XMMA 7 'Inferno:' Cristiane 'Cyborg' Santos vs Marloes Coenen

Last month MMAmania.com reported that former Elite XC female powerhouse Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (6-1) had signed a one fight deal to compete on the XMMA 7: "Inferno" card on February 27 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The promotion recently announced that Dutch submissions artist Marloes Coenen would be her opponent.

Cyborg - the wife of former Pride FC fighter Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos - burst onto the scene in May of 2008 with a dominating performance against Shayna Baszler in her debut under the Elite XC banner. Like her husband, she's a product of the Brazilian Chute Boxe Academy, a style that's evident as soon as she steps foot in the cage.

Her most recent fight was in October 2007 on the Elite XC "Heat" card. She out-pointed Yoko Takahashi on the judges scorecards for a unanimous decision. It was a hard fought battle, but another impressive win for Santos nonetheless.

It's interesting to note that three of Marloes Coenen's sixteen career wins have come against Takahashi.

Star-divide

Coenen has over eight years of professional fight experience to her credit and an impressive mixed martial arts record of 16-2. She's currently on a three-fight win streak after losing only the second fight of her career in a close split-decision to Roxanne Modafferi back in 2007.

Like her Brazilian counterpart, the Deventer, Holland native likes to finish her opponents early and often. A staggering 11 of her 16 wins have come by way of submission.

On paper, the Dutch destroyer matches up well with Santos. It's not going to be an easy fight for Cyborg, and a loss could potentially harm the marketability of a future fight with female MMA superstar Gina Carano. We'll see what happens come fight night, but either way it should be a good one for the Canadian fans.

Also in action, Phil "The New York Badass" Baroni will face off against Guillaume "Il Toro" de Lorenzi in the night's main event.

HELLLLZ yes, this is what ive been waiting for, the 2 female faces of MMA to get back into the picture, one down, one to go.

Anybody hear ANY kind of news on Gina these days?

Gina is the most overrated female fighter. There are a few girls out there that would mop the floor with her and I think this Cristiane Santos chick is definately one of them. Sarah Kaufman fron Canada would knock her out as well.

This fight is gonna be sick. I was hoping sarah would get called in to fight cyborg but i can live this. Also you guys should keep an eye out for a new female talent – cat albert.

She’s hopefully contemplating exposing her huge Tits in either Playboy or some low budget straight to video movie.

I was hoping they would have her fight Kalib Starnes

Yeah, uh, im pretty sure the women undergo the same if not stricter regulations that the men do.
So I wanna say they don’t allow steroids either?

by The Anomaly on Jan 21, 2009 3:12 PM EST up reply actions

I love when people make asses of themselves hurling accusations of steroid use with Zero proof.

Don’t u ever notice that the morons who say they hate Women’s MMA and other derogatory bullsh*t about it always seem to get defensive about their opinion mattering?? Well the real issue is, if you hate Women’s MMA SO much, then why r u actually reading and then commenting on a post that is about Women’s MMA?

If I could care less about a particular topic or fighter or the like, I PASS UP THE ARTICLE, POST, BLOG and move on to something I actually am interested in. I don’t go on there just to make some stupid comment to try and rile up the other people who actually care about it and say intelligent things about it.

Now this is not to say you can’t have your opinions, but this is just pure trying to sound tough or manly or whatever it is u think u r doing making a negative comment; only thing is, you are actually showing how immature and idiotic you really are.

This is going to be a great fight. Marloes can easily beat Carano and will beat Cyborg as well.
