'March Badness' weigh-in results

The mix of boxers and mixed martial artists set to compete at "March Badness" — a hybrid event that will feature both sports on the same card courtesy of former boxing champion and promoter Roy Jones Jr. — today tipped the scales for the official weigh in.
The pay-per-view (PPV) event will take place at the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla., on March 21.
Former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley will co-headline the MMA portion of the show opposite Jason Guida. It will mark just the second fight ever of his career. Guida, on the other hand, has more than 30 to his credit. He, however, took the heavyweight match up on super short notice after Ken Shamrock was forced out of the bout because of a positive test for steroids.
Another heavyweight showdown is also featured in the main event, pitting UFC veteran Jeff Monson against IFL standout Roy Nelson. Din Thomas, as well as Matt Hughes' Kryptonite, Dennis Hallman, will also be in action.
Check out the "March Badness" MMA weigh in results:
265 lbs.: Bobby Lashley (251.5) vs. Jason Guida (232)
265 lbs.: Roy Nelson (262) vs. Jeff Monson (245.75)
145 lbs.: Din Thomas (144.75) vs. Gabe Lemley (144.75)
170 lbs.: Dennis Hallman (169) vs. Danny Ruiz (170)
170 lbs.: James Freeman (171.25) vs. John Mowry (176.75)
*Note fighters are allowed to weigh one-pound over the division limit in non-title fights
Jones Jr. also hit the mark for his 12-round NABO light heavyweight championship showdown against Omar Sheika, coming in at 173.25 pounds. Sheika registered 175 pounds on the scale.
A previously announced light heavyweight tilt between the man who put an end to the Kimbo Slice hype train last October with a 14-second technical knockout, Seth Petruzelli, against ex-WEC 205 pound champion Doug "The Rhino" Marshall, was scrapped because of an injury to "The Silverback."
"March Badness" will be available to watch on PPV at 9 p.m. ET tomorrow night (March 21) for $29.95. MMAmania.com will pass along the event results as soon as possible for those who miss it.

Hell yeah, that’s the kind of chiselled mass you get when you know how to train hard.
Guida can grate cheese on those abs.

This fight is tonight? I thought it was still a month away! I am not paying $30 to see a Guida fight, but I will make sure I get to see Lasley, crush this idiot! Very surprised that lashly didnt come in at 265 lbs….I have a feeling he is going to be quick as a cat…prolly much faster than the speedy Lesnar!

i probably wouldve bought it if the petruzelli and marshall fight was still on cuz that has fireworks written all over. but other than that nothing worth 30 bucks

Lashly looks exhausted guys, Guida the clown is about to pull off the upset

His inexperience here is really showing; he didn’t know when to give up on the TD attempt and go back to striking, burnt off too much energy in the 1st rd, but to Guida’s credit, he defended very well, EXCEPT for when his arm got caught in the rope, horrible reffing, let Lashly waste a lot of energy there
by O damn he got caught on Mar 21, 2009 9:59 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah, anyone else ends up submitting him though. I give guida credit for taking the fight on short notice! I wasn’t impressed with lashly at all! When is the Monson fight?
by kevin on Mar 21, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Monson vs Roy, starting now, I don’t know Kev, while I wasn’t necessarily impressed with Lashly , I don’t fault him for that; that was inexperience. He didn’t know when to give up the TD and strike, he spent a lot of energy trying to get that fight to the ground. I think he’s got the ability to go far, and a fight like that should show him that he has a lot to work on. It can only benefit him; and he’s doing the right things here. He’s not jumping straight into the deep end like Brock, he’s starting at the bottom and working his way up; I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do with some improvements.

yeah, it shows he can last in a fight, thats for sure. It’s definitely a lot of tape he can learn from, you got that right! I don’t see him even doing anything close to Lesner, but time will tell!

lashley is pretty small to be compared to brock lesnar in size..
by randy murders on Mar 20, 2009 11:39 PM EDT up reply actions
He’s like Carwin – walks around 275 but fight weight is near 260. I hope he caves in Caveman II’s face.
by NameNotRequired on Mar 21, 2009 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions
i really hope lashley loses, im tired of his hype wagon just because of what brock did converting from the WWE with that size, his last fight he was nowhere near impressive technically, brock would walk right through this guy
by randy murders on Mar 21, 2009 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions
this fight is tonight? WOW! Surprise dhe didnt weigh in at the max…265 lbs. This guys is even faster than Lesnar…Its going to get really ugly tonight for gummie bear Guida!
by john on Mar 21, 2009 11:33 AM EDT up reply actions
Maybe even smaller than Carwin. No doubt that he was pumped up on something back in the WWE. He’s shrinking now. Lesnar was pretty much the same size in college as he is now.
by RobH86 on Mar 21, 2009 1:22 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah the size and speed of lashley will not compare
by randy murders on Mar 21, 2009 1:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Lol all you Lesnar fans dont even know the real details about our fighter…tisk, tisk, tisk.
Lesnar’s been lowering his walk around weight for some time now also. It makes it easier to reach the 265 limit. He also said in an interview that he wants to come in under 265 for the speed advantage he will gain.
It’s hilarious to see you Lesnar fans posting all these urban legends about the guy just to make him seem bigger and better than he actually is. Why do people get so geared up over a guy just because he’s big & strong?
I mean I understand the spectacle of it but a bigger stronger guy laying on top of a smaller weaker guy and winning because of it isnt that impressive to me. A bigger stronger guy landing a punch on a smaller weaker guy and dropping him is expected isnt it? I mean isnt that exactly what should happen? Whats so exciting about that? It’s like dropping something off the roof of a building and getting excited over the fact that gravity pulled it to the ground.

