MMA Quick Quote: Tito Ortiz wants to see Vitor Belfor fight Anderson Silva

Vitor Belfort

"Wow! That's all I got to say. Vitor at 185 pounds. I don't know. I see him beating the, uh, what was it, Anderson Silva. I see him picking him apart because you have two great boxers, and, man, that was amazing. That was the old Vitor Belfort that we all want to see. Him at 131 years old. He's back for vengeance."

-- Former UFC light heavyweight champion and current Affliction MMA color commentator, Tito Ortiz, makes the case for Vitor Belfort taking on UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. The remarks were made after "The Phenom" pulverized Matt Lindland -- widely regarded as a top-ranked middleweight in the world -- with a brutal first round blitzkrieg, landing six of seven strikes en route to a scary-looking knockout. It was the second impressive win for the former 205-pound fighter since making the drop to middleweight. Terry Martin was the other victim back at "Banned" in July 2008. Let's just hope if it ever does happen it comes before Belfort's 132nd birthday. Poor Tito. This was just after he started singing, "Good night sweet dog because it's time to go." Yikes.

This is actually a possibility. After last nights fight, Vitor became a free agent! If the UFC wants to go after him, nOW is the time!

I would love to see Vitor back in te UFC, I’ll always be a fan.

by Haze on Jan 25, 2009 10:32 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

now is the time! He is a free aganet now, but after his last 2 Ko’s, he is going to demand a nice salary increase, and I dont think UFC will value him as much as affliction does. I expect to see Vito re-sign with Affliction.

I would love to see Vitor vs. Akiyama

After the Babalu/Lindland fight did anyone else pick up on what Tito has said? Everyone know that Tito, ONLY refers to himself as “One of the Top LHW’s in the World”. While interviewing Babalu, Tito asks Babalu who he wants to fight next, hoping that he would say “you Tito”. But no, Babalu said that Lil Nog looked great and he would love nothing more than to fight him. Then Tito says something like “How about a fight with me in a few months”. Then Babalu lets out a high pitched laugh and walks away! LOL THen Tito says “Well, Babalu, you are one of the greatest LHW’s, OF THE NIGHT!”. LOW BLOW! Babalu should have B*tch slapped him on the spot!

vM: My bad I couldnt answer my phone. I woke up at like 8 pm last night, and didnt get the chance to put minutes on my phone.

Props to Vitor for ko’ing lindland before he could bore us to death!

How did betting go for you last night?

Vitor has always been one of my favorite fighters, but he would get killed by Anderson!! Anyone at 185 would… but I would LOVE to see him back in the UFC, maybe against Cote or Bisping, Hendo or Franklin. There are a bunch of great fights for him in the UFC 185 division!!

I only had peanuts to play with – REALLY wish I had more to lay down on Fedor because it was guaranteed money, just like next fight will be…

I won a small bet on Brett Cooper
I lost a small bet on The Janitor – what the F was he thinking, didn’t attempt a SINGLE takedown, WTF!!
And I won a small amount on Fedor – I bet the prop that he would finish AA and got -250 instead of the standard -375 for him to win the fight.

VM – I gotta rewatch the post fight ‘in-ring’ interview with Babalu vs. Ortiz. I recalled Babalu calling out Tito saying ‘Tito, go get your back fixed, and then we can fight’ ….and Tito agreed that he’d like to fight Sobral.

Called this fight. Speed kills. Love guys that can always get there before the opponent can even try to react. I wanna see him against Mousasi for sure. That would be a great fight and we can see for sure if he’s put his problems behind.

Vitor is actually the first UFC fighter that I idolized and paid homage to. So sad not to see him right now like he was when he was 20! He should just be peaking at this age, how old is he again? Like 131?

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Jan 25, 2009 4:22 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Vitor would be great in the UFC MW div, but Anderson would kill him.

