Sengoku 7: Mohammed 'King Mo' Lawal vs Ryo Kawamura

World Victory Road held a recent press conference to announce the first bout for its Sengoku 7 event which takes place on Friday, March 20 at the National Yoyogi Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.

The first official fight of the card will feature wrestling phenom and breakout star Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (3-0).

The Team Quest standout has been on a ferocious tear since debuting at Sengoku ‘Fifth Battle’ back in September, demolishing veteran of the sport Travis Wiuff (54-12) with relative ease.

In the span of just four months since his debut got underway, Mo has continued to dominate his opponents and boost his record to 3-0, entertaining fans along the way with his fighting style and colorful personality.

Lawal seems right at home in Japan with his theatrics and thankfully he can back them up when it comes fight time.

In his post fight speech after his last win at Sengoku ‘Rebellion’ on January 4 (a TKO victory over Yukiya Naito) "King Mo" stated that he wants to fight on every single Sengoku card of 2009.

No arguments here.

Star-divide

Lawal has now been put to the task of facing current light heavyweight King of Pancrase Ryo Kawamura (9-3-2).

Another scheduled bout set to go down at "Seventh Battle" was Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Champions Jeff Monson and Roger Gracie battling it out. However the fate of that fight is now up in the air as Monson faces first-degree malicious mischief charges, putting the scheduled bout with Gracie in jeopardy.

World Victory Road also announced they would hold six events in 2009, taking place in March, May, July, August, September and November.

The full line-up for their Featherweight Tournament looks to be complete and will be officially announced sometime next week. As of now, undefeated featherweight King of Pancrase Marlon Sandro (12-0) is the only fighter to have confirmed his participation in the Tournament.

And last but not least a four man mini-tournament to crown the organization's first ever heavyweight champion is being planned for sometime in late 2009. It would likely feature Josh Barnett and possibly Antonio Silva.

Stay tuned for event updates for Sengoku "Seventh Battle" as they develop.

Barnett abnd Silva would be interesting in the heavyweight division
What weight does King Mo fight at? He looks class every time. No one’s really made him look too uncomfortable yet

185 but he said he wants to fight at 205 as well. I think he was an olympic wrestler or almost made the olympics last year. But the crazy thing about him is he hasnt taken the fight down hardly at all. I think he is going to be a monster. I feel he is a lot like rampage.

Another great matchup from Sengoku. Kawamura was holding his own against Randleman. We’ve seen him test his wrestling and striking, hopefully we’ll see Mo flexing his sub game this around.

Met Mo before…he’s the real deal. Tough as hell and a super nice guy. He’s gonna be a champ of SOME organization in 2008. Mark my words.

He seemed cool on Inside MMA. I like his style (I mean his cape and crown, but his wresting and hands are good too)

I’ve seen all of King Mo’s fights..This dude is the next Rampage..UFC look out, they will sign this dude down the road..He’s still evolving and has tremendous potential, especially with his wrestling background.

I watched a lesner fight where he was hitting the other fighter that was on his back. lesner was using hammer blows hitting him on the side of his face. The other fighter turned his head in an attempt to roll over. Lesner hit him on the back of his head. The ref. called time and took a point from lesner, without even one warning. It seemed to me that the ref might have a problem with lesner comming to the UFC. Did anyone else see it that way or did I missread the ref’s intent?
