MMA quick pic: And the Oscar goes to...Remy Bonjasky?

Props: Nightmare of Battle
Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem pokes fun at K-1 World Grand Prix 2008 Champion Remy Bonjasky during a press conference for tonight's K-1 World Grand Prix 2009 from the Yokohama Arena in Yokohama, Japan. Bonjasky, who won the 2008 GP after some illegal strikes from DQ'd opponent Badr Hari, has been accused by Overeem of acting his way into the victory by overselling his injuries during the bout.
We'll see who has the last laugh when the two collide in the main event later tonight on HDNet starting at 4:00 a.m. ET.

Ok someone needs to KO Overeem already, I’ll be rooting for Remy here, but damn, he’s still giving up a good amount of size. Overeem needs to pick on someone his own size, like Kongo in the UFC. Would love to see Kongo vs Overeem

sounds good, but where ever Overeem and Congo are, Yvel should also be in the mix – them 3 could make some sick fights

who knows anyting about Tyrone Spong? His record is impressive but he hasn’t fought top competition. Ghokan has fought the top competition, but hasn’t always won.
I like Manhoeff to win the tourny. And I’m still putting together a couple of cheap parlays.
To be honest with you guys, I have straight up fallen in love with K-1 since HDnet started airing!!!!!!

Remy Bonjasky is still pretty big at 6’4 and around 235 lbs so it shouldn’t be that big a deal.. he’ll have the speed and kicking advantage to take the big boy down!

overeem by TKO. he has looked very impressive in his last couple of fights and this one should be even better.

Overeem is bigger than Kongo by about 15lbs. Not a whole lot but it just gives a measure of the size he’s inflated too. Guy’s a monster.

Hari was putting a beating on this fool! shame he lost to Overeem, but thats nothin’ to be down about

OVEREEM IS EXTREMELY OVERATED. HE CANT FIGHT IN UFC. HE WILL GET SUSPENDED FOR STEROIDS. HE 99.9999999% USES THEM AND WON’t BE ALLOWED IN UFC. HIS BIGGEST ASSET IS HIS STRENGTH.
by anonymous, dont want overreem to kill me! on Mar 27, 2009 12:06 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
lol overrated by who? i havent seen him on too many pound for pound lists lately, if anything, he is underrated and would probably run through all but the top 3 in the UFC HW division, and maybe them as well…
by brendan on Mar 27, 2009 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
its a shame he didnt but i guarentee, Crocop would kill any fighter in a straight up fight to the death (a street fight)

why is it hes on steroids again? because he was 205 and now hes like 245-250? lets see forrest griffin is 6’3" and 240ish when not cutting weight, overeem is 6’5" 245 yeh that seems about right. he was always running out of gas at 205, did you ever wonder why? also until he gets busted quit making your fanboy forum accusations.
by stayfitty on Mar 27, 2009 1:40 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Accusing Overeem of steroids is not a fanboy forum accusation. It’s clear as day that this guy is on steroids. He weighed in at 224 pounds against Buentello and less than a year later, he’s weighing in at 250+, with puffy looking muscles and a bloated face. Even Remy commented on it during the conference.
by Jono on Mar 27, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
god forbid someone puts on 20-30 pounds of muscle over a half DECADE period of time…
by brendan on Mar 27, 2009 7:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
People who argue on Overeem’s behalf constantly use misinformation. He fought Buentello on November of 2007 and weighed in at 224. Less than a year later, he gains 20-30 pounds of PURE muscle. Now if that doesn’t sound alarms in your head and make you very skeptical then you need to get your head out of your ass.
by Jono on Mar 28, 2009 8:50 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
brenden — Not half a decade. Try half a year.
by MMACrossifre on Mar 28, 2009 9:28 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yes, it’s just silly to say that he hasn’t used steroids. putting on weight and putting on muscles are two different things, it’s not like Forrest is cutting 30 pounds of muscles to get down to 205
by RoB on Mar 28, 2009 7:55 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Like 255 these days and ripped to pieces too. He has definitely put on considerable mass.
by RobH86 on Mar 27, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
LOL at you comparing overeem body structure with someone like Forrest
by lokie on Mar 27, 2009 2:17 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
There’s no question that Overeem is a juice monkey… He is SO much more muscular than he used to be, he looks like frickin Bobby Lashley! The Forrest comparison is pretty hilarious…
I’m sure that’s why he fights over in Japan, to avoid the roid testing. He HAS been on a tear lately, but I’d like to see him off the juice.
It’s BS that he is talking trash about Bonjasky’s win. Hari tried to stomp a downed opponent’s face for god sakes! Whether he got injured from it or not, Hari was still going to get DQ’ed! This’ll be a good fight.

I’m not going to watch it live, I’m going to wake up at 7am to fastforward through the dead time between fights. I do the same with other events, it’s much more enjoyable that way.

same with me, everytime! I always wake up mad ealy in anticipation too. So by the time my sleepy wife wakes up, its pretty much over.

not a good nite for you my friend.

Anyone who saw last year’s K-1 World Grand Prix would have to admit that Bonjasky wasn’t as “injured” as he appeared after those illegal strikees from Badr Hari. Take a closer look at them, just how many of them landed? None. Remy acted his way out of a fight he was arguably winning. It was worse than Varner quitting the Cerrone fight, a fight he was easily winning. I hope Overeem KO’s Bonjasky. I also hope Le Banner wins his fight and hopefully goes on to [finally] win the World Grand Prix.
by Belisarius on Mar 27, 2009 7:01 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Belisarius — Your math is intriguing. Fighter winning decides to pretend to be injured to… win? And you know this because you have magical powers of mind reading.

When is Overeem going to stop growing in size???
Overeem by KO in R1… easily.

manhoef got ktfo ! and maeda ended up winning the tourney im so shocked. main event time!
by Jared on Mar 28, 2009 7:38 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Overeem by KO. Theres noway Remy will be able to take his punch power. Overeem knocked Badr out with shots that didnt even land fully. If Overeem lands a couple its lights out.
Also, for the record I think Alistair would be a great addition to UFC. Would make it even more interesting because I think there would be some more good fights. Break him in with Herring, and imagine Overeem v Congo, or vs Dos Santos, or vs Pat Berry, before moving up to the big boys of the division. Any of those fights would be fun to watch.
