Josh Neer is 'going to bring it win, lose or draw'
Props: UFC.com
Quoteworthy:
"I had nothing to lose. I was going to go in there and bang it out. I was going to go through whatever I had to go through [to get the win].... I knew that I had more heart than him.... Win, lose or draw I'm going to bring it. Anybody that faces me they're going to have to deal with that -- they're going to have to deal with someone who isn't going to lay down. I'm not going to be a stepping stone for anybody."
Josh Neer reflects on his gutty and hard-fought win over Mac Danzig at UFC Fight Night 17: "Lauzon vs. Stephens" last night at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. The toothless "Dentist" walked through punches and delivered some of his own to put on another exciting performance. In fact, it earned him and Danzig "Fight of the Night" honors and $30,000 each in extra bonus money. It was the second straight such award for Neer -- he and Nate Diaz put on a three-round thriller back in December. Who would you like to see him take on next? Tell us in the comments section below.

I have to say Neer looked FABULOUS last night! I knew he was the tougher MAN, but I didnt realize just how skilled he is. when I think Neer, I think HEART….but like Rogan was pointing out, I need to start acknowledging his skills as well. His jits is getting very good, and he looked good at times in the stand up!
Love watching Danzig lose!

I would love to see Neer vs. Florian. Once Florian loses to BJ and gets bumped down a notch on the LW ladder, maybe they will match him up with Neer if he wins his next fight. I would really like to see that match up!

It would also be interesting to see how L-lau would do against Neer!

Dude Huerta lost one fight and it was by boring decision. He’s been fed too many cans but he is a good brawler and decent wrestler.
by Cogito_Ergo_Sum on Feb 9, 2009 8:50 AM EST up reply actions
It was a crazy imposition of his will. Reminds me of Diego when he’s in full Ordained-by-God mode.

I agree – Huerta! Either him or Clay “HuggieBear” Guida. Let’s see him try and hug Neer to a decision.
by Drumz on Feb 8, 2009 11:08 AM EST reply actions
I think Huerta quit MMA to pursue acting for awhile. I don’t think Huerta is an option at this point.

This guy is one tough SOB, he showed it in the diaz fight and he showed it in this fight.
I think Guida would be a good fight, they have to give Guida someone he can lose to and Neer will do the job.
by Toad on Feb 8, 2009 11:40 AM EST reply actions
not sure that he would beat the energizer bunny that is clay guida saying as Nate Diaz beat Josh and Guida just beat nate….and yes i kno that doesnt mean anything but i still think clay would eek out a decision
by Randy for Couture on Feb 8, 2009 11:49 AM EST reply actions
There are not too many fighters that can take the beating that Nate does and still end up winning the fight. I don’t think Guida could. Neers’ stand up would give Guida as much trouble as Nate did, but Neer seems to have a lot more power than Nate who was compltely dominating the stand up.

