Jason Guida agrees to replace Ken Shamrock at 'March Badness' against Bobby Lashley on March 21

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 castaway Jason Guida has verbally agreed to face former WWE superstar Bobby Lashley at "March Badness," live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Pensacola Civic Center in Pensacola, Fla., on March 21 according to Larry Pepe of Pro MMA Radio.

March Badness -- a hybrid mixed martial arts and boxing event being put on by former boxing champion Roy Jones Jr. -- was originally set to feature Lashley against "The World's Most Dangerous Urine Sample," Ken Shamrock, until Shammy got popped for steroids following his "win" over Ross Clifton at WarGods: "The Valentine’s Eve Massacre" last month.

Former Heavyweight boxing champion Hasim "Rock" Rachman -- who recently expressed his desire to enter the world of MMA -- was offered the bout against Lashley but declined. Also considered was MMA pioneer Don Frye, however "The Predator" was unable to come to terms with event promoters.

Enter Jason Guida.

Guida (17-19) — brother of UFC lightweight contender Clay Guida — recently squandered perhaps the biggest opportunity of his fighting career when he was booted off the first episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" (TUF) 8 for failing to make the 205-pound division limit.

Despite an up-and-down career (as evidenced by his record), Guida has proven in the past that he can hang with some pretty decent fighters. In fact, he holds wins over Marvin Eastman, Ron Faircloth, Ron Fields (twice) and Mike Van Meer.

None of those guys are at the elite level, but they all have a ton of experience and are tough as nails.

Star-divide

He’s also been in the cage and came up on the losing end to guys like Vernon White, Travis Wiuff, Terry Martin, Thales Leites and Eric Schafer.

In short, he’s not worried about too much when he’s in there. Guida pretty much just comes to fight, and win or lose, he leaves it all in the cage.

Hopefully he leaves the cage in one piece come March 21.

Lashley (1-0) is an absolute monster, weighing in right around the 265-pound heavyweight limit for his fights. He destroyed Joshua Franklin in under a minute during his MMA debut last December with devastating takedowns and a ground-and-pound that opened up a nasty fight ending gash on Franklin’s head.

One of the newest members of the prestigious American Top Team, Lashley has a rare blend of size, freakish athleticism and blazing quickness. He’s going to be a handful for anybody in a fight, let alone a fighter he outweighs by more than fifty pounds.

Also expected to be in action is the man who put an end to the Kimbo Slice hype train last October with a 14-second technical knockout, Seth Petruzelli. He’ll lock horns with ex-WEC 205 pound champion Doug "The Rhino" Marshall. Top heavyweights Roy "Big Country" Nelson and Jeff "The Snowman" Monson will also collide in a featured MMA fight as well.

The boxing portion of the event will be headlined by Roy Jones Jr. taking on Omar Sheika.

Stay tuned for more updates on "March Badness" as they become available.

i knew shamrock would find a way out of the lashley fight

anyway this will be the same ending as it would of been if he was fighting shamrock 1st round TKO

and then i think he signs with the ufc

p.s. how old is lashley??

HAHAHAHA, this is a joke right? Lashley by just showing up and scaring this clown out of the octagon.

by iagoof22 on Mar 13, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

They should have let Shamrock fight anyway. At least he might have had a chance on the juice.

by SpiderStyle on Mar 14, 2009 10:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Guida by flopping man-boob smack!

by OJR on Mar 13, 2009 1:36 PM EDT up reply actions

LOL OJR! I would have rather have seen Ken instead.

basically thats what Ken will look like next year once all the roids wear off

by McArthur on Mar 13, 2009 2:59 PM EDT up reply actions

i think when he got on the show he was 218 and he cut down to 207 and couldnt get that last pound out. he would have been matched up with krystof anyway so it probably would not have mattered.

by Winner by Strikes!! on Mar 13, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Ridiculous! Guida has no skill or stamina. Talk about transforming this to a C rated fight! This doesn’t even deserve to be televised now.

from a D rated fight

this wont be pretty ladies and gentleman

by johan-lofgren on Mar 13, 2009 6:31 PM EDT up reply actions

He could’ve cut it, but officials wouldn’t let him… it’s Guida’s own fault though, he should’ve come in closer to weight.

the best one has to be when the caveman is playing tennis with billy jean king….“ahhhhh I get it…i quit, but I get it”

by McArthur on Mar 13, 2009 1:33 PM EDT up reply actions

No..I think Ken would have better chance then this mofo.. He is going to " Killed ".. that’s like a Pug fighting a overgrown PitBull.. it’s not fair.

Ever since I saw this Clown as dude.. on TUF..he’s bunz! The same people that tried to keep Ken away from Lashley.. should sit down and talk to this dude.. on the up side it is a HW match.. He shouldnt have a problem making weight.

by PhilQNY on Mar 13, 2009 1:04 PM EDT up reply actions

yea, this is just as bad of a matchup. Can they really not find a legit HW(size wise). At least make him fight another Big even if the guy has no skill.

by Crowls on Mar 13, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions

They should have just matched up Lashly vs. Rothewell. Rothwell is legit, has name value and wouldnt be able to stop lashly takedowns, so Lashley can have his way with him, which is the point of a lashly fight right now anyway. Its no secret they are trying to build him up. I really think he could take Rothwell, and that would give his career a nice lift, not that he needs one.

by DAVE on Mar 13, 2009 7:36 PM EDT up reply actions

Rothwell is dangerous for Lashley though- Rothwell can beat Lashley on his best day. This Guida guy however; no matter what day it is- stands no chance against bobby

by big_evil on Mar 13, 2009 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions

he is going to take a beating.

by roy on Mar 13, 2009 12:55 PM EDT reply actions

agreed he will be beat down

by Mike on Mar 13, 2009 1:01 PM EDT reply actions

Guida wins when Lashley knocks him down, and Huggie Bear rolls Chubby Bear out of the ring and secretly replaces him, then surprises Lashley with a piledriver for the win.

by PW on Mar 13, 2009 1:02 PM EDT reply actions

but wait..!!!! there’s 2 refs!!! and they’re both Danny Davis!!

