Only in a video game will you see Forrest Ko’ing people. If they let Forrest finish fights in this game, Im not buying it!
by john on Mar 17, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions
a) He’s KO’d people before, and I’m sure you know this.
b) Only about a third of his wins have been by decision.
Don’t be a hater.
by Tim on Mar 17, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions
the only problem with the game is them making A silva, franklin and all the other southpaws orthadox, which steals a large portion of why they are so dominant

what do the stories about the easter bunny, santa claus, the tooth fairy, and forrest griffin finshing fights have in common? THEYRE ALL FUUUUCKING FICTIONAL!!!!!!!!!
by brendan on Mar 17, 2009 10:12 PM EDT up reply actions
To be fair Forrest does have 10 wins by way of KO or submission and 6 by decision… Even if it’s a decision shouldn’t that still be considered finishing the fight though? The fight still comes to an end with a winner, it’s just a lot more exciting to see someone get KO’d or Subed.
by BK on Mar 17, 2009 11:35 PM EDT up reply actions
no, we don’t need anymore jokes in that thread! =)

The graphics look great and all, but I have never really liked MMa based video games..I just stick to Street Fighter, Mortle Combat and Punch-Out for fighting games..
I actually enjoy Wrestling games as well..
by Stagger-Lee on Mar 17, 2009 12:15 PM EDT reply actions
There has never been an MMA game like this. All the old UFC games SSSUUUCCCKKKEEDD. THis is going to be real good.
by fokman on Mar 17, 2009 12:16 PM EDT up reply actions
I guess it will all come down to the controls..Thats what I dont like about MMa based video games..
by Stagger-Lee on Mar 17, 2009 12:25 PM EDT up reply actions
OMG I can NOT wait for this game. Its going to be SICK!!
by fokman on Mar 17, 2009 12:15 PM EDT reply actions
Release Date is May 19th. I will definately but it the day it comes out.
by Dragon on Mar 17, 2009 12:27 PM EDT up reply actions
get any kool bonus from there, usually whenever you preorder there you get something free?
by Jared on Mar 17, 2009 2:20 PM EDT up reply actions
If you pre-order through EB/Gamestop you get a code that will unlock Ryan Bader & Effrain Escudero. I’m sure they’ll still be unlockable in game, but you get them right off the bat if you pre-order there.
by Volatol on Mar 17, 2009 4:03 PM EDT up reply actions
how bout instead of playing this video game you guys join a martial arts gym and do some traiing? its more fun and healthier!
by brendan on Mar 17, 2009 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions
hmm, i wonder where that leaves, Lyoto Machida.
by nameless on Mar 17, 2009 12:16 PM EDT reply actions
True. I guess karate would qualify as a kickboxing style, but Lyoto also has good Thai skills. The clinch he uses looks like a blend of MT and Greco. He uses Judo-like foot sweeps, as well as throws from the clinch. He has some BJJ as well.
by Pat on Mar 17, 2009 12:54 PM EDT up reply actions
i hope it’s good but we’ll have to see. looks like they stole some gameplay dynamics from fight night…like when a guy is hurt and the game slows down, then slow motion replay of the KO. The MT looked really slow. I wonder how complicated the controls are gonna be if there are different controls for each style you can choose. Also Brock will never mount Mir that easily. I kinda wish instead of picking 1 striking and 1 grappling style they had a slider bar scheme so you blend everything and you choose what you wanna be stronger at with the computer deciding existing fighters’ profiles. Like when you make players in other sports games or fight night, you have a limited number of points or whatever and you divy them up for certain techniques or skills.
by Crowls on Mar 17, 2009 12:24 PM EDT reply actions
That would be cool for creating your own fighter. Then, hopefully, it would give you a training option to go in and train BJJ or boxing or wrestling to improve your overall game.
I think the game is gonna be cool, but, I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those games that gets old really quick too.
by Craig on Mar 17, 2009 12:31 PM EDT up reply actions
time will tell but i’m gonna prepare myself to be disappointed for this one. It’ll be a Rent before Buy situation.
by Crowls on Mar 17, 2009 12:33 PM EDT up reply actions
i just hope it’s not like…ok pick rampage and then u can make him a MT and Judo fighter. That just doesn’t make sense to me. With existing fighters, if you choose styles that don’t jive with reality you should be significantly less effective with them. Like a handicapping mechanism. It would basically be like going into a fight with a bad gameplan. Better players will still be able to win but it would be far more difficult.
by Crowls on Mar 17, 2009 12:37 PM EDT up reply actions
well, Chucks Takedown defense looked weak on that game, when he is good in real life….Rich and Anderson are both southpaws, and they weren’t on that game….Im guessing they all fight the same, with little differences…i dont think the game would be fun if who can win in real life always beats you in the game too
by mma dude on Mar 17, 2009 1:49 PM EDT up reply actions
I’m sure the reason why chuck looked so weak in td defense is because the players werent doing the right things to make it competitive. I think they were just trying to show how takedowns will look and what kind of takedowns there are. However, the southpaw issue is another story… it would be so disappointing if they couldnt get such a easy to fix detail worked out before the release. Or if they could at least give the option to fight southpaw during the game or pre-game and depending on which fighter it is it would effect them differently… for instance, if you could choose rampage to fight southpaw his striking would be a bit sloppier and less affective because he doesn’t naturally fight, where if you chose southpaw with anderson silva your strikes would be most affective. Overall, looks better than all the other ufc/mma games to date so I’m excited… but if the southpaw issue doesn’t get fixed im going to be a little disappointed, mainly because mirko wont be doing the trademark LHK’s and straight left punches.

