There’s been so much talk about GSP-Penn. I almost forgot about the Guida-Diaz fight. Parysian and Stun Gun should be a good one too!
by c-war on Jan 27, 2009 11:27 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Hopefully Karo actually fights. I question where Karo’s head is at right now. Hopefully he shows up to fight and stun gun whoops his ass!
I will bet anything that Arroyo vs. Cramer gets aired! That fight is ending quickly. Cramer either KO’s arroyo right away, or Matt submits Cramer right away!
I dont think we will get to see Fitch vs. GOno. Fitch is going to win that fight but I doubt he will be able to finish Gono. Gono is a very scrappy, cagey veteran who is very tough to finish. shogun couldnt finish him when he was in his super Prime and destroying dudes!
The only way that this fight will air is if the main event ends within the 1st 2 rounds. of course for that to happen BJ will have to KO GSP before the 3rd round (which I believe will probably happen). WE all know GSP doesnt have the tools to finish BJ and his only hope is to win a decision! So if you guys want to see the Fitch/Gono fight root for BJ Penn 2nd rd KO!!!!!!

Just watch an episode of Queer as Folk. It’s about the same as a Fitch fight, except with wittier dialogue.

I just don’t get it why they’re tryin’ to build up this Stun gun dude because he hasn’t impressed me so far in the octagon. Well I guess it’s just octagon jitters…Well in any case, here are the winners:
-BJ Penn via miracle
-Machida via UD[though i’m betting on Thiago!]
-Jon Jones via Split decision
-NAte Diaz via RNC
-Karo Parisyan via UD/TKO
-Jon Fitch via tapout[strikes]
-Tavares via whatever
-The Professor via KO
-O’Brien via whichever he pleases
-No Regard via “experience”
That’s a wrap folks!

