Stefan Struve tapped to face Denis Stojnic at UFC 99 in Germany

The card for UFC 99 continues to come together with the addition of Stefan Struve and Denis Stojnic, set to do battle from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany on June 13 according to Fighters Only Magazine.
The 20-year-old Struve recently signed a four-fight contract with the organization, earning his opportunity to compete on the biggest stage in mixed martial arts with an impressive five-fight win streak in 2008 — all of which came via submission.
Unfortunately he received a rude welcome from the surging Junior dos Santos, who clobbered "The Skyscraper" into a first round TKO loss at UFC 95. Still, the talented Hollander holds notable victories over former UFC veterans Colin Robinson and Mario Neto and is a viable threat, having ended 12 of his 16 wins via submission.
Standing in his way is Denis Stojnic, also 0-1 in the UFC after making making his debut for the promotion at UFC Fight Night 17 last month.
The Sarajevo native was smashed by blue chip heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez in his first mixed martial arts appearance stateside. "The Menace" has competed throughout Europe during his career, including a decision win against Hakim Gouram at "Beast of the East" back in May 2008.
This is a must-win situation for both fighters, as 0-2 is a place you don't want to be under the Zuffa umbrella.
UFC 99 is expected to be headlined by former middleweight champion Rich "Ace" Franklin taking on ex-PRIDE smashing machine Wanderlei Silva in his middleweight debut. Heath Herring and Cain Velasquez as well as Mike Swick and Ben Saunders are also expected to hook ‘em up.

why are these two coming back, neither one showed anything in their respective fights. Struve showed absolutely nothing. Stojnic showed a phenomenal chin and a habit of loading up and throwing wild overhands. Waste of time.

I think Struve has a lot of potential once he fills out a bit. But at only 20 I think the UFC might be bringing him in too early. It would probably be better to give him a couple more years to put on some size and actually be able to compete in the HW division. I look forward to big things from him in the future, but I think that’s a few years away.

I actually liked Stojnic. I thought the fight with Cain was stopped way early. That dude has a fuckin’ granite chin and a big right hand that nearly missed Cain a couple different times. I dont see this guy being TKoed ever again.

so you want him to be around the UFC for all the hard work he’s put into perfecting his chin skill?? He’s a tough guy and a heavyweight so he’s gonna hit hard, but he does not belong at this point. He does nothing to help the division and he’s gonna get worked by better fighters in the UFC. He needs to fight in smaller shows and develop his technique.

I thought he stood his ground fairly well against a guy (Cain) that was suppose to win. I would like to see him fight a few more times before I would say he doesn’t belong.

I havent seen enough of either fighter to comment on whether I think that they belong in the UFC or not at the present moment.
What I do know is that at the age of 20, struve has potential….and Stojnik is a very tough guy…dude hits hard! I dont mind seeing him fight on european cards

Prior to his MMA career, it appears Struve must have been a member of the Vienna Boys Chior.

shit, looking at those pics makes it look like a david versus goliath fight. hard to believe by those pics that they are in the same weight class. i got skinny non-tanned dude.

Poor Struve, Dennis is going to sit on him. Jk. I think Denis is going to knock this kid out! This kid seemed waaaaaaaaaay to skinny to hang with the BIG heavyweights of the UFC. He tumbledd over to easy when Dos Santos hit him. Granted. DOs Santos obviously has power, but then again, so will most of the UFC heavyweights that hit this kid!

Not the Denis showed me anything other than a ugly spinning backfist agaisnt Velasquez, but he will be too much for Struve who showed even less against Dos Santos! Give me Cain vs Dos Santos, thats what i want to see!!!

I agree. so the UFC signs Struve to a 4 fight contract, but they release Clementi??
Cain vs. Dos Santos would be a good match up.

I want to see Carwin vs Dos Santos at some point. Two of the hardest hitters in that division slugging it out… awesome.
by Hero-Of-Time on Mar 4, 2009 1:08 PM EST up reply actions
carwin woulda put struve into next month with 1 punch, dos santos had to hit him a lot to finish him..
i’d say dos santos is the houston alexander of the heavyweight division

you think Carwin is a better striker than Dos Santos? are you kidding me.. Dos Santos would put Shane Carwin’s overrated striking and his HGH head away..
by RoB on Mar 4, 2009 1:31 PM EST up reply actions
Dos Santos is now Houston Alexander? Randy had a liquid lunch today.
by FukStyck on Mar 4, 2009 1:37 PM EST up reply actions
bj penn?.. Dos Santos is no Houston Alexander, he can actually deliver punches from outside of the clinch.. and he punches like a monster!
by RoB on Mar 4, 2009 2:08 PM EST up reply actions
it was a crack at the HGH comment.. and honestly you’ll see he just throws hard punches when he fights someone talented
by randy murders on Mar 4, 2009 2:17 PM EST up reply actions
ok, he’s still a better striker than Carwin.. maybe not the best defense, but he’s got good timing..

wow i think i could take the skinny guy on the left.

Stojnic will land one of those crazy eyes closed overhand right and knock out the kid.
by FukStyck on Mar 4, 2009 1:36 PM EST reply actions
man, you guys are hating way too early. struve is only 20…i see him at some point being released by the UFC only to be brought back a few years later and 35 pounds heavier.
stojnic is hard to call. however, keep in mind both of them fought surging up and comers in their debuts.
by JB on Mar 4, 2009 1:58 PM EST reply actions
Wow the kid looks small compared to the other guy but I dont really know either of these guys!!
by Hispanic Panic on Mar 4, 2009 2:08 PM EST reply actions
Looks small in the pic, but hes like 6’8 or something ridiculous like that
by Daaaaaave on Mar 4, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions
Skinny guy vs. fat guy….don’t know much about either so I have no clue who would win. That being said, I notice fat guys don’t do very well cause their cardio isn’t good usually. If the match ends early, fat guy, if it goes into later rounds, skinny guy wins.
lol

Stojnic is going to stuff this kid in a mayo jar. no way struve wins this fight.
by bushswinger on Mar 4, 2009 7:21 PM EST reply actions
Struve looks like a kid going to jail for the first time…eeeeeekkk watch out kid!!………2 words….poo blood…
by jintao on Mar 4, 2009 7:57 PM EST reply actions
Why are they even allowing Stojnic to fight again? It looked like he had no training at all in his fight with Cain.
