I’d love to see Robbie Lawler back in the UFC and Kid in the WEC. Good first blog.

Good blog. Glad its back in the States. I really enjoyed him talking to the fighters.
by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 26, 2009 6:31 PM EST reply actions
MOst of the fighters are all taking bJ….as am I! BJ is going to Ko GSP! But lets not re hatch that age old discussion.
Best part about the blog was the end where Dana invited Kid to the WEC. I would give anything to see Kid fight both Urijah and Miguel! That should be his 1st 2 fights if he joins the WEC….just like Hendo’s 1st 2 fights in the UFC
by john on Jan 26, 2009 6:39 PM EST up reply actions
that would really improve the wec if they could get kid, plus pulver is about done so they need to revamp the roosters there in all the wieght classes.
by roy on Jan 26, 2009 6:46 PM EST up reply actions
Def want to see Kid fight both those guys. It seemed like hes a lock to be signed.
by fokman on Jan 26, 2009 6:50 PM EST up reply actions
yeah but DREAM offered him a bye in the 1st round of the DREAM FW grand prix…..Fingers crossed that he ends up in the WEC!!!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions
I think Kid is a lock if he fights Faber, but Torres/Kid is what I want to see.
John, you mentioned Gegard Mousasi fighting at DREAM 7. Any idea who his opponent will be?
by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 26, 2009 6:58 PM EST up reply actions
nah, if I hear any rumors you will be the 1st person I think of!
Mayhem miller is also said to be on the card, and that would have made for a great fight but Mousasi wants to fight at 205 lbs now, so I dont think that fight would work out!
What I know for certain is that MOusasi has been calling out Akiyama for a while now. so far Akiyama has declined. Even though Akiyama fights at 185 lbs, if he is willing to take the fight….IT WILL BE BOOKED cause Akiyama is a star over there and it would make for a high profile match up!
I wish I could see a recent pic of MOusasi. I want to see what he looks like now that he has bulked up. Synyster, MOusasi is going to keep growing so brace yourself for all the idiotic comments made by the haters about how he is Juicing! Fighters cant gain weight now a days without haters talking trash!
Fighters that are rumored to be on the card so far are:
Mach Sakurai
Aoki
Sergei
Jacre
MOusasi
Mayhem
by john on Jan 26, 2009 7:05 PM EST up reply actions
I also agree that Kid will whoop Urijah’s ass, and that Kid vs. Miguel is the more appealing fight of the 2!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 7:06 PM EST up reply actions
There is a rumor floating around that aldo might drop down to 135 lbs. He would be a MOnster and even faster at 135 lbs which is a scary thought.
miguel TOrres vs. Aldo would be as exciting of a fight as it gets!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 7:13 PM EST up reply actions
Man, there are a lot of fighters who suck at making picks. Also john, that fight would be sick. Aldo is the truth at 145, can only imagine at 135. Immediate contender IMO. That said GSP via stompageous beatdown(yes i made that up).
by NameNotRequired on Jan 26, 2009 7:17 PM EST up reply actions
That would be awesome. I think he could do well against faber and torres.
by ehoglund on Jan 26, 2009 7:18 PM EST up reply actions
Schilt and Overeem are both supposed to be fighting on the card also right?
by brendan on Jan 26, 2009 8:41 PM EST up reply actions
Good stuff john. I did a bit of research and I read the same stuff about Akiyama. I also read that Gegard plans to leave the Middleweight division altogether now. As in not go back. So 185 is DONE for him. As of now. The 216 Dynamite weight is proof. I was also surprised to hear that he was considered as Vitor’s opponent for Affliction 2. I had no idea about that, and if Mania posted it, then I must have skipped that day. But we know for sure that hes gotta date with Babalu, so I’m looking forward to that. I really like Babalu, but since I’ve been advertising Gegard for a while now I’m going to have to go with him.

