UFCs Dana White accepts Patriot Award for humanitarian efforts to raise money for injured soldiers

UFC President Dana White was honored with the Armed Forces Foundation Patriot Award last night at the 5th Annual Armed Forces Foundation Congressional Gala at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., for his support of United States troops.
He was among a group of about 200 in attendance, including Members of Congress, members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and wounded troops from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, among others, according to Fighters Only magazine.
The Patriot Award is given to people whose generous contributions to the military and their families go above and beyond the call of duty.
White and Co. raised more than $4 million in donations for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund through UFC Fight Night 16: "Fight for the Troops," which emanated from the Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C., on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
"Fight for the Troops" paid tribute to the United States servicemen and women serving in the armed forces. Samuel L. Jackson, Jack Black, Charlie Sheen and other notable celebrities shot promos that aired on the Spike TV broadcast, urging viewers to call in and donate money to support the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.
In addition, several heart-wrenching vignettes of injured and broken soldiers returning from battle were inserted between to fights to demonstrate the need for a treatment center. In fact, donations will be used to create a state-of-the-art facility in Bethesda, Md., for wounded soldiers who suffer from various combat-related head injuries such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
"Fight for the Troops" featured two welterweight clashes between Josh Koscheck and Yoshiyuki Yoshida, as well as Mike Swick against Jonathan Goulet. It was a solid night of mixed martial arts action on several fronts, but it came at a physical cost for several of the fighters.
In fact, Corey Hill sustained a gruesome leg fracture in the second round of his preliminary bout against Dale Hartt. He underwent successful surgery to repair the damage at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and will be on the mend for about 12 to 18 months.

shouldnt the fighters get some type of award too. they’re just the ones who put themselves on the line and most suffered tough injuries that nite.

Good for the UFC and Dana White. The event was well done and for a very noble cause. Those soldiers need/deserve all the support they can get. They sacrifice life and limb for their country and should have the best treatment possible should they be injured in battle.

$4 million raised is phenominal. Props to Dana and the UFC for doing this! It’s nice to see that there is still some good out there, especially when AIG is swallowing up our tax dollars in bonus money.

Dana didn’t pay all that charity money, the fans did. wheres the thanks and credits the fans deserve for paying the charity foundation? i’m sure they didn’t give every single dollar to charity and kept some for himself and Zuffa just like what happened to FEMA.

Completely wrong, The ENTIRE proceeds from the event went to the TROOPS. STOP hating, GEEZ

you are wrong, the fans proceeded their money from their credit to the foundation from phone call, didn’t you watch Fight For The Troop? This event is aired in the Middle East, the troops didn’t have to pay to see the event just watch for free, how does the event pay for charity if the troops aren’t paying to see the event? and i’m not hatin just saying where’s the credit the fans deserve for paying charity.

Props to the UFC.
This should be a yearly event as long as we have troops actively engaged in combat and our government fails to give them all the help they deserve. The people who really deserve your scorn are the elected officials who are too busy doing other things to allocate the proper help for soldiers wounded in action.
Providing $4 million to treat wounded soldiers isn’t the UFC’s job, it’s our governments, but like most things if you sit around and wait for something to happen you’ll be waiting a long time. Props to them for stepping up and answering the call.
The better question everyone should be asking themselves is what have you, your company, community, church done?