He showed a remarkable lack of class in the ring. Someone hire this guy a PR manager.
by mike on Feb 8, 2009 11:56 AM EST reply actions
yea it’s one thing showboat and it’s another thing to look like an ass..
by RoB on Feb 8, 2009 12:21 PM EST up reply actions
lack of class?? i don’t agree, the guy has been around forever and comes to fight. he’s a showman. u ever see the lytle v lawler fight, or the sell v smith fight, those guys were jacked up about putting on a show. neer just wanted to bang and danzig understandably did not. all he did was swing his hand a bit and then tell danzig to bring it. rashad has done far worse. Neer knew he needed an impressive performance and a great show, win or lose to stick around the UFC. If it was a dull fight and he lost a decision it wouldn’t surprise me if he got cut so i have no problem with this stuff. I thought Danzig looked good too, crisp in the standup but Neer was on a mission and looked phenomenal. He looked great in the Diaz fight too.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 12:44 PM EST up reply actions
At the beginning of he first round Danzig stuck out his glove to touch wth him and he just ignored it and didnt touch gloves. Thats not a good display of sportsmanship.
by RiverHorror on Feb 8, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions
gimme a break guys, why does everyone want these guys to be robots? some guys touch gloves and hug afterwards, some don’t. he was focused on the fight.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 2:31 PM EST up reply actions
And it worked! He got in Danzig’s head and was able to get him out of his game. Joe Rogan even commented on it, he was able to get Danzig to play his game. Mac was getting the better of him when it was a technical striking match, but when Neer was able to draw him into a brawl it played right into his strengths. It may not be the classiest approach, but he is very entertaining and talented. And with the experience he has at just 25 years old he could quickly become a contender at 155.
by GregC on Feb 8, 2009 2:43 PM EST up reply actions
If a guy doesn’t want to play all nice before punching a guy in the face what’s the big deal about it. I could really care less if they touch gloves at the beginning of each round. They are there to fight not make friends. And who would want to touch Danzig hand anyway? You might get effeminate liberal PETA all over you.
by DDT on Feb 8, 2009 3:00 PM EST up reply actions
Great post CROWLS!! TOtally agree. I like the difference in attitudes. Some fighters show a lot of sportsman ship and class, acting like pro athletes….Some other guys act like FIGHTERS! I like the different personalities and approaches
by john on Feb 8, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions
I bet if it was Rashad who didn’t touch gloves with an opponent, there would be an uproar from those bunch of whiners who were so upset and crying that he grabbed his crotch for a split second in the heat of the moment. There always seems to be a seperate rule when its a fighter you hate on. WTF.
by Ade on Feb 9, 2009 4:21 PM EST up reply actions
I agree that he didn’t show any sportsmanship at all.
He pretty much ignored Danzig after the fight even after Danzig picked him up and conceded his own loss.
It’s one thing to be a warrior during the battle but you need to show some class after.
by DubNub on Feb 8, 2009 1:08 PM EST up reply actions
Danzig is a smug prick. Neer went in there and got the job done. If u watch TUF, you’ll know Danzig pretty much thinks he’s God’s gift to MMA. So what if Neer didn’t turn around and hug the guy.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 2:32 PM EST up reply actions
Danzig is one of the worse also , he always rolls his eyes when ppl are gnp him or he cant get up .. He drops his hands alot in fights showing the other fighters no respect for their stand up.
Dont act like this guy is a class act , please.. Watch the Bocek or Guida fight for further proof.
by dayzah on Feb 8, 2009 3:28 PM EST up reply actions
I don’t give a sh*t about showing class or sportsmanship cause it’s a show, there’s no need to show respect and stuff like that.. but for his own good i have to say that he really looked like an ass out there and it wasn’t the same thing as when the Diaz bro’s do their thing or when Rashad does his thing.. It’s not about what you do it’s about who you are! and Neer just ain’t cool, he looks like and acts like a retarded criminal..
by RoB on Feb 8, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions
that makes no sense dude, so nate giving the double fingers, talking all sorts of shit, or rashad dancing around like an ass totally disrespecting his opponent is ok because you like them. weak argument Rob. With that said, I like just about all of this stuff except for how Rashad acted when he was on TUF. Hughes put him in his place for that. I love the guys who have personality, and I love guys who put on a show. Neer always comes to fight. You call him a criminal??? cuz of a DUI, come on man, it’s a shitty stupid thing to do, but so many ppl get em.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 7:47 PM EST up reply actions
my argument as i said, it’s not about what you do it’s about who you are, and Neer is a retarded tough guy without teeths..
by RoB on Feb 8, 2009 8:25 PM EST up reply actions
Neer is the toughest man I have ever met. Im not saying that he will ever be a champ. If U want to see the best mma fight I ever seen look up the vfc, when neer and spencer fisher fought. it was 25 minutes of pure hell. 565 strikes landed on the feet between the two. Josh’s head was a lump from his eye to the back of his head and he never gave up. and I still think he won that fight.

by deadgrassinyard on Feb 8, 2009 2:16 PM EST up reply actions
I was never a fan of Neers before this fight, now I straight up hate him.
What a jack ass. Also Danzig was way more technical then Neer on the feet he was landing solid combinations and planted him on his ass with that one right.
Neer seemed like he was “man, stop with that boxing shit let’s fight”

J-lau said he wanted somone tough. Or Huerta, that’d be a nice scrappy fight
by Wingblade on Feb 8, 2009 1:30 PM EST reply actions
Completely agree, But I dont think J-lau would want to stand and trade with Neer. Huerta on the other hand would make for a good stand up war. Either way Neer is good on the ground and on the feet so either would make for a good fight.
by Matt25 on Feb 8, 2009 1:36 PM EST up reply actions
i think it has to be joe, for the only reason that fight would no doubt propel a new challenger to the top of a division and add another gatekeeper
by randy murders on Feb 8, 2009 1:56 PM EST up reply actions
ive got neer in that match up! no way does joe submit him, and no way he wins the standup… easy money on neer
by brendan on Feb 8, 2009 4:38 PM EST up reply actions
I do wish Neer would change his attitude a bit. Those people paid for there ticket so he really shouldnt have said anything at all. In fact those people pay his salery. The taunting he done in the cage with Danzig didnt bother me, every fighter gets hyped when your in there and the adrinaline is flowing. But I dont think he should have confronted the crowd after the fight about them booing him. Like I said they paid there money, shut up and let them boo.
by Matt25 on Feb 8, 2009 1:40 PM EST reply actions
I think they might have bveen mainly booing beacause he didn’t touch gloves in the second round when Danzing had his hand out. I couldn’t wait for Danzing to knock him out after that, but unfortunately it didn’t happen. I noticed there seem to be a few people who dislike Danzing and cannot wait for him to lose. Why is that, he comes across as a pretty decent guy, am I missing something, or is it just beacuse people are using the non meat eating thing as a reason to hate?