When the boogeyman goes to sleep at night he checks under his bed for Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar can slam a revolving door. When Bruce Banner gets mad he turns into the Hulk; When he Hulk gets mad he turns into Brock Lesnar.

the grass is all ways greener on the other side, unless of course brock lesnar is on that side, in which case, the grass is soaked in blood

Machine Lesnar is the best wrestler in the HW division, combined with his, size, speed, strength and training he is already a force and a top five HW! And he’s just getting started. His size just makes him a freak. Think about what you are saying Barnett makes a living in MMA doing exactly what your trying to cut Brock down with. LOL you don’t even know the real details on Brock and for that matter MMA tisk tisk tisk.
by Beaver on Mar 22, 2009 3:23 AM EDT up reply actions
go to you tube and search Brock Lesnar all access training, his work outs are crazy, for a big man his endurance is awsome.
by Beaver on Mar 22, 2009 3:25 AM EDT up reply actions
Beaver, Beaver, Beaver…I’m very familiar with Brock Lesnar’s attributes, training regimen and skill set (ex: jogging in timberland boots with half a telephone pole slung over his shoulder or his Sherk-like training in Minnesota). Off the top of my head I probably know just as much or more about him than you or any other fan does. I’ll grudgingly admit I was a Brock fan since he was in Ohio Valley Wrestling (WWE’s talent development camp). Ex: While most fans were dreaming about a match between him & Batista they thought they’d never get, I already knew about their face-off back in OVW. Thats embarrassing to admit but I’ll get over it LOL.
Anyways, I’m not a fan of Brock’s MMA career because of the way the UFC’s handled it. And what Brock’s done in the cage is not as impressive to me as it is to most of you lemmings that buy into the Dana White/Joe Rogan hype machine without thinking 1st for yourselves. I’m a student of the MMA game and have 1st hand experience to draw from as well. I don’t just go around spouting off without 1st getting my facts straight and only then will I give my personal opinion. I’m the type of fan that ravenously searches and devours any tidbit of info I can find on something that I truly like. After thousands of posts your the very 1st person to question my MMA knowledge and even though I know its foolish of you to do so, I’m kinda offended LOL. I’ve been posting here since it was UFC Mania and followed the whole debacle where the UFC contacted Mania and pushed to have the site altered. Before my priorities changed I used to post MMA info and links just like John does now (just not as frequent). I’ve even been one of the guys to send info to Mania they weren’t up on yet and they in turn started a whole new thread based solely on the update and link to the info I made them aware of and Mania can attest to it.
To insult my MMA knowledge is a rookie move that shows me you don’t have the patience to read an entire thread and expand your knowledge by taking in other perspectives that differ from yours. Which leads me to believe that you’ve never read enough of my posts to accurately assess my MMA knowledge. Which leads me to believe you also probably don’t have the patience to do proper research on MMA and your favorite fighters as a whole. Which means you lack the necessary insight to accurately judge my “MMA knowledge”. Which means your point is well…pointless.

Nothing on the hyper/hectic UFC schedule this weekend.

The Lashley/Guida fight may have been the most boring fight I have seen.
Summary
1st Round: Lashley leaned on Guida in the clinch landed some OK punches. Nothing much as far as action.
2nd Round: Lashley took him down and laid on him the entire time. No real damage.
3rd Round: Lashley took him down. Guida almost caught him in a guillotine. Lashley gets out and the fight stayed on the ground.
Lashley by Unanimous Decision 30-27.
by halljam2 on Mar 21, 2009 10:08 PM EDT reply actions
Well, Lashley clearly doesn’t belong anywhere near the UFC. No striking game, no conditioning, no ground and pound, not even an impressive display of wrestling.
He didn’t even come close to finishing a 17-19 pudgy 5’10" light heavyweight – in fact, if Guida had been halfway competent, Lashley would probably have gone to sleep or tapped to an arm bar.

lashley has potential, but he needs a lot of work. mostly mental. he just seems way too relaxed, no agression, no sense of urgency. weird especially how guida was so in his face at the press conference and weigh in. he looks timid out there to me. i say throw him into the ufc preliminary unaired boutsto let him get comfortable.
