'Mask' from TapouT killed in car crash

Props: Los Angeles Times
Quoteworthy:
"A bizarre car crash in Newport Beach involving two luxury cars early this morning left one person dead, a second injured, a third arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and a fourth person was detained by police long enough to sober up. A Newport Beach Police Department officer allegedly witnessed the wreck and saw a red Ferrari and a white Porsche 'spinning out of control' on Jamboree Road between Bison Avenue and East Bluff Drive at 12:57 a.m., Newport Beach Lt. Craig Fox said. The Ferrari "hit the curb and then collided with a pole.' The Porsche came to a stop at the scene for a few seconds and then sped away, Fox said. 'It was terrible. It was extensive damage to the vehicle,' Fox said, adding that the Ferrari appeared to have split in half.... He said the investigation is ongoing but that police identified skid marks at the scene 'consistent with excessive speeding.'"
Mauro Ranallo -- Fight Network Radio host -- confirmed that the dead individual is indeed "Charles Lewis Jr. also known as Mask, the founder of multi-million dollar company, popular MMA clothing line and television show TapouT." Rest in peace.
Check out video news footage of the horrific car wreck after the jump.

not trying to be, being serious roy. why isn’t it funny though?? because he’s dead? The schtick wasn’t funny when he was alive either!

good because it wasn’t, and sure you being serious about his tongue hanging out.i know how you are but sometimes if you don’t have nothing good to say just don’t say anything.i am not saying i was a huge fan but no need to go there when someone dies.
by roy on Mar 11, 2009 3:59 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
nothing makes me laugh more than when someone dies and all the tools come out of the shed to show respect. They are some of the corniest and uncomfortable comments of any thread. examples:
“You will be remember Charles”
“cool guy most of had some bad roid rage”
and my favorite:
“Great person, great apparel, RIP Mask, Tapout 4 Life.”
did you know him?
by kevin on Mar 11, 2009 4:01 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, I wasn’t a big fan of the makeup and stuff, but I gained a little respect after hearing him say that they had been sponsoring fighters for a while and they would go to events and no one would recognize them…so he went the costuems to make sure that never happened again. His ambition was admirable. I’ve yet to have a business as successful as his and I can’t think of any talents he has that most of us don’t. I think he just lived his life to the fullist. Looks like he made a bad move here, but I hate to see it end like that.

IF he was drinking and driving, I am happy that he did not take any innocent people with him.
Otherwise, I have no sympathy for this douche bag.

Didn’t you read the story. They charged someone with gross vehicular homicide… So he obviously was hit by another car or in the passengers seat of the Ferrari dummy.

Please take into account this man had family and friends who loved him and are hurting because of this tragedy.
It’s unbelievable that individuals would continue to make jokes about him and call him crude names at a time like this. How can your hearts be so hard?

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mania was down all day, for me at least.
I can’t believe this. I am genuinely upset.
If you watched the TAPOUT show, you would know that there is more to Mask than the face paint. He was a real, down to earth, guy that was TRUELY on the side of the fighters.
The Albert “Bad” Manners comes to mind instantly. All the pep talks he gave that kid, put him up in his own apartment and paid for it, changed his nickname to “REspect”….
Man, this sucks. My heart goes out to Mask’s Friends, Family, and the entire TapOut crew.
Now I’m going to read about it and watch video…

Kevin, I can’t get on board here man, it’s just unnecessary. I can’t speak to whether Mask was a good guy or not, but that’s a pretty bad way to go out. We’ll see what happens when more info comes out and see who was driving, but obviously excessive speed and drinking don’t mix well. I’m not about to shed a tear over the loss but it certainly is unfortunate. I do wish all the best to his family.

No need Kevin…I kind of half suspect that you’re looking to get a reaction here…Well you got one lol.
Seriously though, I know what you’re saying about everyone coming out and “paying their dues” like as if they actually knew the guy, yet it doesn’t affect my day. Still though it’s kind of in poor taste but I’m sure you’re saying it in jest and damn it, I gave you the reaction.

