Hi everybody, as I am from montreal, I’ve ehard a sad new. UFC 97 has a HUGE % of chances of beeing cancelled! here is the source, it’s in french unfortunatly:
http://www.corussports.com/divers/ufc_97_annule-20090212-1412843.html
What it says mainly is that the laws in Quebec about fighting does not permit elbow or kee strikes, which all of you knows, are part of the MMA since the beginning.
They said the commission that regulates fighting in Quebec didn’t do they job properly in the first UFC that was held in Montreal.
more to come later!

CHeck this out***
This is so funny! They asked Diego and stevenson what fighters do they look up to today at a conference call. Here is what they had to say:
“1:42 p.m. – Fighters are asked about their heroes in MMA and who they like to watch.
Joe said Dan Henderson.
Diego prefaces his response by apologizing to Dana White and said for him, it’s Fedor Emelianenko. Said he doesn’t even know if he’s human. Said he has no emotion in his fights and respects how he comes into fights wearing “the cross” and “honors the lord” after the fight. Said he also looks up to Anderson Silva but that he sees holes in Silva’s game." -bloodyelbow
Dana has petrified these fighters to the point where they are afraid of asking questions. Lmao! Dana the dictator!
Watch Diego get cut after his fight with JOe because of these remarks!

No way. Canada has their own mma orginazations and they use elbows and elbows.
by Bluepit on Feb 12, 2009 6:21 PM EST up reply actions
Yes, MMA is sanctioned in three provinces I believe: Nova Scotia, Alberta, and (I thought) Quebec.
It may have not come to light as the UFC may be weighing its options….. or maybe the announcement is crap. Time will tell.

Canada is a country consisting of “provinces” each of which have provincial laws…similar to the US which has “states” each of which have different state laws

nott to be racist or anything but has anyone noticed
franklin mcneil only likes the black fighters anthony johnson, kimbo etc etc lmao
by ian on Feb 12, 2009 6:19 PM EST reply actions
He doesn’t only like the black fighters, but he does seem to have a preference. The best example was him complaining that Quentin Jackson needed to be on the “Mt. Rushmore of MMA” so there would be a black guy on there.

Okay, maybe he’s telling the truth :). See below…
According to Réjean Thériault, the the communications director of the Control of alcohols, the races and the plays blows of knee and elbow to the head are illegal in Quebec so the UFC must abide by the rules in order to have the event in Montreal. According to Mr. Thériault’ "if they don’t abide by the rules of Quebec they will have to plan the event somewhere else."

Can someone tell me why the UFC did not buy Elite XC?
by Bryce on Feb 12, 2009 7:12 PM EST reply actions
I’ve always thought McNeil was a tool, but saying that the fighter he most wants to see from Elite XC is Kimbo just cemented it. How can I respect him as an analyst if he would rather see Kimbo fight than Jake Shields or Robbie Lawler?
by GregC on Feb 12, 2009 8:23 PM EST reply actions
Yeah, GregC, I was just going to post the exact same thing after watching the episode. He got this little smirk on his face after he said it knowing he was probably going to hear about that comment later on.

Apparently, the Quebec Athetic Commission decided to revise the rules of the sport because of a riot that occured in a no-name lame-ass promotion called Strikebox earlier last week.
Basically the show was sanctionned as a boxing event with no ground game, no elbows and no knees and of the fighters in the promotion (James Thompson who else…) went for a takedown that pissed off the crowd in attendance. They started throwing beer cans and whatever else they could into the ring…

Karo vs Koscheck… really?
Karo’s getting the Jardine treatment now it seems. Koscheck will maul him.
by Hero-Of-Time on Feb 13, 2009 4:43 PM EST reply actions
Why would Karo deserve to fight Koscheck? I’d much rather see Rumble Johnson v Kos so that it has some meaning. Kos would have no reason to fight Karo at all. I wanna see Karo take his depressed and pain-medicated-self out of the UFC.
