While i agree with most of you guys that this fight was kind of lame… its tough not to like guida, always respectful, and always shows up to fight!

QUICK QUESTION: What was more girly?
Gono’s entrance
or
Guida’s man-hug technique to win rounds?
He was hanging on to Nate rear end and looking at the clock… Since when is that fighting or “octagon control”.
Clay will forever be referred to by me as “Huggie Bear” from here on out……..

I agree VM. Mac Danzig and Nate Diaz are both much better fighters than Guida. I can’t stand his style, and I can’t stand watching him hug(not fight).lol

sure it wasn’t exactly exciting, but he did get his back more than once, stuffed him against the cage, few takedowns, one nice slam and a few elbows, he fought an intelligent fight!

i would say gono was more girlie only for the fact ive never had a woman ass hump me before.

Guida should have been taken to the back of the arena and SHOT DEAD!!!! Biggest card in mma history, and thats how you perform? THats a loss in my book…Props to Nate for actually trying to fight!
its OFFICIAL: Clay “Huggie Bear” Guida!

How about Guida thanking every single person he new at the post fight interview. He sounded like he was making an oscar acceptance speech!
The one person you shouldnt thank is his Barber!

While watching live, during Huggie Bear’s interview, at the same exact time my brother and I said that they need to start playing the music like they do at the Academy awards to cut thier speeches short.
Either that, or the tap dancing guy from The Appollo.
WOP WOP!!!!!! WOP WOP!!!!!!!!!!! WOP WOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agreed, i’m sick of watching this guy. his style is highly effective. however the wet blanket approach makes me wanna leave the room and funnel beers while he’s fighting. I’m sick of hearing how he pushes he pace…etc. he applies an insane amount of pressure on his opponent but rarely does damage and flat out bores the shit out of me. wrestling is lame…it does not finish a fight. his gnp is weak as hell too.

I agree, I got tackled 100 thousand times in football but never considered it “a beating”. Terrible, terrible day for MMA when tackling becomes a winning routine.

I cannot believe this won fight of the night!!! Guida by hugging was not one of the choices on UFC’s fantasy site! Diaz did way more in this fight and should have won. I used to like Guida, but I cant say that I care to watch him fight anymore!
by ---Caesar--- on Feb 1, 2009 3:56 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Painful world? All he did was hug him. I absolutely hate Diaz but it was clear that he was in no danger that entire fight.
by Budgell on Feb 1, 2009 3:56 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
What exactly did Diaz do that won the fight for him? Nothing, and the judges saw it that way too, so too bad so sad for Diaz.
by Sean M on Feb 1, 2009 3:58 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He did more damage in the stand up and he attempted way more submissions… all Guida did was hug him and watch the clock!
by ---Caesar--- on Feb 1, 2009 4:13 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
He threw Guida twice in an uneventful 2nd and clearly won the 3rd. Fucking joke of a decisiom

Diaz hit him more times in round three then Guida did mounting Diaz like he was a bitch in heat and he was the only dog in town. I’m do tired of Guida and his boring lay-n-pray offense. Yeah it works and it negates other fighters offense but on the same side of the coin it does nothing offensively in his favor.

guida took the role of being most boring fighter in the world and ran with it.. hes scared to take people down because his submission defense is not that great, and he cant strike for shit so he had to clinch the entire fight i get his gameplan but hes a boring fighter

i thought bonnar jones was a hell of exciting fight and shoudlve got fight of the night or the co fight because i havent seen the doomsday wilson fight
by Jared on Feb 1, 2009 4:02 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I agree that fight was great. As soon as Jones learns some submissions and gets a little more gas in his tank, he is gona start rolling people.
Yeah Guida just held the whole fight, it was sad.

and realises when bonnars out cold hit him at least once or twice and the fight dont leave the first round

I was also impressed, but disappointed in his dirty fight techniques. Knee shunts, blind elbows to the back of the head, knees to a downed opponent, this guy needs some discipline.
by Gankaho on Feb 2, 2009 2:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I can’t stand watching Guida fight. All he does is hold people against the fence, and when he does get the takedown, he’s unable to do anything from there. I was outraged when he beat Danzig and I was upset when he beat Nate. It’s not that I don’t like wrestlers in MMA, but his striking skills are poor and his fights always go to a decision. I can’t stand watching him fight.

well said
I don’t want to see Guida fighting on main card ppv ever again

This should have won “Rob Job” of the night. People who are stating Guida won are not watching the fight objectively. Nate Diaz outstruck Guida standing by at least 30 punches. Now, if Guida imposed his will on Diaz on the ground, I could see how that wouldnt matter. The bottomline is, the fight went wherever Diaz wanted it to. In the 1st round, after teeing off for about 15 unanswered strikes, Diaz made the mistake of pulling guard. Regardless, the fight went to the ground b/c of Diaz’ choice. Guida tried numerous times to take Diaz down and Diaz imposed his will and stood his ground while Guida hugged his back and mounted zero offense. Hugging ones back is not Octagon control. The offense Guida mounted was the neck crank in the first round which appeared to be by accident. When Diaz decided the fans deserve better, at the start of the 3rd round, he decided the fight would remain standing, which it did. Guida was so exhausted, Diaz ran another stand up clinic for the entire round.
by Drumz on Feb 1, 2009 4:16 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
exactly and diaz was landing slams of his own so takedowns shoudlve cancelled out. guida landed on little fury of gnp and that did shit all. diaz rocked him a few times and tried for sum submissions. i agree it was close but i wouldve the nudge to diaz. oh well clay used to be fun to watch now hes just becoming some boring ass blanket.

