Best quote ever???? Well then I think “My Dad can beat up your Dad!!” is the other best post. Both were written by a toddler’s intelligence at recess.

BJ Penn is arrogant but you can’t take that away from his natural abilities as a fighter..he’s a true, natural figther..he’s going to come to this fight in the best shape of his career..he understands the magnitude of this fight..BJ Penn will be ready..I want BJ to WIN, but I wouldn’t be surprised if GSP comes out on top..They’re both superb figthers..That said, BJ lets get it homey!!!!! Make history!!!1

Yea but Penn is taking vacations and not really training, and then goes swimming when he’s supposed to be training. I think next show, someone might get eliminated from the house.

All the hype really is a double-edged sword: I’m looking forward like hell to this fight, but am concerned that this tilt might fall victim to its own expectations. I know Dana and the UFC want to promote the crap out of this one to get teh PPV buys, but sometimes it’s better to let a thing stand on its own two legs, and be judged after it has occurred.
And with that: G S P F T W
Down wit da riddum since that ridiculous jump right before the Miller fight…

Yeah, BJ really does make it hard to dig him outside of the octagon. I’m a big time suppoter of the guy for sure but i sometimes cringe when BJ surrenders his intelligence in an interview or gets a hold of a microphone. Weird little bastard.

by Robert(1) on Jan 20, 2009 10:11 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Love it. St. Pierre a gentleman like always. And penn a trashy rich kid, who’s got a large yapp. It will be the other way around, penn will think “Shit, this guy is far better than he was” and Georges will win convincingly. I kinda hope Georges runs right thru penn in the 1st round, maybe Dana White wont put so much faith (and money, and drama) into a fighter, and American, like penn. This will NOT go the distance!! Just you watch.
by GodDamnMike on Jan 20, 2009 10:39 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
What does his country of origin have to do with it? Dana shouldn’t put any faith in American fighters?

(1)
I think most agree that GSP has the edge in cardio, athleticism and wrestling…but what about his chin?
Serra found his chin and nullified GSPs offense so why couldn’t BJ?
(2)
Which BJ will show up to the fight?
Could we see a “new” BJ we have never seen before? If he shows up with improved cardio, speed and strength beyond his last showing, could this be enough to win? Will the extra weight be flab or muscle?
by DubNub on Jan 20, 2009 10:54 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I’m pretty sure BJ will show up ripped at WW (or a little less) just cuz he’ll have put in the time and sick of everyone calling him pugdy, though, like Couture said, will that be enough to hang with St.Pierre??
by GodDamnMike on Jan 20, 2009 11:34 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
(1) I don’t think there should be any question of GSPs chin. From what i can remember that was the only punch that ever rattled him and I think that punch caught him behind his ear.
by Firecrap on Jan 20, 2009 11:34 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Oh yes yes, you are correct Firecrap. I give the pudge about 0% chance of landing that one on The Georges. His jabs are’nt gonna be a real factor in this fight. And his hook will just get him slammed hard on the back of his head. He just can’t match the explosiveness of the Canadien.

BJ just needs to keep his fingers out of GSP’s eyes.

by cmon on Jan 20, 2009 12:01 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs

by Kdog on Jan 21, 2009 12:55 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Serra didn’t find his chin. He found the back of his head, behind the ear. Watch the fight.
by Chainlink on Jan 20, 2009 12:51 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed. He did duck forward and was hit with a punch to the back of the head. I’m not making excussed for his loss to Serra. I think if you duck forward like that during a fight then you put yourself at risk for a punch like that. I know Serra didn’t do that on purpose. I would say though that if a fighter had another’s back and intentionally threw that punch the fight would be stopped—ala Mir, Lesnar. The point I was trying to get across earlier was that GSP doesn’t have a suspect chin. To back up my point even further look at the punishment BJ gave him in their first fight.
by Chainlink on Jan 20, 2009 2:18 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t think it’s possible to hit a fighter in the back of the head while they’re standing in front of you. The punch GSP got caught with was by the ear, but it wasn’t the back of the head. The same thing happened in Couture vs. Lesnar. The rule is meant to protect the very back of the head by the spinal cord, that’s where it’s really dangerous to get hit.
by GregC on Jan 20, 2009 3:58 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
So when you go to the ufc web sie it lists his loss by tapout?

