AdamG, the only thing that could make this better would be if some of us could watch it together. You don’t live near New Mexico do you?

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 12, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

California baby! Bay Area, that would be perfect though, a group of GSPers and Penn-wannabeees slanging back brewskys and debating the great debate til Bruce Buffer tells us “Itsss TIIIIIImE!” Wouldnt it be nice = )

Daytona Beach for me. I go to a bar down on A-1-A and watch the UFCs. Then back here to see how many people did as bad as I did on making fight picks.

thats exactly why I dont get on here til sunday BNF!!!
Cant wait to boast about Penn’s historic win!

I usually blog from on and off from 8 – 10 so I can see the results of the prelims because I usually have money riding on prelims…But once the event starts, the boozing begins, and the Dro fills my lungs….The computer is the last thing on my mind!~

This is a Mega fight, but the fight I am most concerned about this month is the last emperor vs. the Red Pitbull

FEDOR! Fedor! Fedor! Fedor! I cant wait till they make a major movie about Fedor. with Oleg Taktarov as Fedor….. GUess what the movie would be called? FEDOR!!!!!

We should meet up on here during prelims to share a beer and talk a bit before main card starts, im also having a going away party the same night, gonna be crazy!!! And if BJ wins ill head to Basic with a smile on my face, if not, ill be all sad waiting for “wha wha whaaaaa” Flo/Penn . . .

there’s only one problem with this idea, mania will most likely be at the event, so moderation will be huge and comments may never come up! If mania promises that our comments will be on quickly, I’m all for coming on pre event!

Punch You in the Ovaries:

The Cruisin’ Cafe. The NASCAR bar. Its not packed, but a good amount show up, and theres like, a million tvs there, and theres a guy who does little UFC trivia over the mic, and I win alot, so its pretty cool.

Ironic that you got a degree from Riddle. I’m in my 2nd semester here now. No 5 year Engineering plan for me though. Army ROTC pays for my Homeland Security degree, and everything else. Pretty good deal. Where are you at now bro?

by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 12, 2009 7:58 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m in New Mexico, down the road from Jackson’s gym. I was on Air Force shcolarship so when I graduated I was stationed here at Kirtland AFB doing R&D Space Vehicle operations. I met my wife here. I went to Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH to head up a Ballistic Missile Intelligence Branch where learned I don’t like the midwest. I separated a year and a half ago and moved back to New Mexico. I grew sick of working in dark holes so now I make a living real estate investing. I don’t use my degree at all.

So Riddle is offering a Homeland Security degree now? Interesting. I’ve considered FBI a few times since separating. I remember the NASCAR bar. We used to go the Ale House a lot since it was close by.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 12, 2009 8:30 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Damn. You’ve been places. I doubt I’d use my HS degree either; I just need one to get a commission in the Army, and Aeronautical Science, which is what I did last semester, just wasn’t my thing.

I haven’t really looked anywhere else to watch the fights. Half the time Hooters doesn’t show them, and I drove by Wing House once and it was fucking packed. The CC was the first I’ve went in and watched (UFC 90) and I’ve stayed since, although I’ve only watched 90 and 91 since I’ve been here, but I like it.

Dudes, a meet up would be awesome. I’m stuck at my place in Coral Springs, Florida for a bit due to my legal issue though.

Synster: Yeah, I grew up in Louisiana, then moved to South Carolina (my dad was Air Force) for high school, then Daytona Beach for college. While in Ohio, my wife was getting her master’s at John Jay in NY so I spent all my free time upper east side of Manhattan at her apartment. I used to go to Los Angeles every couple weeks to NASA/JPL and Colorado springs every once in a while. I think I’ve been in every state aside from Nothwest. The army moves their officers around a lot so I’m sure your going to get to see a lot.

by Punch You in the Ovaries on Jan 12, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Whoa dude. I was born in Florida but grew up for the most part in South Carolina as well before ending up here in DB. I gotta ask, where at in SC? If you say Aiken county, I’m going to fucking flip. lol

BJ! BJ! BJ! BJ! Only way GSP can beat BJ is to try hump him. Problem with that strategy is the flexibility in Penn’s legs allow him the ability to sweep or end up taking his opponents back from his guard….and everyone knows…YOu dont want BJ on your back!