I really never want to see Guida fight again. Great person, horrible fighter.

I think this a little harsh for a guy who has put on some of the best fights in recent history. I mean guida vs. Huerta, and Guida vs. griffin were some of the most entertaining fights ever.

I heard their thinking of modifying the point systems in mma. Don’t know how true it is but maybe it’s necessary for guys like Gray Maynard and Clay as well. I would pissed if all a guy did was hug me, get top position and did zero damage.
Although Nates power looked pretty pedestrian to me.

i say neither of them did enough to win the fight, but i am glad diaz lost. Cant stand that families attitude… i wanted to see diaz on the mat catching up on some sleep

sorry but guida isnt gonna put anyone to sleep, ever. as long as he keeps that style.

Ref needs to not let him hug so fucken much….seriously hugging is not mma punch go for a sub do someshit besides fucken hug him!! Nate shouldve gotten the win this only promotes that gay ass style of hugging(not fighting hugging).

Guida and Karo/Kim ruined the night.
by Lester the Pimp on Feb 1, 2009 5:27 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
karo and kim are both judokas though they attempted throws just totally nullified each others skills it was a technical fight guida had no technique

Sean M – What fight were you watching?
I understand you might be a fan and everyone loves Guida as a person but let me echo what has been said and what happened… he hugged him and watched the clock, one full nelson applied!
Diaz outstruck him, constantly got up, had his own takedowns, numerous submission attempts, bad decision…
I know everyone loves Guida but they would boo the shit out of %90 of fighters that fought like that and I didn’t hear many last night…
I thought the Kim/Karo decision went the wrong way but what I can’t understand is how neither of them went all out at the end of the third when it was obvious it was close with Kim winning the 1st and Karo the 2nd…
BJ got smashed!!! I was rooting for him but oh well, GSP is cool guys as well so good for him…
Machida was most impressive last night
P.S. maybe I don’t watch Guida enough but does he always let out the Booger Presley burps in between rounds?

Guida the Motley Crue roadie more or less introduced Diaz to his world of hug and pray. He looked like he was holding on to a speaker cab during the set up of Crue’ s last world tour. No props to him or Karo whatsoever for “winning” their fights.

I don’t care that the fight was boring , just happy to see that punk thug diaz lose. Nothing worse than wiggers and ghetto fucks. I love when I heard nate diaz’s voice for the first time on ultimate fighter with his slurry lisp and ebonics, hope he makes enough money in his ufc career because if not he’s has McDonald’s or Subway in his near future.
by guy on Feb 2, 2009 1:10 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Karo and Kim was ten times better than Guida and Diaz.
Ironically it was the judo throws in Guida and Diaz that was the most entertaining part about it.
Jones and Machida saved the night, point blank.
They both put on great performances sans Jones gassin in 3rd, but he is only 21, and technically 6 of his wins are from 2 nights.
So in reality the kid has only been to a fight 4 times now. Two tournaments and only his second UFC fight, so his cardio will get a lot better.
Machida put a sock in everyones mouth basically, all the people saying he cant finish he is boring etc, that was one of the best eliminations of an aggressive striker I have seen in MMA, he was not even touched and ending up knocking him down 2(3?) times in the round before KO’ing him Shogun style over Overeem.
by DirtyML on Feb 2, 2009 1:55 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I am no fan of Machida, but that was a pretty sick KO.

I thought Diaz should have won the fight on his three hip tosses in the 2nd round alone. All Guida did was wrap his arms around him from behind and hang on. As far as aggresivness goes I though Nate should have won this fight, he was trying the whole fight to make something happen & Guida just hels on. Really bad fight and for a guy with so much energy maybe he should try and fight exciting. Diaz got burned!!!!!!!!!
by Spyder on Feb 2, 2009 10:04 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
This fight sucked it was not “Fight of the Night.” Guida’s style is purely about takedowns and yet he isnt a good wrestler, so he just hangs on your ass like a barnacle for 15 minutes.
by subwayy2sallyy on Feb 2, 2009 11:33 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
People like Guida because of the work ethic or intensity he brings, but there a lot of fighters who are much more dynamic in doing so, Chris Lytle comes to mind.
by Legitimate on Feb 2, 2009 7:45 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I’m over Guida, and his hair. For someone known for being highly intense, he sure does a lot of nothin. Nate Diaz is a mastermind with his submissions, its a shame he didnt break Guida’s arm.
