Frank Shamrock: Ken Shamrock cut himself to escape fight with Kimbo Slice

Props: Five Ounces of Pain
Quoteworthy:
I think Ken cut himself. It goes back to his giant ego and not being smart enough to understand the rest of the business. I think he got upset because Kimbo was making twice as much as he was and I don’t think his ego could take it. I know for a fact that he tried to hold the network up for more money the day before the show and unfortunately his parting words were, "Well, then you never know what will happen because anything can happen." Then when he showed up with the cut we all thought he juiced himself. You know, he’s not to be trusted ... a real fighter would have superglued it and put makeup on it and been and would have been out there fighting. Which (is something) I have done and many fighters have done many times ... I have no idea what he’s doing. I just hope when he’s finished destroying himself that he has something left to live by.
-Former Strikeforce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock comments to Sam Caplan on brother Ken's last-minute withdrawal from his EliteXC main event fight against Kimbo Slice last October due to (a possible self-inflicted) cut sustained hours for the bout. Frank — who had not been training for a fight and competes at 185 pounds — volunteered to fight the much larger Slice on two hours notice. Unfortunately CBS executives reportedly nixed the idea and opted to go with Seth Petruzelli instead. The rest, as "they" say is history. Despite moments of civility, the adopted and quasi-estranged brothers are back on bad terms following the illness of their father Bob. Family Feud, MMA style. I guess Frank never heard the expression “Brotherly Love”?

Strikeforce needs to go ahead and capitalize on this. Shamrock Vs. Shamrock… Frank by way of First Round KO!

The sibling rivalry storyline will sell big, and thats all they care about. Its a smart business move. Ken can’t sell a fight without a story cuz he has no talent. There’s no way Ken should be in the same cage as Frank.

This back and forth is getting so old. How is it that two irrelevant fighters can generate some remote interest with their same old schtick.
by NameNotRequired on Feb 26, 2009 10:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not saying it should be a Main event but its definately a fight I’d watch over some of the fights they put on.
by BK on Feb 26, 2009 10:47 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ken is old and should retire, but I wouldn’t call Frank irrelevant!
Frank is a talented fighter and probably still top 10 185! C’mon, everyone believes Cung Le should fight Anderson Silva, but Frank put up a solid fight with Cung le and Frank’s Ego wouldn’t allow him to take him down which he probably could of done…

i guess they really don’t like each other

“I just hope when he’s finished destroying himself that he has something left to live by.”
Harsh words from Frank…I just have to say I dont care for either of these guys they just act like complete egotistical maniacs…they should both fight each other and get it over with. So then they can both retire…Ken is washed up and Frank just looks for small competition…so I dont think Frank has that much room to talk. Like he’s never juiced up before
psshhh whatever I guess!

WTF? Ken’s such a loser! If this is the case, then why didn’t he cut himself during the Tito Ortiz fights?
by Syd[a.k.a."the Negation"] on Feb 26, 2009 10:34 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Tito’s elbows took care of that pretty quickly.

And with this, Frank shows us one more time his low class. But what else can he show us these days anyways?

Frank is a real piece of Crap! Even if what he is saying is true, how do you totally throw your brother under the bus?
Did you guys even hear what Frank said about the Cung Le fight? He basically said that he let Cung win. He said “I know what my roll is….I am an entertainer. NObody at cbs wanted to see me go out there and submit Cung Le in the 1st minute of the fight!”
What a piece of tRASH!!! Completely diminishing the biggest win of cung’s career. IMO, he is easily the biggest Douchbag in the sport!

I took that statement that he made about cung le less harshley than you did. I think what he meant was he knew everyone wanted to see an exciting match on the feet. And that is what we got. I honestly think he could have very easily taken cung le down and submit him, and now he feels like an idiot for not doing so. But yeah I think that he feels he could have won that fight, but I don’t think he is saying he gave it away to cung le.

Dude, these two have “reality Show” written all over them. I know I’d watch. These guys are great to laugh at.

I agree. We need some sort of MMA Douchebag All-Stars reality series. Frank would be in there. So would Karo and War Machine. Maybe Guillard and JT Money too.
by PW on Feb 27, 2009 10:21 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I wonder what they could call it? “Tool Academy” is already taken.

Is that what Frank has to resort to, to draw heat and hype for the fight between him and Diaz?
Pathetic little sound bite machine.

I woulda rather had seen an unprepared Frank fight Kimbo on two hours notice…. that would have been interesting.
by yoshi on Feb 26, 2009 10:52 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Frank would have destroyed Kimbo.

who cares …about…….these…… (fell asleep)……

I don’t think Ken cut himself. Frank is just being an A-hole and is just trying to create publicty for himself.
by ProKev on Feb 26, 2009 11:20 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
They should have their own reality show – Irrelevant Fighter.
Also, Frank is a jerk.

