Opportunity lost: Andrei Arlovski threw it all in the toilet against Fedor Emelianenko

Props: Cage Writer
Quoteworthy:
"I did pretty good in the first few minutes. But then I tried to do something flashy and paid for it. I have to sit down with myself and figure out why I didn't listen to my trainers.... Every single jab or right hand, I thought that I hurt him. It was very effective for me. I don't know why I changed my tactic. One little mistake and I paid for this. All my hard work and training, I just threw it in the toilet. Tonight it was a great opportunity for me to make history. I'm really worried that somebody will beat Fedor. I just want to wish him that he's wins against all his next opponents until our next match.... He's a great fighter (but) sooner or later someone will beat him. I'm very upset with myself that I wasn't that person. You know he's a human."
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski reflects on his knockout loss at the hands of Fedor Emelianenko last night during the main event of Affliction: "Day of Reckoning." The Belarusian appeared to be on his way toward winning the opening frame of the five round fight handily, but he was then somehow magically iced while in midair as he attempted to land a flying knee. It was a mistake, according to Arlovski, and Emelianenko made him pay for it. But doesn't that happen to almost everyone who Emelianenko fights?

And you should probably get that chin upgraded from glass to anything else, might not matter though.

hes probably going to go to boxing with freddy but i dont think his chin will hold up. but damn we havent actually seen andrei out cold before. still it was stupid of him to do what he did. hopefully he wont go back to the tentative andrei we saw against werdum and big tim in the third fight. that andrei sucked

ALL Hail King Fedor. Last night was exactly what makes him such a legend. He was losing that fight and he pushed forward and did what winners do….He found a way to win! He made arlovski do a nose dive like he was a plane who had just lost an engine! It looked like he smacked AA across the face with a brick! I couldnt believe it! Amazing finish!
Props to Andre…He looked good. UP to that point he was winning the fight, but he wouldnt have lasted another 20 minutes…Thats for sure!
I would love for someone to stick a microphone in Dana White’s mouth after last nights fight and hear what he has to say, because Dana has high regards for Andre!
I watched the event at a bar, and I was shocked to see how many people knew about Fedor! The whole bar was screaming his name in anticipation the entire night. I thought the casual fans would have leaned towards AA but last night it was the FEDOR show!

All Hail King Fedor, wow dude the man crush is still hot and heavy huh? LMFAO!!!!! Props to Fedor but any good striker should have and would have landed that punch. He left his chin wide open with that slow awkward flying knee attempt and Fedor capitalized off of a mistake. It was a brutal KO and one of the worst I have seen in a while and I do give him props but gosh dude get off of his nuts!

MIke Jordan of mma baby!
I love it how all the Fedor haters are like: “Andre was dominating…blah blah blah”! Andre was winning 3 minutes of a 25 minute fight! He was up on points, did’t really do any significant damage. Fedor was adjusting to Andre’s timing! Andre is a very good fighter, especially standing (one of the best in mma)…. I didnt expect Andre to go down like Sylvia did. Dre put up a fight, and I knew he would. I thought the difference would be when Fedor landed a solid blow, he would have taken Dre down and pounded him out. instead, the solid blow I was looking for, Crushed Andre’s scull and the Fight was over!
Very impressive win by Fedor!
F all the UFC nuthuggers who cant give Affliction props for last night! It was a very entertaining card, and it would take a real hater who sucks at life to not acknowledge that FACT! Thank you affliction for providing us with a great night of fights!
I cant wait to see Afflictions 3rd show!
Mousasi vs. Babalu will be a classic match up! Barnett vs. Fedor will be the most competitive Fedor fight that we will ever get to see! Much Love to Affliction. Even if they only do 3 or 4 shows a year.,….You got to appreciate what this company is doing!
Props to Vitor for destroying Lindland before the Human Blanket could bore us all to death!
I lost $200 on Kiril. Props to buentello. But I really appreciate and am impressed with the 20 year old Kiril’s composure and his chin is awesome! Not sure how long it will take him, but eventually kiril is going to be an mma stud!