Yeah you’re right Dayzah but I’m just saying what I think Kevin means, I can see where he’s coming with regards to some of the cringing stuff. I do think it’s sad and most of the comments are nice.
Still though I find it sad that someone has to go in that manner. It does make me shudder because I’ve seen footage of John Graziano, the guy that was in the car with Nick Hogan and was left a vegetable with a half a skull! It least he wasn’t left like that. That stuff is pretty much straight out of Metallica’s One video. Horrific.
I recognise the guy from the crowd during the PPVs and it is a sad state of affairs that anyone has to go this way.
Like someone above said I’d rather people said nothing at all if they didn’t have anything good to say at all.

I read on here a lot, since it was ufcmania and I seldom actually post. I am usually too busy. With that being said, Kevin you are pile of you know what. You acted the same way when Evan Tanner died. How do you sleep at night knowing you have no compassion or empathy about a human losing their life. Of course we do not know Mask but just like Tanner, he was a huge ambassador of our sport. He helped up and coming fighters. If you are on this website it is because you love the sport and when we lose people that benefit it, it makes people wish the best for those around them. I as well wish the best for the tapout crew and Mask’s family.

They should kick Kevin off or EVERYBODY just stop replying to this douche. If you want them to bury him with his face painted, then they should bury you with your favorite hoagie, industrial bag size of potato chips, a couple of extra large pizzas and your soda of choice. TMZ has learned Charles Lewis Jr. — aka “Mask” — was driving his Ferrari Modena in Orange County, Calif. around 1:00 AM this morning when cops say it “left the roadway, hit the curb, took out a light pole.”
“Mask” was declared dead at the scene. A female passenger — who was ejected from the crash — was taken to a local hospital, but we’re told she’s in bad shape.
Cops believe “Mask” was racing a guy in a Porsche at the time of the crash, and authorities have since arrested the guy they believe was driving the other car. That man — Jeffrey David Kirby — is being held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter.

The way I see it there are people in life I don’t really care for; don’t care to talk to; see, interact with in anyway, but regardless, I don’t wish those people dead, or wish bad things upon those people. No matter how you look at it, this is a tragedy, it’s a needless crime that didn’t have to happen.
No Kevin, most/all of us didn’t know this guy personally, but at a time like this some respect is warranted. Personally if my brother/father/sis/any family member died, I wouldn’t want a bunch of strangers on here bad mouthing them and telling me about what a jerk they were. It’s just common courtesy.

I understand what Kevin is saying about treating people differently after they’re dead. I don’t like it when people are glorified after they die. If they were a douchebag when they were alive I’m not going to change my feelings about them just because they’re dead.
I do believe the family and friends should be shown respect by not bashing their loved one right after they died. I think the best thing to do is to just keep your mouth shut.
Personally, I didn’t like Evan Tanner, but I didn’t say anything about him after he died. It’s just disrespectful.
by RealDrew on Mar 11, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
O Damn and PW pretty much explained what I was trying to get at at the top of the thread except they put it down in print much better than I could.
If Kevin is being serious about the character thing (hear me out for a moment) then perhaps, but I doubt it. I know Darrell Abbott (Dimebag) was buried in his gear with one of his guitars if I remember correctly. No wait I think he was buried with one of Eddie Van Halen’s original frankenstrats.

by RobH86 on Mar 11, 2009 7:35 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Its obvious that Kevin doesn’t have respect for human life other than his own. Apparently we’re all supposed to bow down to him. Yeah, Mask may have done some things that looked pretty stupid at the time, but seriously man, this guy had friends, family, fighters, and fans that all looked up to him and cared about him, show some respect and shut up.

Agreed Jake, the only people here cracking jokes, not giving a damn are the ones that don’t hold any value for human life but their own, if it doesn’t happen in your own little personal bubble then you don’t give a damn; thats why things don’t change; violence doesn’t go anywhere, crime doesn’t decrease; because that “Me and mine are the only things that matter” mentality is so prevelant.

