If Machida wins tomorrow, he will have beaten 3 people on this UFC card and 6 people in the last 2 weeks worth of cards (if you include one very literate Affliction announcer.
by Victory is Ours on Jan 30, 2009 11:31 PM EST reply actions
machida HAS to get a shot at the belt if her wins..
I can’t see anyone else in front of machida after the griffin loss.
Machida first
2nd Thiago Silva (if he beats Machida)
3rd Rampage (if he beats Jardine)
4th Q JAckson (if he KO’s Jardine)
5th Anderson Silva (cause he would beat anyone)
:) :(

How is rampage # 3 if he wins but # 4 if he Knocks out jardine.. I think the latter would be a better outcome for him.

I watched the weigh ins, but I didnt see the part where Rashad grabbed the microphone. What did he say?
by john on Jan 31, 2009 9:36 AM EST up reply actions
Heck yes. That Thiago staredown is the best. Just standing there with his hands on his hips. Priceless.
by wAyNe on Jan 31, 2009 10:23 AM EST up reply actions
almost as priceless as Silva on the mat snoozing away after machida was done with him.
by kitsunex on Feb 1, 2009 2:21 AM EST up reply actions
maybe he got kicked really hard and his abs got f*cked up.

dude, in that pic, Thiago Silva is straight frontin’. I don’t believe for a second he is as confident as he looks there in this fight. I love the guy and think he’s the future of the division, but he knows he can’t win this fight. It’s gonna take a counterpuncher to beat Machida. That’s why I think Rampage will be the first to beat him. Silva’s aggressive style plays right into what Machid will try to do.
War both these guys
Machida Via TKO
by Crowls on Jan 31, 2009 3:35 AM EST up reply actions
he knows he can’t win the fight? who are you kidding, if he didn’t believe in himself he wouldn’t even fight.. and obviously you don’t like the guy at all cause then you would know that he’s going to win! Thiago’s aggressive style will be perfect against Machida! you can write back after the fights done..
by RoB on Jan 31, 2009 4:46 AM EST up reply actions
man wearing glasses in a staredown is weak!!
by newfie-mma-fan on Jan 31, 2009 8:39 AM EST up reply actions
Crowls. THat was a dumb ass statement! Do u know what its like to be a fighter? THese guys think they can beat anyone! They rarely actually fear their opponents (unless they are fighhting Fedor)!
I am pretty sure that every single fighter on this card believes he will win this fight. Silva is a bad mofo! Overall, he may be the toughest guy on the card. TO say that he has no chance is silly!
I am one of Machida’s biggest fans, but Silva is going to put him away tonight!

Gono should headline a fight night card
by Braveheart uk&roi on Jan 31, 2009 2:17 PM EST up reply actions
Although I think he will win, Machida looks a little soft. I bet he could make middleweight if he really tried.
by mike on Jan 31, 2009 12:20 AM EST up reply actions
I like ATT but i can’t stand their sunglasses especially santiago. Pretty stupid but that was the only reason i wanted Misaki to smash him.

