I can’t wait until April for fights. Can two of you guys fight and post it to you tube. I’m spoiled to the weekly/bi-weekly thing now. I wonder how long it will be until we get see MMA on a weekly basis. I can’t get into these topics anymore. Karo sucks. Kimbo sucks. Arianny is hot. Now I need fights. Maybe I’ll get some kids in my neighborhood to fight while I drink beer in my driveway.

haha! me too. I’m pissin’ my pants waiting for that Anderson fight. My elder bro’s actually into it too, you know, the Anderson Silva phenomenon. It’s like he’s the Michael Jordan[or Kobe Bryant, ehatever] of MMA right now, abd it would be a shame to miss out on his real time performances.

If Karo gets…..
40,000 TO WIN
40,000 TO SHOW
Then how, if the contest is ruled a NO CONTEST, can Karo get money TO WIN? HE should lose the 40,000 TO WIN…..so 40,000 is ALL he WON!!
So 40% od the money earned should be taken. So 40% of 40,000 is 16,000. So that is what Karo should receive….$24,000.
Just dont undertstand how her STILL takes the money to win, when court changed it to a NC????
by fightfan on Mar 18, 2009 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
The commission said it is the warning for all fighters and athletes. If something like this happens, any fighter would be fined the whole winning purse. That’s my understanding from the whole hearing.
by Shu on Mar 18, 2009 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
It makes sense…If they determine a fight a NO CONTEST, then how can the “guilty” fighter receive the WIN BONUS??
It makes sense that they receive the TO SHOW money ONLY and be fined according to that amount. SO, actually Karo did got a HARSH deal. But in the future, fighters MAY not get the WIN BONUS if they are guilty and will be EVEN worse than Karo’s

it wasn’t a preformance enhancing drug and that commissioner treated Karo like he was another steroid case. He took pain killers because he is missing part of his leg. If anything those slow you down.

I kind of feel bad for Parisyan. I think he has a lot of problems in his life that he needs to handle before he can focus on MMA. However, I think this is going to take a huge emotional toll on him and his morale.

You make the bed that you lay in. He knew what he was doing. Falsifying an official document? The moronic “back to reality” excuse? He is lucky he didn’t get a whole year. Dude needs to quit feeling sorry for himself and get off the pills.

Could keep a person fighting longer through pain they normally wouldn’t; makes it really dangerous if the guy takes a bunch of punishment he can’t feel.

by belfort_fan on Mar 18, 2009 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Not in the same sense as steroids, speed or cocaine, no. However, pain killers are dangerous on two fronts. First, they mask pain and can allow a fighter to compete longer. Potentially making the fighter a danger to himself if he doesn’t know when to tap or throw in the towel. Second, pain killers can and do have a psychotropic effect. I for one don’t want a fighter mentally out of it in the ring or Ocatagon. Apparently, neither does the NSAC.

I want to feel bad for him but the commission has to do their job and protect the fighters and in this case even set an example. At my job their would be no hearing and I wouldn’t be allowed to have my license back after 9 months.

screw that prick in the suit on a power trip. im sure if his fat ass was in pain he would be popping a couple of anything he could get his hands on and chasing it with scotch and all he ever does is ride a desk. karo needs to follow the rules but 9 months and 40% of $80,000? im not a big karo fan but he should be allowed some pain killers to be able to go to work and provide for his family. its not like he was taking stereoids.

And I know from experience….If Karo(like going on a radio show where MANY people will listen) said that he “NEVER” takes pills for anxiety or ANYTHING. he even goess on to say he doesnt even know the name, etc, etc.
He obviosuly is trying to compensate here. Many people with pill problems act the SAME way….the whole " I NEVER took anything" and " I dont even know the name" and “I dont need any so I never took any”. He is acting like an addict and trying toi convince himself as well as others that he doesnt take pills

I agree with every word you are saying here! He just needs to step up and be a man about the whole thing. You did wrong and you know what you did now suck it up swallow your bum ass pride and move on. Karo still holds the role that he is the best ever and he is really a contender or something. Whatever! I could probably do good in the octagon if i took a couple vicoden to! I wouldnt feel the punishment coming my way. His style is very boring and he has always talked like he is king sh!t. maybe this will calm him down a little. and i hope when he does fight again he fights on the undercard so he wont waste 15 minutes of ppv time!