Kevin, thats understood; I’m not saying it HAS to effect you, I’m saying this is a negative tragedy, though we are not in pain, or suffering there are people who are and this isn’t the place or the time for comedy. I understand that you don’t care what happens to some joe blow that you don’t know; but on the other side of the coin, you don’t gotta make light of it either. It’s just disrespectful. And yea, a lot of people came here to pay their “respects” to the guy. He messed up, maybe his personality wasn’t something a lot of people liked, but he made big contributions to the sport we all enjoy so much.

Nothing wrong with valuing human life; you ever come across a homeless guy and give him some $$ or some food? Ever donate to a charity?? Ever try to help a family that has nothing by buying christmas presents? Same concept here, you don’t have to know the guy to pay some respects to him; better to cultivate a caring mindset then feed this “I don’t give a damn about people” garbage.

MoonUK: Thats not personal; it’s the truth; Why would I want MORE desensitizied people that don’t seem to care about, or value human life continuing to grow in number?? Thats not what I’m about, he already said he was not a sentimental guy, didn’t care about the situation; and YES I’m voicing my opinion and saying I HOPE his children follow their mothers example and HELP the poor. How is my comment even an insult? I said “I feel sorry for your kids, hope they take after their mother”. His view on how a person should be/treat other people obviously differs greatly from mine. If you even read that sentence in context, I’m complimenting his wife! From my point of view she seems like a very good person, I already established before that comment that I didn’t like that attitude, or point of view, and obviously didn’t think highly of it. How the hell was that an insult???

Is this thread even about MMA?? It’s about a tragic death, I have no idea where you’re hell bent on insulting the guy, or conveying to everyone here that you don’t give a damn that he died? Why is it so important that you guys don’t care? Why do you need to hammer home that argument???
by O damn he got caught on Mar 11, 2009 7:19 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
And WHAT the hell is your overall point? That we’re wrong? and we’re just stupid bleeding hearts for showing some concern that a death occured in a high speed accident? Your mindset is “screw em, I don’t care”, most people here sound something like “wow this is tragic, I hope this never happens again.” Most people here will probably STOP someone in the future from driving drunk, they will STOP their friends from making stupid ass decisions, you’ll probably sit there and go “gee, I don’t give a damn, do what you will”

Look Kevin, I have a more warped sense of humor than most people. It doesn’t affect me the slightest bit when some obscure celebrity dies, and sometimes I’ll say something off the wall like you. That being said, I don’t think Mask’s death is in any way something to be insensitive about. I watched almost every episode of the Tapout show and he grew on me. IMO – He is also a very important piece of MMA history. He’s friends with a ton of MMA fighters and helped alot of them get their start. The Tapout brand was the first major lable in MMA. He deserves some respect from a MMA fan site. I’ll even venture to say that some fighters and inside players read these sites, they too think your a douche now.
Of course you’ll say you don’t care, internet posters never have to own up to what they say anyway. Thats the beauty of it all. Anonymity
I actually think you make valid points at times, you’ve lost my respect.
I think all true fans of this sport feel a loss. RIP

Hey, I thought he was drunk like the other guy was. Who are you calling a dick. Even if he wasn’t drunk what the fuck was he doing racing a drunk at high speeds on a public road. What if your kids/friends/family was driving down that road at that moment. Just because he was or wasn’t drunk doesn’t mean he’s free of guilt. You should learn not to be a dick. If I was misinformed then you should correct me in a decent manner like Dayzah did. I have no problem being wrong but called a dick for no reason is just a little inappropriate and childish.

There are places and times to speed, on a public street isn’t either of those. And no I haven’t ever gotten a speeding ticket, is that hard to believe? And reckless endangerment is worthy of death, yes. And I stand by my other comments, like it or not. This man is no hero and to say otherwise is laughable. CouchChamp I don’t drive obsolete vehicles but I don’t kill in my Escalade either.

BTW, you say there are places and times to speed, but public streets aren’t the place. Tell me, where are these so called places to speed? Cause there are no speed limits anywhere else but public streets. And don’t say a track b/c it is not “speeding” on a track.