GSP’s got this one in the bag, I was laughing watching Dana Whites blog yesterday when all those guys were takin BJ to win. GSP and Machida in a parlay is a lock.
by BMO on Jan 27, 2009 11:19 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Parlay……..lol……you new to betting? Great way to lose money, I bet you love teasers as well. Too much risk taking GSP and Machida in a parlay. Take Silva for the value alone.
by DF on Jan 27, 2009 12:10 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
how can you pick silva? who has he defeated thats any good compare machida’s opponents to silva’s and there is no contest
good opponents machida has faced:
-franklin
-Penn
-bonnar
-sokoudjou
-ortiz
good opponents silva’s faced:
-???? none!
machida has the perfect style to beat him … he has done best against aggresive fighters
i dont care what the odds are i would not put money on silva for this fight
by ufcaddict on Jan 27, 2009 1:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
good opponents machida has faced:
-franklin
-Penn
-bonnar
-sokoudjou
-ortiz
are you kidding? Okay Franklin a 185er and that was like 5 years ago.. BJ?? A 155er… yeah that’s really great win for machida.. he couldn’t even finish BJ.. pathetic.. Bonnar is an okay win but that was like 6 years ago… he is not the same fighter. Wasn’t it before the TUF show even? ..Sokoudjou? not impressive at all.. that guy got cut from the UFC and still can’t win.. Ortiz.. please he is washed up and everyone knows it.. maybe Ortiz 2 years ago was impressive.. So again who has Machida beat that is soooo much better than Silva?
by Kory on Jan 27, 2009 3:45 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You did fail to list a SINGLE FIGHTER of relevance that Thiago has faced.
At least with Machida, people can try to name names!
by ViolentMike on Jan 27, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
And his KO win over Franklin is COMPLETELY legit. Why wouldn’t it be?? Because when the fight took place you had no idea what MMA was?
by ViolentMike on Jan 27, 2009 4:28 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
wtf?? just because he won against them 6 years ago it doesnt mean they were a good fighter back then?? well if thats true then machida cant of been as good 6 years ago which really makes the win against bonnar and franklin have just the same effect as if he won against bonnar, franklin now
and even if ortiz isn’t the same fighter as 2 years ago he would still beat any of thiago’s opponents with out even breaking a sweat
shafer had a more convincing win against mendes that thiago did! thiago was getting beat at the begining of that fight
thiago is defo overrated and is still yet to prove himself
by ufcaddict on Jan 27, 2009 6:08 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You must be new to betting taking silva, your gonna eat your words come saturday. Machida is a lock and when parlay’d with GSP it makes Gsp even money.
by BMO on Jan 27, 2009 2:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Just saying taking two bets on one bet especially when both fights aren’t locks is brutal especially in the UFC where there are upsets around every corner. In order to make $100, you’d have to bet 300 on Lyoto while only 44 on Thiago who does have a chance to win – that’s a huge difference. Even money on two bets is a pretty bad parlay – you’ll lose more then you’ll win over time.
by DF on Jan 27, 2009 6:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Also, you’re taking a guy who has four decisions in five fights against guys with not the greatest knockout power. While it could happen, I just can’t see Lyoto being able to finish Silva who has finished all four of his fights before the third round. Silva’s agressive style and finishing abilities, plus the guy is 13-0 and was training (before) in the Chute Boxe camp, I just see a +225 betting line way too much value to pass up. Plus I don’t have to add on another close fight to win a bet. And if I did want to parlay GSP, I’m looking at +398 odds. Betting is all about Value – plain and simple.
by DF on Jan 27, 2009 6:28 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, you must know WAY more than the fighters. You should see the Youtube video where Matt Hughes (who has recently fought the new and improved GSP mind you) said that BJ Penn will win this fight if he comes in shape. I’m gonna agree with him.
by haglnuts on Jan 27, 2009 12:41 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
matt Hughes says that because he beat BJ and GSP beat him
by jet99 on Jan 27, 2009 1:16 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
i agree, and i think hughes is just bitter because GSP said that Serra would beat him if he came into the fight in the same shape the last time he fought GSP
by BMO on Jan 27, 2009 2:40 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
A double amputee epiletic with muscular dystrophy could beat Hughes……
by deadgrassinyard on Jan 27, 2009 6:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You’d think that Hughes would pick that guy that beat him twice over the guy that beat him once. I guess he doesn’t see it that way.
by Kdog on Jan 27, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Sad to read that you absolutely have no opinion for yourself on this fight and will just believe whatever comes out of matt hughes mouth. You don’t feel there might be a little bias there?
by open24hrz on Jan 27, 2009 1:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Matt Hughes also said that he thought GSP would win if the fight was to go more than 3 rnds
by McArthur on Jan 27, 2009 1:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
LOL!! I really don’t care for Matt Hughes, but I just cited what he said as a generally point of view that I’ve heard a lot of fighters and fight fans talk about. That if BJ PENN had a gas tank in their first fight, he more than likely would have won. I think that if he trained hard for this fight, he has more than a great chance at beating GSP. BJ BJ BJ!!!!
by haglnuts on Jan 27, 2009 1:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
My opinion is that BJ has a GREAT chance at beating GSP this time around. If it were only Matt Hughes saying that BJ Penn will more than likely win if he has trained hard and has good cardio. This is a commonly shared point of view. Don’t be a hater. BJ BJ BJ!!!

Totally agree. Fitch put on a great showing against GSP… I have no idea why he is relegated to undercard status and we pay to see Bonner.
As far as the Main Event… GSP by clear cut, dominating, convincing, 5 round UD.

karo/stun gun-idk too much about stun gun except that he finished fights. his last win was over matt brown and was his only decision win since 2006…that impressive. I like karo, but he needs to get his head on staight. i see karo taking this one. the step up in competition for stun gun is going to be too much IMO.
diaz/guida-i LOOOOOVE this fight. im a huge fan of both of these guys (in the octogon that is). id love to see guida get to the top, but nate is too good and i think he wins this one. probably by sub. i’ve seen guida on the ground and he leaves himself open too much. diaz will take advantage of that no doubt.
bonnar/jones-welcome back bonnar! hopefully he wins. honestly, i dont care too much about this fight.
machida/T. silva-i cant wait for this one! i think machida is too smart for silva, but if silva has the right gameplan he has a big chance of winning. he throws bombs and machida is yet to fight someone like that.
gsp/penn-we’ve said it all about this fight. we all know how they match up…so im just going to say that i want BJ to win, but am a fan of both. so really, im the winner here!
great card! ufc put together a great one this time

Well VM, 5 of his 9 fights have gone to decision in the UFC…so more than half the time he leaves it to the judges…so I believe you’re the bitch.