Neer v Spencer Fisher would be an awesome fight – although I would also like to see Fisher fight Guida as well.
by efisher on Feb 8, 2009 1:56 PM EST reply actions
Neer has already fought Spencer Fisher (Neer lost a split decision) – They became best friends and started training together after.
Neer vs Lauzon, or Gray Maynard

although florian deserves a title shot. i would love to see neer vs. florian.
by day1er on Feb 8, 2009 2:21 PM EST reply actions
it’d be a bad matchup for florian. although i think he’s top 3 in the division, neer is just so tough and scrappy, it’d be tough to KO or sub him. like when joe daddy burnt himself on a knee bar and ended up losing to him.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 2:35 PM EST up reply actions
I’d love to see that fight if Neer wins his next fight and Florian loses to BJ. It would either propel Neer close to a shot of his own or be a great rebound for Kenny. I think it would be very competitive and tough to call.
by GregC on Feb 8, 2009 2:47 PM EST up reply actions
I think kenflo’s striking has improved a ton. I see him giving BJ some trouble, so needless to say I think he would just pick Neer apart. Neer is tough though, I just dont think he could hang with Kenny.
by Matt25 on Feb 8, 2009 2:51 PM EST up reply actions
normally i’d agree, but Danzig was trying to stay on the outside and pick him apart, he even knocked him down but he never stopped coming. Huerta was similar, but i think Neer is better and more well rounded. Tough fight for Kenny.
by Crowls on Feb 8, 2009 2:52 PM EST up reply actions
If Neer fights like that, I’d like to see him fight Guida. The Carpenter wants Sherk, but I think the Muscle Shark is too strong and too good of a wrestler for Guida. The way Neer pushed the pace in that fight, I can guarantee a fight between him and Guida would win fight of the night honors.
by UFCAddict on Feb 8, 2009 3:24 PM EST reply actions
I think josh neers attitude is just fine. The last two months people who dont know him have been talking alot of shit about him.And now before the fight mac runs his mouth and take personal jabs at josh and other fighters. And josh is called unsportsman like cause he didnt want to toch gloves with mac.
And after josh kicks the shit out of mac,mac changes his tune.
And then you get booed by a bunch of drunks after a awsome performance. All I can say is WAR NEER
by durty kurty on Feb 8, 2009 3:25 PM EST reply actions
Josh neer is a douche, and his perfomance last night solidified it.
Booing is usually awful, but I was glad he got booed last night.
by ShaiZ on Feb 8, 2009 3:43 PM EST up reply actions
Guida vs. Maynard would be better. Who has the tighter hug?
Too close to call.
Neer vs. Fisher.
Neer vs. Edgar.
Those are the fights I want to see.
by scissorfight on Feb 8, 2009 3:44 PM EST reply actions
Funny… didnt mark miller drop neer? It was a sick knockout. Neer is a fighter no doubt but his attitude sucks.
by johnny on Feb 8, 2009 4:10 PM EST reply actions
Neer vs Edgar? That doesn’t even slightly entice me. I don’t like the thought of Neer vs Guida, Maynard or Edgar. I think Neer should fight someone like Joe Lauzon or Roger Huerta. A name that has had success or is on a win streak. Also Guida is a little ahead of Josh in the division.
by Brandon on Feb 8, 2009 4:20 PM EST reply actions
A win streak like losing to Kenny Florian? That kind of win streak?
Huerta lost his last fight ass, where as Edgar beat Franca.
That fight was actually entertaining.
Huerta has only one fight left and it will be against a big name so the ufc can get the most out of him.
War Edgar!

Edgar is like watching paint dry. He is boring to watch. Sorry to say it. “A win streak like losing to Kenny Florian? That kind of win streak?” Sorry that was what 9 months ago? Coming off two straight wins against Kyle Bradley and Jeremy Stephens while on National tv? So yes 2 is a streak. I agree Huerta should get a big fight but do u think the UFC is going to put much into a guy who might not possibly be with them for over a year? Yeah right…I wouldnt be surprised to see Edgar hug all over him for 3 rounds..And I said someone with a name or a win streak. Fighting someone on a losing streak or a newcomer does nothing.
by Brandon on Feb 8, 2009 7:05 PM EST reply actions
He doesn’t deserve a shot at Lauzon yet. How about Tibau?
by scissorfight on Feb 8, 2009 8:16 PM EST reply actions
Macs hands were much crisper against clay Guido. He was throwing weak lobbing punches against Neer. Neer looked sharper and had more grit. He overwhelmed him

Josh neer is the toughest man I have ever met. The guy fought 90 am. Fights before turning Pro. The spencer Fisher and neer fight in the vfc was the best fight I have ever seen. On tv or in person a combined 545 strikes landed on there feet and they fought for 25 minutes. In my opionion neer won that fight even if he was lumped up from his eye to the back of his head.

Josh neer is the toughest man I have ever met. 90 am. fights before turning pro at the age of 21? He would fight three fights a night every weekend as an am. the spencer fisher josh neer fight in the vfc was the best fight I have ever seen on ppv or in person. 565 strikes landed on there feet in a 25 minute fight. Neer in my opinion won that fight but he was lumped up from his eye to the back of his head. Josh moved to davenport after that and lived with spencer. they will never fight in the ufc.