Thats lame, and yea you’re a dick if you think someone deserves to die for speeding. We’re not talking about a mass murderer, or a serial killer; just a guy who caught some good breaks in life and had some money. Get off your high horse and quit acting like you never made mistakes in life; you’re no better than anyone else. You don’t have any right to sit there and tell someone they deserve to crash or die because of a stupid mistake.
by O damn he got caught on Mar 11, 2009 4:44 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ya, we’ve all made mistakes in life, but most people (with brains) learn from OTHER PEOPLE’S MISTAKES!!!!! You know, the endless amount of people who kill innocent bystanders while racing fast cars, wasted out of their minds. Or maybe “Crash”…I mean “Mask”… didn’t have a television to watch terrible news broadcasts about drunks killing other people, or maybe he has never read the endless articles about thee situations in the newspapers EVERY DAY, or maybe he’s never heard of orginizations like MADD (that usually have dead family members, because of idiots like him).
I will go on record and say that “I’m happy an idiot who has no respect for other people, will not have another opportunity to kill someone else with his own stupidity”
I’m not saying he’s a mass murderer or a serial killer, but he played russion roulette….and lost. If he put a gun to his head and pulled the trigger, would you be saying the same thing?…..I would.
by introvert on Mar 11, 2009 6:49 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
you DO NOT have the right to pass judgement on these people because they did something stupid and paid for it. Technically, they PAID for their mistake in spades, so what would satisfy you?? They need to go roast in hell next? That attitude is disgusting, get some counseling and seek help; NO ONE should be happy about anyone dying, thats sick. You sit there breathing a sigh of relief and smiling when someone does something stupid and dies for it?? You got some serious hate/anger issues.
If he put a gun to his head I wouldn’t be sitting here talking about how stupid the guy is; I’d be sending my best wish’s to his family/friends like I was trying to do before the haters showed up. You’re one of the most negative posters on here, about any subject period, I don’t know if its cause your life sucks that bad, you hate yourself or what the hell the deal is, but keep that BS garbage that comes out of your mouth to yourself.

RobRoy! and even when he called out the established ones. Funny as Hell and priceless, he had such a great impact on both Punk Ass and Skyscrape whom I’m sure miss him terribly as well as all the fighters that he took under his sponsorship to represent his clothing line. Growing up around death (Family owns a funeral home), I’ve seen alot of stuff. I can honestly say I don’t feel bad about what happened here to Mask, but I do feel for his family & friends because they are the ones who are gonna suffer from his stupidity. Sober or not street racing is just plain stupid and if you keep it up something like this is bound to happen especially with high end sport cars.

This is true, but there’s no reason to be happy or comical about it; I’m not here arguing with these guys because it’s someone semi famous, I’m arguing because the “I don’t care” comments aren’t necessary; fine you don’t care; now show you don’t care and don’t comment. Who goes to a funeral and sits there saying “man I didn’t know this guy, this was a 2nd cousin removed, I don’t give a sh!t.”? Get real, half the family that was close to the guy would LYNCH you. Just a little respect, thats all I was asking for.

I will say that I find the general scenario and topic at hand here, that of road deaths from and drink driving and street racing saddening. It claims far too may lives.

Kevin…..I’m not going to rip you for having an opinion. That’s what this Country is all about. You know your MMA and every since I’ve been on this site, there are a few people that I look for when I click on a link like you, John, ODHGC, ROB, VM,PHILny etc, to see what they have to say. But dude… you don’t have to know someone to be somewhat remorsefull. I never watched 1 episode of Tapout but saw this dude on every PPV when the camera would go to them. I thought he looked a fool, but life is a good thing..we are all living right now. I choked up when that High School Basketball kid’s Mom died and the other team missed the Technical Free throws on purpose. There are so many instances of stuff like that, and I didn’t know any of the people and had never heard anything about them until “death” came a callin. Your MMA knowledge is top notch and I would never tell another person to stop saying stuff that creates so much controversy. I look forward to your posts on MMA topics.

