Brendan – truth teller. He’s been there for more than 100 events yet still knows jack $hit about MMA.

Goldie is just bein’ goldie. his the Yang to Joe Rogan’s Yin. Somebody to complement Rogan’s vast knowledge of MMA.

goldberg is the ultimate sidekick. I would like to see hughes go back to his old style of fighting and make one more run. he needs to give up on the standup stick with his gnp and mediocre bjj. he seems to have lost strength with age. but i think he could pull it together and go out with a few wins

that was by far the best video I’ve seen in a long time! Hughes didn’t come off like a dick, and goldie actually sounded knowledgeable. Thanks mania, I really enjoyed that!

kevin i thought the same thing that was a good video. im sure ole twinkle toes is not on the hughes family christmas card list

yeah it was on of the better hughes videos but i think he still came off looking like a prick..i hope serra kills him.
and goldie should sound knowledgable~ he has covered the dang sport for long enough to learn something..
i like goldie~ he has definitely grown on me over the years.. him and rogan are the perfect team..goldie is smart~he just plays his role.
again~ good video..i never knew about the whole picture choke lawsuit~ that really sucks..

Yeah. And I loved the story wherein Forest Griffin was leg kicking these Irish kids. Hehe!

Goldberg is hilarious. He stands there with his legs spread acting tough..

Hughes is delusional thinking he can move up a weight class( hes not even top 5 at ww), and how the crowd didnt urupt in laugher when he suggests he could fight a. silva is beyond me…..the game evolved….hughes didnt

i dont kno why there is so much hate for matt hughes out there. the guy has been one of my favorite fighters for a long time now, and the only person i see bein even close to as dominate as he was is GSP. i’ll always be a big matt huges fan.
by Andrew on Mar 7, 2009 11:34 AM EST reply actions
its a shame that a guy that was at top of the sport for so long is hated. but he brings most of the hate on himself. he comes off as arrogant and condescending most of the time. the real matt hughes (away from fighting and spotlights) is a more likeable guy, but that guy is not seen as much

Matt Hughes is a jerk plain and simple. I guess you have to be Canadain to take it personally when he says shit like “I wont lose to no Canadian”. He says stupid shit that makes him look like an ass.
by Spyder on Mar 7, 2009 1:43 PM EST up reply actions
yeah am in the same boat as u dude i think he’s just a normal guy that loves to fight and keep his roots.
by ruan-fiy on Mar 7, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions
He talked about moving up to fight Silva. I’m shocked there aren’t already several comments talking about how rediculous that is.
by Punch You in the Ovaries on Mar 7, 2009 11:50 AM EST reply actions
yea i cant believe he said that. that fight would be ugly. i would love to see silvas reaction to that.
by day1er on Mar 7, 2009 12:09 PM EST up reply actions
I think it’s the point, no one takes him seriously anymore. I heard the comments and didn’t think twice about them! As far as him bringing the hate upon himself, that is a 100% accurate statement!
by kevin on Mar 7, 2009 12:12 PM EST up reply actions
I think that was just for show. Theres no way he would even have a chance!

day1er great point with lost strength cause i think the same too. There were a bunch of fighters that relied on strength more than technique and they are really starting to look bad now. I mean look at ken shamrock he was a great fighter back in the days and now he is nobody because he always won with brute strength and never even bothered to catch up on technique.Matt Hughes’ is the same way and Tito Ortiz just to name a few.

I don’t think Matt Hughes failed to evolve or tries to do stand up too much….. He couldn’t take GSP down, and he just took a mauling at the hands of Alves who didn’t bother to cut those last 4 lbs.
I would argue that Hughes evolved a lot. And that his track record shows a shit ton of submissions, and a lot of decisions. Which tells me he knows his bread and butter, and doesn’t feel the need to Josh Koscheck or (new)Sean Sherk his way to mediocrity.
Hughes is still a top 5 WW because he can still beat most of the guys in the UFC, and he could go to any other federation and own their top guy(s) He’s going to walk through Matt Serra, and then who knows. His main problem is that the top dog at 170 treats him like a kid who brought home a bad report card. Hughes is sorta like Rich Franklin….. they should hang out.
by Mikey Gilz on Mar 7, 2009 12:05 PM EST reply actions
they do hang out… lol good post though, very knowledgable and good points all around, its not like hughes is ken shamrock, hes only lost to GSP and Alves in the last couple of years so thats nothing to be ashamed of

Well done. Great interview. I’d like to see more videos giving a more intimate picture of the fighters.

I know what you mean, but the way you wrote it sounded a bit gay…reread it and laugh with me!

Matt Hughes should ask Rich Franlklin what doctor he used to perfom his (two) broken nose procedures and schedule an appointment directly after he fight Anderson Silva. Matt could then fight for Affliction with Tim Sylvia.
by realfan on Mar 7, 2009 1:28 PM EST reply actions
No that was true. If you belive for one second that Matt Hughes could compete with a bigger and more talented ALL AROUND athlete like Anderson Silva then my friend, you are mistaken!

does anyone have a good site that streams tonites ppv?

Fight I’d love to see at ww is him and Koscheck. I’ve been sayin that for dunno how long
Both are great wrestlers with good cardio. It’d be great to see what Hughes would try to implement
We know Kos believes inhis stand up already

Yeah Frank back in the UFC would be interesting… Doubt it’ll happen though
by ognitinoc on Mar 7, 2009 2:55 PM EST reply actions
I think Hughes is done IMO. Hughes should hang it up after fighting serra, he looked horrible in his last two fights, like he didn’t have a chance. Bumping up to 185 is laughable, gsp, alves are too much for him and I bet fitch and koscheck would be too. Most people think gsp has no chance with silva, how the hell would he have a chance, give it up hughes, move on to your farm and hunting and your 9 belts.
by nathan on Mar 7, 2009 4:43 PM EST reply actions
He looked bad in his fight with lytle even though he won I might add.
by nathan on Mar 7, 2009 4:44 PM EST reply actions
Please retire, Matt hughes an example of a old mma fighter. He is not even that old and he can’t beat half of the guy’s in the welterweight divison.
Hughes VS Silva?
Hughes has the most retarded ego in the world.

I checked Dershog, and I didn’t see any Sherk fight in Trigg’s history. I think it was another of Goldie’s charcteristic brain farts.

I thought the Phil Baroni comment at the beginning was the funniest part of the whole interview. I’ve never been a Hughes fan, but I don’t hate him. I can’t stand Baroni. He gives all of us NYers a bad name. I’m glad he never pulled it all together and became a superstar, because I couldn’t bear to see him running his mouth 24/7.
by --utaptout-- on Mar 7, 2009 8:08 PM EST reply actions
I watched it again and a few people did laugh when he said he would consider bumping up to fight silva LMAO!! Alves made him look bad can you imagine him and silva? How the hell does he think he would deserve such a shot? He might not even be top 5 in the welter weight division and he wants a shot at a guy who is heads and shoulders about anyone in his division, even more so than gsp in his? Blind arrogance.
by nathan on Mar 7, 2009 10:43 PM EST reply actions
Frank Shamrock vs Matt Hughes would be nice. I think it would probably just go decision. Frank has better stand up and submission, matt has much better wrestling so my guess is a 3 round ground war ending in decision. Both are great though
