Maia, if that is happening, the rumor is that it will go down at UFC 102.
Class dismissed.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, but the hype was phenomenal. It’s easy to say that the fight sucked now that it’s over with. Plus, this heavyweight title fight is okay, but not great. I never get excited to see Frank Mir fight. 94 was absolutely stacked. Each fight could go toe to toe with the fights announced for 100. Both have or had Bonnar,Fitch,Jon Jones and GSP. Machida/Silva is better than Lesnar/Mir and Guida/Diaz is as good if not better than the Lesnar fight. 100 is stacked with talent, but it’s also stacked with some dudes that have no business on what is supposed to be the greatest card of all time: Coleman, O’Brien (yes,I know he was at 94 too), Dollaway,Paulo Thiago,Lawlor,Goulet,Grice,Gugerty. Every fight on this card should be headliner worthy. You’re right, this is a matter of opinion of course, I guess I’m just bitter about the way this card’s panning out. I’m only able to attend 2 events per year, 94 and I’ll be at 100, the cards stacked, don’t get me wrong, but the UFC puts out stacked cards all the time: 84,91,92,94 just to name a few recent superstacked cards. I was expecting something different for 100, not just another stacked card, but something that hasn’t been done before: first female fight, Faber/Torres, all belts on the line, Fedor, 15 fights, something.

I’m not trying to be offensive, but you might want to consider changing your screen name. People might associate you with that punkass coward Jeremy Jackson who got kicked off of TUF for sneaking off. That dude got busted for 2 counts of forcible rape and kidnapping. Rapists are on the same level as child molesters. Again, not trying to be offensive, just a thought
by Josh H. on Mar 29, 2009 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions
Wow Josh, you sound like someone with a real strong sense of morality. Your parents must give you big hugs before they send you off to school.
Not trying to be offensive, but I don’t give a shit what you think of my screen name. I like it just fine, and if you associate it with some criminal, that’s your problem.
As for our discussion on UFC 100, how do you know how big the hype will be? The card isn’t for months. And what does the level of hype have to do with anything? If you like hype so much you should watch wrasslin’ instead. Just a thought. As for Diaz/Guida being as good or better than Lesnar/Mir 2, well, I don’t know how to react to that except to shake my head and sigh.
by Jeremyjackson on Mar 29, 2009 11:15 PM EDT up reply actions
97 is the card I’ve been most excited to see in a while. Every fight on that card I’d really be interested in. I know there are some cards where every fight shows and you’re like “yeah thats a solid fight. I’ll watch it”. For me with 97, I’m like, “we BETTER get to see every fight or I’ma be pissed” lol.
I don’t really care what else happens on the 100 card. I like the way it is, its a stacked card, with some “filler” fights. But I like it fine.
Of course, all a matter of opinion.
BTW, I watched my dvd of UFC 76, and during the Fitch/Sanchez fight, Goldberg said that Joe Silva offered Sanchez Sakurai and Penn, and Diego accepted, but niether fight was set up, and led to Jon FItch. I didn’t know that. THat woulda been a super stacked card:
Chuck/Jardine
Forrest/Shogun
Diego/Penn
Machida
Tyson
That would have been awesome.
by Synyster on Mar 30, 2009 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions
Josh Haynes, UFC 94 wasn’t that good of a card. I think the hype got a little over your head, overall the card pretty much s*cked.. UFC 91 was a pretty weak card too, only big name fights 91 and 94 had were the main events
by RoB on Mar 30, 2009 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions
I was pretty satisfied with 91. Not a whole lot of star power, but some pretty solid fighters and good fights. I def wouldn’t call 91 weak. 93 was pretty weak to me. as was 94. so far, I’d say 96 and 95 were the best this year
by Synyster on Mar 30, 2009 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions
I thought 91 had good fights too, but i’m talking about starpower and the names that were on the card..

who cares what order the fights are in? youll still get to see both of them
by brendan on Mar 29, 2009 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s true that in terms of talent and importance, the GSP/Alves fight should be the #1 main event. After all, it is a fight featuring the #1 and #2 welterweight fighters in the world.
But the heavyweight division is considered more marquee to the casual fan, therefore the HW title will get top billing.

