UFC 94 weigh in results for 'St. Pierre vs Penn 2'

The official weigh-in event for UFC 94: "St. Pierre vs. Penn 2" took place earlier today in front of a packed (and very vocal) house at The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, at 7pm ET.
All 20 fighters set to compete on the card made their respective marks on the scale. Both Stephan Bonnar and Clay Guida gave the crowd something to whisper about after a few extra seconds on the scale, but each fighter quickly ditched their socks and tried again, just squeaking in under the limit.
While the event had its share of heated staredowns, including the much ballyhooed face-off between UFC champions Georges St. Pierre and BJ Penn, no extra-curricular activities took place on stage - though a divided crowd took turns chanting for both Penn and GSP.
It should be noted that Karo Parisyan, already under close scrutiny for his anxiety issues, looked considerably out of shape after disrobing.
Here are the complete UFC 94 weigh in results:
170 lbs.: Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (170) vs. lightweight champion BJ Penn (168)
205 lbs.: Lyoto Machida (206) vs. Thiago Silva (206)
205 lbs.: Stephan Bonnar (206) vs. Jon Jones (206)
155 lbs.: Nate Diaz (156) vs. Clay Guida (156)
170 lbs.: Karo Parisyan (170) vs. Dong Hyun "Stun Gun" Kim (171)
170 lbs.: Jon Fitch (171) vs. Akihiro Gono (171)
155 lbs.: Manny Gamburyan (155) vs. Thiago Tavares (155)
170 lbs.: Chris Wilson (170) vs. John Howard (171)
265 lbs.: Jake O’Brien (205) vs. Christian Wellisch (206)
170 lbs.: Matt "No Regard" Arroyo (171) vs. Daniel Cramer (171)
Note: Fighters are allowed to weigh one pound more than the division limit in non-title fights.
Remember that MMAmania.com will provide LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the main card action on fight night, which is slated to air at 10 p.m. ET on pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas tomorrow (Jan. 31).
Of course, the latest quick updates of the prelim bouts will begin to flow earlier than that at around 8pm ET.
It’s going to be a memorable night of fights -- the most anticipated in recent history for the promotion ... perhaps the sport. Be sure to check us out for all the pre, during and post-fight coverage you can handle.

John, i read the machida/silva interview earlier today, i really liked it and i wish they would have more fighters interview and ask each other questions more often. I also wish that site was totally in eng and not translated.
I cant wait for tomorrow night, i really want gsp to win but i really think it could be a legendary card all around.

JV&BNF: did you guys see lorenzos guns in that interview with anik? impressive. i thought bj and gsp looked exactly how i imagined at the weigh-ins. john is right, karo did look a little more chunky than his usual chunky self (not good, with all the bad rumors about him). the guida/diaz staredown was intense! that could be fight of the night. other than that no surprises here. it’s finally here boys, the greatest mma fight of our era! hope it lives up to the hype. :)

Franklin McNeil broke it. He also said that IF Penn wins he gets to choose which title to defend so his next fight will be either Alves or Florian probably in May. And the other nice nugget is Rampage is still No. 1 contender at LHW no matter what happens with Machida/Silva tonight.

by kevin on Jan 30, 2009 10:00 PM EST up reply actions
Do you guys really think GSP doesn’t know how to cut weight? He has only done it his WHOLE career. He always looks emaciated and smaller the day before. This is the biggest fight of his career and I seriously doubt that he would risk this fight by having to cut too much weight. Its gonna be a great fight. GSP!
by Jake on Jan 30, 2009 10:10 PM EST up reply actions
I’m just making an observation, I personally have never seen him look that small
by kevin on Jan 30, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, GSP will be huge tomorrow, and he will not run out of energy. He is a master at cutting weight. He will probably have almost 20 lbs on BJ come fight time.
by LJ on Jan 30, 2009 10:15 PM EST up reply actions
Kevin, you’re probably right and the reason is probably because he did cut more weight. He looked huge on primetime, bigger than ever. Rashad didn’t look that much bigger. Maybe it will hurt him more than it will help him, but I doubt it, he treats everything with scientific precision. I think we will see the biggest most explosive GSP ever, his kicks in training looked fast and leathal. BJ is in big trouble, because he sucks at defending leg kicks and GSP will feed him plenty.

by randy murders on Jan 30, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions
If Karo is dealing with anxiety attacks, a sports psychologist might help a little, but he’d be better off going to a real psychiatrist. If it’s anxiety, it sounds like it a debilitating form of anxiety attacks, and a sports psychologist probably wont fix him. If it’s just the medication he’s on being a problem, I don’t see why he wouldnt fight.
Either way, when he came out, I thought he looked bad. He never comes in looking ripped, but, I thought to myself, “That looks like your average dude who works out once a week.” Not good for Karo. He needs to get his crap together.