Oh man I didnt think it could get any worse after Shammy got tested positive for roid’s, I figured they would atleast give Lashley someone descent, but Jason Guida, hahahaha what a joke

he’s got a better chance to win than shamrock did.

by COR on Mar 13, 2009 1:09 PM EDT reply actions

Just think about it for a minute what’s going through Ken’s mind as he learns who his replacement is…

At this point, there’s nothing acidic we could even remotely post that would be insane enough for Ken to shout “WTF!!?, Jason Guida is MY replacement?”

Somewhere, Jason Guida’s braincells are shedding a tear at their eventual departure.

Somewhere else Bobby Lashley is stomping a mudhole in his sparring partner out of frustration knowing that he has to do “dirty work” in both getting his hands dirty with a “can” and then follow it up by taking a trip to the local RV Spray n Wash to bathe after the fight to wash the stank of Jason Guida off of his body.

by Jay K. on Mar 13, 2009 1:31 PM EDT reply actions

you made me spit my cofee all over the place

by randy murders on Mar 13, 2009 1:44 PM EDT up reply actions

…provided that Jason Guida makes weight. Oh, wait he won’t have to.

Ringling Bros puts on more entertaining show. A clown is a clown.

is there ANYTHING left going thru Ken’s mind??

is anyone other than Guida’s mother that is interested in Jason Guida??

even Lashley, who hasn’t proven anything yet deserves better.

by RAM on Mar 13, 2009 5:31 PM EDT up reply actions

“stomping a mudhole in his sparring partner”

That is some funny sh_t.

by BobC on Mar 13, 2009 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions

This type of matchmaking is why smaller organizations fail. This fight is just stupid.

by VNDK8 on Mar 13, 2009 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

at leas the doesnt have to worry about cutting weight

good luke guida your gonna need it

by Duke Oursler on Mar 13, 2009 1:54 PM EDT reply actions

I thought this guy was a bit of a jackpot on TUF. He came off like a total meathead did he not!!!

by the spyder on Mar 13, 2009 1:55 PM EDT reply actions

He was as bad as Gabe “Put Me Back in the Sauna, BJ” Ruediger about cutting weight.

by PW on Mar 13, 2009 1:57 PM EDT up reply actions

ruediger put weight on in the house though so his weight cut was because noone picked him til it was late and i think he was hurt so he couldnt train for awhile but they let him stay, guida was just a bitch about it cutting 13lbs for a reality show is NOTHING that’s a natural cut for a lot of guys at 205

by randy murders on Mar 13, 2009 2:13 PM EDT up reply actions

or Bobby from Season 1, they are all schmucks.

by JakeAnd on Mar 13, 2009 2:17 PM EDT up reply actions

So easy a cave man could do it. I knew that homely mug looked familiar, and then saw his little bro beside him, LOL. Wow 17-19 what a stellar record, him and tank abbott should get together, man this fat ass is in the wrong business.

by nathan on Mar 13, 2009 2:16 PM EDT reply actions

If Guida remembers where his house is after this match I will be suprised. This is going to be a mugging, and if Guida doesn’t shit his pants while he’s out on the mat, I will know Lashly took it easy on him. I’m not a Lashly fan, but come on, get this guy some competition.

by MM_Eh on Mar 13, 2009 2:19 PM EDT reply actions

He’s not going to take a beating.
I doubt it will take more than 2 punches.

by KS on Mar 13, 2009 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

true

by randy murders on Mar 13, 2009 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

shamrock’s thought process going into accepting this fight:

“well i’ll get caught for all the horse steroids i took anyway…. might as well have people THINK i still have some balls…. man i wish i were as cool as frank”

by sanshouer on Mar 13, 2009 2:32 PM EDT reply actions

I think it is lame they couldn’t find a real heavyweight. At best, Guida is going to weigh 215-220 and not be lean. Lashley will cut weight to make 265. I would have rather watched a juiced-up Ken fight Lashley.

by San Jose Rob on Mar 13, 2009 4:13 PM EDT reply actions

they should of got dumbo slice to fight lashley ?

by CraigMack on Mar 13, 2009 4:19 PM EDT reply actions

My guy Steve Banks wanted the fight against Lashley. He cuts to 265lbs as well and is 3-1. I may still order the event to see Roy Jones Jr.

by Nate on Mar 13, 2009 5:50 PM EDT reply actions

lashley by digestion in the first, then the ufc just needs to sign him so we can see the super-fight with lesner

by ufcfanatic23 on Mar 14, 2009 2:09 PM EDT reply actions

Lashley is no were near as skilled a wrestler as Lesnar! Lesnar was 106 and 5 in college wrestling and a two-time NJCAA All-American, NJCAA Heavyweight Champion, two-time NCAA All-American, two-time Big Ten Conference Champion, and the 2000 NCAA heavyweight champion! The day Lesnar stepped in to MMA you could tell this is were he belongs, I can’t say the same yet for Lashley but it will be interesting to see.
