i like both of these guys a lot and could really see either one winning… id say a small bet on chael wouldnt be a bad bet, i think the odds are pretty favorable

Not bad really if you bet on Sonnen. This guy isn’t easily submittable. But then again, it’s Maia that we’re talking about here. This guy strangles BJJ blackbelts for a living!

Thats what I was predicting.

who said Jacre was going to compete in ADCC? I doubt it, he is focused on mma. I was one of the 1st people to post that Fedor was competing in ADCC, but I read a recent interview with Fedor which said that it was just a rumor.
What I know for sure is that Mousasi, and Arona wil be competing in ADCC 09.
Gaara: are u on crack? Maia fights in the UFC, so there is no way Dana would let him compete in ADCC, not that he wants to anyway…He has accomplished everything in the grappling world!

I too cant wait for ADCC 09. Our head trainer, Braulio Estima is competing again and is hopefully going to clear up this year.
Plus he is planning a move to MMA later on this year as well so all those MW’s better beware…trust me. He will be another BJJ monster for everyone at that weight to worry about.
BTW Demian by RNC R1. Easy money.

Gaara- Jacare and Souza are the same guy, so probably will not be competing against each other. I agree that ADCC will be very interesting this year.
Anyone know if J.Z. is also in the mix?

gesias Calvacante….only one of the best LIghtweights on earth!
Speaking of JZ, he may bulk up and try his lucj in the dream WW brand Prix

Maia can’t lose this one, the UFC is paving the way for its next star.
by BK on Feb 17, 2009 11:06 PM EST reply actions
bs this will be Maia’s biggest test to date, i have a feeling he will lose…
by JRE on Feb 17, 2009 11:18 PM EST up reply actions
for sure it’s his biggest test, he can’t go backwards. I’m saying this feels like a hand picked fight for someone Dana wants to see succeed… after all the Spider won’t be around forever for Dana to suck off.

Chael Sonnen isn’t the type of guy to get submitted easily. He just squealed in pain[but didn’t tap out] when Babalu was doin’ the heel hook on him[though babalu submitted him in the end still with a different submission move]. Plus he didn’t tap out when Filho did an armbar on him so Sonnen won’t get submitted that easily.
But then again, this is Maia that we’re talkin’ about. A submitter of BJJ blackbelts, and one who doesn’t get fazed by his opponent’s submission attepts on him, like in the MacDonald fight.

Chael is tough and he doesnt tap easy, so i WILL GIVE HIM THAT. but like you said, Maia taps blackbelts on a daily basis. This fight is going to end with a choke anyway, so tapping doesnt really matter. Chael has 2 options: tap or nap!

I like Maia-but he always talks about how he’s comfortable with his stand up- but yet he always shots for a takedown right away hmmm me thinks he lies and is scared to get Ko’d
by ricky on Feb 17, 2009 11:29 PM EST reply actions
why would he want to stand and trade? if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. maia w/ 2nd round sub
by ActionJackson on Feb 17, 2009 11:31 PM EST up reply actions
Aoki aint broke (yet) but he def needs to fix it.
by SoCalStunNa on Feb 17, 2009 11:37 PM EST up reply actions
Right on ActionJackson. Why defer from your bread and butter, right?
by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Feb 18, 2009 3:44 AM EST up reply actions
I’d say it’s likely Sonnen will get sub’d early in this one. At least I hope so. Just read an article where Sonnen calls Jiu-jitsu gay and says he’s not into it because he’s Republican. This from a wrestler! Complete and utter douche.
by Jeremyjackson on Feb 18, 2009 1:52 AM EST reply actions
This is a tough fight for Sonnen, as good as a GnP guy as he is, I think he needs to do his best to keep it standing. I think Sonnen is going to pull this one out.
by DAVE A on Feb 18, 2009 3:14 AM EST reply actions
Sonnen via upset![is he the underdog in the 1st place, I dunno, hehe!]
by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Feb 18, 2009 3:45 AM EST reply actions
Maia is wayyy out of Sonnen’s league.
Maia by whatever he wants. Submission Round 2.