There is no way that an MMA fan, or even dare I say, a UFC ONLY fan, could have watched the event live on PPV and be dissapointed in the prduct they recieved. Other than the scratchy voiced throat cancer announcer guy back stage, everything was a big upgrade over thier first event (yes, even with Tito). The first event had a gloomy feel and look to it and was packed with decisions. This card did not have that same dark and gloomy look, and we had a bunch of fantastic finishes. I know a lot of people were loving seeing Lindland out cold with his leg twitching and all. Its a good thing Hendo was there to help wake him up. Everyone watching at my house left 110% satisfiec, and half of them were rooting for Andrei.
On Kiril, all he really did was show that he has a great chin and a lot of heart. But, like I thought, Buentello’s experienc would be too big of a factor to bet on Kiril.
Hopefully Affliction did better on PPV than the first show cuz they didn’t make much $ at the gate. I wonder where the 3rd show will be? CA again? Hope not. I’d love them to make their way to the east coast because I am DEFINITELY going to see Fedor fight in a MMA fight live in person before he retires undefeated!

Vm: I actually hear that Affliction will be sanctioned in New York by March or April of 2009. if this is true, I could see Affliction 3 taking place at the garden. Especially since its not like they are planning on doing a 3rd show in a month. The 3rd sahow is at least 6 months away, and they do most of their advertising in new york!
Affliction 3, Barnett vs. Fedor at the Garden would be EPIC!!! If this ends up happening, I will be sitting right next to you at the event VM!
Great NIght! Much improvement since their 1st show. If they can last imagine how much their show will improve in 2 years time? Affliction is heading in the right direction if you ask me!

VM I feel the same exact way about what a great event that was and I hope they do many shows in the future but what totally had me about to punch something or some one were…….
1) the event staff acting like bodyguards not letting the fighter walk more than 3’ in one direction in the ring even when they would try to congradulate eachother after the fight . The guy who makes $10/hr who feels the fighters down before they enter the ring was checking the bottom of the fighters feet what a joke and inconveience for the fighter I agree and hope cali never hosts another mma event EVER
2)tito did awsome calling the fights but pleeease get some one else to do the post fight interviews
3) bring back the ramp for entrances like the first show I enjoy the entrances and you could barly see the fighters all you could see is event staff and trainers
its sweet watching fedor and other fighters coming down an elevated ramp so you can get a birds eye view of there mental state
4) get rid of those clowns they would go to backstage and after the event come on that was a joke
5) I love big john mcarthy but please dont be afraid to change what I mean is………….dont ask the fighters if they have any questions in the stare down give me a f**king break who the hell is ganna have a question the fighters mind is already occupied and it takes away from the stare down. I like how herb dean does it goes over the rules and say touch gloves to make it offical………….also big john dont go over the rules AGAIN in the ring crramping thier camertime right after they enter the ring I like to see the emotion or unemotion on a fighters face. you went over the rules in the dressing room you need to chill out in the ring A GOOD RFEREE IS A REF YOU BARLEY TAKE NOTICE TO because you harldy knew he was there hands down mazzagati is the best at that.
those are just little things that annoyed the hell out of me man I was so happy fedor won
I would like to see andrei test his striking in boxing see how he does

It was what it was. AA is not in Fedor’s class. No one is on this planet except for only one man who comes even close to him and now he’s too old to keep up. It didn’t matter that AA wasn’t scared, he still got KTFO. The event was done pretty good, not a fan of the entrances mainly the lighting. Also they need to get rid of the f’n ring. Seriously. No need for that many people with mics either. Three with suffice, Two on the telecast, one backstage. Other than that it was a great show with a different feel than the usual UFC.

i was there and it was great, the crow really showed alot of love for babalu and belfort when they came out and you think it could have not got louder but it did when aa came out the crowd erupted and unbeleavably got even louder for fedor.afflictions got some good stars that people are really into and i thought even if aa wins they got him and he ha a ton of fans there.and natas if you think aa will beat fedor in a rematch just remember fedor already beat aa at his own game and we didn’t even see his ground attack pulled out on him, fedor will only fight better next time.