Machida looks like a kid trying to be cool??? he’s doin what you’re supposed to do in the stare down, Silva is tryin to look badass.
Karo does not look good mentally. I checked out all the photos on UFC.com and theres one where he’s on the scale and lookin straight out and he looks like he’s not all there. Still I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win, but I thought he was almost a lock before. Now, I’d bet against him in a heartbeat. I’m actually concerned for his career let alone this fight. Guy looks like he needs help.
by Crowls on Jan 31, 2009 3:39 AM EST up reply actions
Karo looks terrible! Dude actually made the sign of the cross before stepping on the scale!!!! Funniest thing I have ever seen at a weigh in! He was praying for himself to make 170 lbs. His face tells it all! Initially, I was going to bet some chump change on stun Gun, now I will have to bump my bet up to like $100!
Karo = Paulo Filho! 2 broken fighters!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 11:54 AM EST up reply actions
Oh, and seeing the Rashad picture reminded me of the best part of the primetime countdown…his badass entrance (with music) to GSP’s training camp. I’m not even a Rashad fan, but that was right out of Shaft or Wattstax or something.
by Victory is Ours on Jan 30, 2009 11:35 PM EST reply actions
yeah, Spike made rASHAD look super cool! That was a bad ass entrance! I love Rashad’s shades. I think I might go out and buy ,e a pair today….might as well kill sometime while I am waiting for the fight!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 9:24 AM EST up reply actions
I’m still amazed Fitch/Gono is not on the main card. I was looking forward to seeing that one… on a TV.
by fleet on Jan 30, 2009 11:36 PM EST reply actions
Hopefully we might still see it, like if another fight ends early…
The entrance alone might be worth it.
by Teep on Jan 31, 2009 2:27 AM EST up reply actions
You shouldn’t be that amazed, it obviously Dana trying to prove a point to Fitch. If you don’t do what I want or sign what I want you to sign, then this is where you will end up.
What a wanker.
by Ade on Jan 31, 2009 5:07 AM EST up reply actions
it has to do with who will sell tickets and ppv’s. the people on the main card will sell a hell of a lot more than fitch or gono. it’s business, not a personal vendetta.
by jj on Jan 31, 2009 9:23 AM EST up reply actions
Sorry JJ, but you are wrong! A fitch fight would easily sell more then Karo vs. Stun GUn (who most casual fans dont even know)!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 9:25 AM EST up reply actions
Has anyone ever looked at a PPV card and said ,‘hey, Fitch is fighting. I have to buy this.’?
by PW on Jan 31, 2009 9:46 AM EST up reply actions
no they haven’t….
thats like saying… “awesome tyson griffin is fighting on this one, let’s buy”
fitch may be badass… but he’s not a sell
by sanshouer on Jan 31, 2009 11:01 AM EST up reply actions
Yes, I do! Grant it not many people say Fitch is fighting I have to buy this ppv…..But I would bet anything that NO one says Karo is fighting Pork fried rice (Phil Baroni reference)….I gotta buy this….Not even Karo’s family, who also probably think he is a fat out of shape, panicking, Douche, who hasnt finished a fight in FOREVER!!!!!!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 11:47 AM EST up reply actions
did you guys actually watch the weigh in video? fitch didn’t even look at dana; they never shook hands; never even acknowledged each other.

machida is mixed race; father japanese mother brazilian.
by JB on Jan 31, 2009 10:09 AM EST up reply actions
What about that fight makes you think that BJ won rounds 2 and 3? He got completely dominated in round 3 and lost a close second round. I would have given it to Machida 29-28 across the board. Don’t get me wrong it was a pretty good fight and was close in the first round. To say that either fighter dominated the entire fight is way off.
by MMAFan1981 on Jan 31, 2009 9:32 AM EST up reply actions
Hahahaha, those pictures are awesome…and GSP is going to pound BJ out.
by Diceman on Jan 30, 2009 11:44 PM EST reply actions
Nah homie. GSP is a very skilled fighter, but BJ is p4p the most skilled fighter in mixed martial arts. GSP can only win by decision. BJ can win by anything. We’ll see what happens.
by Jimmy on Jan 30, 2009 11:54 PM EST up reply actions
“Nah Homie”???? Is this Jimmy writing this post or is it Nate Diaz? Nate Diaz by the way is total retard, he act like a thug only he has a face speckled with more zits than the back of your high school band leader and he talks like the horrid love child of Barbara Walters and Mike Tyson.
GSP is lock and Karo has a big vagina.

I understand that tomrrow, BJ will be smaller than GSP but at the weigh in, nota big enough size difference to make of for BJ’s advantage in skill. BJ, round 2, TKO. NO convinved.

by pride 4 ever on Jan 31, 2009 2:00 AM EST up reply actions
Hal, you really don’t know what you’re talking about man. I’ve been training MMA for a few years now and believe me, BJ really is a prodigy. The guy’s ground skills and boxing are second to none in MMA. I give GSP a ton of credit because he too is a phenom. However, as I said before, BJ is a more skilled fighter than GSP. GSP will not be able to finish Penn. His only chance is a decision. As for Nate, who cares how he talks or what he looks like, the guy can fight. You would probably talk very similarly to him if you were raised in Stockton. The sport is about fighting, not literature and proper etique.
by Jimmy on Jan 31, 2009 2:37 AM EST up reply actions
Jimmy has trained for a few years so if he says BJ is a prodigy, than he has to be. Who cares what people call him the dude is not winning this fight. And being raised in Stockton isn’t what makes Nate talk like a meth mouth.
Jimmy are you also saying that BJ’s one-punch combos are the best in MMA? The guy has a solid jab and a good chin, that’s it. I think Andre Arlovski and about 10 other guys are better boxers than BJ.
by jay on Jan 31, 2009 7:38 AM EST up reply actions
any1 with an IQ over 100 would probly already know that GSP as the superior athlete & a pretty smart cookie, should have gone to school on penn & should have his number by now. clay guida is nigh on unstoppable & should win. anderson silva & or, any of the top 205 " ers would f*#k up the ego maniac brit bisping, unfortuntaly, dana white & co just continue to write the “soap opera” script 4 us all to subscribe to….what if WE could choose the bouts?!?

