It is a pleasure to watch Maia compete and he is a classy guy. Quickly has become one of my favorite fighters in the sport!

I like Dan Hardy as well. Interesting that Marcus Davis has called out Hardy! Hardy wont back down from anyone. THis is a match up that Joe Silva should book!

by john on Feb 22, 2009 11:14 AM EST reply actions

That would be an excellent stand up war. Make it happen Joe Silva, please make it happen. And Maia needs to have a title shot because he’ll be Anderson Silva’s biggest challenge to date and it will really prove if he’s the best the ufc has to offer. Silva has beaten wrestlers, strikers and well rounded fighters, he has yet to be challenged by someone with Maia’s skills.

by Budgell on Feb 22, 2009 12:18 PM EST up reply actions

As much as I would like to see Marquardt or Maia fight for the title, Okami is past due. I think Maia and Marquardt should fight for number 1 contender status while Okami fights the winner of Leites/Silva.

by c-war on Feb 22, 2009 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

I agree with you completely but let’s be realistic. Is the ufc really going to give this guy a title shot anytime soon? His last fight was on the undercard and the ufc has basically labeled him as boring. They’re looking for any excuse to not give him the title shot and unless the ufc is going to Japan I think he’ll get his well deserved title shot anytime soon. So with that being said I think we will see Silva vs Marquardt or Silva vs Maia long before we ever see Silva vs Okami.

by Budgell on Feb 22, 2009 12:48 PM EST up reply actions

Okami hasn’t beat one top 10 fighter. The DQ over Silva doesn’t count.

by brandongk4 on Feb 22, 2009 3:00 PM EST up reply actions

there arent really any top ten fighters at 185 though… hes beaten everyone they put in front of him, aside from the sparring match with rich franklin which could have gone either way in my opinion…

by brendan on Feb 22, 2009 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

You could consider Swick a top ten MW at the time he beat him, besides that he has beaten everyone, and the fight with Franklin was razor thin.

by c-war on Feb 22, 2009 3:41 PM EST up reply actions

I want Wanderlei to back out of the Franklin fight and face Marquardt instead!

by john on Feb 22, 2009 4:30 PM EST up reply actions

Makes sense. Aside from Anderson Silva’s dominance, the next rung of 6-8 MW contenders makes the division incredibely interesting. Kind of strange, but the most intriguing possibilities right now aren’t potential title fights.

by CL on Feb 22, 2009 4:59 PM EST up reply actions

Marquardt baby! He wont be denied, give him Maia….I’m pulling for Lates and believe he can truly pull it off!

by Rashad-Marquardt-GSP-Sherk on Feb 22, 2009 12:56 PM EST up reply actions

I’d really like to see Hardy and Rumble fight. A win would launch either fighter into the bigger fights with contenders.

by Hero-Of-Time on Feb 22, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

Ya Maia is really great fighter- But i just can’t help but feel that he should fight someone with equal or atleast a bit close to his ground skills as himself. As for a title Shot Dana white said that if bisping wins against Hendo he gets a title shot first which would be the death of Bisping so i don’t know if he’ll actually get it or not. but I believe Maia future fights should be

Maia vs Almeida
Maia vs Nat (i believe nate will KO him)
Maia vs Leites

anyone of these fights would be great to watch and if he can get through anyone of these guys he should get a title shot

by ricky on Feb 22, 2009 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

I was very impressed with maia but i also think that he maybe not quite ready for a. silva. None the less that was a beautiful display of bjj last night.

Dan Hardy needs to introduce his haircut to 2009..

my mate does his hair. just thought that id throw that in there, not like anyone gives a shit, but there you go.

by Insain on Feb 22, 2009 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

hardy is a kool ass Brit! Im from the USA but he is someone I would enjoy partying with! dude is nuts!

by john on Feb 22, 2009 5:40 PM EST up reply actions

I am kinda surprised that Davis would want to fight Hardy. Nothing against Hardy, but I would think that Davis would want to fight someone higher up the food chain. I would also expect him to be sick of fighting English fighters in England. haha

by naturalshadow on Feb 23, 2009 1:40 AM EST up reply actions

Joe haha next time someone backpedals and you run him down, maybe you should throw something when you’re infront of him.. he ran him down got punished, ran him down got punished, ran him down got punished for 15 minutes without doing anything to win the fight or mix things up… he doesn’t wanna fight, he doesn’t know how to fight and i think he was scared of Diego thinking that he would get points for acting like he tried to do something to win which was running around and waiting to get hit..