It was a good night. I won my first ever bet. Thanks Lil Nog and Babalu! I’ll have fun winning more money against those guys when Gegard Mousasi faces them! I think the lines would be pretty even for them if Mousasi faces either guy, with Mousasi maybe being a slight underdog.

Go watch the last Liddel/Jackson fight for a weak looking knockout punch. This punch was right on the money.
Also, I think if this was staged AA wouldn’t have fallen on his face afterwards or been on the verge of crying when he woke up. Look at his hairy chin tremble afterwards. He knew he was winning the round and Fedor didn’t yet have an answer to his striking.

I actually think Barnett is better then Arlovski (slightly). The Barnett of last night would have beaten any UFC Heavyweight! its a shame that dana’s personal feelings makes the chance of seeing Barnett in the Octagon slim to none! Why should Dana’s personal Beef keep one of the best fighters in the world out of the UFC?
by john on Jan 25, 2009 11:28 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I sincerely think that if the Barnett that showed up last night were to fight Brock Lesnar, that Brock would beat him down. Having Gilbert Yvel mounted for around 9 minutes of a fight and not finishing it until like 10 seconds left in the 3rd round is just unacceptable. If he had Brock mounted, I am certain that Brock would have muscled himself out from under the tired and winded Barnett, put him on his back and beat his face in unti the ref pulled them apart. Standing, Barnett is more technical than Brock since he’s only been training a couple of years, but there is no denying that Lesar is that much more powerfull and explosive than Josh, and I believe that would prove to be the differnece in the fight. I mean, Barnett hasn’t fought many guys larger than him and he really relies on his size and strength – would would both be DISADVANTAGES against Brock. Barnett’s only hope would be to catch Brock in a sumbission in a scramble, most likely leg lock.
by ViolentMike on Jan 25, 2009 11:41 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Exellent points VM,I couldn’t agree more. Barnett isn’t going to take Brock down like he did to Yvel.
by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 1:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Brock lost to an overrated Mir, beat Herring and beat Randy because his size and strength (if Randy had that size and power, Brock would not have goy out of the first round) and from this you conclude he is good enough to beat an experienced technical and one best submission heavyweights in the world. Have you seen how much punishment Barnett can take and still sink in his subs. It is truly amazing how you consider Lesner with only three fights to his name some sort of MMA god good enough to beat in my opinion the number two heavyweight in Josh Barnett. Mir is not in Barnetts league and Barnett is better at everything that Randy can do, plus he has the submissions and is bigger and stronger. The fights he had against Yvel didn’t look to impressive, but that does not mean he would fight the same fight with Lesner.
by Ade on Jan 25, 2009 5:35 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Disagree. Brock had trouble with Randy until he landed that grazing shot.
Barnett would own Brock.

Andrei is right, this was like the mistake he made against Tim Sylvia.. he rocks him becomes overagressive and exposes his head, when he should have used his head to think and sit back and pick him apart like he did with his boxing! If he’s going to have a career in boxing he has to pick his shots and not go wild.. anyone gets knocked out if you put your chin straight up in the air

AA seems to be worried that someone will beat Fedor before he gets a rematch. Why does he think that? He just got KOed. Maybe it’s because he knows he lost because of his stupidity, not because Fedor could take him down or out strike him on his feet like so many said he would. I know that fancy crap AA tried isn’t an excuse and Fedor won fair and square, but you have to admit if AA stuck to his pin point sticking he could very well pick Fedor apart and win in a rematch. When have you seen Fedor back up so much in a fight?

Get off the UFC crap. The best HW’s are not in the UFC. The top 3 best HW’s are in Affliction in Fedor, Barnett, Arlovski. I’m picking Barnett to give Fedor his next loss.

