UFC Quick Quote: Denis Kang's best day may still not be enough against Alan Belcher

"If I could fight the guys in the UFC in a Muay Thai fight, I think I would destroy them, it wouldn't even be close. I wouldn't have to hold back. But you've got to worry about the takedowns and stuff like that...I'm getting to the point where it's hard for anybody to take me down. I mean [Kang's] going to have to work really hard. If he's on his best day, his best performance, it's still going to be hard for him to take me down at all and then if he does then I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve for him. You never know, I'm might slap a triangle or something on him."
-A confident Alan Belcher (13-5) talks to the Canadian Press about the grim chances former PRIDE and Spirit MC standout Denis Kang (31-10-1) has in their upcoming UFC middleweight bout at UFC 93: "Franklin vs. Henderson" at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, on January 17. "The Talent" is fresh off a tough split-decision win over Ed Herman at UFC Fight Night 15 back in September. It was his third win in his last four attempts and a victory over Kang would do a lot to move him up the short list of middleweight contenders - and solidify some of his fairly bold claims.

congrats Belcher! U finally learned a basic triangle choke! Give u another year or two and you might get the arm bar down pact!
This should be an entertaining fight. I love Muy Tai so I have to kind of be a fan of Belcher, but I like my fighters well rounded.
Whats weird about Belcher is everytime I look at his face, it looks different then the time before! I dont get it!

by BMO on Jan 12, 2009 5:06 PM EST up reply actions
yeah, facially he always looks different. I just cant figure out why!

The article is wrong. Belcher won his fight with Ed Herman by unanimous decision. His win over Kang is going to be a knockout.

I was thinking the same thing. Still though, I got Belcher winning this fight with Kang.
by tha spida on Jan 12, 2009 2:32 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah,I agree with you, since Kang is kinda washed up.
by pamirec on Jan 12, 2009 2:39 PM EST up reply actions
I think it will be competitive, and Belcher has a chance at winning, but I got Kang stopping him in the 3rd round.

when did Kang become washed up? did I miss something?
by john on Jan 12, 2009 4:16 PM EST up reply actions
Kang is nowhere near washed up. If anything he’s poised to go on another long winning streak and bring his status to the next level.

Didnt jason day destroy this guy standing up? picked him apart and tkod him if i do recall. Where was his muay thai that day?
by PedroCerano on Jan 12, 2009 3:05 PM EST reply actions
Belcher vs herman was awesome…I think belchers muy tai is sickkkk
by What? on Jan 12, 2009 3:12 PM EST reply actions
Herman almost outstruck him, his muat thai is alright, but definatly not exeptional.

Im going t0 take Belcher in this fight. It wont be an easy fight for Kang. IMO, it will be his toughest fight since Mousasi

I wouldnt question belchers muay tai as i would his punching power…thats where the problem comes in. Technically he is very very good especially with the leg kicks. His power is somewhat weak thouhg…
by What? on Jan 12, 2009 4:12 PM EST reply actions
ha ha ha! you people are ridiculous. kang by ko in the 1st.
by jack on Jan 12, 2009 4:31 PM EST reply actions
fuck yeah bro my prediction too no way belchers beating kang, jason day knocked him out in the first kang should do it quickly
by Jared on Jan 12, 2009 5:13 PM EST up reply actions
I got Belcher in this one! Should be good though!
by Dana's a Crossdresser on Jan 12, 2009 5:14 PM EST reply actions
he thinks he can beat anyone in the ufc in Muay Thai. he’s never seen Anderson Silva’s Muay Thai highlite reel.

I havent been blown away by Belcher’s muay thai for how much he talks it up, and he also needs to stop rolling up his thai trunks to show off his creamy thighs. I have Kang winning a decision or late stoppage.

belcher got his sh-t 2gether after that Day fight.and i would love 2 see him vs silva in a thai fight it would be sick. even thought silva would win. the reason he is makin coments like this so he gets noticed and maybee hel fight silva. they would build that up bc in the kalid starnes destuction it was said one day he wants 2 fight his idle anderson silva.
ps… this fight kan kos him or belcher wins a decision and wins fight of the night over lytle davis
by beast3000 on Jan 12, 2009 11:11 PM EST reply actions
Belcher thinks he’s much better than he is and he gets sloppy and slows down alot in his fights.. punches in bunches is the method for Kang here like when Day overwhelmed him
by RoB on Jan 13, 2009 12:58 AM EST reply actions
Kang vs Belcher is anybodies fight to win or lose. Whose hungry whose more focused. Bottom line there are no more easy fights. the ufc is going to match you up with someone of equal talent to be a good fight. kang has the international experience but them debut first time octagon gitters even that right up this should be a good one. no predictions on this one.
by diepperman on Jan 13, 2009 8:13 AM EST reply actions
I got Kang winning this one, either by decision or a late stoppage. The fact that it’s his first UFC fight might play a factor on how well he does, but I still see him winning.
As for Belcher destroying the UFC guys in a Mauy Thai fight? He’s most likely not heard of Anderson Silva or Thiago Alves if that’s the case…
by Hero-Of-Time on Jan 13, 2009 12:17 PM EST reply actions
belcher is still young and improving. this could be the fight that brings him 2 the next level. in this fight i will b rooting for belcher but i will not be suprised if he loses. even though i want him to win i hope he shows improvement and doesnt cover up and backdown when he gets hit.
Belcher in 3… ooo and him saying he can destroy every 1 in the ufc in muy thai is just stupidity.. maybee the majority or even in a year he can say this but not when silva is still here…
by beast3000 on Jan 13, 2009 12:32 PM EST reply actions
Belcher has you all doing what he wants you to do…..that is talk about him. He is a great kid whom I know very well. He likes to make comments that stir people up. He is a good fighter but I wish he would really let his hands go in a fight. Then, all of you would see this kid “destroy” people. I have seen him kick five or six people’s asses at one time. If you ask him about that, he will know what I am talking about. If he throws punches aggressively, he will knock Kang the fuck out!