Bisping destroying Henderson is worth the ticket prices alone.
by Tony on Mar 29, 2009 4:43 PM EDT reply actions
yeah the count is going to hammered they should change bispings name to nails
by ruan-fiy on Mar 29, 2009 5:30 PM EDT up reply actions
tony your getting a little ahead of yourself. if bisbing wins it will be by the same lame fight as leben. but the thing is the one time leben shot in he got the takedown. and leben and henderson arent even close in the wrestling department. hendo will bully the shit out of him
by Jared on Mar 29, 2009 7:59 PM EDT up reply actions
Dont get to lonely tony..lol, I gree with you allthough I dont see bisping destroying Hendo, more like a comfortable decision win.
I wouldn’t be to upset if he lost either, it is hendo afterall.
Trust me if bisping can put in a good performance either way his stock will rise, as it stands bisping could beat the top ten in every division on the same night and some people would still think he has no place in the UFC.
Ive still to see any fighter take bisping down and keep him there, Rashad couldnt do it and while I think Hendo will get some take downs, he like everyone else bisping has fought wont be able to do anything to him on the ground before he gets back up.
this fight has decision written all over it.

I agree Jared the lesnar/mir fight I almost could care less about, if it was me it would barely make it to the main event LOL. I almost get goose bumps thinking about the gsp/alves fight….fireworks for sure. I’m was more excited about that fight than the penn fight, I think gsp is going to run into his equal and it should be one hell of a fight, it will be interesting to see who the better man is. I’m much more excited about this fight than any fight gsp has ever had, because I think this is going to be gsp’s toughes fight even if he brings his A game. Alves is the perfect guy to give gsp problems his style, big knees and his huge size, I just hope it goes to atleast four rounds and there’s no flash ko so we can see lots of action, I could see it being fight of the night if it make it to a decision.
by nathan on Mar 29, 2009 5:08 PM EDT reply actions
It’s going to be awsome to see Lesnars improvements. Trust me the guy trains as hard as GSP. But your right the Alves & GSP fight should be the main event. This is the tougest fighter GSP has faced to date and should be a exciting battle. I can’t see Mir getting lucky for a second time, Lesnar will much more prepared for any subs? I’m going with Henderson over Bisping his cardio is much better than when he first entered the 185 division and as long as keeps the pressure on Bisping he should have no problem controling the fight. This event is going to be awsome I might even go if I don’t get tickets the UFC’s first expo should be fun and I’m sure we can find a Bar or lounge packed with UFC fans not to mention Vegas is always a good time….until you get back home and go through your bank statement.
by Beaver on Mar 30, 2009 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions
I agree with your assesment.of the bisbing hendo fight,I give advantage striking to bisping but card to hendo. Bisping takedown defense is rotten, I see dan tossing him all around and winnin ud. While I think alves is a monster I don’t believe he’s a better fighter than fitch. We’ll all find that out when gsp finishes him in 3, and fitch took a serious beating for all 5 rounds. Last but not least jiu jitsu is not luck that is skill. Catchin someone in ankle lock isn’t luck, its capitalizing on mistakes made by your opponent. And lesnar is to green still he will make another mistake.

Alves gsp equal ok I’ve heard it all now. While alves is a dangerous fighter butfar from an equal my friend. Gsp way better wrestler and will finish in 3rd bround.

tony your getting a little ahead of yourself. if bisbing wins it will be by the same lame fight as leben = what way was that? making his face like a beetroot and putting him in hospital?
by Tony on Mar 30, 2009 12:23 AM EDT reply actions
id say he meant back pedalling the whole time and using leben aggressive against him. plus admitting that his plan was to win by UD. like or hate that style of fight.. it wont work against Hendo, even the “ufc” Hendo will smother Bisping and beat him down soundly.
by josh on Mar 30, 2009 6:11 AM EDT up reply actions
If hendo wins it will also be by decision…
Nobody is getting “beat down” in this fight.
It will be Bisping by scoring cleaner strikes for three rounds or Hendo by controlling bisping on the ground.
Henderson hasn’t done anything in a while to show hes going to be knocking people out.
