No Cop: Mirko Filipovic recovers from knee surgery in state-of-the-art healthcare facility (Pic)

-- Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic recovers from knee surgery following his bout against Hong Man Choi at Field's Dynamite!! on New Year's Eve and is expected to be out at least three to four months. Considering the Croat's status as a fighter and politician in Croatia you would think he'd be recovering in style. From this pic it looks like Cro Cop's government-subsidized medical insurance left him on the mend in the basement hallway of Sveti Duh next to the morgue.

I didn’t even know he got injured. wth? Man he’s looking old and slower. When he fights I see him breathing alot heavier too after 2minutes. Definitely a legend but his days are over. Enojoyable to watch him fight freaks though. haha

He was a Terror about 4 years ago. He really used to be one of the best fighters in the world. What a fall from grace.
He should fight Junior Dos Santos in his UFC farewell fight!

It always sucks to see Great fighters like Cro-cop go on the journey of becoming washed up
by BMO on Jan 14, 2009 11:44 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Do you have any idea what the fuck washed up is?
CroCop is far from washed up.
Id you see him scheduled on some card in Romania or Croatia to fight some local guy with a below five hundred record just for a paycheck. Then he’ll be washed up. He’s not close to there now.
People think if a fighter’s skills diminish in the slightest he’s fucking washed up. People love to see someone besides themselves take a fall. People are really fucking stupid.

interesting point… I see where you’re coming from. I reckon his current position looks bad cos a few years ago in the dying days of Pride he was so feared as a striker… When he came to the UFC most folk (me included) expected him to smash all the heavyweights. Obvisously that didn’t happen.. and he’s looked poor ever since.
Although he was great, I think he falls into the same bracket as Liddell, Ortiz & Hughes – Fighters that were SO good – but have fallen from the top tier cos the sport has moved on – and their sills have not developed in tamden.
He’s not washed up in the true sense – but it must be hard to continue to compete when you know you are no longer an elite fighter..
Let’s face it – the likes of Cro Cop, liddell etc want to retire as near the top of their game as possible – not go out like Shamrock!

how come on the other thread people were saying Lesnar vs Nog for Colombus, OH. I thought Mir is suppose to fight Lesnar. Is there a rumor I don’t know about?

I think a comeback fight against someone like O’Brien or Hardonk would be could for him, then a match against Dos Santos or Carwin.
Last I heard though, he wants to avenge his losses to Gonzaga and Kongo.
Another fight with Nog would be good too. Well, I say “would be”… I mean “has the potential to be”…

((Adam G)) – this is way off topic, but i just watched GSP-Penn I on my UFC 58 DVD, and i cant remember for sure, but i thought you said that the first round should have been 10-8 for BJ… i may be completely wrong here though, so correct me if i am. but if you did say that, would you mind telling me how you see that? cause yes GSP’s face was busted up and he was bleeding all over, from the accidental eye poke and the nose clip, but strike for strike the round was pretty close IMHO
by $Andrew$ on Jan 14, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
I know. These people love to talk about the “Lopsided 10-8 round”
It was pretty damn close, GSP wasn’t in danger of getting stopped once in that fight.
by Brandon on Jan 14, 2009 11:12 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Ive read a couple of articles over the years since then and several times he said that his corner made him go back out for the 2nd round , he didnt want to go.
Walking too the wrong corner and getting your nose broke and eye cracked is 10-8 too me.
by dayzah on Jan 15, 2009 1:13 AM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah exactly. I remembering watching that fight and it never occurred to me that it might be a 10-8 round. You have to drop someone once or more and be very close to finishing them to have a 10-8 round. Some BJ fans are just bitter or delusional or maybe both haha.

People get older, thats life, thats what happens. You cant be the best forever. So he had his run and now he is just sticking around until his body will tell him enough is enough.

Let’s get back on topic here. I feel like I’m going to get a staph infection if I look at that dirty wall behind CC any longer.

It is probably a hall way he is waiting in and they put is crap around him too make it look as if he was in a room.
I don’t believe that his room would look like that.

it would great to see cro cop back but with his style of fighting, age and speed is important, so as a top contender he is finished but still a big fan. best wishes

I was in Croatia in November and I asked a few people who spoke English if they had heard of Cro-Cop. Not many had… only our tour guide knew his name and knew something about him being a “fighter in Japan”.
The Tiger Woods of Croatia Mirko ain’t.

Guess it’s better than being a no good, never was, never will be, or even had a chance of being, punk like yourself!! You always have those people waiting for that one moment when your not 100%. Waiting so they can all jump out of the bushes and yell shit like “Washed up” and “Has been”. Is that really your only opinion on the matter? Plenty of people have hit ruts and came back on top. Plenty of fighters have came back from far worse injuries and have rose to the top. The guy is only 34, still young enough to get back into shape from injuries.