Barnett is not that good ! He had a hard time taking out Ivel more less Fedor.
by c-one on Jan 25, 2009 10:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
AA was noticeably nervous and excited to fight Fedor as you can see him almost shaking and was really trying hard to be accurate with his punches. When he thought he had Fedor rocked with that push kick (Fedor just blinked) and that’s why he pulled the flying knee and you can’t do that against one of the best at capitalizing off people’s mistakes. It was too soon. Fedor is good at regrouping because he can control his nerves and is calm under fire.
Fedor doesn’t really have a game plan as he said in his interviews. He just waits for his opponent to make a mistake then he jumps in for the kill. I’m a big fan of both but in this fight I had to go with Fedor. Would’ve also been good if AA won but Fedor is still the king until he makes a mistake.
by remedy on Jan 25, 2009 10:46 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Even if Fedor eventually makes a mistake and gets caught, I feel that he has accomplished so much more then the #2 fighter that even with 1 loss, Fedor would probably keep his top spot in the rankings. I think it would take 2 back top back losses, or 2 losses in 3 fights to cause Fedor to drop in the rankings. He has accomplished so much more then any other heavyweight, that I think 1 loss isnt enough to cause him to drop in the rankings.
What are your thoughts on this hypothetical situation?
by john on Jan 25, 2009 11:14 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think Fedor only drops to no.2 if Andrei beats him in a rematch and then Andrei wins again in a rubber match.
by RobH86 on Jan 25, 2009 11:27 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ranking are all hypothetical so this truely is a hypotheictical situation. I know one thing, he would not be #1 in the WAMMA rankings because the WAMMA title holder would HAVE to be thier #1. HDnet’s Inside MMA has a ‘decent’ top ten list and that is the only “list” that I look at on a regular basis, only because it conveniently scrolls across the bottom of the screen while watching the show.
I think that a loss to ANYONE besides Barnett, and Fedor stays at number 1 in the rankings. However, if Barnett was to win in thier next bout, I think he is the only fighter that can make the argument to be #1 even with a win over Fedor. Barnett’s only losses are a decision loss to Nog, a KO loss to Rizzo which he avenged by KO, and 3 losses to Cro Cop – because he was his stubborn self and wanted to beat his opponent at their game, plus for some reason his likes to stay standing even when he shouldnt.
by ViolentMike on Jan 25, 2009 11:51 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think Fedor should lose his spot if he loses to Barnett. If he loses to Barnett then he would probably get another fighter who wouldn’t be ranked among the top 10 heavyweights. I don’t know who he could fight after Barnett in Affliction/M-1. So if he loses again then he would probably drop one or two spots.
But then again he might drop to #2 if he loses to Barnett simply because he’s at the top of the pile right now and if Barnett beats him especially in convincing fashion, then people would put Barnett at the top because nobody has dominated Fedor.

I can’t argue with that john. My arguements aren’t that Fedor isn’t great, just that he is beatable and even though Fedor won I believe that even more so because AA was winning untill he got stupid (you just don’t throw flying knees against Fedor). I give Fedor full credit for beating a guy as good as AA and he is the #1 HW, yet I would still pick AA in a rematch.
by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Anyone who watched that fight can not disagree with anything in Andrei’s quote. He was tooling Fedor seriously when he went for that flying knee. Andrei needs to sit down with Buentello and talk about sticking to your game plan.

one of fedor’s greatest stregnths is he can take a beating and he always remains clear headed. He looks like he is in more trouble than he is, and once you get overconfident the fight is over. Age is the only thing that will beat Fedor.

I think Mir was left out because anybody who has been watching MMA for a while knows that Mir is overrated and is not in the same league as Barnett and Couture, and does not deserve to be in the same ring as Fedor. And don’t say that he beat Nog. I thought that Nog looked shit against Sylvia and said that Sylvia coukd have beaten him if he had any balls tried to finish the fight and not go for his usual safe descision. I got slated for saying that and Mir did exactly what I thought Sylvia could easily have done.