john i just watched a video of that yammamoto guy hes quick but i think urijah would beat him so would miguel, he’ll be champ one day though…
hes also a punk he likes to keep going even after the ref jumps in
by randy murders on Jan 27, 2009 1:27 AM EST up reply actions
Its been 2 days since Affliction and I cant believe out of all the aspiring and established mma reporters in America…that not a single one has been able to Hunt down Dana White and ask him how he feels about Fedor (who dana calls a farce), KO’ing anoither one of his former UFC champions, thhis time with a single punch. Dana didnt give any respect to his former champs who fought Fedor, but Dana is on record thinking the world of Arlovski as a fighter.
Somebody ask Dana about this!
I will bet anyone any amount of money that classless Dana calls it a lucky punch!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 6:53 PM EST up reply actions
its not a lucky punch but next time around arlovski destroys fedor, just like next time around cerrone will finish varner fast and not make many mistakes, sure fedor won but he looked like shit, and cant say its the first time john fedors overrated, his fight with fujita he wasn’t that good in,lindland he wasn’t that stellar in (look what belfort did to lindland), he looked good against sylvia but hell my grandma would look good against sylvia
by randy murders on Jan 26, 2009 8:38 PM EST up reply actions
JOHN. why do you care so much about what dana has to say about fedor? if dana said “no comment” to questions about fedor, would that make you happy? i doubt it. i think the fedor fanatics would die a little inside if dana had nothing to say about fedor at all. they seem a little obsessed with the subject. and as far as pros picking bj to win, hughes, serra and sherk all picked gsp to win over at the ufc’s hp. and randy has already picked gsp to win as well, but lets not rehash that old subject, ok? :)
by b.w. on Jan 26, 2009 9:09 PM EST up reply actions
fedor looked like shit knocking him out in the first round?dam i would hate to see him look good in a fight with aa than.fedor can’t win every second of every fight so what if he was losing for a couple minutes so what if he lost a round or two.he is fighting the best guys out there and some of them are going to give him a fight but he does whats important WIN.
by roy on Jan 27, 2009 12:48 AM EST up reply actions

bw: woke up on the wrong side of the bed today?
by john on Jan 27, 2009 10:18 AM EST up reply actions
nope. feeling great. you still didn’t answer my question though. you and ROY both brought up the subject. “i wanna hear dana’s response”. why? IF he does comment, it wont be what you want to hear. i think it would be funny if he decided not to give fedor or Affliction any free pub again, but i dont think he can do it personally.
by b.w. on Jan 27, 2009 12:40 PM EST up reply actions
After seeing Kid, I could care less about who was picking BJ or GSP. Kid in the WEC would create some great fights.
by Jeff on Jan 26, 2009 10:31 PM EST up reply actions
Kid Yamamoto is a beast. Him against Uriah would be sick. I cant believe how many of those guys think Bj is gonna win.
by Kdog on Jan 27, 2009 12:51 AM EST up reply actions
a couple fought bj,and robbie lawler is hughes’s best friend so he wont pick a guy that destroyed his buddy twice
by randy murders on Jan 27, 2009 1:28 AM EST up reply actions
Actually, if you think about-Matt Hughes probably would pick the guy that beat you twice (Gsp) but Lawler picked Bj.
by Kdog on Jan 27, 2009 5:59 AM EST up reply actions
BEST BLOG YET!!!! absolutely love the fact that robbie lawler, caol uno, and kid were brought onto the vid dana is the man and it was sweet when he asked kid to come to wec……faber vs kid for the #1 contender a dream fight of mine for the past few years
by cabe on Jan 26, 2009 6:36 PM EST reply actions
I also want to see Kid vs. Miguel! Thats why signing Kid would be great for the WEC because he can fight at a high level in both weight classes. He would become the dan henderson of the WEC!
His 1st fight should be Urijah, 2nd fight vs. Miguel!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 6:50 PM EST up reply actions
Really? Not sayin twas crap or anything but all it was was BJ or GSP
And yes I know its the blog for one of the best fights in MMA history. Coulda talked more about the WEC fights, what Lawlor’s doin, what does Brown think of Garcia etc.
by IrishKev on Jan 26, 2009 6:44 PM EST up reply actions
but its a ufc 94 blog, not a wec blog so it makes sense to be about ufc 94 not other stuff. very good imo
by megatherium on Jan 26, 2009 6:55 PM EST up reply actions
i hope robbie lawlor comes back to the ufc, and that blog was better than any of the ufc 93 ones. i am so amped for this fight cant wait till saturday and i would say bj takes it in the third round by tko

the girl at the beginning, Gazi is a beast at bjj and taught at my gym in Tucson for a lil while. She used to spar with all us in muay thai too.