by introvert on Jan 30, 2009 8:57 PM EST reply actions
No way this fight goes to a decision. You’re right BJ is gassing, that’s why it won’t go to a decision. Bank on it. It’s not even because BJ will have bad cardio, it’s because everyone gasses at GSP’s relentless pace.
by Gord on Jan 30, 2009 11:59 PM EST up reply actions
BJ looked soft! I wanted him to come in at a cut 160. He’s not in shape

Yeah BJ looked a little squishy around the middle. GSP looked ripped and ready to go. Great fight tomorrow night. GSP! GSP! GSP!
by NorthStar on Jan 30, 2009 9:05 PM EST up reply actions
BJ didn’t look soft. He looks more cut at 155 because of the water loss from the weight cut. I guarantee that Bj will be in excellent shape for this fight. When you look at his previous fights at 170, THEN he looked soft and flabby. His stomach was still flat today, just not as ripped. BJ

by Bennie on Jan 30, 2009 9:22 PM EST up reply actions
bennie i agree with you 100% i see bj winning this one late by georges gassing, he looked REALLY bad at the weigh ins, really cut but dehydrated like no other
by randy murders on Jan 30, 2009 9:41 PM EST up reply actions
disagree totally, he looks pretty much the same as his last weigh-ins to me. And you are the first person out of thousands and thousands of posts to say GSP will gas. Keep grasping at straws, he can go ten 5 min rounds.
by Jake on Jan 30, 2009 9:54 PM EST up reply actions
GSP knows how to cut weight. He does it for every fight. I dont think he messed it up this time. I am sure he will look and feel good tomorrow.
by NorthStar on Jan 30, 2009 9:57 PM EST up reply actions
It doesn’t matter what either one of them looks like today, GSP will be able to go five rounds and keep the pressure on the entire time, the only problem is I can’t see him being tested to go that long with BJ? If BJ makes it past the third round he’ll be a sitting duck for Gearge. BJ’s only hope is to get GSP early. Can’t see it happening though.
by Beaver on Jan 30, 2009 10:46 PM EST up reply actions
Bennie, I’m not sure what you’re smoking, but there is a 0% chance that GSP will gas before BJ. I don’t know what you’re basing that statement on, because it’s certainly not history or facts. Anyone who thinks BJ looked better than Georges is delusional.
by GregC on Jan 31, 2009 3:32 AM EST up reply actions
I’m high on life baby! The weight cut is going ruin georges. He cut too much!
Bad comparison, but remember when Brandon Vera cut weight the first time to 205. He looked awful. I know Georges is a better cutter, but I think he got too nervous and put on too much weight.
We will see if Georges can make it to round 4 how he looks. 1st 3 rounds he will be fine.
I thought Houston Alexander looked better than Thiago Silva too!
Looking better doesn’t = win
by Bennie on Jan 31, 2009 12:35 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah but Brandon Vera had never fought at 205 before, GSP has been fighting at 170 his whole career. He’s among the best at cutting weight in all of MMA, I don’t think he’s going to have any problems in the fight
by GregC on Jan 31, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions
To me he looks better than the last time he fought at 170. Was anybody really expecting him to be shredded? It’s not an indication of how his cardio is right now.
by MongoMan on Jan 30, 2009 9:14 PM EST up reply actions
No kidding. Cardio doesn’t coincide with body fat percentage, although there is typically a correlation.

Last comment before D-Day! I’ve always been a huge GSP fan, but could always respect BJ’s skill. I know BJ was just trying to play head games, but IMO he crossed the line from looking for an edge to simply being a d*ck. As I’ve said before, you can be a champ with such antics, but you’ll never go down as a legend. Champs simply hold a title; legends are the champs that you want your kids to look up to. That said, as bad as it sounds, I not only want GSP to win, but I want BJ humiliated. GSP by TKO in the 4th!

WEIGH-INS:
Were great, as usual, outclassing Affliction’s weigh-ins easily!
- I thought BJ would come in looking alot better than he did…
- GSP is a monster and shredded as usual
- Karo is out of shape BUT he always is, that being said i thought FOR HIM he looked good…
-Thiago Silva did not look as good as he normally does, hes even got handles now…
- Guida looks like he put on some muscle, can’t wait to see him rip that string bean apart!
-Fitch and Gono was Hilarious, can’t wait (TOO BAD IT"S ON THE UNDERCARD, WTF DANA)
Based SIMPLY AND SOLEY on what the weigh-ins look like i’d have to go with GSP, LYOTO, FITCH, GUIDA…
SIDE NOTE: Akihiro Gono is ripped BUT he only has a 3 pack! HIS left side has 3 abs but his right is flat and none show, WTF LOL!!!!
FINAL PICKS:
50/50 GSP/PENN (i just wanna see an EPIC fight)
Lyoto
Fitch
Karo
Bonnar
Guida