Side note……….
“My name is Lorraine Shin, and I am the mother of Jay Dee Penn, also known as B.J. Penn. I have been involved in the MMA arena as a producer for years.
“I have and continue to support my four sons who have earned their black belt status in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I have also had the opportunity of attending many Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments as well as MMA fight events in Hawaii, Guam, Japan, England and the U.S. Mainland. I am no stranger to the MMA fight world.
“During the past 12 years my sons operate and are instructors in the Penn Fitness and Training Center in Hawaii, which I have been very instrumental in its daily operations. My son, Jay Dee Penn, has also produced MMA events under the name of Rumble on the Rock in Hawaii and Guam, and later merged with EliteXC. As the financial adviser for the family, it was imperative for me to understand the rules and regulations governing MMA events.
“On Jan. 31, 2009, I was present at the UFC 94 event held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The fighters in the main event were B.J. Penn vs. Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title.
“I was sitting in the front row, near the entrance to the octagon cage, and clearly understood the seriousness of this fight that had been successfully marketed on prime time television.
“During the rounds that followed, I was shocked to see that B.J. appeared to be helpless, as well as defenseless in his attempts to grasp and hold Georges St. Pierre while on the ground. I silently kept screaming and asking myself, ‘What is wrong? Why can’t B.J. defend himself?’
“I was horrified with fear. My son was going to be seriously hurt because he could not defend himself.
“The match ended in the fourth round, and B.J. Penn lost by TKO when his corner stopped the fight. After the fight was over, I was led immediately to B.J.’s locker room. And knowing that B.J. was seriously hurt, when I reached the locker I heard loud voices yelling that GSP and his cornermen were caught by the Nevada (State) Athletic Commission for applying Vaseline on his body during the rounds and in violation of the rules.
“Although still in shock and fearful for my son, it then made sense to me why B.J. couldn’t defend himself. Georges St. Pierre used a greasy substance on his body, therefore giving St. Pierre an unfair advantage over my son, B.J. Penn.
“While in the locker room, I couldn’t understand why the fight was not stopped by the UFC’s referee or the Nevada State Athletic Commission for the unfair advantage by St. Pierre and his cornerman after they realized the foul. How could this happen? Why was it allowed?
“There are probably several reasons, but the responsibility falls on the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
“The Nevada State Athletic Commission failed in their duties by not immediately notifying the Penn corner of the unfair use of greasing and Vaseline applied on St. Pierre, by not allowing the Vaseline to be removed properly off of St. Pierre, and by not taking the necessary procedures to protect my son from being seriously injured or killed.
“A rushed, quick wipe of St. Pierre’s body did not properly remove the grease from the head, neck, chest, shoulders and back. It is the commissioners’ responsibility to always protect the fighter from the unfair practices by others under the rules that govern MMA events in Nevada.”
Shin was briefly interrupted by NSAC Chairman Bill Brady, who assured her that the commission was aware of the issue at hand.
“I apologize for interrupting you,” Brady said. “We’re aware of what your feelings are on this. That’s what we’re having this hearing for, is to take all of this under advisement.”
Polite in the address, Brady allowed Shin to continue when she assured she was almost finished with her statement. The remainder of the statement is included below:
“It is officially documented that St. Pierre’s team did in fact apply Vaseline to St. Pierre’s body. It is documented that St. Pierre did have an unfair advantage against Penn because of greasing. The Nevada State Athletic Commission needs to do the right thing and find Georges St. Pierre and all others responsible for these unfair practices and punish them to the fullest extent of their authority.
“St. Pierre is the responsible person for the actions of his cornerman and others involved. This can not be ignored by the Nevada (State) Athletic Commission.”
Brady tried to keep the mood light with his casual response following the address.
“B.J., your mother loves you,” Brady said before addressing Shin. “We appreciate your statements, and we understand your feelings.”
Shin was quick to add one final remark while addressing the commission.
“It’s not just for my son,” Shin said. “It’s to do the right thing. You need to do the right thing.”
Shin’s statement was followed by the morning’s final speaker, Steve Pacitti. A lawyer representing St. Pierre, Pacitti’s statement was short and direct.
“The simple fact is that there was nothing done that was explained that would violate the existing rules of the commission,” Pacitti said. “If there was an advantage, it was merely Georges size’ and skill on that night.”
After the conclusion of the meeting, Brady addressed Penn directly just before speaking with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).
“Apologize to your mother that I had to cut her short,” Brady said to Penn. "I have a great deal of respect for her.
“We’ll see where this goes. You come back soon, alright. Las Vegas wants you here, and so does the commission.”

I can’t help but feel bad for Karo Parisyan — I really do, especially in light of everything he had/has going on… leg injury, panic attacks, family issues, etc. But this goes to show you that these guys are professional athletes and will be treated as so to the fullest extent (ok, maybe not salary-wise, but that’s a different discussion). This will obviously be an immense wake up call for him, and if nothing else, will give his leg some time to heal.

Off topic:
I went to the Bellator try-outs yesterday. First off it rained so they didn’t get started until 6pm or a little after. There were no fights, basically what they had the fighters do were try to take each other down, then get in various positions and see if they were able to get out of them (standing up with your back to the cage, on your back being mounted). There was no striking at all. They had a scale, but no weigh-ins. I took video on my digital camera of one of the “try-out matches,” so if anyone wants to see what I’m talking about, e-mail me at:
and I’ll e-mail yoou the video. The quality is ok.
It was ok at best. Not very entertaining. I was under the impression that they were only taking guys with pro records, but they were sort of encouraging anyone with some sort of MMA background to sign up, at least the the guy on the mic was.
