Well now the WEC has to get her. Pretty big for MMA but not sure about the impact on women’s MMA.

Got some more interesting statistics for you guys:

(This chart shows the) number of takedowns landed divided by the number attempted. This is a simple ratio of an opponents’ takedown success rate.

    Georges St. Pierre: 15%
    BJ Penn: 36%
    Rashad Evans: 38%
    Anderson Silva: 41%
    Machida: 19.5%

Machida’s Opponents have landed just 8 of 41 career takedown attempts against Machida, a success rate of just 19.5%. That is not much worse than St. Pierre, whose takedown defense is perhaps the best in MMA history. And it’s actually better than Fedor’s number, which stands a

Machida has NEVER been knocked down in a fight AND he’s only lost one round on one judge’s score card in his career:

The 10-point must system produces nine measurements for each fight that goes to a decision (three rounds each for three judges). So in five decisions, there have been 45 measured rounds upon which judges have given their verdict.

Machida’s record on that scale is 44-1. In all of his UFC fights (and assuming a win in the first round against Sokoudjou), Machida has not lost a single round on a single judge’s scorecard. He has only won by scores of 30-27. You have to go back more than two years to find a round in which a judge said he lost. In his WFA fight against Vernon White

Did anyone notice Karo making the sign of the cross before stepping on the scale at the weigh ins? LMFAO, LOL. HAHAHAHA Heheheheh! He knows he is fat and under trained! HIs head is a mess right now! Karo = Paulo Filho= Head cases!

Stun Gun dominated Matt Brown in the 1st round, then gassed and brown made a fight out of it! This tells me that stun Gun will come into this fight in much better shape then previous bouts. This means, Karo’s fat, out of shape, ass is in for a long night! Stun Gun will win this fight!

What up PW? Do you second my nomination for a new nickname for Karo?

by john on Jan 31, 2009 1:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

thats a pretty good one, did you put any money on stun gun? i got him when he was at +250 so hopefully i will get some money on him. I really would love a knock out.

I like gsp but i bet if you looked harder at when BJ was actually taken down, it would be in the later rounds when he was gassed, so his number is a little skewed.

I also feel like to the mainstream Machida needs stop a fighter to be come a legit fighter

Agree john! As far as Machida – i don’t think the statistics paint the whole picture about the quality of takedowns he was defending. I don’t see any dynamic wrestlers on his ledger. Also clinch takedowns are the way to go with him, shooting from far on a counterfighter especially one as elusive as him just sounds retarded to me.

Terrible seeing the timeless Dylan with an atrocity such as “will.i.am”

I wonder how good bruce lee would have done in mma

by The Philicutioner on Jan 31, 2009 1:16 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I bet he would have been just as important to the sport as Helio was. That would have been a fight to see Lee vs Helio. Lee was one of the first that said you can not just depend be one dicipline.

I wanna see Karo fight fitch. If they both win tonight why not? I’d give it fitch but it be a good fight.

anthony johnston vs mike swick please.

Thiago alves has beaten kar, matt H and kos in his last 3 fights. If he wins one more will he be in all this p4p talk?

Adam G if you’re out there or someone wants to track him down send the completed lists to fan@mmamania.com along with a brief write up about their inception and purpose or just go grade school and give me the five W’s so I can promote it to the front page as a post.

Maybe I’m getting old but I hate that they always try to spice up classic songs with a rap solo or an annoying techno beat…

by Jesse Holland on Jan 31, 2009 3:50 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I agree. Nice way of screwing up a Dylan song by making a Will I. Aint remix out of it. It reminds me of along time ago when Puff Daddy or whatever the fuck his name is now made that rip off song from the Police’s “I’ll Be Watching You” and Sting came on and sang the chorus from The Police version of the song. I was embarrassed for Sting. Anyway, I’m guessing this is not one of the better commercials they will be showing. Also, Cankles Carano was looking a little heavy in that video.

These types of ads only serve to reinforce the false idea of “the good ’ole days”. Will.I.Am is this generation’s Bob Dylan? Laughable. Gina does get the sexy points over Bruce Lee though… how about an all-female version of the Green Hornet & Kato? ;)

Gina should have been told to report to filming topless.

IF MIXED MARTIAL ARTS EVER HAD A FATHER, IT WOULD BE BRUCE LEE… A QUOTE FROM DANA WHITE PRESIDENT OF UFC… BRUCE LEE STUDIED MANY DIFFERENT STYLES OF FIGHTING TECHNIQUES FROM TRADITIONAL MARTIAL ARTS OF KUNG FU, KARATE,JUDO, JUJITSU TO BOXING. BRUCE LEE IS THE MASTER AND AN ICON WHO FIRST COMBINED THE BEST OF ALL KNOWN FIGHTING SYSTEMS INTO WHAT MANY YOUNG MMA/UFC FIGHTERS ARE TRAINED AND INSPIRED TO BECOME. A MULTIFACETED FIGHTER LIKE GINA CARANO…CONGRAD GINA, YOU HAVE ARRIVED ON WORLD STAGE!!!