All you people that think GSP looks “small” and “dehydrated” make me laugh. All you BJ fans that actually think he’s gonna beat GSP are completely delusional. GSP is going to run right thru BJ, and he won’t need to take him to the ground to do it. Watching that 3rd Primetime episode made me laugh when you look at the guys GSP is training with vs the guys BJ is training with. GSP is training with Marquardt and Rashad….BJ is training with Troy Mandaloniz….what a joke. GSP is gonna destroy BJ, and BJ deserves the ass whooping he’s gonna take.
by kg on Jan 30, 2009 10:01 PM EST reply actions
funny you mention that episode, my wife is going for gsp, has trained with bj, and her first comment after watching the last episode was how sloppy GSP looked in there with Rashad. I know it’s practice, practice, practice, but as the saying goes: you practice how you play!
by kevin on Jan 30, 2009 10:09 PM EST up reply actions
how’d he look sloppy? are you kidding me?! they showed like 20 secs of their training session. your wife is a joke to make a statement like that.
Now don’t get ur panties all twisted. I’m saying she’s not smart for making that statement not that she’s “a joke” as a person. I’m sure she’s a fine lady and I don’t mean to start any fights on here. I’m simply saying that’s not a smart thing to say.
by Anthony on Jan 31, 2009 12:48 PM EST up reply actions
so true, I have been saying this all along. Troy Mandaloniz is a moron, all he kept saying is that “GSP has nobody as good as BJ in his camp, BJ would smash all those guys”. Duh, dumbass and who at BJ’s camp is as good as GSP? Keep running rocks underwater and training with Kendall Grove and Justin McCully! LOL.
by Jake on Jan 30, 2009 10:15 PM EST up reply actions
No one wants to see one fighter with two titles only defending each once a year. That’d could ruin 2 divisions at once. I’m not too worried though because GSP is too good all around. His balance will help him end the fight in the late rounds. and GO CARDS!!! Pittsburgh is a horrible city…..
by Dman087953 on Jan 30, 2009 10:05 PM EST reply actions
I am worried about BJ after watching that. GSP is fighting with world class fighters week in and week out.
BJ meanwhile uses Troy Mandaloniz (no disrespect to Troy – but he isn’t Rashad Evans).
Also – it seems like this Firaz guy is in BJ’s head… instead of threatening GSP… now BJ is focused on his trainer?
All of this just looks a little off. Not sure that his camp and training regimen is nearly as thorough and professional as GSPs.
Thoughts?
by MMAkidCANADA on Jan 30, 2009 10:14 PM EST reply actions
I think it matters to a point. Just becaus georges has slightly better competition in his camp doesn’t mean he is training better.
Look at Lyoto Machida. He trains well and doesn’t have a million great fighters around. Look at Anderson Silva, he trains well. I don’t see people talking about all the amazing guys Silva trains with.
There is more to training than who you train with.
Intesity, passion, skill sets, natural abilities, focus, etc.
I put training parters somewhere below those.

BJ at 168 is perfect, the best weight for him going into this. His arms are bigger than GSP’s and those arms are going to land the shots that drop him.

All the BJ wankers should get their clever “BJ BJ BJ BJ BJ BJ” posts up now because this time tomorrow hw will be done like dinner and heading back to Hilo to wash his words down with some of mammys finest coconut juice. He couldn’t put GSP away 3 years ago despite allegedly destroying him in the first and he will have even less of a chance today.
As far Karyn eerrrr Karo, I was just happy to see porky didn’t start crying at when he saw stun gun at the weighn in. I hope he enjoys armenian goat racing on ppv back at the hotel tonight because I have a feeling he will spend most of tomorrow browning his own knickers.
As for Nate Diaz I’m glad we won’t have to listen to his rediculous voice after Guida knocks the lisp out of his mouth.
Those are my picks. Always bet on Hal.

Anyone else think Stephan Bonnar looked out of shape at the weigh ins? His pecs looked a little flabby. Lets hope the lay off didn’t hurt him too much.

First let me admit I am a huge BJ fan – I have been following him ever since he won the munidals and have had opportunities to roll with his sensei Charuto Verismo, and also being a BJJ competitor – i so admire Bjs accomplishments…that said I think BJ came to the weighins in great looking shape – what I dont get is the same peoples that say BJ looks flabby and GSP looks rip and so on are the same people who 2 weeks were probably hanging from Fedors Nu^& and saying how it doesnt matter that Arllovski looks great – Fedor and BJ have similar body styles….why is that? and dont tell me its becuase BJ has had conditioning problems before – im strictly talking aboiut people deciding what kind of shape BJ is in by the way he looks…
And hindeslty as a BJJ competitor I am 6ft 170 with about 6% BF and I can tell you that the last tourney I was in I got manhandled and outconditioned by a guy who was about 5’9 and looked like he had a donut before hand – I can tell you he was a world class JJ athlete and that is just his body type…..Mark my words, BJ is in great shape…
That said so is GSP – the winner here is me for getting to see this fight
Pulling for BJ

But Fedor doesn’t gas….BJ does.
He’ll be out of this fight by the end of round 2.

Adam G if you’re out there or someone wants to track him down send the completed lists to fan@mmamania.com along with a brief write up about their inception and purpose or just go grade school and give me the five W’s so I can promote it to the front page as a post.
