Best blog so far in this series…. not a huge Shogun fan and he totally lost me in that fight but I do like his respect a cander, I hope he goes and trains with Wanderlei for some conditioning tips……

All nonverbal and verbal cues suggest a lack of passion. Coming into the ring, warm up, and fight – all lackadaisical

He is hilarious… “I havent been this excited since they tried to steal me lucky charms” hahahahaha

are you kidding me?? normally I would agree, but for these blogs joe is a breath of fresh air… that look on his face was priceless!

He’s punishing Shogun by putting him in there with a guy who is 1-3 in his last four fights. Two of those being KO losses. As bad as Shogun looked last night, Chuck certainly hasn’t looked much better.
And that Eagles loss suckkkkkkkkkkkkked. Damnit.

1. Steelers gonna win it
2. Rogan sounded stupid and looked very stupid
3. Cardinals are underrated, big time
4. Chuck vs Shogun, I can’t decide who’s worse. Probably Shogun

Fighting Chuck Is more of a gift then punishment, face it liddell fans its time for retirement.

Definitely best blog, Alistair is a shoe-in. I wouldn’t mind seeing semmy either but don’t know how that works. Rogan came through with hilarity even though he was particularly unbearable in the PPV. Also, gotta love the way Dellagrote makes his way into every blog. It’s like where’s waldo but now where’s dellagrote.
by NameNotRequired on Jan 18, 2009 4:42 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
your point about dellagrote (who i like) is spot on. your remark reminds me of the forrest gump scenes with forrest being in every critical scene in american history. where’s waldo is perfect.

to be honest i was most impressed with the crowd, i didnt ralise that many people here in my homeland were that educated in mma, as in not booing and cheering for sub attempts! savage crowd! sign overeem, bring cro cop back and make the fight! liddell will crush shogun regardless if its shogun at the top of his game or a poorly conditioned one, his attacking style will suit liddell, and for all those still hanging of shoguns balls, the man couldnt finish a hands down exhausted 44 year old coleman in the first when shogun was still fresh – wtf??
by jslim on Jan 18, 2009 4:30 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, best blog so far. I think Chuck will KO him in the 1st. Vintage Iceman at 97. Get Alistair against Kongo, then against BigNog, and if he wins both, Brock Lesnar!

Was it Big or Lil’ nog that made Overeem’s corner throw in the towel? I almost positive it was little Nog but am unsure right now…..

Best blog so far, Bisping has a good chance to beat Hendo IMO, Rashad is just as good a wrestler and Bisping held his own, at 185 he’ll be even stronger. Shogun vs Liddell how do you guys feel about that? I think it’s the perfect fight for them both, a loss would be the end of the ice-man, loss for Shogun not the end but devasting. Good matchup!
by Robert(1) on Jan 18, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Absolutely the best blog so far. I can’t wait until Overreem is officially signed and given a fight, he should try and get at least 1 win before he goes after the big dogs of the division. Not saying he couldn’t hang right away but being 1-0 in the UFC and fighting a top guy seems to work more often than guys immediately going after the elite. Chuck vs Shogun should be a good scrap, I don’t really see Liddell having a chance to be honest. Shogun last night was obviously not himself, but the first camp after a long layoff and injuries is never easy. I speak from experience, collapsed lung from bacterial pneumonia kept me out 5 months, when i got back in the gym for another 5 I had my first amateur fight and had zero gas tank, really bad nerves and couldn’t explode at all. The next camp I had was much easier and I did so much better that time. Anyways, entertaining card last night nothing amazing!!!
hit every pick except for Lytle/Davis…I had to go with Lytle he is one of my all-time favorites…

yeah still a Shogun fan, but his performance against coleman was indeed questionable, hope he does go with wanderlei and get his cardio back haha, it’d be a good fight too against chuck

Did anyone kinda feel bad for Ninja when Dana was talking to Shogun and offering him the Chuck fight? I kinda felt as though he should have asked Ninja to come fight for the UFC too…
I know he’s still under contract with EliteXC, but it’s only a matter of time before they disappear completely, and Dana knows that.
Unless its some kinda under-contract rule where you can’t discuss going to another org??

I know, but he’s a big name and considered by many to still be among the best 185’rs in the world.
by Hero-Of-Time on Jan 18, 2009 5:21 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I know in other sports you can’t offer contracts to people if they have one already, “tampering”
So I doubt if he would talk to Ninja he would say anything on his blog lol..
Ninja is worth a shot, he is well known, and can beat most people outside the top 2-3 in mw

i would hire him likes, but only cos the 185lbs divsion sucks ass and it needs to have more known names added to the roster.