Yes, there is a training mode. They start you off with a in depth tutorial to get you used to the game. But after that you can go train whatever you want. They set it up real nice so you can train specific positions too. You can tell it to have the guy constantly shoot at you if you want to defend takedowns, or you can tell it to start you off in full guard if you want to work on transitioning into side mount to set up the kimura. That way you don’t start on your feet everytime and have to take the guy down, etc etc

I just wonder how they are gonna do the actual mma fighters. Like Gsp for example he is a karate (Kick boxing) style fighter with his grappling being wrestling (I’m guessing). But he is a black belt in bjj, so does he not use wrestling or bjj?
by Dragon on Mar 17, 2009 12:30 PM EDT reply actions
I agree, two disciplines is not enough, this game is starting to look less appealing to me now.
by Ro-J on Mar 17, 2009 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Think of styles as “positions” in terms of other sports. In NBA games, you have Shaq listed as a centre, but that doesn’t mean you can’t play him at point guard. He’ll be less effective (okay, a lot less lol) at it, but you can do it.

Do you think the BJ Penn character comes with built in post-fight whining?
by UFC Champ on Mar 17, 2009 12:36 PM EDT reply actions
yea and GSP comes with post fight hand jobs from his queer corner men

I’m sure it feels better with the vaseline

Anyone notice that Anderson and Rich were both fighting Righty instead of Southpaw. I wonder if they will change that when before they release it?
by DrMindbender on Mar 17, 2009 12:58 PM EDT reply actions
im guessing karo will be the only one with judo?
by ✰Pretty Boy✰ on Mar 17, 2009 1:12 PM EDT reply actions
Jon Jones would be good here too. Karo better hope they leave him in the game after “cheating”
by BeerMan on Mar 17, 2009 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions
Sad how Rich Franklin has become the symbol of vulnerability under a Muay-Thai clinch…
Point aside, game looks awesome, gameplay will dictate success though.

LOL, they keep showing Chuck getting his azz KTFO!! That’s some funny $hit!
by Savage on Mar 17, 2009 2:15 PM EDT reply actions
im not expecting much from this game. if fighters only have one strking technique and one grappling technique everything is going to be too fake. i could be paulo thiago a ju-jit su fighter and take down gsp and submit him
by Jared on Mar 17, 2009 2:34 PM EDT reply actions
It’s a game dude, it’s not going to be realistic down to every detail. But in career mode, you can pick a fighter and build on his weaknesses, each fighter is assigned two disciplines to start with, and then you build him up as you please, you have the choice to either perfect his strengths or make him more apt in other disciplines.
by Primary_Knukkle on Mar 17, 2009 4:11 PM EDT up reply actions
Everyone here is always complaining about this game, of course on there first try it will not be perfect to each and everyone’s liking. It is still going to be fun to play, fun to play with your friends, and fun to play online. It is not real life so if Brock in a video mounts Mir to easy, well maybe the guy playing as Mir sucks at the game. I will be buying it that is for sure.
Happy St. Patty’s Day I’m already Car Bombed

Right on!!!SF….May 19th I’ll be bringing home my copy for the PS3. I have both systems but think the graphics will look better on PS3.

I might make this the second game in history I have ever pre-ordered. I think it will replace Fight Night 3 as my most played game.

Can’t help but notice a lack of blood… Not a big deal but would have helped make it look more real.
by ognitinoc on Mar 17, 2009 5:36 PM EDT reply actions
looks amazing – wonder if it will play aswel.
also i think EA would have done a better job like this is still no comparison to any of the Fight Night games!
by Randy for Couture on Mar 17, 2009 5:40 PM EDT reply actions
The next UFC game will probably be by EA because its not looking good for IGN to stay around and the rights will be up for grabs. I have heard EA is definately going to inquire.
by fokman on Mar 17, 2009 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions
The grappling looks like its going to be more fun than the striking here.

i like the way you can catch fighters with a knee as dey go for a takedown and its not like press a button and your guaranteed a takedown.