by Firecrap on Jan 20, 2009 2:00 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Made him quit? Did you actually watch the fight? He tried to survive, but Serra did the smart thing and bombarded him with punches until the ref stopped it. Serously dude, are you and all the other BJ nut huggers trying to say that GSP has a suspect chin because after 17 fights as a pro he’s been knocked out once; by a fighter with some pretty good power I might add. Come hater, you can do better then that!

by stein man on Jan 31, 2009 10:57 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Serra didn’t test his chin; he hit GSP behind the eat. Even Fedor would go gone on that punch.
by charlyw on Jan 20, 2009 9:55 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well, a couple good reasons BJ couldn’t (or at least shouldn’t)is because Serra found his chin at the back of his head first and he ONLY found it the ONLY time GSP didn’t show up. Serra hit him how many times and GSP STILL wasn’t out? Did Serra find his chin when GSP was himself in the rematch? Has anyone else (including BJ)ever found his chin in the other 18 fights? Don’t you think it’s a stretch to say a guy has a bad chin when he has only been in trouble the one time he didn’t show up. I think it’s also a stretch if anyone thinks GSP will make that mistake again. Sure he was rocked when Serra kept hitting him, but most guys can’t take more than 3 flush shots when they are on queer steet and GSP took a lot more than that, so I think his chin is fine. Lets just say he does have a weak chin, it’s a moot point, because other than 1 time he has always protected it well. For all the people who didn’t notice BJ was only able to hit (hurt) GSP for a couple of minute when he couldn’t see, are in for a RUDE awakening if they think BJ will have the upper hand in the striking, in this fight. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to plainly see BJ did all his damage in the time frame GSP was seeing double. If I was a BJ fan I’d be more worried about the fact that Sherk (with his 50" reach)was able to rock BJ 2 times, than GSP’s weak chin. When GSP rocks BJ he will follow up with one of those nice knee, kick combos that dropped Fitch. The difference will be BJ won’t be able to take the beating Fitch did and survive. BJ is going down and OUT this time.
by Gord on Jan 21, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
GSP has always been a classy guy, very much an ambassador of the sport; his only hiccup being the “not impressed by your performance” moment.
But you can’t fault BJ for talking with supreme confidence. It takes a lot of self confidence to even step into the octagon, let alone having the notion that you want to be the best in the world.
BJ believes he can be the best and he went and called out the toughest guys ever at WW. If BJ doesn’t have 100% confidence that he can beat GSP, and that he’s a better fighter than he’s already lost. I don’t mind Penn’s smack talk because he backs it up in his fights big time.
No one has ever rolled through BJ Penn in a fight. Some guys have edged him in super close fights and Matt Hughes got the benefit of a cracked rib. But even when he hasn’t been in top shape, BJ has always brought it come fight time And remember it is him in there all alone. Whatever you gotta tell yourself and the world to get yourself mentally ready for that moment is fine with me.
by revjames13 on Jan 20, 2009 2:07 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
GSP is gonna destroy Penn, no question about it. I still don’t understand the hype that comes with BJ Penn. First off, what has he done? what has he really done in the ring that warrants his consideration as one of the best pound for pound fighters??? Sure, he’s a flexible guy, probably more flexible than anyone i’ve ever seen, but what else is there? Anyone who feels they can answer that question, bring it on…..
Also, the guy is an ass. I’m pretty easy when it comes to the personalities of these fighters, and from everything i’ve seen and heard from BJ, he’s a total ass. The icing on the cake is his jackass response to Rogan everytime he wins a fight……“Anything you want to know about BJ Penn, go to BJ Penn dot com!!” What a dick. I actually did that once, and there was nothing there…………..
by kg on Jan 20, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
What has he done? Are you serious KG? Lemme just start with saying that there are but 3 fighters on the list of men that have accomplished “champion” level status in more than one weight class, and BJ Penn is one of them.
You got any arguements against that, BRING IT ON.
by The Anomaly on Jan 20, 2009 9:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’m not disputing his belts, or the fact that he’s fought in multiple weight divisions. I just question his consideration as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. I’ll tell you what, if he beats GSP on Jan 31st, he will earn my consideration, but he needs to dominate a dominant fighter to earn that distinction. It wasn’t that long ago that he got his ass kicked by an over the hill matt hughes. Best pound for pound fighter is a pretty small club in my book. I only consider two dudes in that realm, GSP and Anderson.
by kg on Jan 21, 2009 2:30 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
You already heard mine about taking the easy way to the belt and taking the TRUE champion route. Like I said before, BJ beat Matt Hughes to get his WW belt and GSP beat the whole WW div. to get his. There really is more to it than just # of belts, because Brock already has half as many belts as BJ.
by Gord on Jan 21, 2009 5:06 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’ll agree with BJ on two points:
1 – “To beat GSP, you have to be better than him”. Correct…And seeing as BJ is not better than GSP, he won’t win.
2 – “The one thing GSP will know as soon as we start fighting is…man, this isn’t the same BJ Penn. He’s a different fighter”. Correct…BJ is older, slower, fatter and more out of shape than GSP.

