Caol Uno vs Spencer Fisher in the works for UFC 99 in Germany

Spencer Fisher (22-4) is penciled in to re-introduce Caol Uno (25-11-4) to the Octagon at UFC 99 at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany, June 13, according to industry sources.
After seven consecutive UFC fights, Uno left the organization in 2003 to compete in K-1 Hero’s. During his UFC tenure, Uno fought the cream of the crop in the lightweight division, including BJ Penn (loss, draw), Jens Pulver (loss), Hermes Franca (loss), Din Thomas (win) and Yves Edwards (win), among others. He amassed a respectable record (3-3-1) during that time.
And he’s kept the good competition coming ever since.
Uno recently entered the 2008 DREAM Lightweight Grand Prix, pulling off a shocking upset of early tournament favorite Mitsuhiro Ishida courtesy of a submission (rear naked choke). He would go on to lose to submission wizard and eventual runner up, Shinya Aoki, via unanimous decision in the next round.
Put simply, "Uno Shoten" is a great acquisition on several fronts -- he’s not only talented and experienced, but also a high profile fighter from Japan who could influence others to follow suit (we’re looking at you, "Kid" Yamamoto).
Fisher most recently defeated Shannon Gugerty via submission (triangle choke) at UFC 90: "Silva vs. Cote" back in October 2008. It was his second straight win – "The King" outpointed the heavy-handed Jeremy Stephens on all three judges scorecards at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 Finale in June 2008.
The Miletich Fighting Systems veteran has won three of his last five bouts, including a rematch against Sam Stout at UFC Fight Night 10 more than one year ago. Fisher is a former top contender in the 155-pound class. And a win over an opponent the caliber of Uno will prove once again that he still belongs among the division’s elite.
The fight card for UFC 99 may still be in its infancy, but don’t be surprised to see former UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture make the trip overseas.
Again.
"The Natural," who spent four years of U.S. Army service stationed at the "Fliegerhorst" base of Langendiebach in Erlensee, Germany, has been in talks to face former UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at this event.
And if Big Nog isn’t available, rumor has it some Croatian Cop is looking to give the Octagon a second try.
Stay tuned to MMAmania.com for more details and information as it becomes available.

If Cro Cop or Overeem make their return, maybe even Tito, this could be better than whatever UFC 100 brings us!!

let me start off by saying that Uno is a wonderful addition to the UFC LW division! Uno vs. Fisher has fight of the night potential written all over it!
AS for UFC 99: I hear that couture probably wont be ready for this card. He has a film commitment that would only give him about a 6 week training camp for UFC 99, and at his age, I dont think he should be taking fights without a full training camp. I know that the UFC wants him on this card, but I dont believe it will happen. I do however expect to see cro Cop on this card! IMO, couture will be on the UFC 100 card, but what do I know?
I would love to see Cro Cop vs. Nog 2, since they havent fought in about 6 years!

I agree John. Good to see Uno back. I think the card with BJ and Uno was the first UFC I saw, (the draw that destroyed the division).
He’s got a pretty good record I reckon. He’s only really lost to top tier opponents or people considered top tier back when he fought them.
Certainly a good addition to the LW division. With regards to UFC99, I’m hoping we get to see the Demolition Man in action. Also Mirko and Nog, I think I’d rather see that one go down than Mirko rematching Alistair. I reckon Dennis Siver will be on the card also. Kampmann maybe? Probably too quick a turnaround for Kongo and Hardonk.

Caol Uno is back baby!! I hope he beats some biatches down in the division. This guy is one of my favorites from the old school days. Maybe a rematch between Uno and Penn in the future? I can pray

yes mos def! Mirko vs Nog II would be sweet both are in a negative trend and looking to get back on track, it’s a must see for the old pride fans like myself!.. and if Demolition Man is on the card i’ll be going for sure!.. Alessio Sakara should be on this card too if he’s healthy

rOB: yOU want the inside scoop on Alistar Overeem?
I got you buddy!
Alistar has 2 fights left on his dream contract. When that is over he is going to decide on whether to stay with DReam or join the UFC or Affliction.
Right now Alistar Overeem is living/training with none other than shogun doing cardio with Alejarra at Wand’s new gym in Vegas. Helping Shogun get ready for his fight with Liddell!
U hear that Shogun Haters?
Shogun is training for Chuck with Alistar and wandy’s gym using wandy’s genius conditioning coach? Still think shogun is going to gas and get beat up by chuck? I sure dont!
Old shogun will be back!