by RoB on Feb 22, 2009 11:25 AM EST reply actions

great night of fights, dan hardy is impressive but once he starts talking i wish some one would KO the guy. Maia is nuts i want to see him and phalares(sp) go at it. junior do santos again looked like an animal, but these fights, kinda like fight night for the troops looked like some mismatches. the look on koschecks face was priceless, i bet he’ll take a little more time in between fights now.

by Blazy J on Feb 22, 2009 11:26 AM EST reply actions

Nate the Great will not look so great in a rematch with Anderson Silva- Marquardt has no chance.

by mattyd on Feb 22, 2009 11:44 AM EST reply actions

I be to differ my friend, I think he has better chance than Leites who is going to get bitch slapped into next week.

by Bigmcmac on Feb 22, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions

I have to agree with you on that. Marquardt has looked great but he won’t be able to beat Silva, ever.

by Budgell on Feb 22, 2009 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

Marquardt won round 1 against the Spider, and he has improved greatly since then, so it’s definitely possible.

by c-war on Feb 22, 2009 12:37 PM EST up reply actions

lol how could he have won round 1 if he was stopped in round 1? Ya he was “winning” the round but that always happens with Silva. Lutter won round 1, Henderson won round 1, it happens to Silva often.

by Budgell on Feb 22, 2009 12:55 PM EST up reply actions

Nate would take the next fight with Silva , Quardt is just a different fighter then he was back then , he came in real light in his Silva fight which prolly means he either over trained or he tried too come in light and be the quicker …

Now hes a huge middleweight that has been on a absolute tear since that fight 7-7-07 with Silva. He looks good everywhere , standing , clinch , on the ground .. Nate is a beast now and would cause A.Silva all kinds of probs that hes never faced..

This is how I look at it , Nate would destroy Cote who just did fairly decent against Silva , he didnt win any rounds but he did hang in there.

by dayzah on Feb 22, 2009 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

When somebody does finally beat Anderson(or he retires) that middleweight division is going to have a new champ almost every title defense for a while until another dominant fighter comes along, like what 205 is going through right now. I just want to see Anderson break the record for most title defenses (fucking idiot Lutter).

by fleet on Feb 23, 2009 1:41 AM EST up reply actions

nate, hendo, franklin, bisbing, wandy, maia, could all be middle weight champ if silva wasn’t just so damn good.

by Blazy J on Feb 22, 2009 12:24 PM EST reply actions

kos got robbed man he was definatly on queer street but i mean the ref came from the other side of the ring and jumped in without assesing the situation i mean i dont wanna see a late stoppage but he got clipped and then that was it pretty lame

by xero on Feb 22, 2009 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Marquardt didn’t win the first round against the spider he was tko’d

by Merts on Feb 22, 2009 12:50 PM EST reply actions

Miai will probably have to fight Thales after he loses to Anderson. If Miai beats him he will face Anderson. Nate and Miai might fight…either way Miai is not going to get a title shot he will have at least one more fight first.

by hatteras on Feb 22, 2009 1:15 PM EST reply actions

A.silva is my favorite guy nates name will be nate the retarded marquardt.
And yes there were miss matches and yes I would like to see hardy and davis but I pick davis in that 1 mas experience hardy is a little to cooky his next fight should be against sean shrek good night of fights thought.

Amor de rey

by king criminales amor de rey on Feb 22, 2009 1:25 PM EST reply actions

markus davis is 8-2 in the ufc, and the only top 10 ww he’s faced in the ufc is swick, isn’t it about time he starts calling out some contenders rumble, fitch, koscheck. instead he looks to take on the new guys. but hardy is no joke and i hope he fucks markus up badly.

by nibs12 on Feb 22, 2009 1:26 PM EST reply actions

Marcus Davis knows he’s not a top 10 welterweight. he’s going to end up a gatekeeper. Give Karo a day off.

Hey I’m surprised that nobody has pushed for Rumble vs. Fitch, yet… I want to see that! 2 guys with good wrestling pedigrees who can go to war and throw fast and hard. (I’m going to stop now before this turns into a description that you’d on the back of a gay porn… would make a good fight, though.)

by fleet on Feb 23, 2009 1:49 AM EST up reply actions

Rumble is a contender now? How has he beat? The kid is good, but he is no contender yet.