You have a valid point Kevin. I won’t rag on you like some of the other guys because I’ve been here long enough to now that you’re actually a good guy for the most part and things have just got a little out of hand here and a lot of people have stupidly taken offence as if they were the dude’s brother which is retarded. No one really wanted this $hitstorm and think it’s kind of spiralled out of control. Mountain out of a molehill.
Anyways back to my original thoughs, case in point, Nick Hogan. That guy got serious $h!t for being an absolute asshole, street racing and drunk. Absolute idiot. Everyone agrees with me on that.
Now if Nick Hogan had have been the one who suffered and I called Nick an idiot (based on his actions which no one can argue) then I would get flamed.
“He said police have not determined which one was driving and which one was the passenger.”
I won’t say much more at the moment as I don’t know if he was an innocent passenger or the driver.
In short, sad scenario, terrible for his family and friends. But I won’t make any disingenious sentiments about the guy, I hardly know of him.

Mask and the crew did a ton for this sport. Aside from the early fighters, these guys are pioneers on a bunch of levels in the sport. Some people on here don’t know how to show respect, and really end up looking like douche bags. Regardless of their get ups and crazy antics, they really are great guys and Mask was an intense and driven guy…only got the chance to hang with him a couple of times, but he contributed a lot and they support the hell out of a lot of fighters…there will always be douche bags on blog sites, but that doesn’t negate the fact that Mask deserves respect for what he contributed to the sport that we all ‘apparently’ love.

I can honestly say I am dissappointed in the posts on this site. I was fortunate enough to meet and talk to Charles Lewis Jr. aka “Mask” in Las Vegas prior to one of the WEC shows and I found him to be a very decent, caring and truly intelligent person. He truly loved the sport of MMA and dispite the antics was a very articulate and intelligent business man. You may have only seen the make-up and crazy antics that he did, but during my conversation with him I was fortunate enough to meet the person who was using what he had to promote himself and his compnay to the best of his ability. It obviously worked because we are all on this web site reading about his untimely demise. How many people will be readin about our demise when our time comes? I doubt there will be very many of us who can say that anyone other than our immediate friends and family with have any interest in our passing. As for the comments of some of the posters on hee it is disrespectful and shows a complete lack of class to speak ill of the dead, whether you liked the person or not. As was stated in an earlier post, if you have nothing good to say then don’t say anything at all. As for me I will say the same thing I say when anyone dies. God Speed and may you get five minutes in heaven before the devil knows your dead!

That sums it up really good Boadyzafa, I been trying to talk some sense into these other guys but it’s obvious that some people cannot be reached. They will continue on with that disrespectful mindset and pass it on; the bigger picture in my opinion is that the more this “I don’t care”/“screw them they deserved it” attitude spreads, the more we decay morally as a society.

WTF does a guy dying in a car crash have to do with MMA? I mean I know he’s affiliated with MMA circles, but you guys act like because he is involved with MMA we are all supposed to act like he’s a saint. What if Dennis Rodman got drunk, raced a car, then killed someone on the sidewalk? He’d be fair game, because he’s not involved in MMA?
Give me a break. Racing Ferrari’s drunk only ends in 3 ways…..
1) You get busted and lose your liscense, get a fine, and maybe see a little jail time.
2) You kill yourself.
3) You kill an innocent bystander.
I don’t give a flying f#ck whether he is involved in MMA. I don’t care if he invented and patented absolutely everything that has to do with, or is affiliated, with the entire MMA world…..it makes no difference.
I would prefer #1 happened. But since it didn’t…..I’m glad #2 did…before #3.

so who knows what he was, either way RIP.

Well, I must admit I have probably read every thread on here for the last year but have never actually posted anything because I’ve never felt such an urge to do so. After reading all the banter back and forth between you guys, I had to add my comment, but I will not post again. So say what you will to my post, as I won’t be checking back to read it! :)
It truly doesn’t matter if he made a mistake or not…the fact is he’s dead. And for his family and friends, this will obviously be a difficult time. Each of you should take the time to think about how you would feel if your brother or sister or best friend in the world made a stupid MISTAKE and drove too fast and died (all other details irrelevant). You can’t tell me that you wouldn’t be upset over it. So really, the side comments are unnecessary. There’s a reason we call them “MISTAKES”. Not one of us on this board is perfect. So yes, he paid for his mistake…leave it at that.
Why not let people use this thread to post their condolence’s to a person who has passed on and start a separate thread about whether or not what he did matters to you? Just a thought.