What makes me laugh reading all these comments is the people like ‘John’ and a few others having a go at ‘UFC nuthuggers’. All you are doing is coming across as ‘Affliction nuthuggers’ so why don’t you all just shut up and enjoy MMA.
Instead of going on about how big my one is compared to yours. Or the ‘UFC nuthuggers started it’!! Grow up this ain’t a school playground.
Dana says what he says because it is a business, and I will be honest at the moment the better fights are generally in the UFC. Affliction puts on good match ups I enjoyed last night, BUT it is starting to run of good matchups at all weight classes and how much money is it burning to put on these good matchups.
UFC is the bigger brother and Affliction would do so much better if it didn’t try and compete full on. That is how EliteXC failed, I enjoy the fact there are more fights on tv thats all that matters to me.

There is a defference. UFC nuthuggers (that word is a bit childish) tend to want every other organisation to fail. Most MMA fans do not.

I hate to admit it, but the way fedor was performing last night… he would of completely got overwhelmed and owned by a noob such a Lesnar.

Not likley, The’re both best on the ground but Brock only has wrestling with limited submissions. Fedor has much more to offer all around. I’d like to see them both figh in a couple more years that i think would be a more ideal fight.

I realized why I want Fedor to lose.
Not because of Fedor, because he is a cool humble guy.
If you asked him if he was the greatest or if he could never lose, he would say no. He respects the fighters and the game. He knows anyone can lose at anytime.
Then there are these people say he can’t lose and that he is the greatest ever.
It is funny because they are the exact opposite of fedor.
When he won, he goes over to congratulate his opponent and give respect that he won and was able to stay safe.
The online dumbaces are the opposite… King Fedor, can’t lose! Haha! etc.
Its funny because the Fedor fans are the exact people that Fedor probably doesn’t like himself, loud cocky.

I do not think they are saying he can’t lose, just not be be beaten by the current crop of Heavyweights. Do you disagree with that? I have only ever thought Barnett stood the best chance. Would you not consider him the greatest, who else would you say was greater?. It is pretty strange that you want a fighter to lose not because he’s an @sshole, but beacsuse so many people and that includes fighters hold in him with such high regard. You do not just get loud and cocky Fedor fans, some GSP and BJ fans are the same, the Hughes fans used to be, Arlovski fans might be a little quieter now. Some are just pretty passionate

Well all the UFC sheeple have to admit Fedor is the man.I watched Aflliction in HD at $ 39.99 a whole cheaper than UFC and really liked the ring format, to me you could see the fight better than if it was in a cage. Don’t get me wrong I ike the UFC too, but Affliction is trying to put on great cards which is a win win for MMA fans.

I think Arlovski’s opened a lot of people’s eyes on how they view Fedor. He proved last night that Fedor isn’t as invincible as everyone thinks, and he was doing a damn good job of it until he got overconfident and got caught.
My fave fighters are now 0-2 in the last two weeks because of overconfident sloppiness: Kang, and now Arlovski. If my rotten luck has anything to do with it, this trend will continue, and GSP will attempt some kinda flashy spinning backfist and get caught in a standing rear naked choke.
by Hero-Of-Time on Jan 25, 2009 1:48 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I like Kang and AA also and they both have a TON of skill, but they just don’t have the mental game of GSP. The only stupid mistake GSP made was not showing up to fight Serra and that was more circumstances than his own doing. No worries, GSP won’t do anything stupid. At least I hope your rotten luck doesn’t have anything to do with it, because your rotten luck ends up being my rotten luck, lol.

Fedor is kind of like a zombie, just when you think he’s going to lose, boom. Fuck I really wanted AA to win, he’s a good fighter with a lot of shit luck in his past, it would have been the highlight of his career and he was the guy I wanted to do it not poopy pants. Everyone that fights fedor has the chance to beat him, he is human, and it just takes one hard punch to the chin and he’d get ko’d like everyone else, it just hasn’t happened yet but if he continues to fight eventually it will happen.

I agree with you dia mette and like the way herb dean handles things and is better than big john with the asking the fighters questions like you said. But at the same time big john is one of the best and does a great job as a ref, I didn’t like the gsp/serra 1 stoppage as i think he let that go on way too long as it was obvious gsp wasn’t intelligently defending him self he wasn’t even blocking the punches. I’ve met herb dean at a bar here in manitoba, he’s a cool guy a little smaller than I expected as I was a couple of inches taller than him. I’m 6’2 and I think he’s around 6 foot but for some reason I thought he was bigger than that.