by allamerican on Jan 31, 2009 8:34 AM EST up reply actions
Jimmy I couldn’t agree with you more, GSP will not finish Penn in stunning KO fashion..Everyone wants to see BJ get destroyed and dominated, its not going to happen..I’m a hardcore MMA fan and an even more hardcore BJ Penn fan..I’ve been watching the Prodigy fight since the good ol UFC days..Hes got too much talent and heart to give up during any of his fights..The only thing stopping him from being the most dominant is his conditioning..As for Nate, he has superior BJJ compared to Guida, coupled with improved stand up, I’m expecting to see a stunning all around performance by Nate Diaz
by pride 4 ever on Jan 31, 2009 9:04 AM EST up reply actions
Great Post Jimmy! I have been saying it for months, GSP can only beat BJ via decision….That gives BJ Penn 25 minutes to end a fight! Big advantage to BJ, IMO!
GSP is saying how he will fight BJ like No one has b4….what that means is that GSP is going to try to continue to move forward and get BJ back Peddling! Bad Idea, George! BJ doesnt BACK DOWN!!!! George is going to try and continue to press forward and he is going to eat some leather, get rocked, and it will be the beginning of the end!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 9:29 AM EST up reply actions
Sorry to dissapoint those of you who have “been training MMA for a few years now” or are “hardcore fans” but BJ will lose this fight. As for diaz he’s a talented fighter no doubt but he can’t seem to separate his street mentality from the fact that he now fights as a profession and in the long run that kind of attitude is just bad for his career and the UFC. In the end the debate is pretty much over, today is the day and i’m picking GSP, and trust me when I tell you it’s more of an educated pic than you seem to think.
by Hal on Jan 31, 2009 9:45 AM EST up reply actions
GSP is a better athlete. BJ is the better fighter. And since this is a fight, I have to go with BJ.
by PW on Jan 31, 2009 9:48 AM EST up reply actions
PW, so your picking because BJ’s brother said “GSP is an athlete not a fighter” Your going to pick (BJ) cause BJ’s brother who is not a fighter himself said that? Remember that “athlete” already beat the “fighter” the “athlete” has beat better comp. at 170, than the “fighter” at 155!!!
by JV on Jan 31, 2009 10:12 AM EST up reply actions
Exactly!!!! bout time someone picked up on that. I’d be a little worried about the future of the UFC if that athlete v. fighter analogy held any water. GSP is an athlete AND a fighter. And anyone who thinks differently needs their head checked. Keep in mind this is the guy who never wrestled before coming to the UFC. He’s an athlete and a fighter…..period.
by Hal on Jan 31, 2009 10:28 AM EST up reply actions
I think BJ has better all around skills and more ways to win the fight. I don’t think he will gas this time no matter how long the fight goes. I think he will make GSP pay dearly if he attempts to lay ‘n pray again. So my reasoning goes beyond just athlete vs. fighter. All that said, it wouldn’t be hugely surprising if GSP won.
by PW on Jan 31, 2009 10:30 AM EST up reply actions
Well all the talk is done! Tonight is the night, GSP is in a zone right now. And theres probably not a fighter at WW that will stop him!
by JV on Jan 31, 2009 10:56 AM EST up reply actions
Mark my words Hal, wrestling is the only thing that will keep GSP in the fight and possibly get him the decision win. BJ will pick him apart on the feet. I don’t think you realize just how good the guy’s boxing is. No way in hell GSP will submit Penn either.
Having said that, the great thing about this sport is we get to find out the right way, one on one inside the cage/ring. Hope you all enjoy the figts and I’ll look out for your posts next time before Diego beats Stevenson.
by Jimmy on Jan 31, 2009 10:56 AM EST up reply actions
Whats wrong with wrestling Jimmy? Some of the greats Couture, Chuck, Hughes, had a wrestling backround! Now GSP is probably the best wrestler in the UFC! Using his wrestling is smart isnt it? Wrestling is a Martial Art in MMA right?
by JV on Jan 31, 2009 11:16 AM EST up reply actions
I am so sick about the BJ gassing BS!!! THat strage in Bj’s career is OVER! I dont think BJ will ever gas again!
ASD for everyone giving the later rounds to GSP…..Im not so sure! People act like BJ fades in the later rounds. Ever watch BJ vs. Caol Uno? BJ got much better in the 4th and 5th round then he did in the earlier rounds!
BJ will win this fight. THere isnt a doubt in my mind. Im throwing like $300 on BJ!
Anyone else actually betting the big fight tonight? At least, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is….I hear a lot of predictions, but not a lot of bets backing them up! Whats the deal Maniacs?
by john on Jan 31, 2009 11:52 AM EST up reply actions
No cash. My site has Penn plus-150. I would love to play that. I also like Diaz -120.
by PW on Jan 31, 2009 12:32 PM EST up reply actions
Seems like NO one is actually betting the fight! I hear a ton of predictions but no bets! I only bring this up because a nice amount of us on this site are frequent mma gamblers, yet I dont hear anyone placing bets for the biggest fight in the history of the sport! I know its a close match up, but so many strong opinions but NO money on the line…Its weird. I dont remember a main event, that so little people are betting on! That right there shows just how much of a close match up this fight really is!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 12:47 PM EST up reply actions
C-mon john, be real about BJ! BJ/Uno was how long ago? BJ was lean and explosive, now BJ is thick and puggy! BJ’s new found cardio remains to be seen! Sherk never really tested it, he just tried to box! And before that BJ was dead on his feet after the Stevenson fight. I never made an account at BetUs, so no betting for me just yet! When I bet the Sherk/BJ fight, it was 4 of my friends, friends. 500ea to my 1K, I was bumed but I gave up the money. Then we did it again with Forrest/Page and I got my 1K back plus and extra 1K. Then one of those tools tried to talk sh*t. He came pretty close for me to put something on his @ss! So after my boy passed away, I told all 4 of those p*ssies to f*ck off!
by JV on Jan 31, 2009 12:56 PM EST up reply actions
John-I usually agree with you, but I think you’re dead wrong on this one. Caol Uno didn’t bring the heat that GSP will bring from beginning to end. I think pretty much anyone’s cardio would be inferior to Rush, but BJ’s is pretty much a guarantee. I’ve got a bill on tonight’s fight, and I’m confident in my pick. BJ’s going to get put on the mat over and over, and eventually a bomb is going to drop from the top, and that will be the beginning of the end…said it before, saying it again, Rush will pound BJ the F#*$ out!
by Diceman on Jan 31, 2009 1:16 PM EST up reply actions
Just showing that their is precedent of bj not gassing in the final rouds. FACT!!!! Cant argue with me on this one.
Now if you wantt o take into account quality of opposition, then you have a point…but Facts are, that I have seen BJ finish strong in a 25 minute fight, and that cant be refuted!
by john on Jan 31, 2009 7:27 PM EST up reply actions
BJ got pounded the F#$% out! He is NOT a legend. He’s a great fighter, but he got flat out dominated this fight. Rush stuck to the game plan, put him on his back, and stomped that ass!