Sad sad day in the MMA world and for MMA fans. Mask did alot for this sport I love. I had the honor of meeting Mask Feb 6th, 2009 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa. Mask had an uncany ability to make you feel like his best friend like he has known you for years. A great man was lost today and he will be mist. Much love and prayers to his family and friends.

see kevin if you died tomorrow we would all still be remorseful for you and your family no matter how much of a disrespectful prick your being today… and if we wouldnt be remorseful then we wouldnt say anything at all… so no matter what reason you have for not liking or not caring for mask may be keep it to yourself but your just going out your way to make disrespectful comments.. you dont care then dont say anything… its like lets say someone close to you passed and you busted up in tears.. a stranger ask you if your ok and you tell them why your crying… would you rather have them tell you they dont care or just not say anything at all?!? dont get me wrong im not wishing anything bad to happen to you or your loved ones bro… just making a point and to say you make me sick…

by Chadx23 on Mar 12, 2009 3:41 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Kevin doesn’t have to apologize for anything. This is a blog where you can express your views… I don’t see what he said that could be offensive. I didn’t know Mask, just seen him on TV or the web just like the majority of everyone else. So we come to our own conclusion of what someone was all about. I don’t know if Mask was married of had kids(don’t really care!!)but if he did and even if he didn’t at 45 years of age he should of been alot more mature then that. The saddest part of all of this is others have been hurt from his stupidity. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones, but for him, I could care less!

Wow, Kevin’s a douchebag if no one minds me saying. Regardless of whether or not you liked the guy, or his style, a human has died. Someone lost a family member and friend. That deserves some respect.
One of the things I have noticed about the internet, and it’s anonymity, is that is gives people the courage to say messed up shit. And if that is how Kevin and others speak, face to face to people. I am glad I don’t associate with them. The world has enough a-holes and I can only handle so many.

looking at the pics and video. it looks like (assuming that is mask covered up) he is in the seat on the passenger side of the front end of the car. with police unsure of who was driving there is a good chance that he was a passenger
by day1er on Mar 12, 2009 6:12 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Punk Ass from Tapout said he never let anybody drive that car , not even him .. So im guessing unless he was tore up and she wasnt , that would be the only reason she was driving.

A very good thought, but he would have served it better by not racing a car at 100+ mph(my guess based on the car being in pieces) with another person in the car.
Very sad to lose him, but sadder that he wasn’t willing to use his brain in this circumstance. Hope his girlfriend survives.

Yeh, you go Kevin, no longer shall people be held back in saying disrespectful things to people they don’t even know. Your right bombdropper, I am angered that we tried to take away Kevins freedoms of being yet another a-hole, in a long like of them.
You gave him a pat on the back there like he overcame adversity, he’s just an ass. If someone he was close to died in a car wreck, and people here said that about his, or your family member it would be a different story. But Kevin, like you have the pleasure of being indifferent, since you didn’t know “Mask”, so that gives you the right to act like a tool.

