UFC 99 tickets for 'The Comeback' at LANXESS Arena in Cologne, Germany, on June 13 on sale soon

With a shiny new television deal in place, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) today made its next trip overseas -- and first-ever to the "Fatherland" -- official today.

As expected, former middleweight champion Rich "Ace" Franklin will indeed headline UFC 99: "The Comeback" opposite ex-PRIDE smashing machine Wanderlei Silva in a special 195-pound catchweight bout from the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, on June 13.

Lightweight champion BJ Penn was expected to defend his 155-pound title against number one division contender, Kenny Florian, before deciding that he preferred more time between fights.

Here's a snip from company president, Dana White, on the announcement:

"We are coming with a stacked card and a unique main event. Rich Franklin v Wanderlei Silva is another of those dream fights fans never thought they’d get to see - but we are making it happen in Germany…. Everyone knows Rich moved up to light heavyweight a couple of fights ago while Wanderlei is planning on fighting at 185 pounds from now on, but this fight is too exciting a match not to happen and both these guys deserve a ton of credit for taking this fight at 195 pounds."

Tickets for UFC 99 are scheduled to go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 13. UFC Fight Club members and UFC Newsletter subscribers, naturally, will be able to scoop up tickets for the big show prior to them being available for public consumption.

Here is the UFC 99 tickets sales schedule:

UFC Fight Club presale: Monday, March 9
UFC Newsletter presale: Wednesday, March 11
General tickets sale: Friday, March 13

UFC 99 tickets can be purchased through StubHub.com (Note: StubHub often has seats available even if the event is "sold out").

Dream fight? i dont know anyone that has ever thought about matching these two up. it will be exciting i’m sure, but dream fight…no. too bad bj didn’t want to fight on this card, would have been great. august looks to be stacking up quick with randy/nog and penn/florian though

by neihrick on Mar 3, 2009 11:14 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Im a very surprised at how good of a fight card the German fans are being treated to. THis card is better than most British cards and it DWARFS the cards they have produced in Ireland!

I am very much looking forward to this event. Cain vs. Herring is like Gonzaga/Carwin, a great fight that will truly show us what level Cain is on.

Ben Saunders will have his coming out party by destroying mike Swick and moving into the upper echelon of the welterweight division.

Hardy vs. Davis is a fight I am drooling over and Fisher/Uno is also badass!

nEWS FLASH***

Dos Santos wants KONGO!!!!

“I think it would be an interesting fight against him (Kongo), hes very strong, but doesnt know a thing on the ground, hes pretty weak. I think we would do a great fight standing, very aggressive, and Id be better than him on the ground, easily.”

I think that this match up needs to happen. It would be the most entertaining fight possible involving both fighters…Watching those 2 stand n bang would be awesome!

Paul taylor is a very exciting welterweight. He will fight on this card but no opponent is yet mentioned.

Who could he possibly fight at UFC 99? any suggestions?
In a perfect world the UFC would sign Semtex and have:
Taylor vs. Semtex….but that wont happen!

who is a possible opponent for this card?

Paulo THiago? YOshida? Stun Gun? GOno?

any good idea’s out there?

If Drago gets a quick Ko over brown I would love to see Drago vs. Paul Taylor!

I think they know that they have to do something special when they’re coming into Germany for the first time for it to be a succes, and make the UFC some new fans.. there are so many other popular sports there and i don’t know if MMA fans even exists in Germany yet, the Klitschko brothers and boxing is huge in Deutschland..

two more fights have been added to UFC 99 (kind of):

(HW)Stefan Struve vs. TBA
(WW)Paul Taylor vs. TBA

paul taylor dropped to LW i dont think he will be fighting that soon.

did he? great move on his part. Thanks for the info!

by john on Mar 3, 2009 7:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

so is kenflo/pen and couture/nog on the same card?
yea this fight makes no sense to me,i think franklin will make wandy 1-3!

I might go to this. I don’t know. I want to go on one this summer sometime, and I’m stuck between 98 and 99 right now, as 100 is uncertain now.

by Synyster on Mar 3, 2009 11:18 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

great fight but imo it shouldn’t be a main event

by McArthur on Mar 3, 2009 11:23 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

i think it will be a great fight but i kinda agree with you it should be a co main event they need another big fight on there, all the other fights are solid but one more big one will really make this a good card.

by roy on Mar 3, 2009 11:30 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

What!!!! You’re joking right? Wandy is a legend in this sport and so is Rich. You’re crazy. This is going to be a great fight.

by Sp00ner1234 on Mar 3, 2009 11:35 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not joking….its a great fight, no doubt about it but imo EVERY card should have a title fight OR a number 1 contender match

by McArthur on Mar 3, 2009 12:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well… yeah thatd be nice but its not going to happen, all these champions love their time off… ufc 95 and 96= no title shots… who knows when BJ penn will fight again, if ever…

by brendan on Mar 3, 2009 12:45 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ya I agree…its a great card and I will buy it but I’m just sayin….wouldn’t it be nice if….

by McArthur on Mar 3, 2009 1:10 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This is sort of a top contender match. Its not like either of them are gatekeepers. Just because its at a catch weight doesn’t mean that anyone challenging the MW title won’t have to go through them first.

yes it would mcarthur.i was hoping the rumors would be true with couture and crocop but as always no.lol

Two LOSERS (as in lost their last fight) HEADLINING a event?