Frank is not even a legend I dont know why he calls himself that, ken is a legend though his just to old now

frank is a decent fighter in my books, that cung le fight was aright. wish they woulda actually fought more instead of winking and hugging for half the fight but ya, ken is a washed up moron that i think is totally capable of what frank is accusing him of. that being said, frank isnt the most mentally stable cat around either. smells like days of our lives.

Ok i have had enough of frank shamrock talkin shit. I dare him to sign with the ufc , if dana will let him, because seriously what top fighter could he beat at middleweight, no one. Hell half the welterweight would knock his ass out. Ken shamrock is a legend and he isn’t and that pisses him off.Ken has far surpassed his career, but i look at his prime and real career. Frank may be a legend of elitexc but he isn’t a legend of mma, so shut the hell up because your bro accomplished more than you ever will.
by LG on Feb 27, 2009 12:37 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
p.s. frank was one of the original ufc champs, that alone makes him a semi-legend. and p.s.s. ken looks ripped in that pic
by JakeAnd on Feb 27, 2009 12:38 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
p.s.s.s. itd be nice if there was no delay in my posts, thus makin my multiple p.s.’s not make any sense whatsoever

They both are retarted. Let them fight so they can both retire

Must be shitty getting called out by a guy with adult braces and 4th grade reading who freely admits to wearing make-up.
kick his ass ken, show him what grandpa does when he gets angry.

WOW’’’ Frank will never cease to stoop as low as possible when it concerns his Stepbrother Ken,, Frank must really hold a lot of animosity towards him.

Two has-beens trying their press whore routines. Meh.
by TJ on Feb 27, 2009 3:04 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
He looked far from being a has-been im the Phil Baroni fight, I do not see how anybody could not have been impressed with that. Do not comment if you haven’t watched it.

Shamrock “Pay me as fat as Kimbo or I sink your promotion”
Skala. “eat me”
Shamrock wins by Petrucelli.

Thats pretty much how it went. lol. EXC went down, but so did Shamrock’s rep.

you should all assume we are now seeing very well orchestrated pre-fight announcement hype……

did frank just say someone else had a huge ego? Did they fight at that group home or whatever? This is build up for their fight. Frank beats Diaz, Ken kills Tank then they fight eachother
by hatteras on Feb 27, 2009 8:35 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I hope Tank knocks that old son of a bitch out!!!

You stay classy Frank…I have to say that if the two Shamrocks do fight, this is the one time I hope that they copy the WWE and have a retirement match where the loser retires. Either way we’ll be less one Shamrock.

These guys need to get some Jesus and hug it out.

I can feel the love lol!!! I hope they end up fighting each other, Frank is 10 times the fighter Ken is and I think would dismantle him easily.
by Spyder on Feb 27, 2009 11:25 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I thought that the second i heard that the fight was scratched due to a cut over Shamrock’s eye. I couldnt beleive it, well i guess it wasnt much of a suprise. Why is Frank bringing up such old news anyways?
by belfort_fan on Feb 27, 2009 11:59 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I’m tried of hearing that Frank Shamrock is a Nobody! In the course of his career he has accomplished a lot
- 1st UFC LHW Champ – Defended his title 4 times! (How many times did Rampage defend?)
- Beaten Bas Rutten,
- Beaten Vernon White
- Beaten Tito Ortiz
- Beaten Caesar Gracie
- Beaten Phil Baroni
Keep in mind he walked away from the title, so he has never had a loss at LHW once he got the title. Fairly impressive resume and he didn’t look bad against Cung Lee. He could have taken him down and submitted him but he thought he could hang with the standup and he was wrong. He would win in a rematch.
by SDMMA on Feb 27, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
OK your pushing it with Baroni, anyone could beat him!!!
by the spyder on Feb 27, 2009 5:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
OK, Your right… Baroni is pushing it LOL.
by SDMMA on Feb 28, 2009 2:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Those were very harsh words from Frank true or not no respect at all for Ken. Who knows why. Frank was his younger brother at that group home or whatever. It is strange two guys from that place became awesome fighters. Ken was great he beat Bas Rutten twice he beat Severen, was the first champ yat yata.
Frank was a UFC champ and has wins over Tito and Jeremy Horn, those are his most recognizeable wins. He hasn’t lost much though. He has beaten a host of decent but not top competition because he left the UFC. If he beats Diaz and he will and Ken KO’s Tank get ready for this match up.
by hatteras on Feb 27, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Ken Shamrock VS. Tank Abott is a joke, I cant believe someone would even make this fight happen…….Its a disgrace to MMA, PERIOD!!!!!!
by the spyder on Feb 27, 2009 5:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Frank is going to destroy Diaz, his boxing is on a different level (Actual Power) and he can defend Diaz’s subs…
It’s unfortunate that due to his beef with Dana we won’t see him in the UFC because he could beat a lot of guys at 185, excluding Marquardt and Silva. I think Cote would be a good test for Frank though…