I’m shocked at the amount of nasty and disrespectful msg’s… I aint a bible basher but i believe in respect for the dead… Give the guy his props. RIP Mask
by mmamad on Mar 12, 2009 9:45 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I guess some people will only be angered at an idiot racing a car if he kills that very person’s child, brother, mother, wife, husband, etc…
Just to go on record (since everyone feels I’m a dick)…I do feel for his family and friends at this time. I have lost friends in car accidents (some were accidents, some were not). It sucks to lose someone that you are close to because of an accident. It sucks even more to lose someone simply because they were acting like a complete idiot.
Coming from a guy who has lost friends by no fault of their own, and by complete fault of their own…it hurts more to deal with the ones that are completely at fault. Why?…because when someone dies at the hands of another, the deceased couldn’t have done anything to stop it…when the deceased is at fault, they could have prevented it by avoiding the situation in the first place…which they didn’t do.
Anyway, I would like to express my condolences to his family and friends, and I know it sucks.
As for you guys who are shitting on me for not expressing my feelings of remorse for him (i.e. RIP Mask, he was such a good guy, etc…)…I have no reason to. I respect what he accomplished with his life in a business perspective, but that has nothing to do with MMA as far as my respect goes. He could have invented the wheel for all intents and purposes…and my respect for business reason would be the same. But, when someone acts like a selfish, immature, juvenile, brat…and that very self absorbed, dangerous, “I’ll do whatever I want, with no concern for others” attitude is what leads to his demise…..why should I care about him now?
You guys gotta realize (as he obviously didn’t) that you reep what you sow.
I gotta ask you guys…if he would have died, and took a mother and child out on the sidewalk with him…would you all be saying the same? You can be rest assured that I would be. My point being…I don’t look as much about the “results” of people’s actions…I look at their actions…that’s what makes them who they are, and makes them worthy of respect or not. His actions prove that he didn’t respect his family, he didn’t respect his fans (the very ones pointing at me and saying I should show respect back to him), he certainly didn’t respect the fact that he could have killed his passenger or the passengers in the other car, he didn’t respect the law, nor did he respect himself (remember “actions” prove he didn’t). Tell me, why should I respect him again?

I agree with mmamad! show some respect! I grew up in San Luis Obispo and I know Chuck Liddell and I have met Charles the Mask several times. He was a true guy and NEVER talked smack behind other peoples backs unlike some of you pussies. He was never Surly to any one who didn’t have it coming. I hope he wasn’t drinking. At least the girl is ok, he would have wanted it that way. RIP Mask.

If he wanted the girl to be ok, he would have stopped the car, dropped her off, and called her a cab….before he put his foot to the floor.
Actions my friends….actions.

It’s interesting how still, no one can just leave this site for condolence’s. Use another blog to argue back and forth about what he did.
Seriously, the mmajunkie site deleted or told people to leave the site that were even closely coming to saying anything bad about Mask dying. It’s just a matter of respect. Respect the fact that someone has died. Period.
I’m really upset with this site for allowing people to disrespect a dead person who HAS done alot for the mma community. This is supposed to be a site that is for mma fans. This is a petty way of trying to generate traffic for a site.
I know 2 people don’t matter, but my husband and I will never visit this site again.

I’ve had the opportunity to be one of TapouT’s photographers for the past 2 years. All 3 of the partners Mask, PunkAss and Skrape were and are all Great Great guys. In my 18 years as a pro Photographer there is one really memorable time that a client really made me feel Great. That time was about a year ago and TapouT was exhibiting at the clothing convention in Vegas called MAGIC. We were walking through the convention, the film crew was filming and Mask among all the chaos of people wanting autographs came up to me put his hands on my shoulders and told me Kenton, I want you to know you are doing a Great job and I appreciate all your hard work, thank you. I was blown away that among everything that was going on he made it a point to tell me something that really made me understand that he was a caring, considerate and passionate man. He touched people like that daily because he had an outlook on life that was so positive. I will miss his crazy personality and his willingness to welcome strangers as if they were long time friends. Mask, you will never be forgotten. Kenton Pappacostas

Props to Mask. I just found out from my buddy that he had passed away. Tapout was a standup organization that, while making $, always looked to help guys trying to make it. This is a very sad day for MMA. Mask was a hellova guy I met him twice at shows and was never too busy to talk to the common ppl. All u guys talking smack, remember u will also have your day to die and u will have to answer to the man upstairs. Mask was very important to alot of ppl and went out of his way to help those in need. What have u done lately to help someone??? My sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. Skrape and Punkass I hope you guys will find the strength to carry on in honor of Mask and what he represented to the sport of MMA and society in general. RIP MASK WE WILL MISS YOU!!!