Mex: U r usually a basher of everything that isnt UFC. But you cant tell me that you werent entertained with last nights fight card! your thoughts?

by john on Jan 25, 2009 11:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I just read your thoughts on the long write up you did. So you answered my question already! AS much as you hate all non uFC mma, I am happy to read that you enjoyed the action last night. tHanks for keeping it real mex!

by john on Jan 25, 2009 11:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks. I dont hate all thats non-UFC. I just find it rediculous when some of the other orgs try to perpetrate that they are the next big thing and that they have a superior brand, when in fact they are far from it. Elite was a perfect example. I actually like watching Dream, and the Affliction show last night was pretty good, but then you hear about them not paying guys on time (Dream) and then they get involved with WAMMA (they are nothing but a joke,) it kind of makes it hard to want to like these executives that run the other promotion in the MMA business because they are the ones that the mainstream media will use as examples as to why MMA is not really that popular because these promotions go out of business.

Belfort_fan, he’s said it’s new vitor. we don’t want old vitor otherwise he’ll lose his next fight. I like this new vitor.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 25, 2009 2:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Back to his winning ways.. I know if it was the old Vitor he wouldnt stand a chance with Lindland. Its the new and improved Vitor Belfort.

by belfort_fan on Jan 25, 2009 3:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Very true. His “streak” would end with Anderson killing him

by krusty on Jan 25, 2009 12:47 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

i would give vitor a chance in that fight, anderson comes with great angles but vitor is super fast and has plenty of power so he could catch him.

lol! I cracked up when he started singing…

Affliction has a long way to go if it wants to beat the dynamic duo of Rogan and Goldberg!

Tito wants to see VItor fight silva? I want to see TIto stop being a Bitch and accept a fight with Babalu! Babalu will choke Tito’s big head, purple!

by john on Jan 25, 2009 10:47 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Disagree completely Tito is bigger and a better wrestler than Babalu. So it would be very difficult for Babalu to get him down and get a dominant position. Tito is a very difficult guy to finish unless your name is Chuck Liddell. Not to mention Tito’s cardio is better than Babalu. I see Tito winning a decision in a three round fight or getting a TKO by ground and pound if Babalu gasses like he did against Lambert. Also it’s hard for Tito to accept a fight with anyone until he knows when and where he’ll be competing next.

by Tyler on Jan 25, 2009 12:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Tito wouls beat Babalu with eas.. But Damn wasnt Belfort impressive!!!!

by belfort_fan on Jan 25, 2009 2:09 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes absolutely Belfort was impressive even though Lindland has been laid out before!

by Tyler on Jan 25, 2009 9:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Bas would be a start. I think Mauro is pretty good too. Funny, usually people rip on Goldie but now people are realising he’s very good at his job lol. No, everyone knows he’s very good but they just like to have a laugh at the Goldbergisms becaue they’re quality.

by RobH86 on Jan 25, 2009 11:37 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Goldberg is garbage man, he is so annoying and tries so hard to impress Joe Rogan its ridiculous…

by brendan on Jan 25, 2009 3:55 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Goldie ain’t that bad[as compared to John McCarthy, hehe!]…

by Syd[a.k.a."The Negation"] on Jan 25, 2009 4:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah, but goldie does always look like he wants to lean in just a little bit further and finally give rogan that first kiss.

Speaking of Big John, it was great to see him back as the third man in the ring. Let’s get it on!

by naturalshadow on Jan 25, 2009 7:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

lets do it!! Vitor is the better boxer and he has lightning quick hands.. and Tito is the man, that guy is hilarious!

by RoB on Jan 25, 2009 10:06 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Screw Tito… Vitor is the Man!!

by belfort_fan on Jan 25, 2009 2:11 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Vitor doesn’t stand a chance against Anderson. You would think that Tito would have some brain capacity with that huge head of his. Anderson vs. Vitor would end badly. I don’t think Vitor could get past a Rich Franklin or Dan Henderson altough I would like to see him in the UFC. A rematch against Wanderlei would be interesting I’m sure Wandy would be up for it.

by jimmy_dean on Jan 25, 2009 10:14 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Yup, Anderson would rip him apart. Belfort has great boxing, sure. BUT this is MMA and ANderson has great boxing, muay thai, kickboxing, BJJ…

dont they train together now?

by john on Jan 25, 2009 11:12 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Not sure, I thought Vitor was thinking about moving to Vegas so he could train at Xtreme Couture. Didn’t he train with them for the Terry Martin fight?

by RobH86 on Jan 25, 2009 11:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think you are right! If I remember correctly, he was training with ChuteBox in Brazil and Extrem Coutuer in Vegas. GOod call Rob!

Tito should stay away from all jobs that require him to talk. It was embarrassing how bad he was.