Also, it’s still to be seen if Liborio and Ouali can teach Chuck to keep his hands up. As far as this, i got Uno via sub easily(i hope).

Oh yea Mania stop writing “if Big Nog isn’t available” on these UFC 99 posts -He has always been even when injured. it’s couture that is always a question i.e injury, movies, spat with management over contracts he signed, general acts of ducking, etc…
by NameNotRequired on Feb 17, 2009 6:18 PM EST up reply actions
couture is the one thats not available! randy wont fight at UFC 99 because his movie commitment would only give him time for a six week training cam if he were to fight at UFC 99. Randy will be back at UFC 100!

Spencer hasn’t knocked anyone out since….. a very long time. Spence by decision is more like it, if Uno doesn’t submit him. I don’t have a pick here, and nor am I too interested in this. Good scrap and I’ll watch it and hope for an exciting fight nonetheless.

UFC 64 was Spence’s last TKO win. Dan Lauzon.

No one is getting Ko’ed in this fight! bUt it does have the potential to be fight of the night!
I got Uno winning a decision!

Uno is a great wrestler and I think that’s going to be the difference. Spencer has admitted that his wrestling sucks (not my words) and the Frankie Edgar fight proved that he could be taken down and controlled. Uno has a great submission game as well. He competed in ADCC and from what I saw of him there he did well. I think you’re right john, Uno by decision. Spencer just has problems with wrestlers.
by DB on Feb 17, 2009 5:50 PM EST up reply actions
Dm: Uno by decision, or he could possibly wrestle his way to a RNC win!
by john on Feb 17, 2009 6:46 PM EST up reply actions
Nah.. Spence won’t get submitted. Outwrestled yes, tapped out, no.
by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Feb 17, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions
I agree, except if Uno takes his back….That would be Uno’s only chance at submitting Fisher…cause Fisher has great jits and sub defense, but rNC aint that easy to defend

Assuming a 9pm local event start time, it would be 2pm CST.

That’s awesome! Looking foward to Uno v Fisher. I also would love to see Randy and Crocop. Randy would murder him!

I’m a Cro Cop fan, but a bigger Randy Couture fan, and one of the reasons I don’t care to see that fight is because I don’t want see Randy tool Cro Cop and beat him down for 3 rds; I think Mirko should get rematch with Kongo or Gonzaga.

hmm i wonder wat the rumor is, do u think bj vs kenflo??

This might be shaping up to be a good card. Would love to see Randy fight again.

All the UFC nuthuggers speak of couture like he is god don’t get me wrong he is a great fighter but he is not unbeateble, you never know he become another victim of the left high kick to the dome or get the blood choked out of his brain by an anoconda!! You just never know…
by William Blake on Feb 17, 2009 11:37 AM EST reply actions
I think anyone can look at his record and see he’s not unbeatable. Also, it’s about a 50/50 split between people who have Captain Paycheck on a god-like pedestal and people who snidely call him Captain Paycheck for that whole quitting/breach of contract/UFC sucks fiasco.
by PW on Feb 17, 2009 12:29 PM EST up reply actions
i personally have never heard him called god, jsut a smart fighter. also pertaining to your snide comment about our evidently short memories, i vaguely recall his last fight being a loss to lesnar.
by connor on Feb 17, 2009 1:04 PM EST up reply actions
Spencer wins via however he wants. I’m such a big fan of this guy.
I wanna see him in title contention. Wouldn’t mind seeing him at 145 in the WEC, either…
Cro Cop fighting again doesn’t really interest me. In his prime he was tough as nails but I think Gonzaga broke him. Not saying he should throw in the towel, but training in the U.S. for awhile might be a good precurser to taking on top ranked fighters.
by Jon on Feb 17, 2009 2:57 PM EST reply actions
This is great. Uno is one of the top lightweights in the world. He may be outside of many top tens, but he’s a great addition to the already stacked lightweight division. And I’m picking him to win this fight. Spencer has had problems with wrstlers in the past (Frankie Edgar) and Uno is a fantastic wrestler who has competed in ADCC. I’m picking Uno by decision. I’d like to see him fight Guida, Sherk, Edgar, Maynard or any of the top LW wrestlers.