Anyone think Kang will be fighting on the Montreal card? He didn’t suffer any damage whatsoever against Belcher. They could give him Reljic, Palhares, Sakara, CB or Almeida. Any one of those fights would be good for him.
by Hero-Of-Time on Jan 18, 2009 5:43 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
Its possible, I would think he would want to quickly rebound and what better place then the country he trains
by Rob on Jan 18, 2009 5:59 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I’d like to see Kang vs. Palhares. I know Horn is incredibly experienced, but he’s also susceptible to submissions. I was surprised that Palhares couldn’t finish him, and I think Kany and Palhares could put together an entertaining match.

No he isn’t. He was dropping to MW before he got injured.
by Marauder on Jan 18, 2009 10:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
He deserves it. Out of all the fights of the night this one was the hardest for me accept.
He was OWNING Belcher and I rarely dislike fighters cos I have a lot of respect for anyone who gets in there and throws down but he is a disillusioned little punk. Especially the locker room interview he had. Wake up buddy you AIN’T all that.
Kang is a very solid addition to this weight class and Im sure he’ll bounce back. I was gutted for him though. I wonder if he’s reading this he’ll feel bad about him losing me my parlay as i got all the other 6 correct!!

I was there last night and have to say it was electric. And a special word of thanks to all in the UFC. Each and everyone gave all their time to the fans especially Dana who signed endless autographs and posed for pictures. Much respect for that man and for every fighter who enters the Octagon. Cant wait for March 17 2010. Overeem looks huge!! Dana get Crocop back for his last fight and get that fight on. Great night tho, worth every damn cent!!

i’d like to see CC come back and shut down the dutchman… hopefully cro cop gets his act together and recovers 100%

By far the best Dana blog ever as everybody mentioned. Man I really hope we se Overeem in the octagon soon. He would destroy everybody. As much as I am dissapointed with Shogun, I am still a big fan and I really hope that when he fights Chuck he has really learned from this Coleman fight and realized that he can not fight like he did against him.

Dude I’m not gonna lie, that video game looks weaker and weaker every time I see something for it. The striking does not look fluid at all, they look like rock em’ sock em robots.
by Brandon on Jan 18, 2009 6:59 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
i agree. i’m hoping it’s just cause dana and michael didn’t know what they were doin. i’m sure they’ve got a combo system that takes a little more than mashing buttons cause fight night kind of looks like that if you just hit the same button over and over.
by ActionJackson on Jan 18, 2009 7:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well Bisping said it was his first time and on one of Dana’s earlier blogs said that he had never played a video game in his life before messing with “Undisputed 2009”… so I imagine they were just mashing buttons….

I don’t think Shogun is a pussy, not by a long stretch .. but does anyone think Shogun accepted that fight on the spot because the owners shoved a camera in his face when asking? I mean, would he prefer someone else …

I don’t think so, he didn’t even hesitate.

I Agree with dana about the crowd.. Been to a few events and for such a small venue the noise and atmosphere unbelievable… Well done Ireland. Must have something to do with all the lucky charms joe was talking about. lol
by mmamad on Jan 19, 2009 6:37 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Liddell will destroy shogun. Shoguns sloppy come forward style striking is taylor made for a quick counter right hand KO for the iceman. Anyone who knows their MMA knows that Liddell is a bad fight for Shogun.
by mma grand master on Jan 19, 2009 8:38 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Stylistically, maybe. But I think Shogun will be in MUCH better shape against Chuck, so he might be able to move in and out quickly before Chuck can throw anything decent. I still see Chuck winning though. I think Shogun will get frustrated eventually by Chuck moving away, and he’ll just charge him. And then… BAM, K.O!
by Hero-Of-Time on Jan 19, 2009 10:06 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
As a Chuck Liddell fan, I’m ALWAYS nervous about him fighting recently because when you think he is going to win for sure, like against Jardine and Rashad….he will find a way to LOSE!!! That is the only reason I think Chuck will lose this fight against Shogun….other than that everyhting points to a Liddell win! He likes people to come at him so he can counter with the big right hand, Shogun is aggresive and will not run around and frustrate Chuck with dirty dancing like Rashad. Its a good matchup….but something tells me that this is Chucks last fight. I hate how it seems that Chuck is going after people who he thinks he can beat because of their prior performance…ie Jardine,Rashad Rampage….he saw all of their prior fights and thought he could get the KO on all of them and he ends up losing to all of them.
by Chadx23 on Jan 19, 2009 2:04 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
If Chuck beats Shogun, I’d like to see him fight Forrest or Jardine next….
by Chadx23 on Jan 19, 2009 2:05 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I think Shogun only accepted the fight because he was cornered into it. Dana practically rushed him, and with the camera in his face asked him if he wanted to fight. What man with any dignity is going to turn down a fight, especially with everyone watching and with a camera in your face?
I really do think they want him out of the UFC, and a loss to Liddell is their pretense to release him. I don’t blame them though, he just isn’t bringing it.
He was good against fighters in PRIDE, but SUCKS in the UFC. I don’t know if that tells you something about the talent of the UFC fighters.
Either way I don’t think he will last very long in the UFC.
