Wagnney Fabiano may complicate Urijah Faber's life at WEC 40

Quoteworthy:
"I’ll be back at April 5 and we’ll see what will happen. I still don’t know who’s gonna be my opponent, but I think It’ll be [Urijah] Faber. And I’ll be ready for him. I have to be well trained, with no injuries at all and I’m already training for this fight. I sincerely think that I’d complicate his life with my game style. He’s good fighting standing, but I don’t fear his striking at all. The deal is be careful with those elbows, but we’ll see. We’ll set a good strategy for him.
Former IFL Featherweight Champion Wagnney Fabiano (11-1) prepares for a rumored showdown with former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber at WEC 40 in Chicago this April. The Brazilian is riding a seven-fight win streak, including a submission win over Akitoshi Tamurahis in his WEC debut back at WEC 37 last December. It looks as if "The California Kid" may have one last hurdle to clear before trying to regain his 145-pound title from either Mike Brown or Leonard Garcia, depending on the outcome of WEC 39. No question Fabiano will be looking to hand Faber another loss so that he can take his place.

THis is a damn good match up and I will be rooting for it to happen! Fabiano is NO JOKE and his ground game is SICK!!!! I give him a decent shot against Urijah, but of coarse Urijah will be the favorite!

lol… Kevin, u know my spelling blows! i love the WEC!!!
Rumor Alert***
NIck Diaz vs. Riggs (Not sure how real this is, thats whyI call it a rumor)
Karo went on an Armenian tV station and he said that Karo (talks in 3rd person) vs. Koschek is a possibility for UFC 98, as long as Kos wins and doesnt take much of a beating against that dude I have never heard of B4!!!
If Kos vs. Karo happens, it will be the 1st time in my life that I will find myself rooting for Kos (the lessor of 2 eveils)
I also heard that Strikeforce rejected Ninja (this isnt a rumor)

Also: Joe Lauzon called out Nate Diaz! Make it happen Joe Silva!
UFN 18: Osterneck vs. Jorge Rivera!
Paul Taylor had to oull out of his upcoming fight due to back problems!

Nick Diaz vs. Frank Shamrock at 185 lbs is a possibility! Nick walks around at about 185 lbs, so beefing up a little to fight at middleweight should not be a problem!

Karo doesnt deserve Kos, like someone is sitting there saying “if Kos beats this next guy, then we can give him Karo,” like it’s a step up for Kos or something. Kos would kill Karo. I bet Karo couldn’t even beat Hazelett. I dont like Kos that much either, but I, much like you john, would find myself in the rare position of rooting for the guy if this fight were to happen.
I think Diaz vs Riggs would be a good fight, for about a round and a half before Diaz TKO’s Riggs. Riggs is far from marquee, which has been said that Diaz’ next opponent would be. They should have him fight Lawler again, but Lawler is a lot bigger than him now. Their first fight is one of my all time favorites.

I hear that Diaz vs. Shamrock is also a possibiity!
I do strongly agree that Karo is a step down for Kos, but Kos’s next opponent is even more of a step down! Seems like he is just taking fights left and right for a paycheck!

im jacked for kos vs karo, kos is going to dummy him. and diaz vs riggs should be good, like how everyone is popping new fight news from everywhere
by Jared on Feb 9, 2009 4:03 PM EST up reply actions
Karo is a step down for Kos, but the only fighters who aren’t a step for Kos right now are GSP (already destroyed Kos) and Fitch, and we don’t need to rehash that situation again. So give Kos the Karo fight and let him cash another fat check.

who thinks kos vs a johnson would be a good fight, cuz i do

They need to feed Karo to AJ. Karo, lytle or swick will do. Fabiano can sub Faber for sure. He was cutting up Tamura guard like nobody’s business. It’s really gonna come down to if he can slow down the tempo.

well since I’m going to go (hopefully, red sox are in town for 3 games the same week, could get expensive) to strikeforce, I hope it’s diaz/shamrock over diaz/riggs!

Call me crazy Kev, but I would like Nicks chances against Frank! Nick looks like he has put on some serious muscle recently….if this fight is booked, it would be HUGE for Strikeforce!

Curious George is good enough to possibly give Faber his third loss. He will have to look better than he did in his last fight though.

dude that comparison made me look and honestly its damn true, but i dont see how the guy beats urijah at all urijah has never been submitted and his losses are both throwing some stupid strikes and getting caught

That’d be a nice addition to the card, nevr seen Fabiano fight but I’ve seen Faber. Fabiano has a good record so I’m guessin it’ll be good
by IrishKev on Feb 9, 2009 1:38 PM EST reply actions
fabiano is good, i don’t now if he will be able to beat faber but i will be pulling for him he is sick on the ground and does have some power in his striking.

Faber deserves a title fight against the winner of Brown-Garcia. Let Fabiano have a televised warm-up fight to let fans see him once before fighting Faber.
by PW on Feb 9, 2009 1:46 PM EST reply actions
i do agree with that, faber was the long time champ he deserves the shot with the winner of brown garcia but i like fabaino and am excited to see the fight though i do think another fight would have been better before fighting faber.

He was televised in WEC 37 – the Tapia vs. Torres card (I actually missed the Torres fight cause it went overtime :( lol)
by Anger Jack on Feb 9, 2009 2:18 PM EST up reply actions
deserving or not urijah wants to fight 4-5 times this year and waiting til the winner of garcia and brown makes that hard to do.. and fabiano is a great up and comer to put on an extremely deep resume of victories

Wagnney Fabiano EVEN PUT FRANK MIR ASLEEP in his last fight, it was pretty much a bjj macth and Frank Mir said" I’m a black belt in BJJ and I find this kinda boring" !

Oh man..u guys just don’t know this guy fabioano is the truth. Talented, explosive and innovative. Kind of reminds me of Faber. He goes for it…well rounded. Has great jits and some natural wrestling abilities as well as great striking. I don’t see Faber winning but whoever wins this fite will probably hold the title sometime in 09… Oh its true! Its damn true

I love this fight, Fabiano’s got a slick ground game and good enough striking to hang wit Faber. I got wagney wit the upset via submission.

naw, they should have him fight Jose Aldo and let Faber fight for the championship. i would like to see aldo fight garcia.

I like Urijah fight – and fight often – that is what he does best;
Don’t make it UFC where a guy has to sit 6 months to a year without the fight to get the title shot
by Anger Jack on Feb 9, 2009 2:20 PM EST up reply actions
yeah, urijah just seems like a guy who wants to fight no matter what not to mention i see a lot of sites having fabiano as a top5 some top3 145 in the world
by randy murders on Feb 9, 2009 2:28 PM EST up reply actions
Wagney could win this one. Dude is hulk strong and has phenomenal BJJ. I can not wait for this.
by Bill 'O Really on Feb 9, 2009 3:10 PM EST reply actions
Neither one could take MATT MUELLER.
but i got faber winning. damn i love watching him fight
by UltimateSquint on Feb 9, 2009 3:41 PM EST reply actions
Glad to see the addition of Wagney to WEC. WEC is slowly bringing the featherweight division into the limelight. You have alot of young talented fighters who really put on a show every fight.
by JJKID on Feb 9, 2009 4:34 PM EST reply actions
Faber will get the next title shot, and then defend against Aldo or Fabiano. WEC FW div isn’t that deep, so spread out the matches some. Also, wouldn’t be surprised to see more UFC LW move down.