Let’s talk about the Machida/Silva fight shall we, since this fight seemed to fall off the face of the earth. I think the fight will obviously be a tougher challenge for Silva, but I’m rooting for him to win. I’m not sure what will work against Machida, I think everyone’s tried everything (being patient, putting pressure, etc.). I still think Silva’s best chances is to bring the fight to Machida, even if it means eating some of his strikes because Machida doesn’t have KO “power”. If Silva can get in the face of Machida then I think he has a good chance.

PREDICTIONS: GSP by split decision
Machida 2nd round choke
Bonnar by decision
Guida by 3rd rd. TKO
Karo by decision
by horny for mma on Jan 27, 2009 11:43 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I see every fight on the maincard going to Decision. I hope we get to see Gono vs Fitch.
by BMO on Jan 27, 2009 11:53 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m rooting for Silva, but I would also love to see Machida absolutely unleash and dominate a somewhat cocky Silva. Win-Win situation for me watching this fight and I don’t expect we’ll be seeing a decision.
I also think Fitch should be on the main card as well, throw Karo on the undercards til he get’s his shit together. Anyone betting on another “last minute injury?”
by AndyKatz on Jan 27, 2009 11:51 AM EST reply actions 0 recs

I got BJ by Submission due to strikes ROUND ONE. YUP, I just said it!!!!!!
And once again we find out that GSP does not have the true heart of a champion. When BJ says that he wants to fight to the death, I believe him. When GSP says it, he is just repeating what BJ said so he doesn’t look like a coward. Truth be told, GSP tapped due to strikes from MATT FREAKING SERRA!!!! BJ Penn has NEVER tapped from strikes. In the last fight with Hughes, BJ was in a WAAAY worse situation than Serra had GSP and BJ DID NOT TAP.
If you are going to tap due to strikes, you do NOT have what it takes to be a champion, and maybe not even a fighter!!!!

I posted it earlier,GSP in the third round, referree stoppage,GSP takes him down and GNP him out.I personally feel that Penn will be wore down by that point of the fight ,tired and frustated from not being able to get GSP off of him.I see GSP doing what he did in the second and third round of the first fight just shooting in and taking BJ down. For BJ to win it will be in the first round, when they are both dry ,so it is easier for him to catch a submission, but I do not see GSP getting caught so that is why I am going with GSP

If GSP wins he fights Thiago and perhaps Anderson Silva. Did wanderlie drop to 185? If so who is he fighting next?

((adamg)) what about people on the fence, I know your not a fan of that, but I really don’t know who wins this one. Both match up so well together, matt serra was asked in a interview and he said he was on the fence in this fight. I obviously want gsp to win, but am not sure what to expect, I just hope to hell he demolishes penn just so I can laugh at kevin, john, prettyboy and revjames13 after, and I just flat out don’t like penn and like gsp. If I HAD to give a prediction I’ll say gsp by decision, there it is.