I doubt GSP will have the stones to stand with BJ!

by john on Jan 12, 2009 2:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

My biggest worry is whether GSP catches an assault charge after he’s done with him. GSP GSP GSP!!!

by NameNotRequired on Jan 12, 2009 3:00 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Gsp is going to be scared to strike with BJ. GSP didnt even want to strike with Matt Serra. THere is going to be a whole lot of backing up, and circling done by GSP.

No Doubt BJ gets the Aggression points!

by john on Jan 12, 2009 3:26 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m on BJ’s side here, and I think he can outstrike GSP and submit him (history shows I’ve already posted a prediction of RNC 4th round), but I can see GSP getting a quick, explosive takedown as BJ comes forward with his striking, and even though BJ’s jits will neutralize any offense while GSP is in his guard, GSP tends to pass nearly as soon has hes on the ground.

If I can make a second prediction, I’ll say TKO due to a cut/doctor stoppage for BJ. Gsp bleeds alot more than Penn, and I can see him getting battered and bloodied by the end of the 3rd.

So either BJ rear naked choke 4th or BJ tko (doctor stoppage) between 3rd and 4th.

by Synyster [[2009 Year of Gegard Mousasi]] on Jan 12, 2009 3:40 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

either outcome works for me synyster!

by john on Jan 12, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

john, i’ll say this right here, GSP will stand with BJ and outstrike him using leg kicks and quicker jabs before the takedown.

by NameNotRequired on Jan 12, 2009 7:50 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

only reason GSP will strike is because he cant just shoot for takedowns against BJ. He has to strike before shooting for the takedown.

But there is no way that GSP WANTS to stand toe to toe with Penn!

Ill bet the next menu waiting process (if you would wait and actually look) will be of GSP throwing. . . What da F?

some of the things BJ says honestly make me think he has mental issues… maybe he says them to shock or something… but i honestly think he has issues…

Ya, you shouldn’t be legaly able to say it in the first place. “Seriousley I’m not joking”. BJ is one of the best, but the worst for the sport.

This is funny. Gsp says he wants to destroy his opponent and no one bats an eye. BJ says he wants to kill Gsp and people want to press charges against him. Why do people take BJ more seriously? Too funny.

by Bigmcmac on Jan 12, 2009 6:35 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, the comments def sound kinda mental. I’m not to keen on that kind of talk anyway, but more importantly can you imagine a reporter or something with an agenda against MMA doing a piece on “A fighter who actually wants to kill” or some nonsense?

Right when MMA is starting to gain a little more mainstream legitimacy, to the casual viewer then there is some nutjob talking about killing folks.

JMO it sounds a little unprofessional too.

by Teep on Jan 12, 2009 10:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I doubt that. You hear it all the time. The eagles “killed” the cowboys. The celtics “destroyed” the lakers. Those words are being used as adjectives more than literally.

by Kdog on Jan 13, 2009 1:31 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

The worst think about GSP beating down BJ is we will have to listen to all the BJ lovers after the fight, I can hear it now “BJ was sick the day before” “no fair BJ had a hard time sleeping the night before and was trying to get a quick nap in the cage it wasent because GSP beat him unconscious” kinda like after Matt Hughes pounded him out everyone went on about some “rib” crap!

by jet99 on Jan 12, 2009 3:56 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

and you were probably the same guy saying GSP’s family tragedy/car accident or whatever is the reason he got beat down by Matt midget Serra?

these are cage fighters! I don’t care what they “say” as long as they don’t “do” anything psycho in the octagon then the sport is safe….

48-47 decision………..GSP

by introvert on Jan 12, 2009 4:28 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I’m looking forward to watching this preview to ufc 94, so much build up to this fight, I’m just wondering what penn will do if he loses, which I think he will. After calling out gsp, all the shit talk, and then losing two in a row, the guy and all this nut huggers would have to be seriously depressed.

He’s so going out on a limb here, I hope he doesn’t end up in a mental hospital because he’s an exciting fighter to watch I just don’t think he belongs with the big boys at 170, and should stay at his natural weight class at 155. The nail in the coffin would be if he lost to florian which I really can’t see happening but you can never say never, it would seriously f**k up penn’s confidence.