Anderson silva is considered the best in the world by almost everyone and fedor a close second. Penn is huge egomaniac and if anything I think he’ll be surprised by gsp, and think holy shit what have I got myself into. I won’t be surprised at all if gsp wins convincingly but will be if penn wins just my two cents.

True the serra loss was a devestating loss to gsp and his fans considering he was a 10-1 favorite and lost in such an embarrassing manner. His first loss to hughes wasn’t all that bad considering he was an underdog and was doing well until he got caught. If gsp loses to penn after a long hard fought out battle, my hat goes off to penn, even though I think he’s a moron. I’ll give credit where credit is due because gsp is clearly one of the toughest most well rounded fighters in MMA.

i just hate the fact that penn gets a free shot at gsp’s belt while if gsp wins he gets nothing…except proof that he’s better than bj and one of the top 3 in the world…but still, bj’s a douchebag

So what BJ challenged Georges for the WW belt. The little bastard should’ve had to get by at least Thiago Alves before getting a pass all the way to the belt. Won’t matter anyways, Georges is gonna give him the beatdown he deserves. Sending him back to the LW division a beaten man.
by Couchchamp on Jan 21, 2009 2:40 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
BJ showed what little class he has by running into the ring after GSPs win and calling him out, GSP won the fight, for that moment for that moment its his ring and the last thing on his mind is another fight. BJ knows its the only way he would have gotten the fight, by making a spectacle and stealing the spotlight from a class individual like GSP.

Excelent wrestling by GSP. His takedowns where precise and his groundwork proved that he has evloved amazingly well and continues to evolve. BJ Penn showed great heart to carry on moving, and try and defend as much as possible but GSP was to much for him. Great display.

I’ve been watching these two fighters for many years now and I have to say that BJ Penn is a fantastic and able fighter with the potential to be the champion, however…the guy needs to be taught a damned lesson in humility. His mouth is about as big as his ego and I think its time for him to eat his words. I mean the guy can’t say anything nice, at least anything encouraging. I had fun wacthing him get owned.
GSP is another great fighter, and I think he has a certain set of qualities that most men admire. The guy doesn’t talk trash which is quite an admirable quality and he doesn’t say nasty shit. Although I do admire BJPenn and all his qualities as a fighter, I really can’t stand the mouth on this guy. I’m glad he got owned just because he’s one of the worst trash talkers out there. And it pissed me off the last time they fought when he called GSP a quitter. That wasn’t nice at all. Only my opinion.