Davis is not calling out new guys, he is taking fights with the guys he is offered. This hardy thing is the first time he has called out a new guy. He has a point though, it would be a great fight. Plus watching Irish folks beat up Brits is always fun.

by Mike on Feb 23, 2009 6:34 PM EST up reply actions

I wish someone would feed Maia to Bisping! His stand up is so poor and he is tiny compared to Mike it wouldnt last long. TKO round 1

by Tony on Feb 22, 2009 1:39 PM EST reply actions

Well question is has Mike’s wrestling and TDD improved to the point where Maia can’t take him down? If that is the case Bisping could TKO or decision him.

If Maia gets anyone to the ground it’s over. Fascinating matchups ahead.

WAR MARQUARDT

by Jared on Feb 22, 2009 2:12 PM EST reply actions

training muay thai with james mcsweeney ?! hahahahaa, he’s a complete loser! he gonna take a ridiculous ass whoopin’ from silva again if he gets confident training with mcsweeney. Nate is a joke, too big built for a middle weight to ever be a good striker

by Insain on Feb 22, 2009 2:45 PM EST reply actions

Last guy that called Marcus Davis a fake Irishman got knocked the fuck out. Just a thought.

by Stab To The Liver on Feb 22, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions

Anderson has excellent timing. Once he gets his opponent figured out their f***ed. Whoever beats him is going to have to do it in the 1st round before he properly feels them out.

by brandongk4 on Feb 22, 2009 3:04 PM EST reply actions

Okami lost to Franklin. I’m a Franklin fan, but he is far from top 10 material anymore. After Okami lost to Franklin he beat McDonald, Tanner, and Lister. None were top 10 opponents. I’d have the top ranked as:

Silva
Leites
Maia
Henderson
Bisping
Marquardt
Belfort
Lindland
Sonnen
Lawler

by Nate on Feb 22, 2009 3:06 PM EST reply actions

Your top ten is crazy! Who has Maia beat? Sonnen is laughable. And your way off with Franklin. Franklin is one of the best MW’s who just happens to not be able to beat Silva.

by JV on Feb 22, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

rich franklin has never faced any top oppenents, and when he has he has got detroyed. He couldnt finish Louiseu, he has only just made it back to the UFC, he got destroyed by anderson, i mean if he was a top middleweight u should NEVER get beaten that badly twice i dont care what any says. when he was in his peak the middleweight division was far from stacked, he is a good fighter not a top fighter.

best chance at beating silva at this point – i dont know – difficult to say

by dp on Feb 23, 2009 12:30 AM EST up reply actions

Pft…Leites no.2!!! Hardly. I’d have most of the guys on the list ahead of him. Okami is top 10, especially if you’re going to have Sonnen on that list.

by RobH86 on Feb 22, 2009 9:21 PM EST up reply actions

How could you possibly omit Rich? Crazy talk lol.

by RobH86 on Feb 22, 2009 9:22 PM EST up reply actions

okami would beat the snot out of Sonnan

by john on Feb 23, 2009 9:23 AM EST up reply actions

Whats up with Hardy and all his he ain’t Brittish or Irish comments? He made a few comments like that in the pre fight as well. Any time you hear that from an American all we hear is the big stupid American comments. Pot this is kettle….

by sooper822 on Feb 22, 2009 6:42 PM EST reply actions

Marquardt should get the next titleshot.

He finishes in such brutal and awesome ways, this one and the one against Kampmann were just fantastic to see.

Wouldnt mind seeing him fight Maia and knock him out with a superman punch but id like to see both those fighters against Silva.
Nate is a better fighter now then when he fought Silva last.

by Lester the Pimp on Feb 22, 2009 7:07 PM EST reply actions

It’s to my understanding that the winner of Bisping and Hendo will get the next title shot? If this is true then I would say a Marquardt vs. Maia fight around the same time should give that winner the next shot. Another fight to watch for in this division is W.Silva and Franklin. If Wanderlei win’s this could even set up a possible Hendo vs Wandy classic battle! This division is greatly improved from the past but Silva will be hard to knock off the top spot the only guy’s i see haveing a good shot are Wandy if he can improve his endurance and the same for Hendo? I think Hendo was tired after the first round and it made for a easier than it should of been for Silva mainly because of the weight Hendo dropped. I think now that Hendo is use to fighting at this weight a possible second match will be closer and Hendo can end the fight with one swing and if he has the endurance he can out wrestle Silva too but Silva and his long legs that seem to play out wrestlers. Any witch way there will be some good 185 fights now thanks UFC!

by Beaver on Feb 22, 2009 8:54 PM EST reply actions

Man those Brits have to be getting tired of Marcus Davis by now.
