Jonathan Goulet vs. Dong Hyun Kim planned for UFC 100 on July 11

UFC veteran Jonathan Goulet (22-10) has agreed to face the gritty Dong Hyun Kim (11-1-1) at UFC 100 from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 11 according to Five Ounces of Pain.
The "Road Warrior" was in talks to face Tamdan McCrory at UFC 97, however he first needed to receive medical clearance before the welterweight tilt was finalized. Goulet was suspended after getting knocked silly by Mike Swick at UFC Fight Night 16: "Fights for the Troops" in his most recent outing on December 10.
Now set to appear more than six months later at the July 11 show, that clearance will no longer be required.
Prior to the Swick loss, the Canadian was riding back-to-back wins, finishing Kuniyoshi Hironaka via technical knockout of at UFC 83: "Serra vs. St. Pierre," which earned "Fight of the Night" honors.
Goulet was then scheduled to face the previously undefeated Paul Kelly at UFC 85 before pulling out because of undisclosed health concerns.
He'll have his hands full with the venerable Kim.
"Stun Gun" stopped Jason Tan in his inaugural appearance for the promotion at UFC 84: "Ill Will" back in May 2008, pounding out his opponent with elbows in the final frame.
Kim was the beneficiary of a Karo Parisyan UFC 88 meltdown in his sophomore effort, having his Octagon encore against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alum Matt Brown bumped to the televised portion of the pay-per-view broadcast. The popular South Korean earned a close split decision win against "Immortal."
The promising DEEP veteran finally got a crack at "The Heat" at UFC 94 "St. Pierre vs. Penn 2" back on January 31 where he dropped a razor-thin split decision for his first defeat in thirteen attempts.
Now he looks to get back into the win column by overcoming the wily veteran.
UFC 100 features two major title fights: Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir will tangle to declare an undisputed division champion and Georges St. Pierre will once again defend his 170-pound strap against number one contender, Thiago Alves.
In addition, TUF 9 coaches, Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping, are slated to meet and determine who earns the right to challenge the reigning middleweight champion later in 2009.

Goulet is gonna be destroyed …….. and I do wonder how he continues to hang on with this organization.

Well he does good until he fights someone with decent to good power then he is sent back down to the bottom. He’s actually an OK fighter but his chin is what’s killing him.

Yeah that’s his weakness…his galss jaw. He’s lost via KO quite a bit in his career which is a shame cause he’s got a huge heart and has some solid skills. The kid comes to fight and is a warrior. He’s one of those fighters that is usually on one end of a highlight reel…sometimes his own…sometines others.

He’s one of GSP’s buddies, thats why. Why do you think the less than mediocre Drew McFedries is given fight after fight? Because he was/is one of Matt Hughes’ training partners. Bottomline: favoritism and who you know.

Although I gotta cheer for Goulet, being Canadian, i think Kim is going to take this one. Kim was robbed on that decision against Karo, imho. Now that Karo tested positive for pain killers i wonder if the result will stand?

ye kim should of won
and i think he will finish this fight with goulet
goulet has been below par and is definitely not to UFC standards …. i think the only reason he is in the UFC is because of the canadian cards the UFC put on
by ufcaddict on Mar 14, 2009 6:45 AM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, I too think Kim got robbed in the Parisyan fight. Kim should take this.
by Stryker on Mar 14, 2009 9:29 AM EDT up reply actions
I dont even think the karo fight was close. I clearly had stun gun winning 2 rounds
by john on Mar 14, 2009 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions
I had Karo winning that fight but it was so close that I wouldn’t have been surprised at any judges scores after that one.

Regardless of who deserved the decision, I came away hugely unimpressed by Kim. Karo came into that fight looking DOWNRIGHT AWFUL physically, plus the mental panic attack issues. He was ripe to be steamrolled and Kim did nothing in that fight to take advantage of the situation at all. Kim looked mediocre at best in every facet. Kim may very well beat Goulet, but he’s a long way from being a major player within the division.
BTW, welcome back John. While we don’t always agree, I do appreciate the passion, knowledge and enthusiasm you bring to the site.

Stun Gun needs to end a fight in the fashion that got him where he is today – a brutal pasting of next mans face
by Insain on Mar 14, 2009 9:15 AM EDT reply actions
I can not believe they are putting guy’s like these on the 100 card. what a waste
by JRE on Mar 14, 2009 9:57 AM EDT reply actions
shut up, a fights a fight. plus, unless you’ve been following Stun Gun’s career, you havnt seen what he can do. Stun Gun is a wild man in a fight. Hes given people some of the most athletic ass whooping’s ive seen. Hopefully you will get to see it in his next fight.

Your for-getting, Mir vs Brock, GSP vs Alves, and Chuck vs ? if he wins…..not bad

Goulet is still around because he either TKO/KO’s his opponent or he gets TKO/KO’d. His fights are rarely boring, which you can’t say the same for some other WW fighters in the UFC. Either way, this fight is meant to add to Kim’s HL reel. And he should tko Goulet.
by reverse kung fu on Mar 14, 2009 10:16 AM EDT reply actions
I’m glad I’m not the only one who is wondering why Goulet is still with the UFC, let alone being on such an epic card like UFC 100. That being said, Kim by TKO via hellbows.
by anom on Mar 14, 2009 11:11 AM EDT reply actions
Goulet isn’t a bad fighter. He’s actually pretty good, but his chin just kills this guy. He really can’t take a punch well and it kills him against top competition.
His fight against Hironaka was very exciting. But I agree that he probably won’t last long in the UFC with the ridiculously stacked roster it now boasts.
by Matt on Mar 14, 2009 11:15 AM EDT reply actions
Thats because you cant build up a resistance to brain injury and everytime you get KO’D (which is a traumatic brain injury at the time it happens) it sets you back instead forward, which makes you more suseptible to being KO’D everytime it happens. Im still waiting for an MMA guy to pull a Chris Benoit just to find out that his brain has been injured severely. WAR THE SUBMISSION VICTORY! The one thing I see wrong with MMA these days is the amount of KO’S. WAR THE SUBMISSION VICTOR, I would way rather see an armbar or heelhook or some sort of SUBMISSION!!!!

This is probably more or less a marketing ploy for when Akiyama makes his UFC debut.
by Zach on Mar 14, 2009 11:40 AM EDT reply actions
Well said… didn’t think in that way at all but it’s true.
I’ll be rooting for both Akiyama and Kim, two really great guys.

this fight should also be on the undercaard, along with the fitch fight. i was hyped to see all the top superstars before at this event. i don’t even really want to watch coleman and bonner. i would like to see rashad beat lyoto first round and not take too much damage, than fight rampage ufc100
by ufcfanatic23 on Mar 14, 2009 1:42 PM EDT reply actions
That is really a dream come true if that happens, not that Rashad is going to beat Lyoto… THAT’s fact!