If women mma gets bigger everyone would know her, i think you can watch her bjj on youtube.

thanks man! I live in Philadelphia PA, and I love my Philadelphia Daily News (newspaper)… Today I open the paper and starting on the 2nd page there was a 2 page article on Tara LaRosa. She is from Philly and she trains at trhe fight factory in fishtown where Eddie Alvarez trains. I was very happy to see that mma was getting this kind of coverage in a Philly newspaper. Only part I didnt like was the paper calling her the #1 fighter in the world. She is up there in the ranks, but I dont see her beating Cyborg or Gina!
by john on Jan 26, 2009 7:09 PM EST up reply actions
She just won her fight right? Thats tight and it wasnt even a UFC fighter or anything. I have seen her on youtube as well, but i think gina and cyborg are then 2 best women. I know cyborg is fighting soon too, should be total destruction.
by ehoglund on Jan 26, 2009 7:16 PM EST up reply actions
In terms of p4p for women, i got laRosa or The VT queen Tsuji at 105lbs. Sick skills. I’m not really impressed by gina’s skills. Cyborg – complete fighter but she’s been double kneebared before so hard to put her in p4p rankings.
by NameNotRequired on Jan 26, 2009 7:26 PM EST up reply actions
I prolly know just enough to be dangerous when it comes to women fighters. I can only name about 10. What weight does larosa fight at?
by ehoglund on Jan 26, 2009 7:46 PM EST up reply actions
she fights at 135 but said she’d move up to fight Gina. She also said she can try to move down to 123 if the Megumi fight can be made.

by randy murders on Jan 26, 2009 7:26 PM EST up reply actions

by randy murders on Jan 26, 2009 7:20 PM EST up reply actions
Yea Lawler never fought him but Hughes has and those boys are tight. The dude also wrote “BJ” after his question, although I wouldn’t put it past BJ to try and fight himself. I assume he meant Jens though.
It sounds like I’m saying Carl half the time when I say Caol too.

WTF are the trying to influence the betting lines! That blog had to be set up. how can almost every fighter be thinking bj when gsp is in his own weight class, already beat him, and is the choice of everyone from commentators/analysts to my grandmother!

Penn weighed in at circa. 187 pounds whilst Machida fought at his natural weight of circa 215.
haha and he really should’ve won that fight..
by randy murders on Jan 26, 2009 7:24 PM EST reply actions
After watching all of this, one could say….“WOW” almost all of these guys pick BJ. But I say…..“WOW” DANA talks like that and has KIDS?? Being trained by a fighting skate boarder at that…..
by BeerMan on Jan 26, 2009 7:35 PM EST reply actions
BJ Penn is dangerous but he won’t be able to control the fight.
He couldnt even against a busted 1-eye young GSP and it wont be different.
He will gas and a WAY better version of GSP will take him out.
Simply.
by Jee on Jan 26, 2009 7:41 PM EST reply actions
Absolutely!!! I always find it amusing when everyone talks about how bad BJ beat GSP so badly in the first round the first time they fought. He poked him in the eye, gave him a bloody nose and landed a few good shots. It’s not as if he dropped him, and GSP kept active the whole time scoring with many leg kicks. GSP is a different guy today, the only thing that’s different about BJ is his conditioning (allegedly) and even on his best day he will never beat GSP in that department. This will be a good fight but I think many will be shocked by just how much better that BJ GSP will look. If BJ wins a round, even the first, i’ll post a video of me eating a live gopher.
by Foamdome on Jan 26, 2009 9:08 PM EST up reply actions
BJ did destroy GSP in their first fight. BUT this is not the GSP of today. GSP will completely dominate from beginning to end this time. He’s much more skilled than he was then, he’s focused, and he’s HUGE compared to Penn.

1st round will be the greatest round in mma history! probably dead even. 2nd round the real champ with the right mental focus will begin to emerge and start to dominate..3rd round the better champ will win by tko or referee stoppage. i dont see either guy getting submitted.

Revjames13 only way bj “finishes” gsp early is if gsp hasn’t had sex in 6 weeks according to his boxers advice, and its outside the octagon in gsp’s hotel room. Maybe penn and gsp dated who knows, penn has a huge grudge against him, gsp most likely dumped him for some french canadian guy, and now penn wants to kill him :P
