Mirko 'Cro Cop' Filipovic in talks with the UFC and 'another' U.S. organization

Props: Free Fight Videos
Quoteworthy:
"I'm training as much as I can at this stage of the recovery. I'm mainly working on weights and cardio with conditioning coach Jukic. As things stand at the moment I can say that the operation went very well ... I'm in talks with the Japanese, which of course is natural since they treated me so well over the years. And it's not a secret anymore that the UFC has contacted me. I'm also in talks with another U.S. organization."
Pride FC 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix winner Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic (24-6-2) -- who is recovering from knee surgery following his technical knockout win over Hong Man Choi at Field’s Dynamite!! on New Year’s Eve -- indicates he could have plans to return to the Octagon later this year or perhaps "another U.S. organization." Unless he plans on taking a serious pay cut at a smaller promotion, one has to assume he's referring to Affliction or perhaps the new-look Strikeforce -- where bitter rival Alistair Overeem just happens to be heavyweight champion.

Go play in traffic Caknakker. Cro-Cop is one of the best strikers in he sport, and deserves alot of respect. Just because he hit a low in the UFC you wanna jump on him. Oh wait, maybe we should treat every MMA athlete that way when they rack up a few losses. I’m glad most people aren’t assholes like you. Personally I like watching someone rising back to the top ala Randy Couture or Vitor Belfort(hopefully).
WAR VITOR! Vitor Vs. A Silva Please!!!!!

Nokimono go live in your blissful ignorance, because “you can’t handle the truth!” Cro-crap is done. One of the best strikers in the sport? Gimme a break! He was good years ago and now the sport has evolved past him. He’s a very simplistic fighter. A one trick pony and no one’s falling for his left kick anymore. Besides that, he’s got nothing to be able to compete vs the top guys in the sport any more.
It’s too bad that Cro-crap hasn’t developed any new skill and so, he will not rise to the top. And this, believe it or not, is coming from a former fan of his fighting.

cro=cop was suppost to be the best thing to hit the ufc 2-3 years ago, and gonzga put it all to bed

roy & gaara. Do you guys really think Cro-crap can compete with the guys of today? In either the Heavyweight, or Lt. Heavyweight, he will get beat by most of the guys. And this is simply bec he is a one-sided fighter. You don’t need much of a game plan to beat this guy. I was also a fan of the Mirko of years ago, who was young and hungry, but this guy is basically a dinosaur in today’s mma. Sorry, but someone had to tell you straight.

Damn Mirko gettin no love here, no worries CRO COP I’m still with u homie, keep throwin down and workin on the ground game, don’t bother listening to the negativity; just get back in there and knock someone’s head off with a left high kick like the old days!!!

I love Cro Cop’s style but he’s getting near the end of the line. Maybe LHW would be a good idea.

i like the guy, the hight kick is kinda the grand slam of mma and nobody does it better.
by Blazy J on Feb 18, 2009 3:30 PM EST reply actions
dang, a couple of sub-par performances and the haters come out of the woodwork, give the guy a break he’s not Fedor, he’s going to have a few losses in his career. besides, he was dominating the fight with Kongo before the dude started attacking his nut sack, as for Gonzaga, he got caught it happens, props to Gonzaga. but i’m still a fan.
by The_Cannibal on Feb 18, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions
I remember being psyched in the Kongo fight that Mirko was doing so well on the feet and the ground, but he just lost his steam.
by Jon on Feb 18, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions
I guess you could say that Cro Cop got caught against Gonzaga, no one saw that kick coming, but don’t forget that GG was dominating the whole fight on the ground before the questionable stand up. I don’t know what happened in the Kongo fight. I was expecting that to be a great kickboxing match, but it just didn’t happen.
I don’t think Cro Cop ever recovered from the Gonzaga beheading, and I don’t think he will be much of a threat to the hw title in the UFC. He could still have some exciting fights though.

NEWS UPDATE
FRANKLIN/WANDY IN GERMANY AT UFC 99
by McArthur on Feb 18, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions
I read it was at a catch weight of 195.

just due to his insane highlight tape from back in the day i’ll always be a fan. i’d love to see mark coleman and cro cop go at it!
by MDR on Feb 18, 2009 3:49 PM EST reply actions
I don’t know if I’ve necessarily seen a lack of talent or athleticism from Mirko signalling he’s ‘done’ but his game planning and offensive strategies need to change dramatically. he isn’t fighting 10 minute rounds in a stand up friendly ring and organization anymore. he needs to add a little aggression at minimum.

Cro Cop vs. Couture at UFC 99 has been confirmed? Other sites are claiming this.
by JoshuaThomas on Feb 18, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions
if cro cop wouldve beat gonzaga the fight with randy wouldve been so much more epic
by Jared on Feb 18, 2009 5:31 PM EST up reply actions
I guess he really is ducking a rematch with Overeem.
by Belisarius on Feb 18, 2009 4:37 PM EST reply actions
You mean the Strikeforce guy who can also most likely fight in Affliction and is rumored to be coming to the UFC?
by Jon on Feb 18, 2009 6:31 PM EST up reply actions
I wouldn’t want to fight Overeem again if I was him either. Neither would my sack!
by LJ on Feb 18, 2009 7:04 PM EST up reply actions
CroCop should drop down to LHW and fight the Iceman.
UFC should start a senior league.
by UFCAddict on Feb 18, 2009 7:13 PM EST reply actions

by COR on Feb 18, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions
I can’t believe people think Cro Cop is washed up. I believe he is still a very good fighter, and others will still be worried to fight him. I would love to see Cro Cop back in the UFC.