Is it just me or does Nate Diaz look (and Sound) like he was conceived by a strap-on wearing Zamboni driver and carla from cheers.
Can’t wait till GSP knocks humpty dumpty off the wall and beats him down so badly he’ll be three inches shorter than Manvel Gamburiyan for the next two months.
Can’t wait till Karo misses the fight because one of his goats falls ill and he has to go back to Armenia.
I just can’t wait lads. I’m impregnating my own underpants just thinking about tomorrow night.

It’s not just you, Hal.

Is it just me or is Hal the biggest troll to comment on this website..Nate Diaz has a superb ground came coupled with improved stand up..You’re going to be surprised with his performance today..As for GSP, I’m a GSP fan but a bigger BJ Penn supporter..I’ve been watching BJ Penn fight since his debut in the UFC..Hes extremely flexible, has tremendous heart, and is a BJJ World Champion..GSP will not finish BJ Penn in stunning fashion.
by pride 4 ever on Jan 31, 2009 8:56 AM EST up reply actions
It’s just you Pride, great name btw. Fly your colors proud my friend. Regardless of how long you’ve been watching BJ fight he will lose this fight. You’re not wrong about BJ, he’s a great fighter but he won’t beat GSP, simple as that. If he does i’ll be the first one to admit I was wrong, then i’ll eat live rattlesnake on youtube.
by Hal on Jan 31, 2009 9:50 AM EST up reply actions
That’s a pretty significant risk for a fight that could easily go either way. I’d recommend just dropping $25 or $50 on BetUs.
by PW on Jan 31, 2009 11:44 AM EST up reply actions
Hal you can hate on my name, but i’ve been an avid PRIDE supporter for a long time, they were once as dominant as the UFC. I got no hate for GSP, how can you not acknowledge his pure athleticism and professionalism..I know hes improved exponentially, but I have to support my boy BJ Penn..As long as his conditioning is superb, he can win this fight..Regardless, both fighters will display great take down defense, excellent use of the jab, and heart in the cage tonight, simply as that..Its gonna be one hell of a fight, I’m pumped!
