Brandon Wolff vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida UFC 98 fight possible

Mixed Martial Arts Development (MMAD) coach and fighter Brandon Wolff (7-3) will return to the Octagon against Japanese import Yoshiyuki "Zenko" Yoshida at UFC 98 on May 23 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada according to MMAHawaii.com.
Wolff made his UFC debut last December at UFC Fight Night 16 'Fight for the Troops,' receiving a very rude welcome from Ben Saunders via gruesome Thai clinch. The "Killa-B" blasted Wolff in the clinch with a series of damaging knees that left the Hawaiian barely recognizable.
Despite the first round loss, Wolff is a talented welterweight with victories in EliteXC, Rumble on the Rock and the WEC. Hopefully we'll get to see some of his abilities when he squares off against the dangerous Judoka - also coming off a drubbing at Fight Night 16.
Yoshida — the former Cage Force and Shooto star — was successful in his UFC debut at UFC 84: "Ill Will" when he submitted TUF alum Jon Koppenhaver via anaconda choke. The Tokyo Yellow Mans star was the winner of nine straight fights and was looking to make it 10 against Josh Koscheck at Fight Night 16 until the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) standout put "Zenko" in the hospital with a brutal two-punch knockout.
UFC 98 features the final round of the mini heavyweight tournament between Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir in the main event of the evening. The rest of the card is shaping up nicely, showcasing the grudge match between welterweight enemies and former champions, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, as well as an important lightweight clash between Sean Sherk and Frank Edgar.

UFC should not allow people like that to fight. That is the same thing as me comming into the cage against anderson silva and just letting him beat my face till the ref stopped it…guys is a joke…

Thats not me! nIce try stinky!
Its a shame that Yoshida is getting fed a can like this dude. Yoshida is better than this. This fight will just bury him on the undercard. Lucky it wont take Brock more than 10 minutes to dispose of Mir, and Yoshida should submit dude rather quickly so we might get to see Yoshida after all!

I hope Wolff can show better. I appreciate the sport, but will confess I didn’t enjoy watching Wolff absorbe the brutal beating he took. Didn’t think we’d see him in the octagon again, so I guess I have to respect him for getting back up on the horse. I would expect Yoshida to run right through Wolff however.

The hight difference between the two was a major factor. He was getting kneed in the face without his head having to be hardly pulled down. I could imagine him putting on a better performance with someone slightly shorter than his last apponent

he should really move down to 155… doesnt really make sense in my opinion for these guys that are like 5’10 to be fighting at 170 and 185… theyre going to give up so much reach all the time that unless they learn extremely good head movement theyre going to have problems… I am 6’1 and weigh 175 but i would NEVER consider fighting at 170, seeing the size and reach of some of the guys in that division…
by brendan on Feb 11, 2009 3:14 PM EST up reply actions
I’m 5’6 and 128.. do they have a 120lb division? I think I could cut the 8lbs. Going to be tough, but I think I can get it. Hope it won’t leave me dehydrated though…

The clinch that A.Silva used on “Ace” and B.Saunders used on Wolff is the easiest thing to escape from. I have trained MMA for only about 6mo but that is one of the first things we learned. The guys hands are around your head pulling you towards him, his knees are comming up from the ground, as soon as one leaves the floor, makes contact with hopefully a forearm(not your face) then moves back to the floor. Only one knee can be off the ground at a time, as soon as contact is made, move foreward with his momentum, duck just enough to get under his hands…and you are out. People trying to pull away and keep distance between themselves is the worst mistake you can make.

Both of these guys got knocked out silly at the Fight For The Troops Event…Machida went out cold and Wolff looked like someone punched him in the back of the head and went to his forehead.
by Hispanic Panic on Feb 11, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions
i could understand if we were talking about machida in this thread….. but we werent.. so howd you throw his name out instead of zenko?
by josh on Feb 11, 2009 3:08 PM EST up reply actions
I think it’s hilarious that Yoshida subbed War Machine in what 90 seconds? And then War Machine turned down a fight with Brandon Wolff cause he “didn’t have a big enough name” and then Yoshida loses and takes a fight with Wolff. Probably explains why 1 can keep a job and 1 can’t.
by Brandon on Feb 11, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions
lol…forgot about that. I know War Machine was pissed when he saw the drubbing Wolff took.
by Ground-Game on Feb 11, 2009 4:02 PM EST up reply actions
my picks, Brock by ko . Serra by rnc , Edgar by what ever it takes
