Watch UFC 95 Countdown to 'Sanchez vs Stevenson' on UFC.com
Props: UFC.com
Check out some notable quotes from Diego Sanchez that were featured in the show courtesy of Steve Cofield after the jump. "The Nightmare" also didn't mince words when it came to his former trainer, Greg Jackson.
"He's worked hard on his boxing but it hasn't evolved. This is MMA and if you don't evolve, you're gonna get eaten."
-- Diego Sanchez on Joe Stevenson's inability to improve since The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 2 show
"Watching the (Kenny) Florian-Joe fight, I see that Joe ain't training with guys who are better than him. Joe's supposedly a black belt, he did not even know how to do a hip escape or even try to escape from the mount. He just turned and gave his back, that's a white belt if you ask me."
-- Diego Sanchez on Joe Stevenson's submission defense (or lack thereof)
"I'm watching (Florian v. Stevenson at UFC 91) and I'm seeing Kenny Florian do so good, a guy that I just totally destroyed (in the final of The Ultimate Fighter I). So I'm like I'm one of the smallest guys at 170, why not go down to 55 and see what happens, possibly get a title shot."
-- Diego Sanchez on smashing current number one division contender Kenny Florian way back when

daddy, wipe that smirk off your face! you’d think they could have found a more menacing picture. Diego looks mean and Daddy looks like he just farted.

Can’t stand Sanchez!!! I don’t think Daddy has a chance but, I can hope for a quick Guillotine!

I’m picking Joe in this one…weight cut/travelling overseas for first time and all his ego/talk towards Joe are my reasons…good reasons?? we’ll see
by McArthur on Feb 17, 2009 9:22 AM EST reply actions
you’re definitely wrong.. Joey boy loses this fight 100 times out of 100.. the guy has no chance in hell, weight cut only affects lazy a$$ amateurs!
by RoB on Feb 17, 2009 9:25 AM EST up reply actions
Right. Kos or Fitch couldn’t finish Diego, and Stevenson, IMO, is nowhere near the level those two guys are. I say Diego TKO in 2nd or 3rd.

If this wasn’t Diego’s first fight at 155, I would be able to choose him with much more confidence. So far, the majority of the money being bet is being bet on Diego. He opened as a -300 favorite and is now -350.
I do know this, that if Joe becomes +300, a small bet on him may be necessary, since its Diego’s first fight at 155.
Joe’s arms are just too short and he should lose the standup exchanges. On the ground, I give Diego the advantage as well. Joe can only hope for his guillatine which Diego should have well scouted. The only other way I got Joe winning is if Diego is just a shell of himself at 155 and Joe outworks him for a decision.

Yeah, mex…MMA math doesnt work but it can be used to show just how tough a fighter is. Like u said, Kos and Fitch couldnt finish him, so I doubt Joe and his basic guillotine will be able to get the job done! The more I think about this match up, the more money I want to bet on Diego!
I fell asleep at like 9:00 last night…so pissed that I missed 24! Luckily I woke back up at 1:00 am and found UFC 95 countdown re-airing on MTV 2, so I got to watch it! It was a good countdown.
I love Willy~G wit the upset over Marquardt! ko style!

Marquardt is TOUGH. I will be rooting for Gouviea, but still unsure if I will be able to bet on him. If he reaches +300, its a MUST, but until then, its iffy.

I am a big Marquardt fan, but his only real edge against Willy G is in the wrestling aspect of the fight!
Marquardts last fight was against a WW, Kampman…..Willy G is used to fighting LHW’s….I like Big Will’s chances for an upset!
Of Course, Nate is the rightful favorite, but I will bet something small on Willy G!
by john on Feb 17, 2009 12:33 PM EST up reply actions
yep, Willy G definetly has the advantage standing up and i’m looking for the knockout to happen..

I actually liked the Marquardt and Stevenson pieces the best.

I only caught the first half. I thought it was done well. Boy Diego still has sour grapes about the GSP situation. Also, I’m getting tired of seeing how everyone came from a broken home. There’s gotta be other ways to make the fighters look tough. I don’t want to hear about anymore dad’s leaving or dad’s beating them up.

Unlike Joe Daddy, Kill-Flo has evolved. He adds to his game and is a better fighter every time out. Diego will definitely have his hands full with Florian this time around.

When will everyone learn that Kenny blows… oh when BJ makes his face explode… thats right

Hey . . . KENNY FINISHES FIGHTS! The next time Joe Silva calls, you better hope and pray he doesn’t tell you you’re fighting Kenny Florian.
by PW on Feb 17, 2009 10:40 AM EST up reply actions
If he finishes fights then why did he run from Huerta the whole fight? Strategy or was it because he was afraid as he admitted he did not want to trade with Roger.
by hk on Feb 17, 2009 11:29 AM EST up reply actions
I cant get the image out of my head about Kenny running around talking baout “I finish fights” when Din’s knee popped out due to a freak injury! TASTELESS if you ask me!
by john on Feb 17, 2009 11:35 AM EST up reply actions
I’m as big a fan of Huerta as anybody, but as the saying goes, you brawl with a boxer and box with a brawler. Huerta is a brawler, and Kenny refused to fall into Huerta’s style. He got in, popped him a few times and got back out.
As for the Din Thomas affair, Din didn’t quit when his knee went out, he quit when Kenny choked him, so lots of credit to Din for that. Still, I can’t help but think it was some sort of instant karmic payback for mocking Kenny by riding an imaginary bike around the ring.
by PW on Feb 17, 2009 12:23 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, I also thought it was instant Karma for Mocking Kenny!
I hate Kenny Florian, but I really enjoy watching him fight! am I making any sense?
by john on Feb 17, 2009 12:34 PM EST up reply actions
I can understand hating someone but enjoying watching them fight. I don’t like BJ the person, but I love BJ the fighter. I think he’s as exciting to watch as anyone, but I can’t stand the stuff he says outside the ring.
by GregC on Feb 17, 2009 3:22 PM EST up reply actions
basically thats how I feel about Kenny! If Kenny were say, Matt Hammil, who couldnt talk…. I would be Kenny’s #1 fan!

Because of stevia and cold fission, Diego will stop Stevenson with body shots, no shit.

I always thought these two were the same guy.

Anyone else think Stevenson looks like Sam from Lord of the Rings? Just me?
Also, Sanchez by TKO Rnd 2…
by Hero-Of-Time on Feb 17, 2009 12:47 PM EST reply actions
There will always be people who hate on Kenny no matter what he does and no matter how many times he proves them wrong. He fought a smart fight agaist Huerta and didn’t do a Gurgel or Leban against him, if he had done that and got ktfo, you would have called him stupid for doing it. He submiited Stevenson in the first round and had no problem standing with Sherk, but Sherk just kept using his strength and power to take him down, and just keep him pinned to the ground for the whole match You may not like Kenny, but you could at least respect his skills in the octogan.

I’m a huge Diego fan, but I have a ton of respect for Kenflo. It’s been fun watching his growth in the UFC. He’s a million times better than he was on TUF 1. He’s certainly earned my respect. Not sure why all the hate on Kenflo, but I’m figuring it’s pretty isolated. He did a great job standing in for Rogan on the commentary, and he shows respect to everyone. I’ll definitely be rooting for him to kick BJ’s ass, and I think he’ll do it too!!