Penn is one crazy eccentric guy, and how I see gsp winning this one is using jabs from the out side, and lots of kicks and clinching a lot and taking penn down from time to time. It potentially might not be all that exciting and look like the first fight with out all the blood, this wouldn’t surprise me one bit, but penn finishing gsp would.

by nathan on Jan 12, 2009 4:48 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

All the blood in the last fight was coming from GSP’s face. Im sure he’s going to try and stay away this time. But that’s not going to work BJ is going to take him apart like he was doing the last time till he gased.
GSP is the better athlete Penn is the better fighter.

by ktown on Jan 12, 2009 5:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I have it 49-46 introvert gsp for my first choice, second choice is tko by gsp in the fourth round.

by nathan on Jan 12, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

only choice, BJ wins, via “i dont give a shit!”

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Jan 12, 2009 5:04 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

by ktown on Jan 12, 2009 5:07 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

all of this hype talk is driving me crazy. I can’t wait for the weigh ins and fight. talk is cheap and jan. 31 can’t come any sooner. i’m a fan of both fighters but i have to give a slight edge to bj penn because he seems like the more hungry and determined fighter. usually during re-mathces, the more confident and motivated fighter usually takes it. so i expect bj penn to win this epic historic fight to set up a trilogy match.

by beejames on Jan 12, 2009 5:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

I can’t wait for GSP to dominate BJ and for everyone to realise just how much faster, stronger and fitter GSP is.

TKO by GNP in round 3!!!

by Paul N on Jan 12, 2009 5:29 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

how does the belts work in this fight? if bj wins does he get the ww belt. and if gsp wins does he half to move down to fight for the 155. i am confused there.

by the still operator on Jan 12, 2009 5:33 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Their fighting at 170 for the WW belt only. Win or lose BJ keeps the 155 LW belt.

by ktown on Jan 12, 2009 5:38 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

LoL, no. BJ wins = owner of the LTWT belt and the WLWT belt. GSP wins he moves on to fight Alves still being the WLWT and only the WLWT champ. GSP would have to come down to 155 and fight BJ for his belt to get it. BJ BJ BJ!!!

by ( (AdamG ) ) on Jan 12, 2009 5:39 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ok thank you. so then that means gsp would go for the mw belt to then?

Does this video make anyone else laugh? I fight penn especially funny, his training his pudgy body, and the dramatic music. Penn rushing out of the water with the rock gets me every time and makes me chuckle, gsp most profound statement “I know I’m going to beat this guy”. “george I’m going to try to kill you”, penn. Both of these guys are kind of funny in there own way, gsp with his accent and penn with his almost junior high like attitude, a long time ago but I still remember the mentality of a lot of the kids, “your dead after school”.

by Gweedo on Jan 12, 2009 9:10 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Any maniacs in the Toronto area? If so, it would be great to know where everyone’s going. Most people usually go to Diesel – where the event is always hosted by a UFC fighter or two. Let me know! Oh, and one more thing…..WAR GSP!!!

GSP by jumping, flying, spinning back kick to BJ’s round head. Unless, of course, BJ pokes him in the eye again!

by caknakker on Jan 13, 2009 1:22 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I usually head to Diesel. It’s a bit pricey if you go to each event but the screen is huge, the atmosphere is cool and the beer is cheap. Plus, as you mentioned, there’s always a UFC fighter or two there…who the host asks the most ridiculous questions to.
How do you take down a UFC fighter???….Ask him stupid questions.
Good call on the eye poke….too often overlooked. But…GSP still won!

GSP is gonna beat BJ’s mongoloid ass. Everybody go watch Sherk vs Penn. lol BJ got hit a lot from a midget 155pnder.

BJ sounds like a middle schooler “I’m gonna kill you” yeah ok.

BJ is too lazy from being brought up rich. He doesn’t know what hard work and sacrifice means.

If by some chance he beats GSP, Thiago will kill Penn. That’s what happens when you rely on attributes. BJ has never subbed anybody from his back. Fact.

I’m a huge GSP fan, but how can anybody actually hate Penn…he’s one funny and talented dude. Everyone knows he needs to talk smack before a fight, it’s just the way he is, and I for one think it shows passion and will probably sell some PPV’s.
Other than that, I see this going similar to the first one (minus the bloody nose and eye-jammy) and GSP winning. I don’t see much that has changed, except for the extra two rounds, which I think works against Penn.

GSP beat BJ before, he can do it again. No doubt Penn is better than ever, but so is GSP. Factor in the size difference and I see GSP coming away with a hard fought win. Both these guys are so sick though, whatever happens, this fight is a real treat for the fans.

G-S-P! G-S-P!