I’d say he should go back to fighting, but the only guy he can seem to beat is Ken Shamrock.

by R-Dizzle on Jan 25, 2009 11:08 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

he’s recovering from back surgery!

by RoB on Jan 25, 2009 11:36 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Tito was horrible as a commentator but he annoyed me a lot worse than Farrell. That’s a voice only a mother could love.

by Flash on Jan 25, 2009 10:22 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I loved it when tito combined 185 and 31 years old.

“he’s 131 years old”

titonub.

by rockwell on Jan 25, 2009 10:33 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

wow i knew vitor has been in the sport for a while but man lol

by ruan-fiy on Jan 25, 2009 11:01 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

come on. first cung le and now vitor? why is it that whoever at 185 is able to string together a few wins outside the octagon is now capable of challenging AS?

by JB on Jan 25, 2009 10:40 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

because MW division is horrible and no one can string together more than 2 or 3 wins.

by c-war on Jan 25, 2009 12:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

vitor knocked out the number 2 ranked MW in nasty fashion is why, noone can deny lindland was legit number2 guy til lastnight cause noone else is deserving of that label

by braveheart on Jan 25, 2009 11:20 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

moaning about a back that he just got a surgery on.. he’ll be back when he’s healthy!

by RoB on Jan 25, 2009 12:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Did anyone notice how dyslexic Tito sounded with his words. He kept messing up his words when interviewing everyone, it was hilarious at first but quickly became REALLY annoying to watch.

by ufcjohn on Jan 25, 2009 11:25 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

He was certainly uncomfortable to watch during the in ring interviews after the fight but during the fights I thought he was good pointing things out about the fighters strengths and what they were doing from a fighters point of view also loved it when he said Lauzon was putting on a bit of an act which was confirmed by a couple of replays where it was clear Green didn’t nail him clean in the nuts!

by Tyler on Jan 25, 2009 2:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I remember reading the Belfort and A. Silva train together in Brazil.

That was over a year ago though, so don’t know if it’s still the case.

Well, at least it would be better than Anderson Silva’s recent cans, like James Irvin and Patrick Cote. That Patrick Cote fight, man, I would’ve called my credit card company and asked for my money back if I’d had paid for that.

by Yoshi on Jan 25, 2009 11:33 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

vitor said in an interview that the reason americans put on the best match ups is because they don’t care about fighting their friends and thinks that all the brazilians who won’t fight another brazilian are stupid. so i’m sure he’d be down to fight anderson.

by ActionJackson on Jan 25, 2009 11:52 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I guess he’s never heard of American Kickboxing Academy.

yeah cote vs anderson sucked balls but im glad to see the old vitor back and i think the ufc should get him back, stack middleweight up even more

Vitor is a bjj blackbelt, and very solid in the pocket, but silva is stick and move= great fight If vitor has a chin he wins fight!!!!!

As soon as they put the camera on Tito, he not talk coudlnt speak right. When he was commentating from ringside and off camera he seemed to make sense and have a good handle on things, but as soon as those lights were shining on his grape apeishness, he go dum dum. And who was that drag queen?
Good fights though.

I mostly remember the babalu sokadju fight how the first half tito was biased on babalu, giving only sokadju support, then they must have told him stop cus all of a sudden, “babalu a great fighter”.

Vitor ans silva would be awesome
I think silva would capitalize on reach

Belfort will knock out A. Silva in the first round.

by GodDamnMike on Jan 25, 2009 2:34 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

by belfort_fan on Jan 25, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Vitor has been TKO’d twice in his career. Anderson Silva has never been TKO’d. If that fight were to end via a first round knockout the smart money says Vitor would be the unconscious one.

by GregC on Jan 25, 2009 5:05 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Belfort is tough and has KO power in both hands, but Anderson SIlva’s striking is so much more than Just KO power in both hands…hes got knees, kicks, pin point accuracy. And Silva has a great chin….way better than I thought.

My mouth was open for lik 3 minutes flat after fedor knock out arlovski…lik i was actuli startin to think arlovski is gonna win this fight ..fedor luks off and then BAM as if it was nothing. Wud luv to see Fedor and Brock duke it out inside the octagon especially if Brock gets a few more fights under his belt and develops his ground game a bit more!
