I have seen him fight, he looks good, but I think he would get owned by several people in the UFC.

No way i would put him top 3 easily maybe only penn and ken flo above him i would kill to see him fight Roger Huerta

He’s way better than Kenflo on the feet. Better and cleaner combos as well as footwork. Also great defensive grappling, scrambles and KO power which let’s face it kenny doesn’t have. The only guys i see him have trouble with are Penn and sherk in the UFC.

Eddie looked small to me last time i saw him, i know that this guy is overrated by just looking at him and not even knowing how he fights.. he would get beat by several guys in the UFC for sure!

Shinya Aoki would get knocked out and lose in the UFC too..

i will respectfully disagree with you Rob.IMO if Aoki or Alvarez even Hansen came to UFC they WOULD be the champion.
All 3 would wipe the canvas with Penn,Florian,Sherk,Guida and any other “TOP” LW’s in the UFC.

I respect your post.. but first off there’s no testing in japan cause of the idiotic japs, secondly they look good cause they’re swinging wild all the time.. Alvarez, Aoki, Hansen would get beat in the UFC for sure! but we don’t know it until we see it, but i can promise you from what i see that that is how it is!
by RoB on Mar 22, 2009 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions
It’s all about putting on a good show in japan and that is why ALL of the fighters look better then they really are.. you want some evidence of that? just look at the Pride guys that came over to the UFC, they lacked size and other things that they didn’t have to have to be succesful in Japan..

Rob – i gotta disagree with a couple of your statements. Alvarez has won plenty of times here in the states with testing positive. Also Aoki a roider? Come on man. Using the Pride v UFC doesn’t work because that doesn’t explain Rampage, silva, Nog or even gomi sucking while still being in japan. Also you make it seem that fighters in the UFC don’t swing wild all the time either-very few really technical strikes in MMA period. Also since when does the ufc not pressure/emphasize fighters to have exciting/good shows? Does this rule apply to ufc too then? But dropping all these irrelevancies, all we can do is look at fighter skillsets and IMO only guys with super tight top games or better submission grapplers can beat these guys without getting subbed or having their wrestling negated i.e sherk, maybe tyson or penn. Besides these three no one else at LW has the necessary skills to beat win. Then again like you said we’ll never know. Sorry for the long rant.

HOld up Rob…Im not going to sit back and let you bash the Pride of Philadelphia…THis kid is a stud! TOo small? No way, he has even fought at ww in the past.
I think Alavres would instantly shoot to the top 5 of the UFC LW division. he is fully capable of beating top uFC fighters like:
florian
Diego
Sherk (I know for a fact that he would beat Sherk!)
The only fighter I am not sure that he can beat is BJ Penn. Then again, I still dont think anyone can beat bj at 155 lbs.
I think Alvares vs. Diego would easily be a fight of the year candidate!

I watched his fights last night and sure they were great fights, but i wanna know if it’s because it was such great matchups stylistically that did it or if he’s actually gonna be that LW that takes over.. a big factor when it really comes to it is also the mental part which is often overlooked is he mentally strong to break out in a crowded division and handle all the pressure from media that comes along being in the UFC right now, that is something i would want to see after hearing/seeing these guys that are fighting in Japan.

Hahaha, everyone thinks because UFC has all the promotions they have the best fighters! Ed could be there, in fact turned em’ down! Very few people make the big money in UFC, they charge their fighters for promotions n’ all. So talent is going elsewhere, at the end of the day it’s about money. BJ Penn is the only one who MIGHT give Ed a run!! People who think UFC is royalty in MMA usually don’t really know the sport. In my worthless opinion!

get a clue dude! do you know who Hellboy is? If you dont, Hellboy is easily a top 10 lw worldwide, not just the UFC LW division (which is the most incomplete division in the UFC)….If you have been living under a rock, Hellboy vs. Alvares was the fight of the YEAR…hands DOWN!!! Go watch that fight and then come back on here and tell me how you figure that Eddie is over rated!
Do you know who Tatsuya Kawajiri is? some people think he is pretty good as well…GO watch Alvarez and kawajiri and then come tell me how over rated Eddie is!
IMO, Alvarez and Alves were hands down, break through fighters of the year in 2008…these 2 will be top fighters for years to come!
I would love to see Eddie come to the UFC, but not yet! There are still great fights awaiting him in Japan. Before he comes to the UFC I would like to see him fight:
Takanori Gomi
Aoki (rematch)
JZ
Mach Sakurai
I also wouldnt mind seeing Alvarez vs. Diaz, but Nick has bulked up and I have a feeling that we will never see him at lightweight again!
Dont mean to be pissy, but there is nothing more that I hate then for uninformed fans to bash a fighters imply because he doesnt fight in the UFC. There is a whole Giant world of mma outside of the UFC, and there are plenty of top fighters worldwide that dont fight in the UFC. YOu need to broaden your mma horizons buddy!

I think he has a pretty good future, but I think he needs to improve his sub-defense. His almost got subbed from Hansen, but got subbed by Aoki.

I dont know how anyone could call Alverez over rated. He is a tough guy that brings it everytime he fights. I would put him against anyone in the UFC in his weight class. Alverez/Aoki would do some serious damage in the UFC.

thats exactly what i said Alvarez,Aoki even Hansen would be the best/worst thing for the LW div in UFC.(best being for the fans, worst being for the fighters)

How can these casual MMA fans talk shit about Eddie and judge him just by this video. Eddie is the real deal. You casual fans should go to mma-core.com and look at his past fights, especially the DREAM LIGHTWEIGHT GRAND PRIX fights. SMFH
by mando on Mar 23, 2009 4:05 AM EDT reply actions
totally agree! NOthing I hate more then uneducated mma fans, that bash a guy just cause he doesnt fight in the UFC.
Eddie is easily a top 5 lW, and would be come an instant contender if he were to join the UFC