Whoever thinks Fedor is invincible is wrong. That makes no sense, nobody is, but he is a fighter who knows how to finish fights and the best pound for pound fighter in MMA now. There is no arguement about it.Arlovsky was great until he makes that stupid mistake in my opinion the mistake of his career. How are you going to throw a jumping knee against a guy like Fedor. You were not fighting those average fighters that defeated before you fought Fedor.Sorry!Go Fedor! My favorite fighter.

Yeah, but to bad it sounds like it will be a guy with 16 oz gloves. I hope this loss will cause AA to get back in the mix and work towards a rematch, rather than waste his time with pro boxing. Mind you with the amount of cards Affliction puts out, it could take years for AA to get a couple of wins to earn another shot. Maybe he should stay sharp (or maybe a little sharper, lol) with boxing so he doesn’t get rusty. Does anyone know if AA plans to do only boxing for awhile and then come back to MMA, or is he just going to fill in between MMA events? I hope it’s the latter.
by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 3:23 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think when Roach was saying AA was gunna do pro boxing was if he got the win. He lost so i hope he sticks with MMA.
by belfort_fan on Jan 25, 2009 3:50 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Man I hope so. The one thing about AA is you’re all most always gauranteed a KO, one way or the other. To bad when it really counts, it tend to be the other, lol.
by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 5:07 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
So much for roach’s expert coaching advice LOL, didn’t he also say penn has the best boxing in mma, ya right. If AA just BOXED with fedor and stuck to that and avoided be taken down he would of had a good shot at winning, keep your damn hands up pitbull, fedor is sly and he wins by patiently waiting for his opponent to make a mistake, the smarter man won last night, not the better striker.
by nathan on Jan 25, 2009 2:29 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
That is true about the smarter man winning. It’s not even really about AA’s chin, because he has taken plenty of good shots in exchanges in the last 7 years. The 2 times he got KOed (last 7 years) was when he had 240 lbs of momentum running into 2 big fists. That just goes to show ya, brains will prevail over skill in a fight, because it was clear AA was the better striker and Fedor is as smart a fighter as they come, you just can’t make a mistake with him, especially one as blatant as AA did.

lol i would love to see the look on dana’s face… we all know that dana white is the most biased person in the world and that anything non ufc is inferior..but man if he makes another stupid comment about how fedor isn’t even in the top 5 he’ll sound like a complete jackass and everyone will laugh.. I am a fan of the sport not of the organization.. i like the ufc because they have the deepest talent pool right now but i don’t understand why ppl refuse to watch great fights on affliction just for the mere fact that it’s non ufc..
by bullshido on Jan 25, 2009 3:31 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Dana knows damn well how good Fedor is and the fact that Dana offered him more than double what any other UFC fighter ever got is a proof of that. Dana tried with money and that didn’t work so he’s resorting to enticing Fedor by other means. Fedor just ignores it because he is smart enough to know what Dana is up to. In an interview when Fedor was asked what Dana would say about him if he signed with the UFC, he said Dana would say he was the greatest fighter in the world.

I see why Fedor picked baby Fedor to be his training partner. That boy can take a punch (or should I say over 100). I forgot how much I liked watching Paul fight, he’s still has some sweet hands. So fluid for a big chunky guy.