I really don’t like penn and would love to hear all the bloggers who “guarantee” penn finishing gsp show up here the next day, to eat a little humble pie or crow as rev calls it.
To be honest I think penn and thiago are a real threat to gsp’s crown and would be very surprised if he destroys them, the problems thiago gave koscheck and seeing gsp’s last fight with penn don’t fill me with confidence in gsp.
I know gsp has improved and penn is rededicated and training better but still feel it will most likely be a close fight, like I said I’ll be surprised if one dominates the other. I just have my fingers crossed and hope gsp wins, finishing penn the icing on the cake, but a win is good enough.
by nathan on Jan 27, 2009 3:48 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Looks like you’re having some doubts about GSP pullin’ this one out, Nathan.
“He doesn’t know who I am. Obviously, he doesn’t know what’s going to happen to him.”
Let the doubt sink in, Nathan. When GSP wakes up, he’ll know what happened. He just lost his belt to the best P4P in the world.
by revjames13 on Jan 27, 2009 3:52 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Adam G, as the fight draws near. and the cold sweats start for you. as you realize your bad judgement for picking the pudgy prodigy over the noble champion. and as the gsp train picks up speed, before you are crushed I will extend the hand of friendship and hoist you up on the bandwagon. you may come now or you may come later.
until then: put me down for gsp via gnp stoppage rnd.3
by day1er on Jan 27, 2009 3:54 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Regarding the age-old P4P debate, it’s all about current momentum. Fedor is obviously the best of all time, but currently the P4P is: 1. AS 2. Fedor 3. GSP 4. Penn. You could make a case that GSP is #2, but his loss to Serra is just a little too recent to edge past Fedor. People complain about Fedor not fighting anyone of note recently, but AA definitely counts. If Fedor can roll thru Barnett (not so easy) he can make a case for #1.
When BJ beats GSP in decisive fashion he makes the jump from #4 to #1, IMO, because he just fought and beat one of the other P4P’s. The fact that he is able to jump weight classes plays into the P4P argument. Silva can do the same, which is why he is a great #1.
BJ will have the best recent momentum after the GSP fight, so he deserves to wear the crown for awhile. But he’ll pass it back and forth between AS and Fedor depending on who looks the best while fighting the best competition.

i predict karo loses by sniper fire from a 20th floor window from across the street from someone who really hates that douchebag…
nate by submission in round 3..although he’ll be battered and bloodied…i predict nate diaz becomes the lightweight nogs…gets his butt kicked into a near coma every fight until he pulls a freak sub out of nowhere…
gsp wins by showing up…bj says gsp is a quiter because he tapped to serra..the only reason bj didnt tap to hughes is because he was in a crucifix and couldnt move anything but his toes..but if you watch closely his toes were tapping, the ref just couldnt see them…
there is nothing silva has to offer that machida isnt better at…on the feet machida jabs his face to a bloody mess and silva misses every punch…tito couldnt hold machida down in mount to ground n pound him so how the hell does silva expect to do that…..
bonner loses by standing next to karo when the sniper across the street begins firing
its an insult not to have fitch on the main card…fitch by ko

God it would be funny to see gsp head kick penn, knock him down and then put a rear naked choke on him, and just before penn passes out he tap’s weakly….“like a little byatch” -bj penn. It would make my year. :P

gsp wins by ground n pound…how else? this is a 5 round fight…as soon as the bell rings an hour glass is turned over…its a race for time…i realize bj is a well rounded fighter but since their last fight i think gsp has made the most improvements…i think bj is still the same fighter as he was in their first fight…
i think gsp takes bj down at will…gsp is too quick…yea bj hurt gsp bad in the 1st round but he did little else…if bj doesnt finish u early then he isnt going to…last fight with matt hughes perfect example….
bj at 155 is unbeatable…i dont think there is a man on this planet that can beat bj at 155…but at 170 its a different game…he had george hurt in their first fight but couldnt finish him and was taken down at will..hughes humiliated him in their last fight…bj isnt the same at 170
george takes him down at will and gnp’s a victory in the 3rd or 4th round…i dont see this going the distance…no way does bj go 5 complete rounds with gsp..no way in hell..
put me on the rush list

If GSP and BJ Penn were in a dogfight, GSP would be a police-trained K-P German Shepherd and BJ Penn would a scrappy, slightly undersized Pit bull.
The Shepherd is in trouble. Pit bull by clampdown on vital organs.
P.S. The author does not condone animal violence in any way and this analogy was solely for the purpose of illustrating how BJ Penn is going to KICK ASS!!!!!