What a complete joke, i hope nobody buys this cráp so that ufc gets their shít together and put together better cards.
They have become so greedy now its pretty sickening.

by Lester the Pimp on Mar 3, 2009 11:33 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Hence the name, “Comeback”. Two LEGENDS is more like it. I’m embarassed how quickly American fans throw fighters under the bus. Rich Franklin loses a split decision to Dan frickin Henderson and all of a sudden he’s a loser. And that Rampage guy is a can. I can’t believe Silva lost to him. He’s a loser too.

by wAyNe on Mar 3, 2009 1:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Im with you man. Two guys enter every single match…. its impossible for anything but 50% of the fighters on a card to lose a match. I can’t believe how fickle these people get sometimes

by Lester the Pimp on Mar 3, 2009 11:34 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

You think Franklin and Wandy are jokes? Both are solid fighters, so fighters have to win their last fight to be worthy of main event status? Doesn’t make much sense to me, great fight! Hey guys what do you think about that….

by Robert(1) on Mar 3, 2009 11:44 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

come on lester, this is a great match up… and the rest of the card is solid, its leaps and bounds above ufc 95 and 96!

by brendan on Mar 3, 2009 12:46 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree…but if Wand would’ve beaten Page and RIch beaten Hendo, we wouldn’t be seeing this match anyways

by McArthur on Mar 3, 2009 1:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Joke?? are you kidding?? Did you think Stevenson/Sanchez was a legit main event?? now that was a joke!!!! Wandy and Franklin could be considered a super fight in my eyes. Losers, whatever dude I still think Franklin deserved the decision over Hendo.

by the spyder on Mar 3, 2009 1:29 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

That was a a great card though. Every fight that night was great and we got to see all but 1.

i also thnk franklin won the dec over hendo to.95 was a great card.96 is sort of a toss up in my eyes i am only looking forward to carwin/gonzaga,maynard/miller thats it oh and jardine winning big;).

hard to win a fight when you lose the first 2 out 3 rnds…out of curiousity, which of the 1st or 2nd rnd would you give to Rich so I can go back and watch it again?

by McArthur on Mar 3, 2009 3:42 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

agreed McArthur.. rich just won the 3rd round but i was upset with the eye poke.. i am sure that Ace was going to finish hendo before that “accident”

by JoW on Mar 3, 2009 4:51 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

well maybe he didnt win but im a bigger rich fan then hendo.i didnt get to watch it again.didnt rich win the 1st?

by NM on Mar 3, 2009 7:01 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I also had Franklin winning that fight. Kind of makes you wonder with Franklin expressing his dis-interest in coaching TUF.

by sooper822 on Mar 3, 2009 11:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think if that fight had been 5 rounds, Rich Franklin woulda beat Henderson.

Henderson looked like he was running out of stream, Franklin looked like he was finally warmed up.

Is anybody upset that BJ needs more time….I mean how much time do you need? He is always saying that he is a fighter first well take off a month and start training again….he will still have all of of April and May that’s 2 months! This is coming from a BJ fan so I’m not hater. Anyway good solid card. I just watched Rich vs Hendo again…I think Wandy should bum rush him like he did Jardine if not I see Rich staying on the outside and winning a boring fight.

by Robert(1) on Mar 3, 2009 11:41 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

his athletic ability is limited.. and it’s been surprising that he’s been fighting as many as he has over the last year, it wasn’t too long ago he said he was getting burned out by training too much, so no i was expecting this to happen..

Seems like the ufc is having a hard time putting on huge main events. Look at the upcoming ppvs
Ufc 96 – does keith jardine really belong in the main event of a ppv? He got ktfo by silva and squeaked out a decision against vera. I don’t think he does

Ufc 97 – no way thales leites should be in the main event, he doesn’t deserve the shot. At least liddell is on the card from a marketing standpoint

Ufc 99 – franklin just lost a close spit decision to Henderson but he’s definitely not at the top of the lhw division by any means. Silva is 2 for 3 in the his ufc appearances and got destroyed in his last fite.

I think this card is more just to build up the Europe market than anything. Given the tape delay its on I don’t think the ufc cares a ton about the US ppv buys on this one

by bobby o'shea on Mar 3, 2009 12:17 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Solid card, but not one id pay $55 for

by bobby o'shea on Mar 3, 2009 12:18 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

“and both these guys deserve a ton of credit for taking this fight at 195 pounds."”

by credit they mean money.

And the only people on this card making a “comeback” are Caol Uno and Wandy. And I suppose to a lesser extent, Al Turk.

I dont see how this will be a comeback for Wandy unless he stops throwing those ugly hooks every encounter hoping for the flash KO.

by DirtyML on Mar 3, 2009 12:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

It’s called the “Comeback” that’s why there are 2 losers headlining it…..SMH

Not every card needs to have a title fight or a number 1 contender fight…why aren’t people happy to have top level MMA available all the time…the UFC is working hard to keep up with the demand for events…show after show after show…everyone wants a stacked card, but the past has shown us that the “weaker” (hate to say that) cards produced more entertainment and usually better fights…be happy the UFC is bringing us Wandy vs Franklin and not Shamrock vs Grizzly Fat Ass or Tank or Sylvia vs Mercer….

by Fiend on Mar 3, 2009 12:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Agree 100% but I can’t get excitied over Jardine vs Jackson….. I guess I’m getting spoiled.

So far I’m interested in seeing all the possible fights listed. I think Crocop is fighting on here (maybe), but he doesn’t have an opponent yet.

I honestly dont like the job that joe silva is doing. He sets people up he doesnt like for failure. Josh koscheck putting him up against a nobody. Fabricio werdum, anthony johnson. The last good card i actually seen was the ultimate. You gotta know what style’s make good fights. Not putting karo and don against each other to see who the best judo fighter is. The skill cancels eachother out. Ufc 95 crappy main event, 96 crappy 97 crappy, 98 good, 99 crappy, 100 good. I not saying every main event should be a title fight. But there is 5 division and there should be a title fight or a top contender fight every card. Jackson vs jardine haha jardine not a contender. I would rather see a superfight at 205 for silva then another nobody.