As good as AA was doing, he still had to last another 20 plus minutes against Fedor, who has more ways to finish than him. But after the innumerable replays of Fedor destroying Timmay, just seeing Fedor being mildly disrupted was something to take note of. But the KO is all anyone’s gonna remember from this fight soon enough.
Fedor did look like he had to to go to the well on this one. If he’s got nine lives he used one up on this fight. AA is big, athletic, and a great striker who can defend takedowns. He has the physical tools to pressure Fedor bigtime. The mental tools? Not so much. Guess he got “Americanized” and flashy and it cost him big time.
Fedor is at his best when he is in trouble and pulls out the win. That’s what makes him the best fighter in the world to date. Randleman, Fujita, and now AA. No one handles pressure better. What’s insane is that he looks more and more like a slightly bulked up ordinary dude before the fights. He is a small HW and yet he’s still essentially undefeated after 30 fights. He took out Big Nog in his prime and Cro Cop in his prime. Both legends. Now he just took out AA in his prime.
Barnett is next. And he might be in his prime now, too. My concern is that Fedor is probably not in his prime anymore. He’s still got the will and the tools to beat anyone, but no more 8 week training camps and then vampiric pre-fight press tours. Every fight is a huge deal from here on out. 3 more wins and he can retire the greatest ever and no one can dispute that or touch his record.

I see what you are saying about still having to go more than 20 minutes, but if AA stuck to what was WORKING great, the same could be said for Fedor having to keep eating AA’s punches and kicks for more than 20 mins. Fedor was missing and AA was conecting for 3 minutes, so if that kept up (without flying knees of course)I don’t know if it would be guaranteed that Fedor would win. Fedor won no doubt, but I think a lot of people are going to be intrested in seeing a rematch. It was an exciting fight even though it didn’t last long. I just want to see some more of it.
by Gord on Jan 25, 2009 5:43 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
a rematch would be great and i think aa deserves one if he wants to stick to mma, but remember that just because aa is better at stand up than fedor dson’t even mean he can beat him in stand up like we saw, can aa go 5 rounds with out making a mistake?and we never saw the ground game so even if aa dominated fedor in stand up in a rematch fedor could always go back to that and don’t say fedor could not take him down if we saw fedor shoot over and over again and aa block every one than you could say that but he never really tried to get it there.

To all the people saying AA could have won the fight if he did not do the flying knee… So were all these people till Fedor won the fight back. Not the first time Fedor is losing and comes out victorious.
If Fujita had knocked Fedor out from that haymaker, he could have beaten Fedor
If Randleman had broken Fedor’s neck, he could have beaten Fedor
If Coleman had sunken in the RNC when he had Fedor’s back, he could have beaten Fedor
If Arona wasn’t fighting a Heavy weight, he could have beaten Fedor
If Crocop had connected his LHK, he could have beaten Fedor
If Hunt had sunken in the Americana, he could have beaten Fedor
If HMC knew some sub defense, he could have beaten Fedor
If Nog had another round in their third fight, he could have beaten Fedor
As for last night,
If AA had not gone for the flying knee, he could have beaten Fedor
Right guys?? They all could have won… but they didn’t.

Fedor KO’d Arlovski and was never scratched in the fight. He destroyed Tim Sylvia in 36 seconds. He beat a game Mark Coleman twice easily. He beat one of the best jiu-jitsu heavyweights ever in Big Nog twice. He also beat Cro Cop when Cro cop was unbeatable. He has only one loss and it was by cut 10 seconds into the thing by an illegal blow. Fedor avenged that loss and has won 30 straight fights.
Guess what he had a gut in all those fights. The man deserve respect all he has done is destroy his opponets for 8 years without a loss almost all of them title fights.

people are acting like this was the only fight Fedor was ever gettin beat it. In the Fujida fight he was in some trouble. The thing about Fedor is he always capiyalizes on every mistake his opponent makes. It wasn’t a lucky punch, it’s Fedor’s abbility to capitalizes on any mistake his opponent makes.

FLYING KNEE………WHY!
Arlovski needed to just stay out of range and make it a Decision match but fedor took advantage of a mistake so there is nothing lucky about that punch.Dont get me wrong i wanted Arlovski to win and i thought he was gonna do it.
Well done Fedor and nice showing Arlovski.

I been watching Fedor fight since he was fighting in pride and he is the best fighter in the world, althought i’m a bit concern that he is getting older and i think is time for him to retired. He did not look 100% on Saturday but never the less he accomplished what we all know he is capable off.
For me he will always be the king since he is been undisputed champion for many years. See anybody on UFC doing that.
Champions come and go, but he is been there for a long time now
